Riding Season Returns

This has been the hottest and wettest summer we’ve seen in quite some time. If you ever wanted to practice your wet road riding skills, you had a ton of opportunities. I’m still packing a rain suit on most runs but it’s staying packed in the bag lately. The weather’s getting a bit cooler too and there are a ton of rallies and runs showing up on the event calendar. We put as many as we can into our Upcoming Events on page 31 but you need to check out our online calendar at

When I was a kid, Art Linkletter had a show called “House Party” which had a segment “Kids Say The Darndest Things”. He’d talk to young kids on the show and the conversations were hilarious. Anyway, I got to thinking about that show when I was reading some of the comments that people left on the facebook page for a recent motorcycle survey that the folks at Ride Smart Florida posted. The purpose of the survey was to gather information about Florida riders and also an opportunity for riders to communicate their concerns to the FDOT. Of course there were some who saw the survey as a government intrusion and others who viewed it as a means to bolster the ‘bring

Doc said, had he been wearing a helmet, he’d of broke his neck. I think its 50/50. Hence, freedom of choice!” “Helmets are a personal choice, personally I value my life so I wear mine!” (and a response to the above) Why is it that most who wear helmets can’t just say it is their personal choice and leave it at that? They always have to get that little hateful, superior like dig in. “Personally I value my life so I wear mine!” Again, your opinion. Your attitude. I took their survey and by the time I was done I was pretty frustrated. More regs and rules to get endorsed along with mandatory helmet and armored safety gear along with reflection. Definitely a liberal motivated survey. My opinion. Mount poles to bikes with hunter orange flag, bright banners, strobes and flashing lights. How about make it illegal to use your cell phone at all when driving and painting the bumpers of old peoples cars bright orange so we can see who they are when we approach an intersection.

MSF 100 Motorcyclists Naturalistic Study to Improve Countermeasures

including other motorcyclist and traffic safety organizations, are considering grants and projects to fund analyses beyond the ten for which MSF has already budgeted. “The MSF 100 study is being conducted to support motorcycle safety research, with particular emphasis on results that offer ongoing guidance in rider training,” said MSF’s Director of Quality Assurance and Research, Dr. Sherry Williams. “The study utilizes a naturalistic methodology that provided researchers with information captured by instruments installed on one-hundred motorcycles ridden for a combined nine-thousandplus hours by real riders in real riding conditions.” “The MSF is grateful for the investments made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and VTTI in conducting the Feasibility Study* that made our study possible,” said MSF President Tim Buche. “The strong, collaborative relationships that MSF shares with organizations like NHTSA and VTTI result in real safety solutions that benefit motorcyclists and all roadway users.” The MSF 100 Study, which tracked participants in Virginia, California, Florida and Arizona, is expected to be a rich source of insight for years to come on a wide range of questions and points of interest for an international array of safety professionals generally, but riders and rider safety professionals specifically. “The contribution of the MSF 100 study is the key-on to key-off, 360 degree description of motorcycle riders, their surroundings, their capabilities and their needs, using the most recent research methods,” said Shane McLaughlin, VTTI’s research scientist / group leader – Motorcycle Research Group.

• MSF Provided funding of $1,600,000, as well as support for the study in the form of products and services. • VTTI supported the development of the data acquisition systems, hardware, and sensors, at an estimated cost of $600,000. • The naturalist methodology has become a standard in car, truck, and roadway-related research. Data for the 100 Car Study (Dingus et al., 2006) were collected and analyzed in 2003-2004, and are still being used today by public and private entities. • The MSF 100 study utilized seven motorcycle models that encompassed touring, cruiser and sport-type motorcycles. These motorcycle types make up 85 percent of on-road motorcycles in use today. • In November of 2011, the first instrumented motorcycle launched the data-acquisition phase of the study in Virginia. • The remaining 99 motorcycles were instrumented for the study in Virginia, California, Florida and Arizona. The study’s use of four different geographic areas resulted in data collection from a variety of riding and weather conditions and roadway environments. • Depending on when participants entered the study, some motorcycles were tracked for as long as 2 years. • Approximately 38,581 trips were recorded. A “trip” begins when the motorcycle engine is started and ends when it is turned off. • Combined, these trips totaled approximately 9,478 hours of riding, with a total of 363,000 miles. • Participants in this study were recorded in over 42 states in the U.S. Riding was recorded day and night, in clear weather, rain, and snow. Temperatures ranged from 16 degrees F to 109 degrees F. • The study included frequent and infrequent riders. Frequent riders rode 145 days per year on average, while infrequent riders rode on average approximately 30 days per year. Participant ages ranged from 21 to 80. 78% of the participant riders were male and 22% were female.

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 11, 2014 – Now that the data-acquisition phase of the MSF 100 Motorcyclists Naturalistic Study is complete, preliminary results are being shared at various transportation safety venues, including the upcoming 10th International ifz-MSF Motorcycle Safety Conference, sponsored by the MSF and Germany’s Institute for Motorcycle Safety (ifz), in Cologne, Germany, on September 29 and 30. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation and its members partnered with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute on this world’s first, large-scale, naturalistic motorcycle riding study. The 3.5-year study began by collecting data from instruments installed on motorcycles owned by study participants as the bikes were ridden in normal day-to-day use. Sensors and video cameras recorded all motorcycle operator inputs such as steering, acceleration, braking and lean, as well as recording all motions of the motorcycle, current riding conditions and the actions of surrounding traffic. The motorcycle instrumentation was designed to be as inconspicuous as possible, so that participant-riders would forget their rides were being monitored. As the LiveWire tour continues across the country, the number of test rides are starting to build on Harley-Davidson’s electric motorcycle prototype and riders are finding out what the future may, or may not, look like. Remember Baby Boomers, we were supposed to be cruising around like George Jetson by now. As cools as that sounds, can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if today’s drivers were airborne? Though the flying car is still mostly a dream, there are many advances being made in the transportation universe. One of those areas of exploration involves finding alternatives to our petroleum based fuels which has led to the development of powerful batteries and the growing interest in electric powered motorcycles. When Harley-Davidson gets involved, you know it’s no longer just a future fantasy. Stumbleweeds (aka Road Chapters)

(This is another report from the road by Clay Douglass as he and his wife made their motorcycle journey from the Florida Keys to Alaska this summer.) Utah to Vancouver Island Note we have changed the name of our column. Janie and I refer to ourselves as Stumbleweeds. Friends of ours gave us this label because we are similar to tumbleweeds in that we wander here and there rather than taking a direct route. Our wayward path leads us to stumble into places off the beaten track. This method has lead to many unique places and people, which in turn has enriched our lives. The moniker hits the mark. Near due north on I-15 we passed through Provo and Salt Lake City. Clouds associated with a storm system in Nevada were getting closer. We hope to ride around it’s northern edge before it started moving faster. Our original plan was to traverse US 50 across Nevada, aka the loneliest road, but heavy rainfall and flash floods along that route nixed the idea. .We could see the Great Salt Lake in the distance from time to time. Close to our right the Wasatch Mountains towered above. Several had snow caps. The valleys outside the cities were dark green. Riding on interstates out west gives one lots of time to think. Other than watching the traffic which tends to be thin or the occasional pothole it is relaxing. Too much so for me. I enjoy the back roads far more. No doubt the interstate system is the way to go if you need to 10

cover a lot of ground in a hurry. I use them as much as possible when doing Iron Butt Association or Long Distance Rider events. I tried to focus on music, to no avail. My thoughts kept creeping back to cold. Since New Mexico cool temps and strong winds were our constant companion. Today was no exception. On the secondary highways small towns break up the ride. We have found great food, and friendly folks to be the norm. Whenever possible we try to have lunch at a local restaurant. Many if not most of the time someone will inquire about our journey and the Crazy Horse. The trailer in particular draws lots of interest. At the moment the thought of getting off the expressway and warming up while having a hot meal sounded great. The weather pattern however forced us to press on. If we stopped for the night at this location the rain would catch us. Cold is not fun. Wet and cold is worse. Our campfires produced scant warmth from the chill at night. While neither of us are fond of being cold, still we smile when we recall how chilly we were some nights. It goes to show a bad weather day when your having fun is better than a perfect day when your not having fun. I expected to see vast potato fields when we crossed the Idaho border. Instead cattle and hay fields were common. The Snake River valley is wide as it crosses southern Idaho. Last fall on our way home from Alaska we toured the Snake River near Hell’s Canyon. High, rocky, cliffs in that area bore no resemblance to the fertile plain between Twin Falls and Boise. As soon as we crossed into Oregon w w w.gofarmag.com

at Ontario we turned onto US 26 toward the small town of Unity. The stars were out when we arrived so we spent the night at the motel. I stayed in the shower until all the hot water was gone. Unity has 1 1/2 stores, one bar/restaurant, one motel, and a few homes. This area has it all, friendly locals, excellent riding and scenery. We camped at a Forest Service campground in the nearby mountains for a few nights. This allowed us to visit Unity a couple of more times before heading north to cross the Columbia River. Horse Heaven Hills were just to the north of the bridge. Long ago herds of wild ponies grazed here. Now days it is covered with farms. As we topped the first mountain we could see MT. Adams and Rainer in the distance. Next we crossed the Cascade range. We had no precipitation until we neared the summit. Lucky for us it wasn’t heavy, just enough sleet/freezing rain to make life interesting. Shortly after we were going down the west slope things improved. The skies were still overcast, but no rain. Our friends Popcorn Harold and Ellen lived in Key West for a long time prior to moving the Olympic Peninsula. Harold sold popcorn at the daily sunset celebration hence the name. Ellen was hired as a lusty wench on the pirate vessel Wolf. They are fun upbeat people who insure a good time. Fortunately our arrival coincided with REDNECK SATURDAY! This event developed by Popcorn & Ellen consists of shooting cans suspended in the back yard with a pellet

pistol. If you hit one you must do a Jello shot. A miss requires downing two shots! Between Ellen’s cooking and Harold’s addiction to ice cream being equal to mine I had to loosen my belt a notch by the time we departed for Vancouver Island. I had to overeat as it is impossible to maintain a figure like mine by eating only when hungry. (To Be Continued…)

Mad Beach Bike Fest

The 2014 edition of the Mad Beach Bike Fest took place on Sunday, Sept 14th adjacent to the Gulf Of Mexico in Madeira Beach, FL. Madeira Way is shut down to motorcycles and pedestrians only for the day and filled with vendors, music, food and good times and all of the local shops and restuarnts are open for business. According to organizer Suzi King, the event has been a big hit with the local businesses and the community and they are considering plans for expansion of the event.

Biker With A Badge By M. W. Simpson

It’s that time of the year when a lot of us decide to hit the road and take a long trip. Each year I make a run to Northern Indiana with a group of my brothers. This year was no exception except for the fact that we went at the end of August instead of the beginning of September. With that being said, I think most of our readers know the drill when it comes to preparing for a long ride, but newer riders please take note. I took my bike in for a couple of minor repairs and an oil change. I actually had about a 1,000 miles to go before my next oil change but seeing I was about to do a couple of thousand miles of long hot hours on the road, I got it done early. It was a good thing too, because while inspecting my bike for service, Ryan at Tampa HD noticed a nail in my rear tire. At first I thought there was going to be a major problem as in “my brand tire is not a stock item” and it was going to take five days to get one. I was to leave on the trip in 3 days. The guys canvassed the tire world and found one that same day here locally. Another tip…tire insurance is good! My rear tire was only a year old and costs a lot. Thanks to tire insurance, for a $50 deductible, I got a brand new tire. For you newbies, it is unsafe to plug a motorcycle tire and most bike shops refuse to patch a tire. I’m a big advocate for warranties, both on my bike and on the wheels & rims. A couple months ago, I went in for a very minor oil leak. The first thought was it was a gasket near the oil filter. A closer look found a hairline crack in a cylinder head. This was an $800 repair…all I paid was my $50 deductible. Anyway, with all the fluids, brakes, lights, tires and air pressure checked, all that was left was a wash and wax and loading up the bike luggage. 18

Kick stands up (KSU) was at 4 am in order to beat the rush hour traffic around Tampa, Ocala and Gainesville. We topped off our fuel, put on sun screen (see last issue) and hit the road! Remember when traveling in a group that your fuel stops will be governed by the smallest tank in the pack. For us it was about every 150 miles for a fuel and incidentals stop. If you’re trying to stay on a schedule, I suggest your gas stops consist of topping off, stretching, a bathroom stop and if you don’t have it with you, a to go beverage. Then get back on the road. Plan on a stop for lunch but don’t over eat. Getting sleepy on the road is not a good thing. We rode hard {about 14 hours} and made it to our planned half way stop for the night in Tennessee. After a good dinner and shoot’n the breeze a bit, we hit the sack. Not so early of a start the next day. We had the hotel breakfast buffet and then made sure the bikes where ready to roll. We actually brought a chase truck and trailer with our 10 bike crew. Good thing too…we had a malfunction with one of the ponies. So, rather than losing road-time, we loaded the bike on the trailer and dealt with it at the destination. I have mentioned it before, but the one problem with group rides is it’s all about getting to the destination. We passed by so many places and things that it made me think about making another ride by myself or with just one or two friends to stop and see the sights. We blasted by civil war battlefields and historic sites by the dozens. Broke my heart to see the exits for bourbon distilleries slip away, not to mention the Corvette Museum that went viral on the internet when a sinkhole opened up and swallowed some vintage vettes. Zoomed right through Atlanta, passed the Coke headquarters and the Varsity Hamburger joint. I have been there and although it’s not the greatest burger I’ve had, it’s not bad and it is an iconic spot in Atlanta near Georgia Tech. One day I’m going to get to stop at Connie’s Sausage country store in Georgia. We did get some great views riding through the mountains and I’m always amazed at the giant wind turbines at the wind farms. Life is short and w w w.gofarmag.com

nobody gets out alive…so see the sights. We made it to the destination in northern Indiana about 9 hours later and had a great time at the event. We stayed in a great Hilton which was down the street from the party as we deserved the comfort after 23 hours on the road. We were hoping for some cool riding weather in Indiana, like the previous week where they were enjoying 60 degree nights. But no, we dragged the hot weather up from Florida and it was in the 80’s. Nevertheless, it was about the ride and friends. We had a couple of delays coming home. Fixed the one bike but another one developed a battery problem. We usually make it south of Atlanta coming home and then head to Tampa the next day in about 6-8 hours. But this time we stayed in the same place in Tennessee which made a long ride home. We had a safe ride and the only rain we hit was in Hernando County and even then it was a light drizzle. All in all, a well prepared ride made it pretty much uneventful on the road. Got home and pulled into the man-cave, checking my odometer. 2,458 miles…home sweet home and my own bed! Get out and ride. B-safe

As someone who is still fairly new to motorcycling, how much would I save by buying a CBR600RR rather than a CBR1000RR? It would be generally expected that the smaller cc’d motorcycle would be cheaper to insure. This however depends greatly on the rider and the area in which you live, as well as the performance of the cycle. It is always best to obtain a quote for each cycle, and compare from there. Prices for insurance may vary by brand of cycle as well. When you are getting insurance quotes ask the insurance agent to quote several bikes. This will give you a feel for the cost of different styles and sizes of bikes. I ride with passenger a lot of the time. Is there any additional coverage I should get? Each state has different laws, and rules regarding insurance. There can be many correct answers to this question based on where you live. Verify that your passenger has medical insurance

The Dream Ride Experience Raises Over $1.1 Million for Special Olympics Athletes, Breaks Records Through MultiFaceted Weekend of Events FARMINGTON, Conn., Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dream Ride Experience, a multi-day series of events for Special Olympics culminated in Farmington, CT, last weekend, with The Dream Show, an exotic and collector car show as well as the annual Dream Ride, a 40-mile cruise through the neighboring Connecticut countryside. Thousands of motorcycles converged at the Farmington Club for the police escorted ride through neighboring scenic towns. Meanwhile, at the Farmington Club, an impressive collection of over 400 cars assembled for judging by a selected group of auto experts including Wayne Carini, from the TV show, “Chasing Classic Cars.” The event included over 30 pet adoption centers, live music by local bands and by acclaimed country band, Lonestar and other vendors. Over 100 Special Olympic athletes from across the country as well as Canada and Australia were brought together with thousands of motorcyclists and auto enthusiasts. As a grocery store wholesaler, Bozzuto’s Inc and its sponsors of the Dream Ride, IGA retailers and Hometown Foundation presented an impressive array of buffetstyle breakfast and lunch meals that fed thousands of guests as well as booths offering food and beverage samples. The focus of the Dream Ride is the Special Olympics athletes who had the opportunity to participate in various unified events such as fishing and miniature golf with their families and Dream Ride participants. They were also treated to The Twilight Dream Cruise on Saturday with leading classic and hot-rod drivers carrying Special Olympic athletes from Papa’s Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in New Britain to The Farmington Club for a huge dinner and entertainment.

Additionally, the sale of event clothing, raffle tickets, souvenirs and other donations continued the fund raising throughout the weekend, helping to raise the total. As the event end neared, donor Mike Fux contributed an additional $50,000 to exceed the Dream Ride $1 million goal set by Michael Bozzuto, the event’s founder. “We did it!” Bozzuto exclaimed from the stage as he gave awards to a large group of participants, sponsors and athletes, “What an effort from everyone who participated—no matter how big or small the donation—it all works together to continue the great work of Special Olympics in celebrating the accomplishments of all these special athletes!” he added. The Dream Ride kicked off with a 7-day, 1900-mile motorcycle trip that left West Palm Beach, Florida on August 16, arriving in Farmington, CT on August 22. At each stop en route, Special Olympic athletes greeted the riders, were presented with Dream Ride medals and enjoyed the camaraderie surrounding the motorcycles and bikers. The Dream Ride also gave each local Special Olympics chapter a check for $1,000 to help continue their sports programs. The original Dream Riders were joined by additional riders and escorts at different legs of the journey and were met in Virginia by sponsors from Australia who joined the caravan in exotic cars from Bozzuto’s collection. Bozzuto started The Dream Ride with a few friends to raise funds for Special Olympics in 2002, following several other smaller donations to the charity. It has grown every year and now encompasses a year-long series of events that culminates in the annual August Dream Ride Experience. “It is an ‘experience’ because until you actually see how big and how exciting this event is, you can’t understand it. But once you do, it becomes personal—you feel the bond with the athletes and all the other participants and it changes you, just like it changes the lives of those athletes who make Special Olympics their way to change how they feel and how they live— we all benefit!” Bozzuto stated. Editor’s Note: This is something a bit different this month for our Veterans Info page. I’ve been very blessed throughout my life to have always had the peace and security of a roof over my head and a place to call home. The current plight of the many homeless in this country, especially military vets, should be a concern to all of us. The following appeal came into the office and I’m passing it on to our readers in the hopes that anyone who can lend a hand, or a dollar, to Liberty Manor, which is located in Tampa, will do so. Connie’s appeal for help follows: Please Help Our Veterans I would like to reacquaint your organization with a homeless and disabled veterans program. My husband, David Lindsay and I were the Brandon couple that made headlines due to a hit & run motorcycle accident that left my husband and me severely injured May 15th. I am in a quandary as to how to financially support Liberty Manor – a meritorious initiative that we started ten years ago. As you might imagine, the costs for a program the size of Liberty Manor are astronomical. I was way over my head when I thought I could pull this off by myself. I purchased the residence for the veterans but was unaware that I would be required to install a fire suppression system. When you house more than four individuals that are not related to each other Florida State Statute requires a fire suppression system, fire extinguishers, as well as monitoring services, two phone lines, etc. All and all, this cost an unanticipated $85,000.00! I actually could have purchased another house for that amount of money! I survived this hurdle by procuring a personal loan, which today, I still owe $82K!

I have encountered other un anticipated expenses since then such as termite treatment which I paid from my personal funds AND paid for all the veterans to stay at a hotel for two days (this included all expenses such as food) as they did not have the ability to cook while in a hotel and they were homeless so they could not purchase food on their own. Then, the house was infested with bedbugs, which we got from a Veteran Per Diem Grant program! We disposed of all of our carpeting and replaced it with tile, disposed of all draperies and replaced them with verticals, threw out seventeen perfectly good beds and replaced them with all new beds - again at my own expense. Liberty Manor does not receive any government funding because the veterans that we serve do not have drug or alcohol addictions and if you opt for the VA grant, the VA will require our veterans to attend drug and alcohol addiction classes and dietary classes which our veterans refuse to be under the scrutiny of the VA again. The veterans at Liberty Manor have a real distrust of government and it is their contention that if they are overweight, they are content with their physical condition and do not wish to go to dietary classes on Saturday mornings at 8am. Liberty Manor fills the “void in services” that are NOT duplicated by any other agency, this program is truly unique and we feel fortunate that we provide this service to our veterans here in Tampa. It is my hope that your organization might consider adopting Liberty Manor in an effort to continue providing this service to our homeless veterans - at least until I am unable to continue my personal support. I am merely a middle class civilian who stepped up in an attempt to make a difference in our community, coupled with my love for veterans for making it possible for me to procure a college degree and enjoy the freedom of religion and many other rights that we have in America – it made Liberty Manor for Veterans a perfect union. I am convinced that any organization would find it rewarding to assist fifty veterans that we

In the crash of July ‘13, my trailer was totaled along with my bike. So after recuperating and getting back up on two wheels again I needed to build a new trailer. It took a little longer then I had expected because I wanted to make a few changes from the original. I got the trailer built and figured the best way to road test it would be to load-R-up and take a short close-to-home road trip. It had been many years since I had been to St. Augustine, I figured I could use a gallon or two or the water from the Fountain of Youth, plus I had never been to the top of the lighthouse or inside the fort. I wouldn’t ta ever guessed St. Augustine was such a popular tourist attraction especially as a camping destination. I got a real reality check when I tried to book a camp site near the city over the weekend. All I got was, notta, got nuttin’, nope not here, I couldn’t believe I couldn’t get a camp site! I kept calling around enlarging my circle until I finally found a state park about 20 miles south of the city, Faver Dykes State Park. To be honest the reviews I read about the park where mixed about 50/50, It didn’t sound like a place I would put on the top of my list of parks but at least there was a camp site available in fact there were several, all I needed was a spot to pitch my tent for the weekend and besides some of

I would love to have this one and probably would of gotten one on the spot if they had a color I liked. The coolest part was when Kevin the sales guy cranked it up while I was sitting on it. That vibration was a feeling that I really didn’t know how much I missed until that moment. Could it be I’m not healing fast enough because I don’t have that vibration under me keeping things alive? Live to Ride & Ride to Live is what the saying is, I imagine who ever put this together must have been on a Harley, it’s the only way to live. Oh boy as I sit here and write this I look out the window, it’s raining again. Why does this not surprise me? Well, I guess that’s all for this month. Just a couple days ago here in Labelle hubby was at the light and a white unmarked official’s car come up behind him screeching his brakes… Hubby was able to move as the car stopped alongside him. Once they got going and headed in different directions hubby decided to do a u-turn to go see about getting the car’s license plate number but the car rolled out so fast hubby couldn’t catch him. Just goes to show, doesn’t matter where ya are it can happen and no vehicle is an exception to almost hitting someone. Pay attention and be ready, it can happen to you! Off Road: A Different Type of Sport

Over the years I think I have been to every type of motorcycle event out there and most of them I have given a try. There are tons of different ways to enjoy riding a motorcycle and there are also all

kinds of different types of motorcycles for different types of riding. Recently I was lucky enough to mark another one off the list: The Hill climb. Hill climbs have been around since the 1930’s and is one of the oldest types of motorcycle racing around. The participants race up a hill with markers on the side showing how many feet they are able to go. To add some more fun to the game, the riders are also graded on time. The object is to get to the top of the hill faster than any of the other racers. Now I have done some nasty hill climbs in my days riding off road, but nothing like this. This is a straight up gnarly hill that looks like it would almost be impossible to just walk up. To make things even more interesting, the riders only get a 20 foot run at the base of the hill. They back up against a fence and just launch the bike as hard as they can off the start. Then they have to try to negotiate the holes and the ruts without getting the bike sideways or flipping it over. What I also found really fun to watch was the riders that didn’t make it up the hill trying to get their bikes down! For safety reasons they have catchers up on the side of the hill. Their job is to try to keep the bike and the riders from falling all the way back down the hill for the unlucky riders that don’t make it. Those guys should win a trophy as well. a bull ride, these guys throw themselves in front of falling motorcycles and people so the bikes don’t kill the crowd at the bottom of the hill. Watching the different participants though out the day was really enjoyable. Some of the riders were really fast and they just made it look too easy, but they were far a few in between compared to the riders that just didn’t make it. The most impressive ride for me to witness was a 13 year old girl that took a KTM 125SX 120 feet up the hill. Impressive to see a girl that young ride that well. Of course I watched her dad make it up the hill 3 times, so the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Another part of this event that I really enjoyed was seeing some of the bikes. Most of them had been modified just for this type of riding. Huge motors with extended swingarms and large rear sprockets. Some of them looked like they were built in the garage while others were really well built. Some crazy stuff! If you ever have a chance to go see one of these events, do so. Take the family and go enjoy the fun. You can find a safe spot to watch and it’s a good time for all involved. You’ll be sure to see some really cool bikes and the racing can’t be beat!

Summer is over now and Fall is moving in. I took a short trip to Virginia for a week and ended up there for a month. It was beautiful in the mountains and all the bikers were enjoying riding thru the greenery. I sure wish I had my bike with me, maybe next time. I did attend an event in Naples, FL the second weekend in September. It was the Hell Yeah Bike rally put on at Randyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Fish Restaurant by Mike DeWitt and Brenda Sue. They had a variety of vendors there, a slow race, bike show and gave away a LOT of great prizes. Bikers came in from Ft. Myers, Naples and even a few from other areas. It was a lot of fun! Now we have a lot of our huge bike nights coming up starting with Cape Coral in October and Ft. Myers in November. See you all there and have a safe and fun-filled October
