Our customers’ need and our desire to find creative ways to fulfill them have lead us to be trend setters both in terms of our store product and service offerings. Of course the cornerstone of any paint store is selling the best paint. Benjamin Moore has been the anchor of our product offering since day one. Currently our shop has explored a lot of up-cycled and repurposed furniture, but we don’t stop there. By offering lots of expert advice and even in-shop DIY classes, we continue to ensure that our customers are able to fulfill their design dreams. Our Cottage Paint Classes have been exceptionally well received as we teach participants how to revive and repurpose old furniture with clay based paints that are simple and fun to use.
Everyone on staff at Tripp’s has 10 to 25 years of colour, technical and practical experience. Our team is always looking for ways to solve customers’ design challenges. The team has a variety of specialty knowledge, but we have been together long enough to share that knowledge between us. Almost everything you need to know About contAiners… The majority of steel containers sold, rented and modified by Secure Store are referred to as dry cargo containers. This is meant to indicate the types of items that should be placed in the containers when they are being shipped across seas or on rail. The two primary sizes for steel storage containers are 20’ and 40’ but are also available in 45’ and 53’ lengths. Due to our full customizations of shipping containers, Secure Store can offer it’s clients ANY SIZE steel shipping container from 8’ to 53’. Great for someone who has limitations in the area they can place their container. Special high cube containers are also available at Secure Store and are the same length but 1 foot higher (9’6”) than the standard 8 foot 6 inch high containers. Clients that purchase containers and are considering placing oil, gas, medical waste, chemicals of other items not considered as dry cargo such as lawn mowers, engines, generators etc. run the risk of these items damaging or contaminating so that it cannot be used for other purposes. Once a container has been contaminated, it is VERY expensive to refurbish it. If you are storing furniture or other fine valuables in container, you 14 H O M E 2 0 1 7

a client recently asked me “What does exclusive listing mean?” Here’s what I told him… Back in ancient times, real estate was a disorganized collection of separate real estate brokerages and offices which were contracted by individual property owners to sell their properties. A buyer had the cumbersome task to find the property- usually by a lawn sign or a newspaper ad- then contact that listing agent to view it and could place an offer through that company or agent only. Buyers did not see all the homes on the market. They were also at the mercy of the listing agent when it came to informed decision making and negotiation. Enter MLS. In 1970, everything changed. All listings were entered into a central data management system, posted in books and daily Hot Sheets which were available to all registered realtors who in turn could show and sell any MLS listing. There was co-operation between brokerages and buyers
could work with one agent and look at multiple homes. That further improved in 1997 when Buyer Brokerage came into effect which gave buyers representation and insight into pricing and negotiations. Fast forward to 2017 where buyers can access every MLS listing, mapping, zoning, schooling, statistical and demographical info within seconds. At a time when organized Real Estate is moving away from Multiple Representation - whereby one agent represents both seller and buyer- why is The Exclusive Listing rearing its ancient mottled head? Why in the world would any serious seller settle for a lawn sign and maybe an ad or a posting on the agent’s web site? Would he not want to cast a great big net to capture every possible buyer by using MLS?

Coby Windows and Doors first started in Coboconk, Ontario in 1997 by Keith Penna as an alternative to the old way of doing doors and windows. WHAT IS GOING ON NOW IN REALESTATE? Today’s market is very confusing, not only for the public, but also for the Real Estate Professional. I have been a full time real estate agent for 38 years and have lived and survived through four of these up and down turns. Never have I seen the prices climb as dramatically as they did earlier this year. Now that the market has somewhat levelled, trying to adjust the listing price of a home to a more realistic figure has been difficult and hard to explain to the public, who would really like their home to sell for the high prices that were happening in the late winter/early spring of 2017. It is important to remember that if you are selling high, you are also buying high. Sale prices are still strong, with many homes selling over the million dollar mark, but they have to be pristine and have that “wow” factor. There are some simple and inexpensive things you can do as a seller that will ensure that your home stands out to potential buyers. A coat of paint goes a long way to cover up scratches and choosing light, neutral colours helps to brighten up the rooms. Outdated cabinetry can also be updated easily with paint and new hardware. If you have carpet, have it cleaned. Remember the outside of your

home too, as that is the first thing people see when they arrive. It is important to have the lawn cut and the gardens in good condition. Nothing looks nicer than a freshly topped driveway and a freshly stained or power washed deck. And remember, buyers find odors particularly
off-putting so do not allow any smoking in your home, dry off wet pets and clean the kitty litter daily; there is nothing worse than cat odor. These are all things that don’t cost a lot but will show you a better return on your investment not to mention help to sell your property more quickly.
