The Light

We often think of light as one of the most important aspects of life. We need light to be able to see. However, light is nothing without shadows. The light is what helps us to understand the world we live in. Shadows shape the light—just as fear shapes our faith—the same way that darkness magnifies the light.
You will not always go through life with the lights on. There will be times that you may take a walk down the wrong path or make a wrong turn that leads you down the road of darkness. When this happens in life and we let the darkness get the best of us, the darkness then turns into fear. Just as Yoda tells us in Star Wars, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”
Our fears and attitude can impact those around us just as much as it can impact us. Darkness can not drive out darkness, only the light can keep the darkness away. We must learn how to let the light into the darkest moments of our life. We never know who may be watching us. If someone can see the light still shining in you even in your darkest moments, you may just spark a light in someone else. This might give them the hope that they need to be able to let the light shine in on them too.
When all of the lights go out and darkness surrounds you, let your faith be the light that shines in to guide the way. Just as when nighttime comes and the whole world is dark, the darkness cannot cover up the moon and the brightest stars—they are still giving off a beam of light. This reminds us that no matter how dark things seem around you, you must shine as bright as you can so that your light will reflect onto others—just as the moon and the stars shine upon one another.
In order for our light to illuminate onto others, we must first find the light within ourselves. There comes a point in your life when you find that inner light inside of you. That is when you discover who you truly are. Light is the symbol of truth, because you can never truly see all that you need to
in the dark. Similar to a fresh rain on a sunny day, the sun shines through a rainbow to show us that there are always brighter days ahead.
When we take a candle that is lit and light another candle, it loses nothing—the same goes for us. When we help light the way for someone, we lose nothing and only become stronger, shining brighter and brighter. You just have to remember that the light has always been there. It flows through you and it will guide you. Just as the Bible tells us in Psalms 36:9, “For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.”
