It's a field trip! Instead of our regular meeting we'll be joining the Hobby Area Management District (HAMD) for a Metro informational meeting. Metro has held meetings all over their district, but none were scheduled convenient to our neighborhood. The HAMD was able to schedule one in our area. Please share the meeting information with neighbors in the Hobby area. The only way things happen in an area is when the powers that be see a huge participation of the residents.

NOVEMBER: Nov. 16 Civic Club meeting, 7 p.m. with County Judge Ed Emmett as our guest speaker. It will be his first visit to Glenbrook Valley.

It's hard to say who won the battle! Sims Bayou did not go out of its banks. Huge point for us. The flooding that occurred in the neighborhood came from the streets.

Harvey is disqualified on that point.

Granted, he brought the torrential rains, but he's not the reason the infrastructure

En vez de nuestra reunión regular nos reuniremos con el Hobby Área Management District (HAMD) para una reunión informacional METRO. METRO ha tenido juntas por todo su distrito, pero ninguna se programó conveniente para nuestro vecindario. HAMD pudo programar una en nuestra área. Favor de compartir la información de la junta con vecinos en el área Hobby. La única manera que pasan cosas importantes en un área es cuando los poderes que sean ven una participación enorme de parte de los residentes.

NOVIEMBRE: 16 de noviembre Reunión del Club Cívico, 7 p.m. con el Juez del Condado Ed Emmett como nuestro locutor invitado. Ésta será su primera visita a Glenbrook Valley.

The City of Houston has to step up and take responsibility for that!

Glenbrook Valley was established in the 1950's, we're considered an "Old neighborhood." GBV is older than many of our residents, others of us - not so much! Adequate drainage was placed on our streets during development of the neighborhood. Prior to the early 90's Sims Bayou left its banks with heavy rain. Since the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFD) improved the bayou it's been a good neighbor.

The City Of Houston has failed us.

• The drainage ditch that is our eastern boundary is supposed to be maintained by the City. It's rarely mowed. On that front Meadowbrook Freeway and Glenbrook Valley must work together to see that the ditch is properly maintained. Ten years or so ago the Rockhill Corridor neighborhoods, Gulf Freeway Oaks, Meadowbrook Freeway and GBV, made enough noise that it was fairly well maintained. The last couple of years it's been virtually

ignored. At one time our ditch drained 70% of the water from the airport property.

• In 2006 after a heavy rain homes in the 8100 & 8200 block of Dover flooded. Lack of drainage was blamed. The City used a camera in the drain and learned the storm sewer had collapsed. A few years back then Council Members Costello and Noriega met us at the drain between 8206 & 8210 Dover. It was noted that water in the street couldn't drain because the drain entry was about 2" higher that the street. The City has done nothing.

• The confluence of Glen Dell Ct. and Stony Dell Ct. creates, what I refer to as, our valley. Several years ago the HCFD removed the home at 8107 Stony Dell. That was supposed to resolve the problem. Didn't happen. The Public Works and Engineering Department have been out numerous times to "evaluate" the situation.

After the house was torn down a third drain was discovered, which even though uncovered hasn't helped. About 5 years ago a PWE supervisor came out and we drove the valley circle. This "person" stated that it was the neighbor-

hood developer's fault. I informed him that our neighborhood was over 50 years old and had paid city taxes for that long and it was the city's problem. Nothing's changed.

• The icing on the cake is the several million dollars that were spent on a drain to eliminate the storm and sewer overflow on Santa Elena and Glen Dell Ct. It looks like an elevator shaft. Water enters the drain and empties into Sims Bayou. PWE was proud to say it had a device in it to prevent a backflow. They never did answer where the water they were holding back was going to go!

We have to work together to protect our neighborhood! If your street doesn't drain properly or has standing water, report it to 311 every week, every time it happens.

Also report damaged streets, whether from pot holes or traffic.

Encourage your neighbors to do the same.

We hope your home has been dry, but it you have had storm water in your home from Harvey, please let your section director or one of Glenbrook Civic Club Officers know.

• La zanja del drenaje que es nuestra frontera al este se supone que se debe mantener por la Ciudad. Raras veces se siega. Por eso Meadowbrook Freeway y Glenbrook Valley tienen que trabajar juntos para ver que la zanja se mantiene apropiadamente.

Hace más o menos diez años las vecindades del corredor Rockhill, Gulf Freeway Oaks, Meadowbrook Freeway y GBV se quejaron suficientemente para ver que se mantenía más o menos bien.

Los últimos dos años ha sido virtualmente ignorado. En un tiempo nuestra zanja drenó 70% del agua de la propiedad del aeropuerto.

• En 2006 después de una lluvia fuerte casas en las cuadras 8100 & 8200 de Dover fueron inundados.

Se culpó la falta del drenaje.

Hace unos pocos años los entonces Concejales Costello y Noriega se reunieron con nosotros en el desagüe entre 8206 & 8210 Dover. Se notó que el agua en la calle no pudo drenar porque la entrada del desagüe estaba a eso de 2" más alta que la calle. La Ciudad no ha hecho nada.

• La confluencia de Glen Dell Ct. y Stony Dell Ct. crea lo que yo describo como nuestro valle.

Hace algunos años HCFD removió la casa en 8107 Stony Dell.

Eso se suponía que iba a resolver el problema. Eso no pasó. El Departamento de obras públicas e ingeniería ha venido numerosas September, 2017

veces para "evaluar" la situación.

Después de derribar la casa un tercer desagüe se descubrió, pero aunque lo descubrieron esto no ayudó. Hace como 5 años un supervisor PWE vino y manejamos el círculo del valle. Esta persona dijo que era culpa del desarrollador del vecindario. Le informó que nuestra vecindad tiene más que 50 años y ha pagado impuestos municipales por todo este tiempo y ahora es problema de la ciudad. Nada ha cambiado.

La guinda del pastel son los varios millones de dólares que se gastaron en un desagüe para eliminar el desbordamiento de la tormenta y el alcantarillado en Santa Elena y Glen Dell Ct. Se parece un eje de elevador. El agua entra el desagüe y desemboca en Sims Bayou.

PWE estaba orgulloso de decir que tenía un dispositivo para prevenir reflujo. ¡Nunca contestaron adonde iría el agua que se contenía! ¡Tenemos que trabajar juntos para proteger nuestra vecindad! Si su calle no drena correctamente o si tiene agua estancada, repórtelo a 311 cada semana, cada vez que pasa. También reporte calles dañadas, no importa si por agujeros de pote o por el tráfico. Anímelos a sus vecinos que hacen igual.
