Ingredients - 2 lbs asparagus, trimmed of woody stem bottoms - 1 large yellow onion, chopped - 1 teaspoon minced garlic - 3 Tbsp butter - 4 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth - 1 cup water - 2 sprigs of fresh thyme - 1 bay leaf - 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley - 1/4 cup heavy cream or full-fat sour cream - 1 Tbsp dry vermouth - 1 teaspoon lemon juice - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper - 1 teaspoon salt
1 Cut tips from the asparagus 1 1/2 inches from top and reserve. Chop the rest of the asparagus stalks into 1/4-inch rounds. 2 Melt the butter in a 4 to 5 quart pot on medium heat. Add the onions and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook one more minute. 3 Add the chopped asparagus (not the spear tips) to the onions. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook for another 5 min. 4 Add the broth, water, thyme sprigs and bay leaf to the pot. Increase the heat to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer, covered, until the asparagus are tender, about 10 minutes.
6
5 At the end of cooking, stir in the chopped parsley. 6 While the soup is cooking, blanche the asparagus tips in a small pot of boiling, salted water, until the tips are just tender, about 2-4 min. Drain. Rinse with cool water to stop the cooking. Set aside. 7 Remove bay leaf and thyme sprigs. Use either an immersion blender or an upright blender to purĂŠe the soup. For a creamy texture, if you want, press the purĂŠed soup through a sieve or food mill. 8 Stir in the cream. Stir in the vermouth and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with asparagus tips.

Danick Trouwloon’s The beginning
Her curiosity and her ambition to go out and explore new places and new people are Danick’s 'most defining features' She used to be someone whose self-expression was academic and she was only creative in private, but “I’m realizing that putting myself out there and being creative is a really nice way to connect with people”. By: Jade Mambre | Photography: Provided by Danick Trouwloon After graduating high school Danick left the island to pursue a Liberal Arts and Sciences degree in Utrecht. "During the four and a half years that I was an official resident of Utrecht, I lived in Lima, Peru for six months, spent three months in East Africa, and temporarily moved back home for four months to do fieldwork for my thesis". She is a young woman, born and raised
8
in Curaçao, who is open minded, laid-back and outgoing with “a dash of shyness”. Even though Danick will always be an island girl, she made the decision to leave the island permanently in February 2018. "It unnerves me slightly to tell people that I’m technically homeless. So I prefer to say that the whole South American continent will be my home for the coming six months”.
Danick traveled a lot as a child, and she always enjoyed choosing the next year’s destinations. "I think I really fell in love with the world when I went backpacking through Ecuador with my family at the age of 12". 2015 was the year she first realized she could go out and explore a place on her own. "I couldn’t really fathom my traveling plans: I would spend June, July and August in Kenya and Tanzania doing a field course and an internship. After that, I would move to Lima for six months on exchange. And to close it all off, I backpacked through Peru, Ecuador and Colombia with my newly made friends. I still can’t really put into perspective how fortunate I am to have lived that dream". 2015 was definitely Danick’s 'travel year'.
GOWEEKLY 16 2018 COVER STORY
Traveling regularly and why
Travel expectations versus reality
"After college, I was emotionally and mentally exhausted, and I found it hard to muster the energy to do things that I had always loved. I felt like I needed to wake up in an unknown place every day, to be by myself, and to learn to trust my judgement again". That’s when she booked a return flight to Guatemala for thirty days. "I had high hopes for the country, but didn’t know what to expect from traveling alone". In the end, Danick fell in love with the country, the people she met and she fell in love with herself. "I couldn’t have hoped for more, and I have been trying to explore as much as I can ever since".
"Every time my expectations were not met, I ended up somewhere better than I thought I would be". Danick learned that her "judgement is never better than fate".
The meaning of traveling according to Danick "Traveling is letting go of my sense of self, my sense of space, and my sense of time. Even though I have been traveling for a long time, it is always a jump outside of my comfort zone. But in losing myself time and time again, I have been constructing myself into a person that I am so proud of. Traveling is living my best life".
Traveling advice "Dare to follow your dreams and don’t let your fears stop you".
Future traveling plans
Danick’s Top 3 “Bring more underwear than you can count on your hands (and toes)! You will thank me later”.
Danick is now six weeks into her seven-month backpacking trip in Latin America. She is most excited about staying in Bolivia for one month. "I have never been to Bolivia and it seems like such a diverse country". Danick hopes to find a job after finishing her Masters to be able to get to know more places in "a more intimate way". "I don’t aspire to
become a social media influencer or someone who gets paid to travel. Ideally, I would have a job that involves working on community projects or doing research abroad". This is how she could spend a year in a place that she has never been to before, to explore and to feed her curiosity.
"Don’t forget to call home every now and then. Your family is invaluable, even when they are far away. My grandma keeps a little piece of paper with all the countries I will be visiting in the coming six months, and prays for my safety every single day. I don’t want to imagine what evil would have befallen me if it weren’t for her prayers, but every time I call home she still asks me when I’ll finally get a job".
"Live a little. Do that thing you were always curious about but never tried. Go to that place that sounds interesting, but might not be Instagram worthy. Take that last-minute decision and try to visit that difficult-to-reach town. Go by yourself if none of your friends want to, or join a travel group. Allow yourself to be surprised: it’s a wonderful feeling".

GOWEEKLY 16 2018 PEOPLE
Jorge Jansen, a man who is a bricklayer, started making kites when he was 10 years old as a hobby, and occasionally he used to sell them. In 1984 until 1989, he decided to make kites to sell on the island during the time when there weren’t any jobs that required his profession. When he first started, he didn’t sell many kites, but people started to talk about what he was doing.. Jorge kept selling kites on different locations on the island and started his business. That is how unemployment brought Jorge, a humble man, to explore more of his passion: making kites.
Celestino Jorge Jansen
Making kites for 47 years! Making kites Jorge Jansen puts his time and heart into making kites. He makes sure all his kites can fly when he is making the flying line. According to Jorge, that is the most exciting and essential part of the entire process of making a kite. He often gets help from people around him when it comes to making his kites. This year in Lent, he made around 300 kites.
Flying kites abroad Jorge experienced kite competitions in Bonaire, Aruba, Colombia, France, and festivals in India. His first competition abroad was in Bonaire, and he won a price for his rocket kite in 1991. Participating in competitions abroad
Jorge, on behalf of Go Weekly, thank you for the colorful kite you made for us!

is what Jorge does for Curaçao and its flag. He wants to show the youngsters of Curaçao that it is possible and that the opportunity is available.
“I do it for Curaçao”
In the future, Jorge Jansen wants to continue organizing workshops to share the steps towards making kites. “I don’t want kites to disappear”. Celestino Jorge Jansen wants kites to stay as a part of our culture, and that all happenings regarding kites keep growing. Everything he does with kites is for the people of Curaçao, and the island itself.
