Scripture Hebrews 2:1-4

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

So Great Salvation 1. Starts with Jesus • The revelation of God’s great salvation in the gospel converges on Christ. • He is and He has "so great salvation." • The fact that Christ is the centre of salvation indicates that the message brings with it a very serious warning, and severe consequences for ignorance of it. • From this exhortation, we learn of judgement and God’s justice. 2. Preached by eye-witnesses • The Apostles wrote and spoke, confirming what Christ had already said and done. • They are not originators of the gospel, not inventors of any new truth. • Jesus told them that the Holy Spirit would come and bring to their remembrance the things He had told them (John 16). 3. Confirmed by God, through the Holy Spirit • Jesus told them that the Holy Spirit would come and bring to their remembrance the things He had told them (John 16). • Peter preached the first post-Pentecost sermon in Acts 2, in the power of the Holy Spirit. • During the Apostolic period, the message was confirmed by signs, wonders and miracles by the Holy Spirit. • Beware of miracles and signs which people seek for their own sake. The focus must never be taken from the gospel that Jesus spoke.
