CAMPUS LIFE There are more than 200 student organizations, clubs and recreational groups at the University of Central Arkansas. UCA offers a vibrant campus climate that complements the academic experience, including Greek Life, academic and cultural clubs, and others. Students can also enjoy the amenities of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Center, which includes a 10-obstacle high static team course, climbing walls, high poles challenges, and ziplines.
PIVOTING CAMPUS EVENTS ONLINE The pandemic made hosting traditional events a challenge, but organizers found a way to create unforgettable memories. The Purple and Gray Network livestreamed several events including the Homecoming pep rally, the Bear Den Stroll-Off and the Purple Society banquet.
SUMMER ORIENTATION AND ACADEMIC REGISTRATION (SOAR) The SOAR experience for incoming freshmen is designed to introduce students to UCA and jumpstart transition into college life. This was the first year the program expanded to include all incoming students. More than 1,800 students, the most ever for the program, had the opportunity to participate.
RARE WINTER STORM The snowstorm in February would normally mean campus facilities like the Student Center, HPER Center, and the Student Health Clinic would shut down until after the weather event. This year they stayed open, and even extended hours, in order to support students who remained on campus.
STUDENT NOTETAKERS UCA offers several accommodations to students with disabilities. One of the accommodations is student notetakers. Students can sign up to volunteers take notes in their own classes for those who are unable to take notes on their own. They then upload the notes into the UCA Disability Resource Center’s system. Students receive 50 volunteer hours per course. Last year, notetakers logged 1,427 hours for this service an increase of more than 100 fold over the year before.
