SHOW REECE MASTIN: WOLF IN THE WOODS TOUR Thursday 25 September, 8pm Australia’s young rock ‘n roll heartthrob, Reece Mastin, has packed up his bags and taken the band back out on the road. His debut album went double platinum and hit #1 as well as three consecutive singles that all worked their way into the Top 5 of the ARIA charts. What stands Reece apart from many of his contemporaries is that he is a genuinely talented musician — he’s been writing songs and playing the guitar since he was 12 and is heavily involved in the direction of his music. “If you’ve never come to a show before, this is the one you’ve been waiting for”

HENRY V by William Shakespeare DIRECTOR DAMIEN RYAN

GLASSHOUSE FRIENDS MEMBERSHIP 2014

Tuesday 14 October, 11am & 8pm In an incredibly exciting new Bell Shakespeare production of Henry V, Damien Ryan directs a contemporary version of this play inspired by a true story – for 71 consecutive nights during the 1941 Blitz, a group of boys trapped in a bunker rehearsed plays, including the works of Shakespeare, and would perform them for others in the shelter. Damien Ryan’s unflinching production will explore war, the eloquence of leaders and the brotherhood of soldiers from every angle. Is King Henry V a courageous leader, a cowardly manipulator or simply a little boy lost? “see this marvellous production and fall in love with Shakespeare for the first time... all over again” Stage Whispers Tickets*

THE MORRISON BROTHERS BIG BAND Thursday 11 December, 8pm

GLASSHOUSE FRIENDS MEMBERSHIP 2014

Australian jazz legend, James Morrison, performs in everything from orchestras to duos each year - but it is the big band sound that he loves the most. If you’ve heard Morrison with a small group and liked what you heard – just imagine it with twice the trumpets, twice the trombones, and three times the saxophones and James blowing away over the top of it all. James formed the first 16-piece The Morrison Brothers Big Band with his brother John over 30 years ago, inspired by the old time big bands like those of Duke Ellington and Count Basie. James Morrison’s debut performance at the Glasshouse with his drumming brother John, special guest vocalist Jacki Cooper and the full Morrison Brothers Big Band will be a very special occasion. CUSP DESIGNING INTO

THE NEXT DECADE

12 September — 12 October An Object: Australian Design Centre National Touring Program

CUSP: Designing into the Next Decade is a creative program that explores design as a human-centred approach that can enrich the experience of life for individuals, organisations and communities. Designers look deeply at human problems, asking questions, immersing themselves in the environment, devising creative solutions, making prototypes, trialling, testing, and identifying the things that work, discarding those that don’t and starting over – this is the way a designer works.

TREVELYAN CLAY 17 October - 30 November 2014 This exhibition takes the tradition of hard-edged abstraction as its starting point, presenting a series of paintings that arrange colour into rows stacked in pictorial space. The works have a play on a light source which reveals a certain sense of depth by the fall of the shadow, while the shadows themselves in some cases are wrong and allude to some fakery or bad coding on a video game or CGI. A Glasshouse Regional Gallery exhibition. ANNETTE BEZOR SURVEY 17 October - 30 November 2014 Annette Bezor is one of Australia’s most respected and successful artists. Her painting addresses female sexuality, the politics of gender. In her current work, she takes images of women from classical painting, contemporary decorative art and popular culture and recreates them as stylised icons to reveal and subvert the power and impact of the originals. ARTEXPRESS 17 October 7 December 2014 ARTEXPRESS is an exhibition of outstanding works by 2013 Higher School Certificate Visual Arts Students from schools in NSW. This year’s exhibitions reflect students’ many interests and concerns, including the exploration of culture, personal identity and family relations. The bigger issues of world politics and the human impact on the environment were also addressed. The excellent standard of artworks in ARTEXPRESS is attributable to the rigor of the NSW Visual Arts curriculum and the quality teaching and learning occurring in New South Wales schools. This exhibition is a joint initiative of the NSW Department of Education & Communities and the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards, NSW in association with the Glasshouse. AUSTRALIAN ICONIC HOUSES 5 December 2014 — 15 February 2015 Iconic Australian Houses, curated by Karen McCartney and presented in partnership with Architecture Foundation Australia is a behind-the-scenes exploration of 30 of the most important Australian homes of the past 60 years. The exhibition explores the design and building of these houses, as well as the experiences of those who live in them, and illustrates the emergence of a distinctively Australian approach to home design. Vivid photography, rich illustrations, 3D models and filmed interviews look beyond the physical structures to tell the story of how good design can enrich lifestyle. The exhibition includes a sneak peek at one of the award-winning Australian houses featured in Karen McCartney’s forthcoming book, Superhouse: architecture & interiors beyond the everyday, which looks at stand-out contemporary architecture from across the world. KEN + JULIA YONETANI: THE LAST SUPPER 12 December 2014 – 1 February 2015 The Last Supper, a new sculptural installation by Ken + Julia Yonetani, addresses themes of food production, concerns arising from the level of salinity in Australia and related environmental impacts. “Here salt is a metaphor for the death of the land, sacrificed in the production and consumption of what has become The Last Supper”, said the artists. The husband and wife team are known for their use of unusual materials such as salt, sugar and even uranium glass. Their recent body of work: Crystal Palace: The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nuclear Nations, featured 31 chandeliers constructed from uranium glass beads and antique chandelier frames. They were a key attraction at the Singapore Biennale. The Australian artists produced this work in response to the Fukushima Nuclear reactor disaster of 2011.
