A current emerging dynamic is the expansion of the agency-venue relationship. In the recent past, this interaction tended to be limited to an agent communicating to a specific venue regarding a specific date/artist.

With the rise of a singular point of contact for multiple venues, which describes my position with Global Spectrum, a paradigm has been created where agents and managers now have the ability to discuss complete tours in an expedited manner. With the benefit of streamlined communication, a growing number of agents are preparing to draft tour routings for artist management based on Global Spectrum venue availability. We are providing agents with the anchors on which to build their tours.

Turner’s agent at William Morris Endeavors (WME), who needed input identifying a market for his artist to play, contacted me. Turner had a contracted event in Texas and another in Las Vegas, but needed to fill the touring gap between the dates. After several conversations between Kevin Jolley, the venue’s General Manager, and our client in Clovis, we received permission to place an offer for the event.

marketing strategy devised by the Global Spectrum marketing team proved highly successful as the event broke venue sales records and registered as one of Josh Turner’s highest grossing dates.

success led to WME requesting a complete overview of the event, which was distributed to all their agents and focused on how to properly place artists in smaller markets.

CORPORATE NEWS Wells Fargo Center, GM Matt Homan Named Finalists For Pollstar Awards Honors and mentions are rolling in for Global Spectrum and the Wells Fargo Center as the internationally-renowned Philadelphia venue wraps up another successful year. The arena and its general manager, Matt Homan, are currently in the running p Matt Homan for national recognition by Pollstar magazine, a concert industry publication. Meanwhile, two other leading industry publications have ranked the Wells Fargo Center among the top 10 venues in the world. “The Wells Fargo Center had a spectacular year in live entertainment,” said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. “We truly had something for everyone with so many of the world’s top performers. All of our shows did great business which shows that nothing can ever replace the live experience.”

In voting for the annual Pollstar Awards, the Wells Fargo Center is a nominee for 2012 Building of the Year, while Homan has been nominated for 2012 Arena Executive of the Year. Billboard Magazine has ranked the Wells Fargo Center as the ninth highest-grossing building in the world, while Venues Today has ranked the venue third in the U.S. and seventh in the world for highest grossing facilities. Once again in 2012, the world’s greatest performers came to the Wells Fargo Center for landmark shows. Both Madonna (August 28) and Barbara Streisand (October 8) opened their North American tours in front of sold-out crowds at the building, while Peter Gabriel (September 20) did the same in opening the US portion of his tour. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played two soldout shows at the Wells Fargo Center March 28-29), as did Justin Bieber (November 4 and December 5).
Other major performers who made stops at the building included Rush (October 12), Coldplay (July 5-6), Aerosmith (July 21) and LMFAO (June 30). Carrie Underwood and Neil Young played the Wells Fargo Center in late November, and The Who kicked off December with a sold-out show. The Dave Matthews Band also visited in December. In addition, 2013 is already shaping up to be a great year for concertgoers at the venue, with Lady Gaga, Pink, Rhianna, Maroon 5, and Rod Stewart already booked. Homan, 35, was named the General Manager of the Wells Fargo Center in February 2011. Since then, he has helped the building continue to be a premier destination for musical acts, as well as helping to attract other major events. Homan has enjoyed a career of more than 15 years with Global Spectrum.

Sharonville Convention Center Partners With Ovations Food Services Ovations Food Services was selected as official food and beverage provider at Sharonville Convention Center, a newly remodeled facility located in northern Cincinnati, OH. The addition of Ovations is the last piece of the Center’s drastic makeover, a $26-million renovation that included an expansion of space, new partners, and a contemporary, aesthetically pleasing look. After such an extensive transformation, the center is eager to show off its new assets. Bradley Muchnicki, a graduate of Pennsylvania Culinary Institute Le Cordon Bleu, is the head chef at the Center. His experience over the last nine years landed him the Regional Food & Beverage Excellence Award in 2006 and the Marriott International Food & Beverage Excellence Award in 2007.

The National Football League’s (NFL) Atlanta Falcons are participating in FanOne Marketing’s second league-wide season ticket renewal promotion. Through the promotion, FanOne offered all NFL teams the opportunity to partner with the organization to launch highly effective personalized season ticket holder renewal campaigns.
Thanks to a new partnership between Paciolan and StubHub, sports fans of the University of North Carolina, Purdue University, the University of Texas, and the University of Tennessee are able to purchase and receive football game tickets from secondary ticketing website StubHub using their mobile phones.
FanOne’s season ticket renewal solution incorporates personalized websites (PURLs) and automated behavior-based communications. By giving each ticket holder an individualized online renewal experience, the use of PURLs have historically increased engagement and online renewal rates, while also reducing customer confusion, service calls, and unnecessary collateral costs. “FanOne has been creating Season Ticket renewal PURLs for a few years, so we know they are not only engaging, but also extremely effective,” said Mike Ruppert, Director of New Business Development for FanOne Marketing. “One particular organization achieved a 5000+ percent ROI through last year’s promotion, so we know they will be excited to participate again.”
Paciolan is partnering with StubHub to provide an end-to-end mobile delivery experience that makes it quick and easy for fans to purchase tickets on the secondary market, receive a new barcode for the ticket on their mobile phones, and then have it scanned from their phones at the gate for entrance to the game. The mobile ticketing solution also allows fans to forward purchased tickets to a friend. And, unlike other mobile offerings, the Paciolan/ StubHub solution allows the user to forward one or all tickets to others in their party via email without the need to arrive all together.
The integration will give iPhone and iPad users another option to access mobile tickets. Through Passbook, users have the convenience of keeping all of their boarding passes, event tickets, coupons, loyalty cards, and more stored in one place. The technology is simple for fans to use. Once they purchase a ticket through StubHub’s Passbookenabled app, they have the option to “add to passbook.” Once the ticket is added to Passbook, fans can easily access their stored tickets to see when an upcoming event is taking place and where their seats are located. Plus, Passbook is time and location enabled, so the ticket will appear on the device’s lock screen as a fan approaches the venue, ready for the ticket to be scanned at the gate.
In September, through its integration with Paciolan, StubHub announced that its mobile app for iPhone and iPad supports Apple’s Passbook.
Borgata Rolls Out New Era Tickets’ Self-Serve Kiosks The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, NJ, recently rolled out two self-serve ticketing kiosks provided by New Era Tickets, the technology-driven, full-service ticketing subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor. The kiosks, implemented and serviced by New Era Tickets, and powered by Paciolan, New Era’s sister company, provide 24-hour, 7-daysa-week box office coverage – without staffing. The kiosks feature customized Borgata branding and are capable of servicing will-call pickup or ticket purchases in less than two minutes. Currently located on the Borgata’s concourse level and outside the existing box office, the kiosks are also anticipated to reduce ticketing lines and delays during peak times.
“The kiosks are great for supporting organizations with or without a freestanding box office,” said Ron Friedman, Director of IT at New Era Tickets. “They are very low maintenance and only require occasional software updates and ticket stock replacement after every 1,000 tickets.”

University Of Phoenix Stadium Earns Top IAVM Award Global Spectrum-managed University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ, was awarded the prestigious IAVM Venue Excellence Award for Stadiums in 2012. Stadiums were rated on operational excellence, teambuilding, as well as professional development, safety and security, and service to the community. As the recipient of the award, the University of Phoenix Stadium demonstrated how it excels in each of the criteria and delivers a positive customer experience on a regular basis at the facility.
Representatives from Global Spectrummanaged convention centers throughout the country hit the pavements of Washington, DC, (October 2-4) to conduct the first annual Global Spectrum National Sales Mission. A group of 12 Global Spectrum representatives from different venues participated as reps for their own venue, but sold one common theme: “Global Spectrum – Exceptional Venues for Successful Events!” Those participating were: Julie Davinroy, St. Charles Convention Center; Joe Capitanelli, St.Charles Convention Center; Shura Garnett, St. Charles Convention Center; Linda Persico, Conference Center Niagara Falls; Gretchen Battson, Duke Energy Convention Center; Justin Markle, Duke Energy Convention Center; Lori Coyne, Greater Richmond Convention Center; Amy Vicelli, MassMutual Center; Charles Drago, MassMutual Center; Stephanie Anderson, Miami Beach Convention Center; Cyndi Lorenzen; Iowa Events Center; and Jill Hericks, Century Center. The group had 16 pre-set appointments and 27 cold calls with various association meeting planners in the nation’s capital to educate them on who Global Spectrum is and what they do. Additional activities included breakfast delivery to a meeting planners’ group at Experient, lunch at Chef Geoff’s with industry speaker Joan Eisenstodt, and a reception at the Hotel Palomar’s “Urbana.” This sales mission was part of the Convention Center’s National Marketing Plan, which serves to increase the exposure of all Global Spectrummanaged convention centers through industry events, advertising, communication, and database management.

FACILITY NEWS MBCC Turns Profit For 2012 Fiscal Year The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC), Miami Beach, FL, accomplished a rare feat done only one other time in the venue’s long history. The MBCC ended its 2012 fiscal year with a final net profit of $72,444 against total gross Revenues topping $18.8 million. The milestone was reached through significant increases in gross revenue and decreases in total expense over what was budgeted. As is the case with the vast majority of convention centers, the venue had budgeted for a net loss of $990,657. The $72,000 net profit resulted in an impressive positive variance of over one million dollars. The staff was also able to top their internal goal of $1.3 million in business booked and held during the year. “The financial numbers we finished our fiscal year with are the result of the hard work of so many in this community,” said Global Spectrum’s Bob Balsam, General Manager of the MBCC. “Our Global Spectrum team, in close partnership with the City of Miami Beach, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, and along with the many Chambers, Associations, and local organizations, all contributed in ending our year by reaching a very uncommon and extremely exciting final result.”
Dustin Lynch Headlines Light Up UCF Light Up UCF, a 52-day holiday event that features outdoor ice-skating, carnival rides, light shows and holiday movies, opened its fifth year with a free concert by country star Dustin Lynch. This year, Light Up UCF, in partnership with local country radio station K92, welcomed country star Lynch to perform on November 18. More than 2,000 people attended the show, resulting in the biggest opening weekend in two years.

FACILITY NEWS Alan Jackson Tour Marks First Effort For Global Spectrum Presents Through the efforts of Brock Jones, Global Spectrum’s Vice President of Booking, the new Global Spectrum Presents promotional entity packaged five Alan Jackson tour dates through CAA for a concert series presentation at five Global Spectrum arenas throughout the country. Jackson performed at the Global Spectrum Presents concerts in October and November at Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls, NY; Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell, Lowell, MA; Iowa Events Center, Des Moines, IA; Sears Centre Arena, Hoffman Estates, IL; and the Sun National Bank Center, Trenton, NJ. The concert series hinged on Global Spectrum’s effort and teamwork from the very first day. Following the minute Jones booked the shows, five Global Spectrum marketers representing each building, Chris Lawrence at the Glens Falls Civic Center, Mike Soriano at Tsongas Center, Viki Arias at the Iowa Events Center, Erin Bilton at Sears Centre Arena, and Diana Zanetto at Sun National Bank Center, collaboratively approached CAA, one of the country’s top talent agencies, with a list of promotional ideas that included third parties, charities, radio promotions, and social media initiatives. CAA took the list and after discussing with Jackson’s manager, approved several ideas each marketer could then take into their
market to help the ticket-selling process. Among those were a radio/fan announce promotion, roadie for a day promotion, a signed set list, and use of Alan Jackson’s backstage dressing room during the show. The five marketers hosted a weekly conference call to discuss ticket sales, brainstorm new ideas, and help with any issues a market was facing. After the call, they updated CAA with a quick list of where each building stood that week. Global Spectrum Presents had its last show at Sun National Bank Center on November 15, and now the marketers can be proud of the way they worked as a team and represented Global Spectrum Presents for the first time. “We knew Global Spectrum Presents was an extremely viable new entity when it was created earlier this year,” Jones said. “The results of our first concert series and the incredible marketing efforts by the Global Spectrum marketing team certainly proved that everything we envisioned became a reality. Global Spectrum Presents is going to be an extremely important event and financial resource for many of our Global Spectrummanaged venues.” Jones noted that the success of the Alan Jackson tour has opened additional opportunities for Global Spectrum Presents with both CAA and WME (William Morris Endeavor).
Colonial Life Arena Celebrates 10 Years The Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC, celebrated its 10th anniversary of entertaining fans with an array of concerts and family shows. To commemorate the past 10 years, Colonial Life Arena hosted a monthlong celebration in November with several special events. The 10-year anniversary celebration kicked off with a 10K Chair Dare (November 2), which challenged three teams of four to sit in 10,000 seats in the arena’s lower bowl. The teams had six hours to compete for the first place prize of tickets to every non-athletic event for a year. Colonial Life Arena employees refereed the event to ensure each team had only one “sitter” at a time and that no seat was skipped. The winning team completed the challenge in less than three hours. To wrap up the 10-year celebrations, University of South Carolina Gamecock basketball joined the festivities as Men’s Basketball hosted Morgan State (November 16), and Women’s Basketball took on Clemson (November 18). Both games included giveaways for a select number of fans and a cake-cutting ceremony that featured the University of South Carolina’s Athletics Director, Ray Tanner, and Global Spectrum’s Lexie Boone, General Manager of the Colonial Life Arena. A USC women’s basketball game was the Arena’s first game on November 22, 2002. This year’s women’s basketball game was a “throwback event” with $1 admission.

FACILITY NEWS Grand Re-Opening For Enid Convention Hall More than 2,500 people turned out during a week’s worth of activities surrounding the grand re-opening of the Global Spectrum-managed Convention Hall in Enid, OK. The turnout pleased Convention Hall general manager Keller Taylor. “Our goal was to create the opportunity, via the right mix of events during the Grand Re-Opening Week, for the community to experience the historic facility for the first time, again,” said Keller Taylor, General Manager. “I believe we accomplished this through the committed and loyal management staff here in Enid, along with the support of Barry Strafacci, Global Spectrum, Regional Vice President; Dean Dennis, General Manager of the Global Spectrum-managed Owensboro, KY, Convention Center; Maria Rainsdon, General Manager of the Global Spectrummanaged Clovis (NM) Civic Center; and Eric Copeland, Executive Chef at the Global Spectrum-managed Pueblo Convention Center, Pueblo, CO,” Taylor added. FACILITY NEWS Iowa’s Premier Beer, Wine And Food Expo Sets New Record For the fifth year, Global Spectrum staff at the Iowa Events Center produced Iowa’s Premier Beer, Wine, and Food Expo in conjunction with Ovations Food Services and Hy-Vee, the presenting sponsor. More than 8,000 people attended the two-day event. The event offered a melting pot for culinary arts fans to sip, taste, and shop their way from wine and beer distributor samplings and selling their products to wine cork jewelry, kitchen gadgets, cooking demonstrations, wine and food pairings, and more.
p James Brown Arena opened its new Windsor Club with a ribbon cutting attended by the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority, city officials, local Chamber of Commerce members, and representatives of Windsor Fine Jewelers. The club, which includes membership for 200 people, is being utilized before, during, and after events.

Budweiser Gardens Contributes $24,352 To London Groups Budweiser Gardens in London, ON, in conjunction with its 10th Anniversary Celebration, has raised $24,352 that will be shared by local organizations Arts for All Kids and the George Bray Sports Association. Fundraising efforts included a VIP Gala, silent auction, London Knights 50-50 draw, and the collection of voluntary donations during a public open house.
Seven Days, 23 Events At Encana Centre Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Under 18 Championship began on November 7 at the EnCana Events Centre. Eight teams from across Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario Red and Blue, and the Atlantic Provinces, came to Dawson Creek for five days of pure hockey action.
Throughout the hockey tournament, the EnCana Events Centre hosted three banquets, including one for Jennifer Botterill, Olympic medalist for Women’s Hockey. After the games were completed, the Centre went into action to flip the building around for Cesar Millan and his Trust Your Instincts Tour on November 12.
Over the five days, 18 games were played that saw Ontario Blue, the underdog, emerge as the Gold Medal national champion.
The week of events finished with Alice Cooper and his “Raise the Dead” tour on Tuesday, November 13.

Potomac Nationals Select Front Row Marketing Services to Sell First-Ever Naming Rights for New Area Ballpark The Potomac Nationals selected Front Row Marketing Services to secure the naming rights for the club’s new state-of-the-art facility to be built in Northern Virginia, according to team owner Art Silber. It is Front Row’s first naming rights engagement in the Washington, DC area. “We are incredibly impressed with the background and experience that Front Row gives us and believe that they will lead us to what will be a new standard in the marketing of sponsorship partnerships,” said Silber. “Front Row recognizes the unique opportunity we provide a partner with hundreds of thousands of cars a day passing us on I-95, and a unique brand of baseball that has seen us send over 400 players to the major leagues.”

IN THE COMMUNITY MassMutual Center Aids Boys, Girls Club The MassMutual Center Community Service Committee participated for the second year in the Springfield (MA) Boys and Girls Club Festival of Trees, a program that allows local businesses to decorate a Christmas tree that is displayed in the Center’s gallery.
Visitors can bid on the tree to take home. All funds raised were donated to the Springfield Boys and Girls Club. This year, the MassMutual Center decorated the tree with the theme “It’s Snowing Cats and Dogs.”
SOEC Staff Assists Ironman Canada For the fourth consecutive year, Global Spectrum’s staff at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) Complex in Penticton, BC, volunteered at the 30th Annual Subaru Ironman Canada race on August 26. For their efforts in operating an aid station, Ironman Canada awarded the SOEC Complex $500, which was donated to KidSport, a local charity providing athletic grants to youth. The SOEC Complex’s team was tasked with setting up, operating, and disassembling the course’s largest aid station, requiring a crew of 60 dedicated volunteers. More than 2,000 triathletes completed Penticton’s grueling Ironman race that included a 2.4-mile swim, 112mile bike, and 26.2-mile run.

Brian Skow Named Operations Head At Abbotsford Centre Brian Skow has been named Director of Operations at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre in Penticton, BC, Canada. He formerly was Director of Operations at the Comcast Arena at Everett in Everett, WA. Brian Skow
Skow joined Global Spectrum in 2003 as Operations Manager at the Comcast Arena. He was named Director of Operations in 2008. He will continue to monitor operations at the Comcast Arena. He serves on Global Spectrum’s Sustainability Committee.
He has been in the food and beverage, and sports and entertainment industries for over 10 years. Over the last four years, Enge’s high standards and strong leadership abilities have been instrumental in building a solid food and beverage team within the General Motors Centre; one of few Global Spectrum venues with an in-house Food and Beverage operation. Jason and his team are constantly raising the level of services and pushing the envelope to be at the top of the latest Food and Beverage trends. Under Enge’s guidance the GM Centre’s food and beverage team have expanded their roles to include acting as the exclusive caterers to the University Of Ontario Institute Of Technology and the Regent Theatre. Seeta Rampersaud Joins Palm Beach Center As Finance Director Seeta Rampersaud has been named Director of Finance at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, FL. She formerly was the Property Accountant at Pinnacle Hotel Management for Seeta Rampersaud more than four years. Rampersaud brings 14 years of accounting experience to the Global Spectrum-managed Palm Beach County Convention Center. “We are extremely pleased to have Seeta join our team,” said Dave Anderson, Global Spectrum’s Regional Vice President and General Manager at Palm Beach County Convention Center. “Seeta brings a vast financial background of our market and we look forward to working with her.” A native of Guyana, Rampersaud earned her B.S. in Finance from Oakwood College in Huntsville, AL, and later a master’s in Accounting from Strayer University.
Owensboro Convention Center Expands Booking Sales Team The Global Spectrum-managed Owensboro Convention Center, scheduled to open in early 2014, has expanded its sales team with the promotion of a current employee and the hiring of two new employees. Laura Alexander has been promoted to Director of Sales and Marketing. She joined Global Spectrum in March 2012 as the Sales Manager for the Convention Center. She will oversee all sales and marketing aspects of the convention center, as well as focus on booking state and national conferences, conventions, and events.
She will also work with brides and grooms to create their special wedding day at the Owensboro Convention Center. Doris Sparks has joined the Convention Center’s team as Event and Sponsorship Manager. Sparks has more than 11 years of experience in both trade show development, as well as business marketing in the Owensboro and Evansville areas. Sparks is a previous downtown business owner and had served on the board of Downtown Owensboro Inc.
Brandy Dant joined the Convention Center as the Sales Manager. She has over seven years of sales experience with three years dedicated to corporate accounts.

In her new role, Dant’s primary focus will be to work with local businesses to accommodate their banquet, meeting, and conferencing needs.
The multi-purpose facility will feature more than 45,000 sq. ft. exhibit hall and an additional 47,000 sq. ft. of meeting and banquet space, which includes two ballrooms.
HOW YOU GROWIN’ Mike Dyer Named GM At New Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, ME Mike Dyer, a 40-year veteran of operating public assembly facilities, has been named the first General Manager of the new Cross Insurance Center, which will open next fall in Bangor, ME. Dyer joins Global Spectrum after nearly 25 years of experience running the nearby Bass Park Complex for the city of Bangor.
Dyer first joined the Bass Park Complex in 1988 and had been the director of the facility since 1993. The Cross Insurance Center is being built adjacent to the property. Cross Insurance Center is a $65-million arena for concerts, sports and other special events. It will have an adjacent convention center with a large ballroom, pre-function space, and meeting rooms. Dyer has been heavily involved in several business groups in Bangor. He was the ex-officio director of the Bangor Chamber of Commerce and serves on the boards of the Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Bangor Garden Show.
