How To Be Happy In A Tough Time! irst, you have to think positive! I remember when my mom told me that we were going to put my dog to sleep, and I had a tough time getting through it. After a few weeks, I finally got through it by thinking positive. How I did it was I knew that he would not hurt anymore and he would be much happier. So, after that day, I always thought to never think about how bad it is going to be; think about how good it will be. Next, you have to be nice to others. If you are not nice to others, then they might not be nice to you. You don’t know if they have to deal with the same thing as you. So be nice to others because they might know how you feel. Then, you take a deep breath. If you take a deep breath, then you will calm down. You don’t want to freak out or they might think that you don’t care. Last, you’ve got to think about something else. If you think

about something else, then you will forget about it and feel better. So, if you ever are feeling sad, try some of these things and it might help you. Inspire Greatness

things.” –Ronald Reagan Several years ago, the Lord it placed on my heart
to begin to write about my pain and life situations. I didn’t know that my obedience to His prompting would eventually touch people that I will never meet and also encourage others to write as well. I remember the first time that I was published in this magazine. I was so excited because I didn’t believe that I was good enough to be published or that I had something to say that others would want to read, for that matter. Talk about a confidence booster! My confidence grew with each publishing! This excitement and joy started to overflow in my heart. I didn’t want to keep the excitement to myself. I wanted others to experience this joy! I would start telling people that they had a story to share, too, and it didn’t matter if they didn’t think of themselves as a writer; just start with a blank page! I have had the privilege of encouraging my family members, my principal, my church friends, and students at my school to begin to write. Who knows—one day, these small publications may inspire us to write books! Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” I have started an “Author Wall” at Black Fox Elementary School to inspire rising authors. The wall is growing by leaps and bounds. I have students fixing to be published all the way into the month of April. I would also like to mention that our students have been the youngest published authors so far! Let me tell

When students are published in GoodNews Magazine, I frame their article and put their name under it for everyone who walks down our hallway to read and be inspired and encouraged by. My favorite part about the “Author Wall” is seeing the child’s face when they realize their article is hanging up in the hallway and when I give them a box of magazines to share with their friends and family! My challenge to you today is to reread Ronald Reagan’s quote at the beginning of this article and think to yourself, “Who are the people in my life that I can inspire to greatness?”

During the past year, Don Ledford Chevrolet, Buick, GMC & Cadillac at 4595 North Lee Highway, Cleveland, has had another great year. Back in 2017, the dealership was one of very few businesses in East Tennessee and North Georgia nominated for the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. Don Ledford in Cleveland has 45 full- and part-time employees—and is growing. “We are so proud to be able to provide good jobs to good people from this area,” Melton said. “I am proud of the effort our team puts forth and in the positive satisfaction ratings from our customers. Making our customers feel comfortable and at home is important at Don Ledford.” To back those efforts up, and to work toward continuous improvement, the dealership has a concierge to assist customers with everything they may need help with during their visits to the dealership. Plus, the dealership has started a “Ladies Day” in service, offering different treats for the ladies from time to time, like free mani-pedis, roses, car care clinics, etc., in addition to service specials. It’s been a big hit! When Melton designed the new dealership, a top priority was a new customer hospitality area. This part of the dealership is spacious and has comfortable seating, large flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and refreshments, and a separate children’s playroom in an area that is in full view of, but isolated from, the adults.

Don Ledford also added a new service drive-in reception area and two indoor delivery areas. When
customers must leave their vehicle for warranty work, Don Ledford provides free loaner vehicles. Melton said the dealership now boasts one of the largest inventories of GM products in the region, giving customers the selection they want. “We’re very proud of our team training programs,” Melton said. “We have invested in a community/ conference/training room, and we use it regularly.” The company’s “Heart of Service” curriculum has been a key to success. This training instills a set of principles, which empowers employees to deliver their services with a common set of core values. “Our employees come to work every day to serve God, family, employees, customers, and community,” Melton said. “It is what sets us apart from other businesses. We’ve always had a AAA Better Business Bureau rating, but now having been honored with the BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Excellence, well, it’s just validation to all of us that we have been on the right track, and we certainly aren’t going to change; we’re only going to try and improve.”
Giving Back to Cleveland & Bradley County
A business won’t be successful if it doesn’t give back time and money to the community that supports it. This past year, the dealership has worked hard to do that. Here are just a few of the opportunities Don Ledford in Cleveland has been able to participate in to enable the dealership to give back to their friends, neighbors, and customers: • The dealership sponsored a “Ride & Drive” event with Parkview Elementary School, where they donated $20 per test drive up to a maximum of 500 test drives, or
a total of $10,000. The school came through! Thanks to all of the parents, faculty, friends, and all other relatives who helped out, $10,000 was raised. It was awesome! • Chevrolet donated $5 for every test drive the employees and customers took in October to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Walk Program in our “I Drive For” Campaign. (Chevy’s national goal was $500,000.) • The dealership worked with Outlaw Rodeo Co. for the third year in a row to bring back a rodeo to the area by sponsoring the Memorial Day Weekend event at the Tri-State Exposition Center’s Bess Neil Arena. • The dealership also once again was involved with Lee University in the 2019 Cleveland Great Strides Walk for cystic fibrosis. • The dealership also donated a new vehicle for one Bradley County School Teacher of the Year and one City of Cleveland School Teacher of the Year to drive for the next 12 months. Your children will learn humility from your example. • Show affection. Touch is very important to children. Hugs, kisses, and “I love you’s” give your children a sense of security. • Praise your children when you catch them doing good. Spotlighting good behavior encourages more of

stumbled upon this recipe right after Christmastime, desperately needing something fresh after ALL the holiday cookies. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It was easy to make and had ingredients you can use for all sorts of things—so no waste! It took about 10 minutes to prep and is great to eat by itself for a light lunch, paired with grilled chicken, steak, or pita bread and hummus!
Ingredients • 1 can rinsed and drained chickpeas • 1 diced large cucumber • 1c quartered cherry tomatoes • 1/4c finely diced red onion • 2T chopped fresh parsley • Juice from half a lemon • Swirl of EVOO • Seasoning salt & pepper • *Optional mix-ins—feta cheese, shredded carrots, olives, spinach, etc.!
Directions Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Best served immediately at room temperature.

Mark and Dan were very close growing up and at early ages, enjoyed time with dad fishing or in the woods on a hunting adventure. When Worry Comes Knocking

have a worry problem. I’m sad to admit it, but it’s true. It’s better than it was, but it still creeps up on me every now and then. The Lord has taught me a lot along the
way, both in what to do and what not to do. Here’s what not to do: wallow in it! You know the
feeling? The one that seemingly can’t be shaken? We (by we, I mean me) take it to bed; therefore, we wake up with it. We allow it to consume us. It takes up much brain space, not to mention the heaviness it brings to our heart. Wallow has two meanings. One is the meaning of indulgence, and the other is an “area of mud or shallow water where mammals go to wallow, typically developing into a depression in the ground over long use” (dictionary.com). Pretty fitting, isn’t it? Worry is a lot like muddy, shallow water. It keeps us from being clear-minded and from going deeper in our walk with the Lord. The longer we let it stick around, the further into the pit we go. It’s time for us (me) to dig deeper into God’s word and trust His heart. He has been far too good to do anything less. Here’s what to do: wallow in Him! Psalm 37 is a great read when worry nips at us. I particularly love verse 5: “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass.” The word commit in the original language is gaw-lal: it means “to roll: commit, remove, run down, seek occasion, trust, WALLOW” (Strong’s Concordance). When we commit our worries to Him, we our worries, we are wallowing (this is where the definition of indulgence comes in) in the One who has the power to do more than change the circumstances that are causing us grief: He has the power to change us. He can take an anxious heart and turn it into a heart that trusts. Scripture tells us that “God IS love” (I John 4:16). Love is not just one part of His character: it’s His very essence. If that’s true, and it is, why should we (I mean me) allow doubt and worry to inhabit where trust wants to dwell? Matthew 10:30 says that He knows the number of hairs on

our head. If He’s aware of such a miniscule fact, is there any part of our lives He wouldn’t take an interest in? He knows us intimately and cares for us immeasurably. He’s aware of those things that want to smother out His presence. He has given us His all in Jesus; He will surely not withhold Himself during a time of worry. We can trust Him with the ginormous worries as well as those tiny daily ones that wear us down. The next time worry comes knocking, ask Jesus to open the door while you sit back and rest in Him.
