Sharks Opens At AMNH People have been intrigued by sharks for as long as we have been exploring the oceans. Fixed in the public imagination as toothy, fearsome predators, sharks are far more fascinating, and more complex, than their depiction in popular culture. The American Museum of Natural History’s new exhibition Sharks, brings to life the incredible diversity of sharks with dozens of life-sized models, ranging from 33 feet to 5 inches long, and offers visitors a unique look at prehistoric and modern species, their habitats and hunting styles, and the conservation threats these spectacular animals face today. Museum admission is free to all New York City school and camp groups. New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut

BROADWAY’S BACK!!! The “Welcome back to BROADWAY!” announcement elicits loud, enthusiastic cheers from psyched-up fans, as do the sassy sextet playing the wives of Henry VIII as they strut onstage in the irreverent girl-power pop musical “Six.” Like a Spice Girls concert, this “histo-remix” pulls out all the techno shots, turning Henry’s six wives’ tales of woe into a pop music competition. BOUNTIFUL GOURMET: Fogo de Chão Start with the Market Bar...to call it a salad
I now know what the last days of Rome were like before the fall...food of every kind in unlimited quantities. The opening of Fogo de Chão in Huntington was a true happening...There are nearly 50 Fogos across the United States, but this was the second on Long Island for this Brazilian Steakhouse chain. Fogo has built a stunning restaurant at Walt Whitman Mall. The décor is exquisite, with an emphasis on Brazilian culture. Visually, it is really a big notch above area steakhouses. For those who haven’t been to a Brazilian or Portuguese steakhouse, it means unlimited food. The Churrasco is beautiful racks of meats, brought to your table and carved in front of you by the server.
spread of all kinds of salads, cold smoked salmon, black pepper candied bacon, and a great Charcuterie featuring imported Prosciutto, Calabrese Salami, Parma Ham, Toscana Salami plus rich assortments of cheeses including blue cheese, smoked provolone, the list just goes on. Although this is part of the larger meal and included, an unbelievable bargain is the Market Table at lunchtime, Monday thru Friday, only $15! If you go full tilt boogie, you’ll want to have the Churrasco, top quality grilled meats. The assortment is endless, but includes beef ribs, bacon wrapped steak, Top Sirloin, Filet Mignon, and our favorite, which just oozed with juice, the Ribeye; $40.95 for lunch, $61.95 at dinner. For those who haven’t been to a Brazilian steakhouse, you are given two chips on your table, one red, one green. When the green is displayed, servers come by with the meats and carve it right in front of you. You can indicate you want to take a break or to stop by displaying the red chip.
by Rich Branciforte asked how everything is and if you want more. It’s almost impossible after eating this feast to have dessert, but for the sake of our readers, we struggled and were triumphant. We vanquished a chunk of delicious strawberry cheese cake and a molten lava cake with ice cream.
Fogo de Chão is not the place you would go and great service, it is perfect for a night out or a special night like an anniversary or birthday. Fogo de Chão is located at 160 Walt Whitman Road in Huntington. Phone 631-382-6161. It is an experience you don’t want to miss and you will want to spread the word to friends and family. Just make sure you come hungry.

SPORTS BEAT The New York Mets worked fast and furious before the MLB lockout got underway to get their house in order for when the upcoming season gets underway. Team owner Steve Cohen and club president Sandy Alderson hired former Angels general manager Billy Eppler to be their GM. After all the jokes about how no big name wanted to come to Flushing, it appears Cohen and Alderson made a solid selection. The new triumvirate then made a very bold move in signing free agent ace pitcher Max Scherzer. Steve Cohen has always said he doesn’t want people learning on his dime, so it wasn’t a shock he hired the very experienced Buck Showalter to manage his team. I am surprised however he did not interview former Cardinals manager Mike Schildt whose team always seemed to make the playoffs, or Walt Weiss, the former Rockies manager who won a World Series ring in 2021 as the Braves bench coach. Weiss grew up in Rockland County, so he is well-versed with the new York market. The Yankees were relatively quiet this past fall aside from hiring recently deposed Mets manager Luis Rojas to be their third base coach. Yankees management can take pride in the fact they were able to bring back the Pinstripe Bowl after missing 2020 because of the pandemic. While other sporting events were being postponed because of the resurgence of COVID-19 via the omicron variant, including Boston’s Fenway Bowl and San Diego’s Holiday Bowl, the Pinstripe Bowl. Despite Omicron, 30,000 spectators watched Maryland, behind QB Taulia Tagovailoa (brother of Miami Dolphins QB Tua), destroy Virginia Teach, 54-10. Burleson is not only on the “NFL Today,” but he also co-hosts “CBS Mornings” and a sports show on Nickelodeon called naturally, “NFL Slimetime.” Burleson chuckled when I called him “Mr. Viacom,” and then asked him when he was going to become a correspondent on “60 Minutes.” I asked Burleson if his television success has overshadowed his NFL have a feeling I have changed that narrative,” he replied with somewhat mixed emotions. “Sunday Night Football” executive producer Fred Gaudelli was another 2021 inductee. ICON RONNIE SPECTOR PASSES
Ronnie Spector, who passed away at 78, had a raw, fresh, and full of life sound and style that skipped merrily past time and era. It jumped from her work on “Be My Baby” and a series of follow-up smashes in the early 60s with the family Ronettes, to her solo career and her reprise in 1987 with Eddie Money in “Take Me Home Tonight” (Just Like Ronnie Said). Her joyful vocals scaled the heavily produced P-Spectored “wall of sound” and gave us a sense of abandon yet tension that made every listen to a Ronnie song, a newly-minted experience. While her personal life had its challenges, she always seemed to overcome them, and be a source of and inspiration. She shared with us a sense of hope, because the “Best Part of Breaking Up Is When You’re Making Up.” Her notes of optimism and enthusiasm will never be stilled. We will always be able to hear her music,...“the sounds of the city...disappear.” -Philip Rosenfelt (Phil was the 2nd Music Editor of Good Times Magazine)

TYLER MITCHELL DANCING SHADOWS CD Tyler Mitchell and Marshall Allen go way back — and way out. Having worked together in the Sun Ra Arkestra in the mid 1980s, the two resumed their partnership again over the past decade, with Mitchell rejoining the Arkestra after exploring other paths. That group carries on the Sun Ra name today under the direction of Allen, now 97, yet what they have in common goes far beyond the music of one man. Inspired by their experiences with both free and arranged jazz, and harvesting a new album in the process, Dancing Shadows. Joining Mitchell and Allen on the new Mahakala Music release are Chris Hemmingway (tenor sax), Nicoletta Manzini (alto sax), Wayne Smith (drums) and Elson Nascimento (percussion), and the sextet can deliver both horn a vision that Mitchell has had for years The set is rounded out with a Thelonious Monk tune, “Skippy,” two by the alto player Manzini and three by Mitchell himself. His contributions spring directly from his impressions of his fellow players. “Nico” and “Nico Revisited” refer to Manzini’s nickname. bop and pure sonic texture. Happy New Year to all the Good Times readers out there! Hope you’ve been enjoying time with your loved ones and are looking forward to what the new year has to bring. New York City already has a ton of great shows planned and I would love for you to get to experience them in all their glory. First up we have Two Friends at Terminal 5 on Jan 26. The reason I really love these guys is that they are all over the place; in a good way. They tend to focus on custom edits of electronic songs with acapellas laid on top of them. Doing this style allows a lot of people who may not be as familiar with the genre to hear lyrics they know and like with a unique instrumental behind it. And the actual electronic songs themselves range from house to dubstep to trance. It’s a unique project to witness that show talking about it to everyone you know. Next up we have some house music gods making their way to Brooklyn at the Avant Gardner on Jan 29. I’m talking about the Tchami and AC Slater tour, Confessions vs. Night Bass. These two are at the top of their class, bringing driving house rhythms and nonstop dancing all night. Although slightly different in their approach, their music creates the same type of energy and vibe throughout and is guaranteed to get you in the mood for a good night out on town. They’ll be joined by Habstrakt, Marten Horger, and Capozzi b2b Nostalgix. Tickets for this will go quickly so grab them before they’re gone. Last but not least, we have some funk to hit that sweet ass. The Floozies will be making a stop with Daily Bread at the Brooklyn Bowl on Feb 11 to bring their unique sounds to the stage. The Floozies have been a top artist for me for a while as they are masters with the vocoder and bring those groovy tunes. It’s like the 70s meets modern day electronic music. Picture the best version of that and you have yourself the Floozies. Their guitar riffs often mix with heavy bass to give off just the right type of energy for the night. I’ll be

checking them out, so shouldn’t you too? gles out that I’ve been combing through recently and I think you all will appreciate them. First up is “Backstage” by the man himself Carbin. This is one of those bass tracks that someone like Liquid Stranger would drop during his sets and you would just hear the entire crowd go “ooo” since the bass is so low and heavy. A true bass banger, this song makes you wonder how producers can even think of something so grimy and are able to enact it and put it on paper. Give this one a listen, folks. I’m sure a lot of you in here already know Subtronics… but if you don’t, I hope his latest release will turn you into a fan of his. “Spacetime (feat. Nevve)” has the classic Subtronics sound but with a little bit of a beauty it all together. The vocals really put the listener into a dreamlike state, adding intensity and emotion as the song builds. And just when you think it will stay like that, the synths start to come in and that’s when you know things are about to change. High energy and wonky tones plow through your being; pure bliss if I do say so myself. This last one is a deep bass track with UK style rap overlaid on top of it. It just makes you want

to groove and vibe with the beat and the way the vocals come in and just hit makes this track give a a mix of new style bass music with old school UK dubstep vibes. “Soldier (Hypho Remix)” by Truth and T-Man is a special something that has given me something that I was it was. Thanks for stopping in this time around everyone! Hope you’ve enjoyed your time here and remember to keep raging my friends. Feel free to reach out at richiegtechno@gmail.com.

MIKE NESMITH As the New Year begins, the RIPs continue to accumulate for the generation that was raised on rock and roll. One that seems to have ben overlooked is Mike Nesmith, who was a member of the ‘made for tv’ band, The Monkees. The entire concept of the ‘band’ was revolutionary; it was a group created to be the base for a weekly tv series (The Partridge Family eventually followed suit, and gave the world David Cassidy as a legit Top 40 pop star.) The Monkees, in addition to being a hit tv series, became a Top 40 hit making mainstay, and set into motion an Andy Warhol style vision of ‘rock stars’, as well as the originally part of the package, came to understand the logistics of this concept, and after “The Monkees” was over, he was an early presenter of late night televised ‘music videos’ packaged as a tv show, broadcast in the overnight a.m. hours, well before cable tv became a thing.
CLASSIC ROCK JETHRO TULL NEW STUDIO ALBUM British Progressive Rock luminaries Jehtro Tull announced details for the over 18 years! Originally making headlines in March of this year, the band’s newest offering, titled ‘The Zealot Gene’, will see a January 28th, release on Inside Out Mu-
single from the album, titled “Shoshana Sleeping”, accompanied by a stunning visual created by Thomas Hicks. Watch it now here: https://youtube/uPTeqsBd1Ik A record that began to take shape as early as 2017, ‘The Zealot Gene’, in many ways, seeks to defy convention during a time when the business of being a touring and recording artist has never faced more uncertainties. Tull bandleader Ian Anderson holds no reservations about the role for which the mythos and themes of Biblical storytelling played in the lyrical content of the new album.
THE OFFICIAL ASIA LIVE BOOTLEGS Multi-platinum selling English supergroup ASIA released its most ambitious collection Bootlegs Volume 1. Issued through BMG Records on December 3rd., the expansive set original line-up captured between 1982 and 2010. There is also be a digital album (also featuring a selection of 24 tracks taken from the full boxset. Live Bootlegs Volume 1 box set is helping to kick off a period of celebration for ASIA fans worldwide. “ASIA has always been a powerful live entity, and these recordings prove that,” says founding member and drummer Carl Palmer. “Rather than hear these shows with inferior pirate recordings, now the fans can enjoy them with good quality audio. It represents the full spectrum of our live history as a band.”
NEW PIXIES LIVE IN BRIXTON When Pixies halted an eleven-year hiatus by announcing a series of shows at the iconic Brixton Academy in 2004, excitement reached a fever pitch. Four nights soon sold out, each of which would be packed with longstanding fans and newcomers alike. Being the band they are, Pixies didn’t
Eventually, cable tv did become a thing, introducing many more channel options and creating a need for more programming; ultimately, Nesmith’s early voyage into the music video world led to the formulation of the most powerful force to hit the pop music world since the transistor radio; MTV. This new station played whatever available music videos there were, over and over, and caught the attention of the teen viewer, leading bands like Loverboy, that were going nowhere, to the top of the Billboard sales chart. Nesmith was the foster father of this world changing concept and that is what he should be remembered for.

restrained fashion by playing the Neil Young rarity ‘Winterlong’ before tearing deep into their discography. Over the course of the four nights, they played almost all of the big hitters and fan favorites from the landmark albums ‘Doolittle’ and ‘Surfer Rosa’; key songs and obscurities from the rest of their catalogue; plus further covers in the shape of Peter Ivers’ ‘In head’) and The Jesus and Mary Chain’s ‘Head On.’ And remarkably, each of the four setlists was radically different. Now recordings of the four shows will be released on January 28th. Newly mastered by Phil Kinrade at Alchemy Mastering at AIR, Live In Brixton, will be released on both vinyl and CD formats, each of which consists of eight discs. The vinyl box set is spread across eight discs of heavyweight 180 gram vinyl, with each show split between two translucent coloured LPs: June 2nd is red, June 3rd is orange, June 5th is green, and June 6th is blue. It is housed within a beautifully crafted deluxe slipcase box featuring silver foil detail that depicts the famous Brixton Academy venue. Only 2000 will be made (worldwide).

TEARS FOR FEARS NO SMALL THING British duo Tears For Fears have released “No Small Thing,” THE TIPPING POINT, arriving February 25th, 2022 via Concord Records. Written by both band members, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the guitar strums pull you in with their folk-like tone, but slowly morph into controlled chaos, as Roland and Curt push the song’s sonics as far as they can go. “In early 2020, Curt and I sat down together with just a coumeeting of minds, a coming together psychically. We were literally going back to the drawing board looking for some depth, heart and soul with which to complete our album. Curt came up with this simple folk/country riff, a little bit Dylan, a little bit Johnny Cash, and then we were off. It was the complete opposite of what we had been trying to do for many years – searching for the elusive, modern hit single. We felt suddenly unencumbered, free our childhoods. It was at this point that the whole album started opening up. ‘No Small Thing’ was the key, the thing that turned a red light green,” Roland said.

This is a 3 pointer without a doubt.
