Six requirements to reach 3rd Degree Black Belt

I-Poomse (6) II-One Step Fighting Techniques (1-10) III-Self Defense (13 total) IV-Board Breaking (5) V-Free Sparring (two rounds) VI-Written Exam (essay & questions)

SECTION I - POOMSE: JOON-GUP YE-JANG

(Must also know Kum-Gang, Tae-Geuk Ye-Jang, Tae-Geuk Sa-Jang, Tae-Geuk Yuke-Jang and Tae-Geuk Pal-Jang) On certain motions when changing directions your feet must first come together. This will happen by sliding your left foot to your right foot (* denotes this motion) or by sliding your right foot to your left foot (** denotes this motion).

Raise left arm up and Pivot on feet and turn step back/left with body under arms as your right foot you grab attackers wrists

Apply pressure by pushing attackers right arm against left elbow, Ki-hap

Hook attackers right elbow with left arm

Back fist to face holding attackers wrist with right hand

SECTION IV - BOARD BREAKING: Students must demonstrate the following 1. JUMPING BACK KICK - back kick or back spinning kick 2. UPPER BODY TECHNIQUE - knifehand, elbow or fist 3. COMBINATION BREAK - 2 techniques in a row 4. CREATIVE KICK - your choice of any technique SECTION V - FREE SPARRING: Students must demonstrate two rounds of Olympic style free sparring with all gear SECTION VI - WRITTEN EXAM: Students must pick up the written exam form at Dojang Part I - Essay: will consist of 50-250 words about your taekwondo experiences Part II - Questions: each of the five questions will be answered in a paragraph

Once a student knows all of the material in this guide, they should pick up a test form to prepare for the philosophical (written) portion of the belt exam. Students may only test with the instructors permission.
