Ichiro Suzuki Makes History

Seattle Mariners’ Ichiro Suzuki made baseball history twice in September. He reached 2,000 hits in his 1,402nd major league1 game, second-fastest only to Al Simmons. Suzuki set another record just a week later by making his 200th safe hit for the ninth season in a row. This beats the previous2 record, which had been held by Willie Keeler since 1901. For both record-breaking3 hits, fans stood up and cheered. Even at thirty-five years of age, Suzuki shows no sign of slowing down his success. Baseball fans and players alike4 expect to see Ichiro Suzuki set new batting records for years to come.

VirtualTourist.com, a travel Web site, has published2 a list of the world’s ten most unusual foods, and Taiwan’s pig’s blood cake took first place. The list was compiled3 from information given by the Web site’s members and editors. Other foods to make the list were live octopus,4 which is eaten in South Korea, and smelly durian5 fruit. Insects were also on the menu. Cooked or raw Ugandan grasshoppers6 and high-protein Australian grubs7 may make a little pig’s blood seem normal. This list of food clearly shows that taste varies greatly around the world.

Men Lie More

A poll1 carried out by Fox Entertainment found that men lie almost twice as much as women. Men were more likely to lie about drinking, while women admitted2 more often to lying about shopping. The number one lie for both men and women was, “Nothing’s wrong; I’m fine.” Of course, this poll assumes3 that people always tell the truth about how much they lie.

Udaipur, India

What a surprise! It wasn’t even on the list last year, but this city has so much to offer. Udaipur is known as the “Venice of the East.” Sitting in the desert are lakes surrounded by graceful palaces. One, the pure1 white Lake Palace, rises proudly out of 05

the center of a lake. The water reflectsu the buildings’ walls and makes the whole city seem magical. Udaipur remains2 unspoiled3 by tourism.4 In town, you will discover beautiful traditional5 houses and temples. The peaceful countryside is also worth a visit. The romantic atmosphereu in Udaipur attracts both travelers and lovers. Many of

10

the palaces have been turned into expensive hotels. Not surprisingly, Udaipur is now a favorite wedding and honeymoon destination. It has also quickly become a Hollywood favorite for filming Indian scenes. As this list shows, people are turning away from many of the classic big cities. Now they are looking
