Ongeskiktheid: Wat gebeur as ek nie kan werk nie ’n Mens kan nie die toekoms voorspel nie, maar jy kan daarvoor beplan. In dié verband kan die belangrikheid van ongeskiktheidsversekering nie oorbeklemtoon word nie. 1. Is ongeskiktheidsdekking ‘n noodsaaklike uitgawe, veral wanneer geld skraps is? Ongelukkig verstaan mense dikwels ongeskiktheidsversekering verkeerd en verleen nie in hul begroting die voorrang daaraan wat dit verdien nie. Wanneer geld skaars is, kan ongeskiktheidsdekking as ‘n teësinnige aankoop beskou word; maar in werklikheid beskerm dit jou grootste bate, naamlik jou vermoë om ‘n inkomste te verdien en vir jou en jou gesin te sorg. In teenstelling met suiwer lewensdekking, wat ná jou dood in jou geliefdes se behoeftes voorsien, is ongeskiktheidsversekering daar om in jou én jou gesin se behoeftes te voorsien in geval van ‘n ongeluk, siekte of besering wat verhoed dat jy ‘n inkomste verdien. Jy kan as gevolg van ‘n mediese gebrek ook bykomende finansiële uitgawes hê. Om hierdie redes is ongeskiktheidsversekering naas suiwer lewensdekking ‘n noodsaaklik vorm van beskerming. 2. Bo en behalwe as dekking vir verlies van inkomste, waarvoor kan ek ongeskiktheidsdekking gebruik? Benewens as beskerming van jou vermoë om ‘n inkomste te verdien, kan ongeskiktheidsversekering gebruik word om jou uitstaande skuld te delg om jou algehele finansiële las te verlig. Dit kan ook gebruik word om enige aanpassings aan jou huis of motor te befonds wat nodig mag wees indien jy arbeidsongeskik raak, of
die reiskoste na ‘n ander stad vir deskundige mediese advies te dek. 3. Wat is die verskil tussen ongeskiktheidsinkomste en ‘n ongeskiktheidsenkelbedrag? Het ek albei nodig? Ideaal gesproke behoort jou ongeskiktheidsversekering enkelbedragongeskiktheidsvoordele én inkomstebeskermingsvoordele (wat dikwels ongeskiktheidsinkomste genoem word) in te sluit. Alhoewel dit jou meer buigsaamheid gee om skuld te delg of ander onvoorsiene uitgawes te dek, word die enkelbedragvoordeel nie uitbetaal vir tydperke wanneer jy tydelik nie kan werk nie en waarskynlik sal herstel.
