How/when did you start your business? Am Roofing was founded by Harold Pierce in 1956. Harold’s grandson Roger Haviland took over the family-owned and operated company and expanded the business in the mid 1990’s. In 2001 I (Tim Demers) started working for Roger as a roofer in our Fergus office and within a few years started running a few roofing crews and eventually became the production manager for the Fergus Office. At this time Roger expanded into Owen Sound and opened up a second location there. In 2010, I became partner and owner/operator of our third location in Collingwood. With the growing success of our company we have since opened up locations in London, Guelph and Gravenhurst and also opened a flat roofing and sheet metal division. People are surprised to know: We are family owned and operated, and we do not franchise our companies. We have been in business since 1956. Describe your shop’s vibe: Very busy but organized work environment. From our office staff to our installers we have the best people in the business and I am proud to be able to say that. What’s the most unique product in your shop? Our line of INSPIRE composite Slates and shake is the most unique product we carry. It looks like real slate and has an excellent warranty.

What inspired you to open? The lack of professionalism in the roofing business opened my eyes when I started roofing almost 15 years ago. I wanted to create and be part of something that I and the team of people around me could be proud of. Integrity, honesty and professionalism is what I wanted for the roofing industry. Where do you source your products? We source only the best products that stand the test of time. We have been around long enough to know what products will last and which ones will not. We use nothing but the best which will result in a happy customer with a great warranty that AM Roofing and manufacturer can stand behind. What’s your business philosophy? Integrity, honesty and professionalism are the reasons we are successful in this business and we engrain that into our entire company. What’s your favourite neighbourhood to shop in? I personally love the downtown strip. I enjoy finding new shops and exploring new things. But the Village at the mountain is also a great place. It’s nice to see Collingwood growing and I love to support the local businesses as they have supported us. What’s the secret to your success? Treat people as you want to be treated and giving back to the community is a big part for us as we like to support people and organizations in need. I think it’s simple but so very important. Who is your target clientele? Anyone in need of our services such as roofing: sloped and flat, insulation, eavestrough, soffit, fascia. We specialize in large or small projects. We have a great team and a solution to any roofing need or problem and we do it in a professional and courteous manner.

When did you start your business? Georgian Flooring Centre opened in 1993. In 2007, we moved to our current location and expanded to become Georgian Design Centre offering a wider variety of products. What Inspired you to open? We became a full-service Design Centre after we went through our own kitchen remodel and soon realized as a consumer that there was a demand for a “one-stop” shop locally operated to avoid any type back and fourth to the city. What is your target clientele? Mr. and Mrs. Consumers looking for a small piece of flooring to builders, contractors and homeowners who have an electrician on-site and realize they are short lighting and need it the same day, to someone looking for carpet remnants for a small room. Everyone is made to feel welcome regardless of the size of the project.

What’s the most unique product in your shop? Georgian Design Centre has working toilets, taps, rainheads on display so you can see it, try it and feel it.

stablished in 2008, Mercer Equipment Inc. launched as a commercial dealer serving the golf and landscape industries. Specializing in golf equipment, Mercer Equipment offers mobile and in-shop repairs. Owner Jamie Mercer began working as an on-site golf course mechanic in 1999 and discovered there was a shortage of good golf course mechanics. He decided to see if there was a market for a travelling golf course mechanic and, within a week, he was booked solid. We have always seen the opportunity for the only Waterfront Restaurant in the entire area. We decided to include it in the development of our Phase 3 expansion at Living Water Resort & Spa. May 2016 Lakeside Seafood and Grill launched It features extensive lunch and dinner selections, as well as some indulgent culinary experiences for those requesting a private event. ello, my name is John Koussiouris and I want to tell you something important. You see, a long time ago when I left my simple village, my father told me the following: “Son, always remember: The more you give in life the more you will receive.” Of course, in the beginning I did not understand. How can I give more when I had nothing? I certainly had no money but plenty of challenges with being an immigrant. Still his words stayed with me. Especially at night, after each hard but honest day’s work. Despite my meager earnings there was something encouraging about those words. Before long, I also met my lovely wife, Agnes. Now with even more resolute, together we dreamed to make a home in this country. Undeterred by many trials, I gave my all to build that life and this restaurant business with her. And lo and behold, slowly I began to see that we received more than we could have asked for. Though it was not for my cooking in the back but for her love of people, in the front. Indeed, while I fretted about running the kitchen, she was the one keeping it all together by her gentle “Hellos’ and heartfelt “Thank yous” out on the front. Now, many years later we have a beautiful family, more grandkids than I can soon keep up with, and still this Steakhouse since 1973. Why have we

What inspired you to explore your ﬁeld? Just as a butterfly renews itself and transform from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly, we are all beautiful in our own individual way, sometimes we just need some help transforming and renewing ourselves. Life can be very busy and we all deserve to take a little time for us on a regular basis. We get to help both men and women come in with the stresses of their day or week and leave feeling refreshed and renewed. What’s the secret to your success? It is so important to have passion for what you do. We truly enjoy taking care of all your wellness and beauty needs. In order to best do this, it is also important to always be learning and growing not just as a business but as an individual as well.

How/when did you start your business? We started as a home based spa in 2007 and with the help of a happy repeat clientele and word of mouth we have grown to our newest location. Just over a year ago we moved into an older but modernized house that has been converted to all spa and have 3 fully certified aestheticians who are ready to pamper and renew you.

What is your business philosophy? “We take pride in differentiating ourselves through style, design and the visual experience. We all have a unique sense of style and selfexpression.” What are people surprised to know about archer’s eyewear? “Doug’s Tom Foolery is a plastic, hyper- allergenic collection that I design with a German manufacturer and are one of a kind pieces. Colour palates consist of vibrant multicoloured stripes and solid colours in glossy or matte finishes. I also work closely with Tom Davies, a highly regarded Optician and Frame Manufacturer in England. Together we can curate a BESPOKE, customtailored, hand-made piece of eyewear using cotton-based plastics or pure titanium. After uploading a client facial

photo into the BESPOKE software program frame creations can be superimposed onto the photo. The best part is that the client contributes to the design and modifications of their personalized frame.” Describe the vibe in your shop “We are a warm, approachable, fun, experienced group of individuals influenced by highly fashionable European trends. Educating the consumer and guiding them through the process of selecting eyewear in a non-clinical, no pressure environment allows my team to earn the client’s trust. The tall walls and open ceiling offer a gallery feel and the frames are arranged in collections that tell a story about each designer.” What is the secret to your success? “The business plan I wrote took me a year to finalize. It was thorough and accurate. It contained realistic, attainable business goals and personal goals because I believe that the two of them go hand in hand. One of my personal goals was to become an Instructor in the Opticianry Program. Another personal goal was to be voted Optician of the Year in Ontario by my peers. I was successful achieving both which actually helped me become better associated with very influential people in the Optical Industry. These people helped me achieve some of my business goals. Snoring is caused by the uvula vibrating and being stretched. The laser targets the uvula and causes the overstretched, broken down collagen in its tissues to reform through neocollagenesis. As a result the tissue shrinks back, leaving more room to breathe. It’s the only safe and non-surgical procedure. Q&A Where did you receive training? Training came mostly from studying with other master photographers throughout Canada and the US. But training never stops, especially in this digital age. Attending workshops, seminars and networking with photographers is a continuous endeavour. I’ve been honoured to earn the Master of Photographic Arts award from the Professional Photographers of Canada, and just recently the Master Photographer in Fine Art designation from Master Photographers International. What’s the one service or product people should try before leaving your business? I would have to say to examine some of the new papers and canvas that we’re printing on. They are extraordinary, both to the touch as well as visually. They’re also archival and the resulting prints can last well over 100 years. We do all our printing in-house, from wallets to wall size. This way we can control the quality from start to finish.

he past year was an exciting one in which I achieved a long time personal goal. Last fall I was nominated for and ultimately awarded the prestigious “Photographer of the Year” in the Nature photography category of the International Image Competition organized by Master Photographers International out of Calgary, AB. The competition is open to member photographers around the world and judged by Master Photographers from Canada, the US, the UK and Australia. I was not only honoured, but also humbled, as the entries in this category were all outstanding. This year we are seeing some exciting changes and new products as we continue to grow, explore and bring the best possible portrait experience to our clients.
