Lifeguarding is a leadership position where you learn to handle emergencies in, on and around the water. If you are 15 years old or older Glendale will be conducting interviews to hire summer, certified lifeguards at the two city aquatic centers. Need a certification class? It’s Coming Back! The Foothills 360 “Summer” Edition

Give your kids, ages 5-11, a memorable summer at this popular, supervised summer program, where staff provide fun, age-appropriate programming in a variety of spaces within the center. Kids will enjoy swimming once a week, the rock wall, gymnasium games, arts ‘n crafts, guest speakers and active games. Choose a 3-day or 5-day a week program. This program fills quickly! Registration begins April 1, and you may register for one week or multiple weeks as long as there is space available. Each child will need to bring a daily, non-perishable lunch and snacks, but lunch and snacks can also be purchased at the on-site café. Registration fees: 3-Day is $74/ week (non-resident $91), 5-Day is $110/week (non-residents $145). Registration forms will be available March 25. The Foothills Center is more than just a recreation and aquatics center. It includes varying sized rental rooms for intimate gatherings or larger groups up to 230 individuals. With a variety of room sizes, we can host business meetings, HOA meetings, weddings, birthday parties or overnight graduation parties. Chairs and tables are always included in your rental, and there’s also a catering kitchen for rent with no restrictions on which licensed caterer you hire. The Foothills Center is open 7-days a week but will accommodate after-hours rentals as well. For more information, call Cindy at 623-930-4611.

ESCAPE THE HEAT HALF MARATHON TRAINING

For those of you who are considering Glendale leagues for the first time, it is our goal to provide you the best experience every season. A favorite of local hikers with excellent views of the Valley of the Sun’s western cities, Thunderbird Conservation Park, a 1,185acre park in the Hedgpeth Hills, is a conservation park dedicated to preserving the desert environment. The hills were named for Robert Hedgpeth, an early homesteader in the area. The park took its name from the World War II pilot training facility located four miles south of the park. Park activities include picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, jogging and bird watching. More than 20 miles of multi-use trails are available to explore. The park also features more than 50 different species of birds and wildlife including quail, eagles, herons, falcons, roadrunners, lizards, tortoise, fox, squirrels, rabbits and coyote. The “am/pm,” “am only” and “pm only” programs are licensed recreation programs providing a variety of activities for children attending Kindergarten-8th grade such as arts and crafts, recreation activities, guest speakers and much more! The programs are regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and can accept DES qualifying families (contact your DES caseworker for information). The program’s focus is to provide a safe and caring environment where all children can learn, grow and thrive. Educational activities, snacks, group games and Qualifies homework time are offered by caring, trained adult staff members. Program for DES sites are open early release days, but closed on national holidays or when a s sistance the school campus is closed (selected sites open during breaks).
