WELCOME TO “THE NEIGHBORHOOD”!
T
he lights on the marquee came on, the doors swung open and the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Community Chamber of Commerce’s new Neighborhood Visitor & Information Center debuted in February. The unveiling took place in front of an inviteonly crowd of chamber board members, local politicians and dignitaries. The bright and colorful VIC will be different things to different people, that aspect of the facility that was not lost on Westmoreland County Commissioner Ted Kopas.
“It’s everything it should be: part museum, part entertainment, part store, part information booth,” Kopas said. “It captures the essence of the area.” Come through the doorway and you’ll see display cases with memorabilia from Arnold Palmer, Fred Rogers and Rolling Rock Beer. Rack cards, brochures, business cards and plenty of reminders of the area’s past, present and some glimpses into the area’s future. 'Help' is what visitors and locals will find at the VIC, which will be staffed by people well-versed in the area
and what it has to offer. “We wanted a facility that would be far more than racks and stands of brochures,” said David Martin, president of the GLLV Chamber. “The VIC is a unique glimpse into our communities… their history, the amazing people who live here and everything that makes the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley area a very special place to live, work and visit. The VIC is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Sunday hours announced in the spring.
"GOOD MORNING GREATER LATROBE" RADIO SHOW EVERY FRIDAY By Mike Dudurich
I
n the entertainment business, you have to give the audience what it wants.
And, in the case of the Good Morning Greater Latrobe Radio Show, the audience has spoken. The show, hosted by the Greater LatrobeLaurel Valley Chamber of Commerce, has been airing for years on WCNS 1480 the first Friday of every month from 8-9 a.m. “We’ve gotten positive listener responses as well as great reaction from new
GLLV members and renewing members,” said Brandon Kail, general manager at WCNS. “The show is a great fit for both of us.” Now it’s even a bigger fit as the show will begin airing every Friday at 8 a.m. starting March 6. “This is good for everyone involved,” Kail said. “It promotes our station and the chamber. We’re the voice of the community and a show
like this makes radio accessible.” The show is fast-paced, featuring business-to-business discussions on topics like business profiles, education, industry, money and events the Chamber puts together for its membership. With WCNS now being available streaming online at www.1480wcns.com, current and exresidents of Latrobe and surrounding areas can now listen to the show wherever they are.
