Our two narrow-gauge railways run through the heart of the Snowdonia National Park and provide the perfect way to relax and enjoy the magnificent scenery - during a car-free, care-free journey in comfortable carriages complete with on-train toilets and an ‘at-your-seat’ buffet service. Trains run throughout the year - every day to the end of October, with a limited winter service. There is always plenty to entertain the whole family, both on and around the railways - you can ride the trains all day; you can take a shorter trip to one of our stations and explore the local villages and countryside at your leisure before returning on a later train; or you can visit us for one of our popular, ‘family-friendly’ special events. Train times and further information available on our website.
Welsh Highland Rly. Super-Power Weekend 9th-11th September Our annual weekend of special trains and activities. This year the railway will be visited by two steam locomotives that worked in India and Indonesia. Together with our own ex-South African Garratts they will provide a truly international event with plenty to interest families and enthusiasts alike.
Ffestiniog Railway Cob 200 17th September This year is the 200th anniversary of The Cob embankment leading from Porthmadog. A year of celebrations culminates in a day of events on and around the railway. Ride the Victorian Train, see slates being brought from Blaenau Ffestiniog by gravity train and enjoy an evening firework display.
Ffestiniog Railway Vintage Weekend 14th-16th October This is your chance to experience the historical side of the Ffestiniog Rly. Our superb collection of locomotives and carriages dating back to the 1860s will be in use throughout the weekend - as well as traditional goods and gravity slate trains. Come along and see real history brought to life.
Both Railways Halloween Trains 27th-29th October Our popular Halloween trains are back again. Ghostly Trains run on three evenings for Fiendish Family Frolics filled with creepy costumes, crazy capers & c-c-competitions! (29th October - FR only) Please phone or visit our website for further details of all of these events.

Last year’s festival attracted more than 11,000 visitors and organisers are anticipating even greater numbers this year to what has become the biggest event in the area. John Les Tomos, Chairman of the Mold Food & Drink Festival says, ‘each year the festival has continued to grow and prove more and more popular. Visitors come from across North Wales, Cheshire, Manchester and further afield. This year we have lots of new exhibitors, different activities to keep children entertained, a great line up of celebrity chef demonstrations and live music throughout the festival. It’s looking set to be another fantastic weekend!’ Amongst the many and varied exhibitors to showcase their produce at the festival will be Orchard Pies, Condessa Welsh Liquers, Snowdonia Cheese, Purple Moose Brewery, North Wales Buffalo, Dragon Chillies, Simply Relish, Pen-y-Lan Pork and Riverford Organic to name but a few of the 90 or so attending. Two local beekeeping associations will be running an exhibition and honey show where visitors will be able to see the bees at work in observation hives and sample a wide selection of locally produced honeys. There will also be a film and lots of useful tips from members about how to get started on a new and interesting hobby for any budding beekeepers! On Sunday the Michelin and 5AA Rosette award winning Celebrity Chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will take to the stage to do three cookery demonstrations during the day, definitely not to be missed! Tana Umaga (New Zealand), extremely strong and powerful. Pre match meal? Chicken, pasta. Greatest personal moment in Rugby? Becoming IRB world player of year in 2008.
Favourite film? The Goonies, when I was growing up I wanted to be a Goonie! Best bit of advice for young players? Enjoy the game! Don’t take it too seriously. I see a lot of games where the parents are ranting and raving on the side, I really don’t like that. Can Wales win the World Cup? Yes! If we play to our potential we can beat anyone. There is no point going if we don’t believe we can win. We’ve got a great squad and we’re all looking forward to it.
Worst personal moment in Rugby? Getting dropped from the Welsh squad in 2002, I wasn’t playing well, and it motivated me to get my act together and play better. Who is your favourite current player? Darren Carter, pure class. What music do you listen too? Foo Fighters, I was also a big Nirvana fan.

Tatt’s Life Blane Inkaholic Dickinson
Tattoos are more popular than ever with their popularity boosted by celebrities such as David Beckham, Robbie Williams and Rihanna. Of course tattoos are not a new phenomena, it is estimated that they go back over 5,000 years. The word tattoo is thought to have come from the word ‘ta’ a Polynesian phrase meaning ‘strike’ and the Tahitian word ‘tatau’ meaning ‘to mark’ although there are different theories. We take a look at some of the fantastic tattoo artwork completed by 2 local tattooists operating in North Wales, Blane from Inkaholics and Hefin from Absalut Ink.

New Porsche Porsche is proud to present the new 911 Carrera, a completely new generation of the iconic coupe that has been acclaimed as one of the world’s benchmark sports cars since its launch in 1963. True to the 911 tradition, the distinctive Porsche design language exudes power and elegance. The unmistakable silhouette still catches the eye while incorporating new, exciting contours and precisely designed details; a 100mm longer wheelbase for improved stability and greater interior space; front and rear overhangs are shorter, maintaining the compact footprint that has been a longstanding 911 attribute; the sporting stance is emphasised by the lower roof line and a wider front track increases on-road presence further still while raising the renowned chassis dynamics. The rear-mounted, flat six cylinder engine is an equally symbolic component of the 911 identity; and behind the rear axle of the new car lies an uprated range of powerful, efficient and evocative ‘boxer’ engines. The 911 Carrera is powered by a new 3.4-litre engine developing 350 hp, and the Carrera S features a 400 hp version of the familiar 3.8litre. These new engines offer performance improvements for both models. The 3.4-litre Carrera with PDK accelerates from 0-62mph
26 l
in 4.6 sec, 0.1 sec quicker than the prior model. Pressing the Sport Plus button on the optional Sport Chrono Pack cuts that to 4.4 sec. The 3.8-litre Carrera S with PDK can accelerate from 0- 62 mph in 4.3 sec (Sport Plus 4.1 sec), 0.2sec quicker than its predecessor.

Jimmy Carr – Laughter Therapy
Age Guidance 16+
Since the turn of the century Jimmy has been a ‘fun slinger’ of international repute. ‘Laughter Therapy’ is his ninth solo show. It’ll be an evening of none stop jokes, gags and banter. If you’ve got a sick sense of humour then maybe laughter is the best medicine. Not to be taken if you have a sensitive disposition or an overactive moral compass. Recommended dose: one brand new show to be taken annually (I said annually).

Never one to take the easy option, Mark decided to go rambling in the Middle East and walked the entire length of the Israeli Separation Barrier crossing between the Israeli and the Palestinian side. This is the story of 300 000 settlers; a 750 km wall; six arrests, one stoning; too much hummus and a simple question... “Can you ever get away from it all with a good walk?”

A Celebrity Recital with Lesley Garrett and Emma Johnston Two of Britain’s most glamorous and versatile performers appear together for the very first time in a specially devised programme for the soprano voice and its instrumental counterpoint, the clarinet. Lesley Garrett and Emma Johnson are justly celebrated for their many achievements in classical music, making it popular, moving and fun. In their new venture together, supported by the pianist Andrew West, they focus on melody: the natural melody of folk song and of great composers like Schubert and Handel, Gershwin and Puccini, that are so deeply satisfying, that nourish the soul and that stay in your mind for ever. Emma and Lesley together onstage for the first time is a mouthwatering prospect that no real lover of music should miss.
