Sermon Mount the

TRIPLE T
1.
Matthew 5 - 7
SotM at a Glance In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is telling us what kind of people He would desire us to be.
1. We are "Christ ones" (Christians). We carry His name to the world... So represent Him properly! VIP! 2. He died painfully for all our problems and sins, so the way to honour Him is to change. 3. We have been declared as holy as Jesus is before God... So now live like it!
Chapter 5 • The Beatitudes (v1-12) This is what our heart looks like if we’re in the Kingdom of God & blessed by God. • Salt of the earth (v13) Our presence ought to bring out the best in the people around us. • Light of the World (v15-16) Tells us to powerfully show Jesus Christ to other people by our lives. • Jesus fulfilled the law (v17-18) He is the answer to the Old Testament • Righteousness exceeding the Pharisees (v19-20) The law of God is not only about actions. It is supposed to change our heart (the way we think, our thought-life and the things we want). Examples follow... • Anger, grudges, resentment (v21-26) The law stops you from murdering (action). But is also should stop these sins which happen in your heart/mind. • Lust, adultery, divorce (v27-32) The law stops you from adultery (action). But is also should stop lust, impurity etc which happen in your heart/mind. • Honesty, promises, words (v33-37) Words matter. Always keep your word... ALWAYS. Don’t speak carelessly. • Conflict, fights, violence (v38-42) True strength is in making peace over violence, argument and mistreatment. • Love your enemies (v43-48) Don’t be somebody who only loves those who love you.
Chapter 6 • Live life before God (v1-4) Ultimately, your life is only lived before an audience of one person. God. • How should I pray? (v5-13) A very helpful section, especially the Lord’s Prayer. Will make a guide on it later. • Forgive (v14-15) God has forgiven you, so you must be a forgiving person. • Fasting (v16-18) Don’t tell people about it. • Set your heart on Heaven (v19-24) Serve only one master. Lay up treasure in only one place. Seek only one destination. Look only for the approval of one person (God). • Worry, fear, anxiety (v25-34) Your faith should be applied in areas of your life that cause these problems; God gives fresh grace to face things each day; understand that your Heavenly Father cares. Chapter 7 • As you judge, you shall be judged (v1-5) Don’t be a hypocrite. God hates it. • Be wise with advice (v6) Don’t waste your breath with people who want to fight back. • Your Heavenly Father gives you all things that you need (v7-11) He knows you. He knows what you need. He has infinite grace to give it. Don’t be silly by forgetting to pray about everything you need! • It’s about others (v12) Other people come first for the Christian, just like they did for Jesus. • The narrow gate (v13-14) What Jesus is describing is a “narrow way” - meaning there are not many who prove their entrance into the Kingdom of God by doing these things. It’s a priceless blessing to know the truth so that we can be sure we are one of the few. • By their fruits (v15-20) Do you listen to somebody’s teaching and advice? Or is somebody representing themselves as a teacher of the Bible or a preacher? Don’t be fooled too easily. Always look at their life and make sure they are proving their suitability to do these things. • I never knew you (v21-23) Ahhhhhhh! :( Actually, this follows the false prophets thing because there are so many of them who will claim to have done the mirales etc... And they will be among the rejected. • Build your house on the rock (v24-27) The rock is the word of God. Jesus is saying, build your life on these things He is saying (and all His words) and your foundation will be perfect.
