So get ready… read Hebrews 11:1-12:2... be inspired… be taught… and let’s all learn to run the race of faith.
By Faith Abel Made a Sacrifice
A very long time ago the first 2 babies were born into the world. The babies grew into big boys. Cain, the big brother was a fruit farmer. Abel, the little brother looked after sheep. Their dad and mum taught them about God. When they were old enough, Cain and Abel learnt how to worship God. God had very special instructions about how they should worship Him. Cain did not listen to God’s way. How very sad. Cain thought he had a better way. He took some of his best fruit and gave it to God. But God was not pleased with Cain. Abel listened to God’s way and worshipped just like God told him to. He brought his best little lamb and killed it and gave it to God. God was pleased with Abel.
By Faith Noah Built an Ark God spoke to Noah. God had a special warning, ‘I am going to make it rain and rain until it floods and the whole world is destroyed. Build an ark and I will keep you safe’. Noah had never ever seen rain before, but he believed God. Lots of people laughed at Noah, but he still believed God. God did not send the rain for 120 years but Noah kept on believing God. Noah built the ark and warned all the laughing people just as if it was already raining! When the rain came, it poured and flooded. All the people, animals and plants were drowned. All except Noah and his family. God was pleased with Noah.
By Faith Amram & Jochebed Hid Their Baby Amram & Jochebed were married. They had some children and Jochebed was expecting a new baby in just a few weeks. They were happy. But they could not be really happy all the time because they were slaves. Everyday they had to make bricks just by using straw. They had to work very hard and very fast or else they got whipped. The King was their cruel master. One day he said ‘If any of my slaves (he had 4000!) have a baby boy then I will drown it in the river.’ What a wicked master! Lots of little boys were born and the King threw them into the river! It was terrible! Soon it was time for Jochebed to have her baby…and… o no! It was a beautiful little boy! Amram was a good dad and Jochebed was a good mum and they were not scared of the wicked King, so they hid their little baby boy in a basket and trusted God to look after him. And God did. The little boy grew up into a man called Moses. God was pleased with Amram and Jochebed.
By Faith Enoch Went to Heaven Without Dying There was once an old man named Enoch who used to go for walks with God. He did it all the time! One day Enoch and God walked on and on and on until God said, ‘Enoch you are a long way from home, you had better come and stay with me’. And God took Enoch off earth and let him into heaven without him even dying! God was pleased with Enoch.
By Faith Moses Made a Choice
Because Moses family were slaves, he should have been a slave too. But when he was a baby hiding in the basket from the wicked king, a princess found and rescued him. She adopted Moses, let him live in her palace and treated him just like her own son. Moses went to school in the palace. He grew up smart, rich, handsome, famous and strong. He became the Prince of Egypt. When Moses was a grown up man, he made a choice. Moses chose to become a slave instead of a prince. To be poor instead of rich. To live in the desert instead of the palace. Moses left his friends, his fun, his life… everything! Everyone in Egypt thought he was crazy! What a stupid thing to do! Actually, Moses’ choice was not crazy or stupid. Moses knew about things they did not know about. Moses knew about God. Moses knew about God’s big plan. Moses left everything to serve God. God was pleased with Moses.
By Faith... Gideon Rahab Barak David Samson Jephthah etc etc...
They fought great battles, won fights, were brave and strong, shut lion’s mouths, saw dead people become alive again, were chained up and put into prison, had no home, no proper clothes, no money, no friends… They all pleased God.

Faith Without Works is Dead
Wow! All these people did all these things... By faith?! Yes, faith is a powerful thing.
Faith is not just something you think in your head. It’s something you show by your life! What do you mean?
A dead body does not do anything. No talking, no walking, no breathing, no thinking… The Bible tells us about “dead faith.” Faith that does not do anything, just like a dead body. We know these people had faith because of what they did. God was pleased with them because of what they did.
I always thought that faith was just believing God. Isn’t it? Not really. Satan and the demons believe so much that they actually tremble when Oh yea... they think about God, but they do not have true faith. Ummm... How do I explain this? Think about a dead body. Eww.. ok
So we prove we have true faith by our actions and obedience to God! Exactly! This is the only faith that pleases God.
Now you should go and check that what I am saying is true. Read all about it in James Chapter 2:14-26.
Young Christians Page Hebrews chapter 11 gives us many examples of people who lived by faith. They are called ‘witnesses’. The witnesses all made mistakes in their lives The witnesses did many things by faith. Abel offered, Enoch walked, Noah built, Abraham obeyed, Isaac blessed, Jacob worshipped, Moses refused, etc.
The Life of Faith... Believes God Trusts God Depends on God Obeys God
Hebrews chapter 12:1-2 gives us the Perfect Example. It is the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ made no mistakes in His life. He is the Originator (Author) and Perfector of faith. The Lord Jesus did everything by faith.
“
“
Wherefore seeing we also are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking off unto Jesus the author and finisher of faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. [Hebrews 12:1-2]
The Lord Jesus was God living in heaven. He was surrounded by power and mighty angels but He left it all and came to this sinful, hostile, dark world. He was born helpless and weak like any other baby. How did He do it? He did it by faith. Ps 22:9 says about Him, ‘You made me to trust while I was on my mother’s breast’. He depended on God His Father for protection and He received it. Even when Herod tried to kill Him along with all the other baby boys, God delivered Him. The Lord Jesus trusted in God. Read about it in Matt 2:13-17.
Faith always trusts in God.
When He was a 30 years old, the Lord Jesus started to preach. He was tempted by the Devil straight away. The Devil tried to make Him do wrong, giving all sorts of reasons why Jesus should believe him. But Jesus quoted the scriptures stating what God had said. He refused what Satan said and believed what God said. Read about it in Matthew 4:1-11.
Faith always believes God.
The life of the Jesus Christ was full of praying. He prayed during the night, early in the morning, on the mountain, at His baptism and in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before He died. Prayer was His habit. The Lord Jesus went to God every morning to receive strength and instruction for the day (Isaiah 50:45). Jesus did nothing by Himself. He depended on God for guidance and help.
Faith always depends on God.
All His life, Christ did exactly what the Father told Him to do. The words He spoke were the words He was told to speak. The works He did were the works He was given to do (John 8:28-29, 12:49-50). Even in the Garden of Gethsemane, in His most difficult hours, He chose to do what the Father wanted Him to do. The Lord Jesus faced the cross and said ‘Not my will but Thine be done’ (Luke 22:42). He was obedient even unto death (Philippians 2:8).
Faith always obeys God.
Three days after Jesus died, God raised Him from the dead and put Him in heaven on the throne at His own right hand. This was the joy the Lord Jesus had always looked forward to. The time when His life of faith, trust, dependence and obedience would come to an end – it would be over. He went right to the end and He finished perfectly. The Finisher – The Perfector of faith has run the race set before Him and He has received His reward.
Faith is always rewarded.
The witnesses in Hebrews 11 are like a great cloud around us, encouraging us to go on in the path of faith. Don’t get tired. Don’t give up. Don’t give in. Don’t look back. Don’t be discouraged. We have the Perfect Example in front of us. He has run the race of faith before us. The reward is with Him. Up ahead is all joy for us. We will see Him, be like Him, be with Him and the life of faith will be finished. Keep on running... Faith gives us victory over the world! (1 John 5:4)
