photographs of various species of animals such as bears, deer, Wildcats and Turkeys among others. Villagers decided to assign part of the forest for preservation purposes, therefore, set to launch the project of the creation of an area of protection of the natural environment. After an arduous campaign of awareness and motivation, the inhabitants of Santa Catalina agreed in general Assembly, on 10 January of 1999 yield more than 30 thousand hectares of their land for conservation purposes, leaving abandoned agricultural and livestock activities in that area. In this way was born the Chaparri reserve, the first area of private conservation in the country.

Principles of ecotourism in Chaparri

1. The Area of Private Conservation ChaparrĂ there is a minimum impact on the environment where lives the community of Santa Catalina of Chongoyape, because they participate in the protection and conservation of the endemic species within its natural habitat. These indicators are based on the information provided by the guides as a reference to the NOemission of noise, due to the disturbance that could cause in the species; NOT littering, that could be consumed by animals and cause disease in your body; NO deterioration of flora, among other aspects that could generate negative impacts. The carrying capacity is important, 40 people accepted only as maximum, in the company of a guide by group, minimizing the negative impact arising from the large number of people, and in this way, it takes care of the place visited and enjoy various activities such as bird watching, flora, fauna, hiking between other.

4. Chaparri is contributes to the conservation of biodiversity, through the protection of an area of the Community (34, 412 hectares) being declared as a private Conservation Area, in which restrict extractive activities as hunting and livestock, allowing those compatible with the environment and nature, in this case the ecotourism, benefiting communities with revenue generated. Development of research, within which develops the construction of a herpetarium (reptiles, snake, tarantula, among others); gardens and nurseries in which are planted various endemic plants of the area to be then used in the reforestation of the area, the reintroduction of species that allow the regeneration of the ecosystem; Similarly include the spectacled bear as a factor in environmental reforestation, due to its power.

5. In this Conservation Area has been considered ecotourism as an alternative complementary to the traditional activities of the community, since it is observed that the majority of incoming tourists visiting ChaparrĂ today made a responsible travel, not only in environmental aspect, also led to the rescue of the ecological, cultural and natural values of the area.

6. In the Chaparri Private Conservation Area, is promoted in the tourists a foreknowledge of a natural area which goes to visit and all ecological, natural and cultural processes that they must respect. Three routes to follow: "The Route of the bear", "The Route of the Huachuma" and "The Route of the Birds", while visiting these routes, visitors must comply with certain standards, such as: don't make too much noise, always remain attached to the Group and to be attentive to all the advice in the guide so that your visit in this Conservation Area is pleasant and satisfactory.
