Over 1000 films have been shot across the state, taking advantage of its desert geography, varied locations, breathtaking vistas, and film-friendly climate. Arizonaโs rich film legacy begins with the silent film era, and includes a variety of genres from the beloved Western to dramas, comedies, horror, action adventure, and science fiction movies. This program will discuss Arizonaโs substantial contributions to Hollywoodโs history and explore significant films that have been shot in the state. Boats and Boatmen of the Colorado River: The Kolb Expedition Centennial
In 1911 Ellsworth and Emery Kolb launched an expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers in two state-of-the-art wooden rowboats. To commemorate the Kolb Centennial, boatman and author Brad Dimock built an exact replica of Emery Kolbโs boat and rowed it through Kolbโs route. Dimock now puts the Kolbs, their boats, and techniques into the grand scheme of western whitewater. A consummate storyteller, Dimock will augment this amusing tale with still and moving images. G.R.A.S.P. is a supervised, drop-in recreation program grades for students in grades 1โ8. Registration is required, 1-8 along with a $35 ($45 non-resident) per semester, per participant, supply fee. (There is no additional charge for program hours.) Hours are from school dismissal to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Let the volunteers at the Fix-It Shop, a talented group of seniors, repair your small household appliances (excluding computers, TVโs or VCRโs). The services are free, you only pay for necessary parts. (Donations are accepted and appreciated.) Open Fri, 8 a.m.-Noon.

Adopt a Trail Program
A fun and rewarding way for you to give back to your community by helping to maintain a park. You or a group (neighborhood association, church, school, or other organization) can adopt an entire park or parts of it, such as a playground. You can commit to a one-day event or to a year of monthly clean-ups. There are many opportunities waiting for you! To get involved, or for more information, call 623-930-4206. Certain restrictions apply.
A partnership between individuals, organizations and the city to help maintain Glendale trails. Help keep designated trails free of litter, monitor trail conditions, and perform minor trail maintenance. Volunteers and Team Leaders are needed. Volunteers will receive notification when a clean-up or trail project is scheduled. Team leaders will receive training and information on helping lead volunteers on the projects.
