McLaren F1 McLaren Automotive celebrates it’s 20th anniversary

In 1988, McLaren took the decision to expand from Formula One and design and build “the finest sports car the world had ever seen”. In March 1990 the team that was to create the F1 came together for the first time. In its 20th anniversary year, the McLaren F1 is considered by most people to be one of the greatest cars of all time. Its exclusivity, technical innovation, racing provenance, revolutionary packaging and extraordinary driving experience have made it an icon. Just two years later, the McLaren F1 road car

was launched to the world on 28th May 1992 in Monaco, with the first production car delivered to its proud owner in December 1993. The F1 defines the McLaren road car DNA McLaren is a carbon pioneer. The McLaren Formula 1 team was the first team in Formula 1 to use a carbon fibre chassis in 1981. Nine years on, these Formula 1 techniques were developed to create the carbon monocoque for the McLaren F1: the resulting structure weighed just 100kg whilst offering the highest levels of strength and safety.

Mclaren F1 FACTS • McLaren F1 is still the fastest normally aspirated production road car in the world. • McLaren F1 GTR secured McLaren’s position as the only car manufacturer to win the Formula 1 World Championship, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours • McLaren F1 was first production road car to use a full carbon fibre monocoque • 20 years of carbon pioneering behind McLaren’s launch of the new MP4-12C in 2011

The bare carbon fibre passenger doors weighed just 7 kg each (which included the weight of the side intrusion beam). The F1 defined the McLaren road car DNA: low weight, low polar moment of inertia, clever packaging, superb quality and innovative design, resulting in an outstanding driving experience. The F1 bristles with innovative design. The central driving position, which ensures superb visibility and no compromise on control positions for the driver; the pannier side lockers providing

unprecedented levels of luggage capacity in a car of this type; the patented suspension system to provide both control and ride quality. The F1 was launched at a price of £540,000 in 1994, and over the course of the next four years 64 F1, 5 F1 LM and 3 F1 GT road cars were produced, together with 28 F1 GTR race cars. An additional six prototypes were produced. In October 2008, a delivery mileage F1 was sold at auction for £2.53 million, underlining the F1’s status as one of the great motoring icons.

French Manicure in Lilac Lagoon

When did your feet get so dry and unloved? When you were a baby, people cooed and aahhed over your feet, made imprints, even kept your first baby shoes to treasure then as you grew your parents spent considerable money on ensuring your shoes fitted correctly. As the years go by we seem to stop feeling that love our parents and elders had for them. Feet can become a nuisance, painful and a source of trouble even worse, we just don’t think about them at all! Oh what happened to those cute little podgy toes our parents delighted over? I hope to change how you care for your feet. I love feet, not in a strange shameful way you understand but in a happy and delighted way! My clients at the salon think I am a bit odd, but I do enjoy giving a great pedicure, it’s my favourite treatment. I will happily sit for hours with client after client, exfoliating, massaging and filing feet. Why? Well, its simple, they are amazing.

12 l GOODTIMES

They take us wherever we want to go. They don’t age like other parts of us. I respect peoples feet, it’s a very intimate part of the body, it takes a degree of trust for a stranger to allow me to treat them. I am honoured and well, you get the picture. Every winter we hide them away, stuff them into socks and boots, neglect and forget about them. Then, spring comes and out they come and we are shocked at the state of them! We wonder how they have come to look so neglected. But with some weekly care and a bit of love your feet can look great all year round.

Here are some simple tips to help your feet look and feel great.

do. Maintenance free, pretty and are great for holidays.

1. Moisturise them. How many of you moisturise your body and stop at the ankle? Take the moisturiser under the foot and over the toes. Regular moisturising can also help with the pain many women get when wearing high heels. 2. Hairy toes? Well it may surprise you to know that most peoples toes are hairy, wax it away, it doesn’t really hurt and gives you weeks of fuzz free toes. 3. If you can’t cut the nails straight, use a file. A file can be easier to use than clippers or scissors. Just remember to go easy and lightly and to file in one direction and use one that is not too rough, files come in grits ( degrees of roughness and a 220 grit is perfect).

Also minx feet are an amazing way to experience nail art that your friends will all want! It comes in 165+ designs and the likes of lady gaga, beyonce and fergie all love it so much that they are hardly ever seen without it. It lasts and looks fantastic on everyone.

4. If you have dry skin, invest in a good foot moisturiser or a heel balm. Don’t be tempted to file at your feet, over filing can encourage hard skin to reform. Go to a good beautician and let them do it and if your feet are extremely cracked then a chiropodist visit is on the cards! 5. Exfoliate your feet. How many of you exfoliate your body and stop at the feet? It tickles a little but you’ll help that dry skin. 6. Painting Toes. To stop toenails looking yellow, a clear base coat is essential. If you enjoy painting you toes remember the golden rules. Clear base coat then colour coat(x2) and finally a top coat. Allow it dry before you decide to put your shoes on! Nail enamel can take up to 4 hours to dry properly. Alternatively you can visit a beauty salon and have a pedicure. Don’t be shy or nervous. A good salon will take you through the process, make you feel relaxed and comfortable and also listen to your worries about your feet. Your beautician is there to look after you and feet, she’ll be delighted to have you so don’t be afraid to discuss your needs. If painting your toes is too much of a bind, then why not have Gel French or Glitter Toes? They last for weeks and look great whatever you

It’s my belief that toes and feet shouldn’t be hidden away, no matter their shape or size. If you look after them, they will pay you back by keeping you comfortable and pain free. And if you really can’t stand doing it, let me! Next time I shall be explaining how fake tans work, how to avoid that dreaded orange glow and what happens behind the closed doors during a spray tan. Love Hope Strength Foundation LHSF is an international, music-centric cancer charity dedicated to providing support for cancer centers, and inspiration to those affected, throughout the world. The mission is to save lives, right now, with the advances that have already been made in cancer care. We do not fund cancer research, rather we use our funds to purchase medical equipment and supplies, raise awareness through special events, documentaries and media, build cancer centers and find bone marrow donors.

16 l GOODTIMES

In 2010 cancer was the world’s top killer and will touch each and every one of us in our lifetime. It is a global issue in need of support from a worldwide network. In 2007, LHSF was co-founded by leukemia survivors Mike Peters of the Welsh rock band The Alarm and President of CSI Entertainment James Chippendale who believe that awareness, early detection and proper treatment should not be a luxury and wanted to find a way to ensure that all people have access to the same resources that saved their lives. With headquarters in Denver, CO and chapters in Dallas, Peru, United Kingdom and Australia, the Love Hope Strength Foundation has performed concerts on 6 continents in just two year’s time. We led musical pilgrimages to remote venues such as the base camp of Everest, the top of The Empire State Building, the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, and the glacier of Kilimanjaro and reach out through the

universal language of music. We have also teamed up with DKMS to expand our reach by conducting bone marrow drives at the largest music festivals in the United States so that people, like founder James Chippendale himself, can find the match that will save their lives. .Joining the Love Hope Strength Army in the battle against cancer are musicians from every corner of the globe. High school bands and Nepalese folk singers, to legends in rock n’ roll such as members of The Cult, The Stray Cats, Gin Blossoms, The Fixx, Tokyo Police Club, Squeeze, Candlebox, Seether, Smithereens, Dick Dale, Everclear and hundreds more have done their part to help spread the word through music. Each event is documented under the guidance of critically acclaimed producer, Alex Coletti, to build awareness through programs like Everest Rocks, now airing on MTV’s High Def channel, Palladia.

WHAT HAVE LHSF ACCOMPLISHED SO FAR? Funds from recent events have: • Purchased the very first mammography machine for the country of Nepal. • Purchased the first Nucletron brachytherapy afterloader (internal radiation) machine for the country of Nepal. • Funded a mobile cancer unit in Peru which will educate, screen and treat up to 30,000 patients per year in remote regions of Peru. • Funded a new wing for a cancer care center in Wales. • Supported the Valerie Fund in New Jersey, USA, a center for children with cancer and blood disorders. • Added over 2,000 people to the national marrow database. • Brought supplies to cancer centers in need around the world. • Sent cd’s and dvd’s to cancer centers around the world to brighten the day of patients through music. • Created an army of LHS volunteers who perform amazing acts of kindness and generosity in their communities. • Released the “Everest Rocks” documentary on MTV’s HD channel Palladia
