F O R E WORD It is amazing and very exciting to me that a small idea we had back in 1993 will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2013. In that time, the Festival of Speed has established its place as the world’s leading celebration of car culture, attracting the greatest collection of automotive, motorcycling and motor sport competitors anywhere on the planet. I wasn’t too certain if anyone would be interested in coming along to our very first event all those years ago. We expected around 2,500 people, and over 25,000 turned up! Today the Festival attracts over 185,000 enthusiastic and knowledgeable spectators to the hallowed Goodwood Park, and I think it is safe to say that the event now looks like it is here to stay! We will be celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the Festival this summer by pulling together our ‘Greatest Hits’ – inviting back the very best cars and motorcycles, drivers and riders that have appeared at Goodwood over the past two decades, along with some new surprises too. I look forward to welcoming you along to our notto-be-missed anniversary party and the biggest Goodwood Festival of Speed yet.

Stepping back in time
Each year, everything within the perimeter of the Goodwood Motor Circuit is transported back in time, as the Revival is as much about recreating the nostalgic and bustling atmosphere of the post-war years as it is about the finest historic motor racing. Vintage fashion is at the heart of the Revival, with many visitors, along with all staff and competitors, going to great lengths to dress in period attire, with the most stylish ladies and dapper gents being awarded prizes by a respected panel of judges. Live music, from big band to jazz, and boogie-woogie to rock ’n’ roll, plus a cast of spivs and grid girls, army officers and evacuees, all play a part in adding to the unique and vibrant atmosphere of the Goodwood Revival. Goodwood Revival Each September the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit recreates the golden era of its glorious heyday, bringing together the most historically significant, priceless machines, along with legendary drivers from past and present. It is the only event of its kind to be staged entirely in the 1940s, 50s and 60s, and a unique opportunity to leave the modern world behind to revel in the glamour and allure of the post-war years, at the world’s most authentic motor circuit. The 2013 annual driver tribute will pay homage to the double-world champion racing legend Jim Clark, as well as celebrating significant anniversaries, including 50 years since the development of the Ford GT40, and the 100th running of the Tour de France. A homage to the popular Goodwood Nine Hours will also be held with a 90-minute race into the dusk, and the Settrington Cup race for Austin J40 pedal cars will be back by popular demand.

Foreword The Goodwood Revival is widely regarded as the world’s most authentic historic motor race meeting. It is the only sporting event staged entirely to a period theme in which most visitors play their part by dressing in the best vintage fashions of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Although exceptional wheel-to-wheel racing is at the heart of the Revival, it is so much more than that, with period machinery of all shapes and sizes, incredible aircraft displays, live music, dancing and fashion, all helping to create a glamorous and unique atmosphere that has to be experienced to be believed. In September I will host the sixteenth Goodwood Revival, and the passion to recreate this golden age of motor sport remains as strong for me now as it was at the first meeting in 1998. Every year, we add as many exciting new things as possible, and 2013 will be no different, with a number of magnificent moments, including a tribute to Scottish racing hero Jim Clark, and a celebration of 50 years since the genesis of the legendary Ford GT40. I look forward to welcoming you to the Goodwood Motor Circuit for this year’s Revival, for what I know will be another extraordinary magical step back in time.
