ARIES

LIBRA

TAURUS

SCORPIO

March, 21 - April, 19 If you haven't worn it or used it in over a year, put it in a pile and move it out. Then, pledge to live a more curated life. To avoid a repeat of the past, assemble your treasures into a savvy closet organizational system.

Popular Leo

Barack Obama Born: August 4, 1961

FUN FACTS - - -

He collects Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian comics He won a Grammy in 2006 for the audio version of his memoir, Dreams From My Father He has read every Harry Potter book

LEO

July, 23 - August, 22 Take a chance on your dreams and get into action. The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. Don't make it a nimble baby step - take a bold leap. Better to err on the side of being 'too much' than play it safe and risk being underwhelming.

CAREER Take a more creative approach to your week. Write things down in a graphic, colorful way instead of in a straight list with bullet points. If you have a presentation to make, liven it up with vivid charts and diagrams instead of just words.

2

April, 20 - May, 20 Take the lead in love. This will bring a quick return on investment. Be sure to lavish some of that loving on yourself! Who knows? You could also hear from an ex. If that sounds like trouble, don’t even bother opening that door.

"Take a more creative approach to your week" LEO -

GEMINI

May, 21 - June, 20 Seek out people and activities that get the wheels turning. In love, a friendship could cross into more romantic terrain - and it could heat up faster than you think! In a relationship? There are other ways to get attention or keep things 'interesting' besides picking a fight.

CANCER

June, 21 - July, 22 If there's an issue with your partner that needs airing, this is a good time to do it, Don't hold back just to maintain the equilibrium in the relationship. Don't sacrifice your peace of mind just to keep from rocking the boat.

VIRGO

August, 23 - September, 22 Give your loved ones the attention they need. Don't let another day go by without saying you love them. Life is short and getting shorter with each passing day. Be confrontational about a serious issue that needs addressing.

September, 23 - October, 22 Any emotional stress you feel will be compounded if it isn't dealt with right away. Be in the moment while the moment is here. The more you face the present, the less you will regret in the future. October, 23 - November, 22 Summon your competitive spirit and get into action, promoting yourself strategically and charming the influencers. Unless you speak up, people may not be aware of your aspirations or what you're capable of.

SAGITTARIUS

November, 23 - December, 21 You won't take kindly to people putting restrictions on your time. Getting mad at people who expect you to keep your promises doesn't really make sense. Be considerate. If you're going to break appointments, do so with proper advance notice.

CAPRICORN

December, 22 - January, 19 People cannot be mad at you when you're just being honest - and many will be relieved that you called out the pink elephant in the room. Vocalizing your beliefs is one thing, but expecting everyone to follow the Law of Capricorn is something else

AQUARIUS

January, 20 - February, 18 Forget about waiting for others to make the first move or lay out an offer you can't refuse. Fortune favors the boldest. Vocalize your desires, but not in a thirsty or pushy way. Instead, paint a picture of your ideal scenario.

PISCES

February, 19 - March, 20 You're ready to invest in people who can go the distance, both in love and other areas of life. But if you don't ask the right questions, how will you actually know where they stand? Those 'feelings' you get may reveal an attraction, sure, but that's not enough to build a dream on.

ARTIST: SUDAN ARCHIVES COUNTRY: U.S.A. SOUNDS LIKE: A MIXTURE OF ANCIENT WEST AFRICAN FIDDLES AND MODERN DAY R&B YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO: 'COME MEH WAY' A self-taught violinist, 23 year old Brittney Parks picked up her instrument after a group of fiddlers played Irish jigs before her fourth grade class in Cincinnati. But her family (including her stepfather, who worked at LaFace Records in the early days) envisioned a different sort of musical career for her, originally pairing her with her twin sister as a teen

pop act. When Parks rebelled at the age of 16, she was kicked out of the group and out of her house, finding herself on her first plane ride ever out to Los Angeles, where she juggled odd jobs and slowly taught herself how to use her violin and laptop to make her own beats. She was signed last June to the legendary L.A. label; Stones Throw. So keep your ears open as you might hear from this talented young lady before you know it.

Biffy Clyro is a Scottish rock band, composed of Simon Neil (guitar, lead vocals), James Johnston (bass, vocals) and Ben Johnston (drums, vocals). Currently signed to 14th Floor Records, they have released seven studio albums, four of which (Puzzle, Only Revolutions, Opposites and Ellipsis)

4

reached the top five in the UK Albums Chart, with their sixth studio album, Opposites claiming their first UK number-one album. After their first three albums, the band expanded their following significantly in 2007 with the release of their fourth, Puzzle, creating more mainstream songs with simpler

rhythms and distancing themselves from the more unusual dissonant style that was present in their previous three albums. Each album up to know is a box full of surprises. Bold and lyrical, Biffy’s sound is something you might appreciate, even though it might not be your cup of tea.

Irving's frustration had been building up

Mike Tyson: Conor McGregor is 'going to get killed' Mike Tyson believes that Conor McGregor doesn't have much of a chance against Floyd Mayweather in next month's ďŹ ght in Las Vegas, he said in an interview with Pardon My Take. Conor McGregor

Kyrie Irving's frustration with the Cleveland Cavaliers built up over time, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Dave McMenamin and Brian Windhorst.

ESPN reports that Irving would have long conversations with James to try and get into a rhythm in the postseason. The signs of frustration go back to March 27. Irving finished a game against the San Antonio Spurs 4-of-13 shooting with just eight points. He finished the game, took extra shots and then retreated to the locker room for another long conversation with James. James was reportedly taken aback by all the recent news that Irving was upset and requested a trade.

6

Floyd Mayweather

Tyson mistakenly refers to McGregor as McConor in part of the interview. "McGregor is going to get killed boxing", Tyson said. "I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that's what it's all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy? McConor put his dumba-- in a position where he's gonna get knocked out because this guy's been doing this all his life since

he was a baby. McConor can't kick and grab and stuff so he won't stand much of a chance". "McGregor took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing", he added. Tyson added that if he was in a fight with McGregor, he would allow McGregor to kick and use his knees. The ďŹ ght will take place on Aug. 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

On July 7th, Irving sat down with the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) owner Dan Gilbert and asked to be traded. He listed the Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat or the New York Knicks as potential trade destinations. According to the report, Irving was growing unpleased with LeBron James controlling the ball more than him. He was also upset that James had a friend on the Cavaliers' staff that would travel with the team. Irving pointed to people like Damian Lillanrd and John Wall as simialr players at the center of their team.

GOWEEKLY 30 2017 COVER STORY

Music is infectious it’s timeless. We can find ourselves in different songs, beats and rhythms. They transport us to a different time. They might even spark memories, unforgettable moments, forever safeguarded within our minds and hearts. Some of us are lucky enough to share this music with the world. Some of us become great at what we do through hard work and practice and than there are a few of us that are just that much more blessed. They are simply gifted and it would be a pity not share that natural talent with the world. By: Miguel Gonzalez Perret-Gentil

Romana:

A Prodigy with a Heart of Gold It began at the age of 6 while a curiously young Romana was roaming around at her school’s musical open day. Different instruments decorated the room and it was the flute that caught her immediate attention. Noticed by a teacher, she was asked to try it out. Please consider this; the flute is an instrument quite difficult to play, especially for beginners. It rarely happens that on your first attempt you are able to accomplish any type of sound. She did, at the age of 6.

8

A year later she had the opportunity to join an Orchestra. Most people playing in the Orchestra were 30 or older. She was 7. Romana was humbled and fascinated by this new experience. She took it all in. They focused on Jazz, Classical and Latin which further enticed her curiosity. After three years she made the decision to explore her own musical preferences and roots. She joined a brass band at the mere age of 11 and played percussion. During this same period of time, she taught herself to play the piano. In the

brass band she dabbled with sounds from; Suriname, Aruba, Curaçao and other parts of the Caribbean. Being a mix of flavors herself, (Surinamese, German, Indonesian, Chinese and family members from Curaçao) she was attracted to these various sounds that somewhat represented her roots. It wasn’t only about music for her. It was about self-discovery as well. Being an adventurer as she is (when it comes to music), on her 15th birthday she was gifted a Saxophone. Yes, that instrument that John Coltrane, Kenny

G, Kirk Whalum and many others play. In less than 2 months she learned how to play the saxophone. She selftaught herself once again the basics of a new instrument. This was right before applying to music school at the age of 15. She was accepted.

Long road ahead But her musical career did not come without any hiccups. Often confronted by teachers, she would lose faith at times, believing she wasn’t good enough. Yet she found the strength to keep going, remembering how she

GOWEEKLY 30 2017 COVER STORY

“She will always be, the shy, humble, curly haired girl from different cultural lavors blessed with a talent to tell her story, not through her voice, but through the magical notes of her saxophone” was praised by that one teacher who was blown away by her natural talent when first playing the flute. She kept on pushing, knowing that music was her only tool of expression and the only thing in the world that made her smile. During school she truly got a taste of what it was like to perform. Each year she had a minimum amount of shows she had to perform. Her first year, she had to log a total of 250 hours, followed by 450 during her second year and finally a total of 600 hours during her third year. Her final showcase before graduating had to be produced by herself. She had the choice to work with other classmates, but wanted to proof that she could handle all the aspects of a musical performance on her own. From arranging the venue, to

10

playing on stage; it was all her. Her final performance was an ode to her journey. Starting with Classical music, she unnoticeably moved forward with Jazz, Latin and Caribbean flavors that captured everyone’s attention. She knew by looking at the public that this was it. People loved it. When I asked her who people compare her too, musically, she told me that funny enough, people have never told her "you sound like him, or her" they tell her “I can hear every word you want to sing, through your sax”. That’s the biggest compliment she could get.

Sunny Vibes It didn’t take long before people started noticing her. In 2016 she was

Romanademeneges

Romana de Meneges

approached by none other than our very own Juni Juliet, to play with him here in Curaçao. This was an opportunity she had to take. Simultaneously she was approached by a record label. The one condition they had, was for her to stay in the Netherlands and work on her album. She respectfully rejected the offer. Romana toured the Island for 6 months visiting neighboring islands Aruba and Bonaire as well. She immediately fell in love with our Island. She has family here, which made it easier for her to make that decision instead of signing with a record label. It takes a certain amount of maturity and selfworth to know that rejecting a deal like this might not come often, but at the same time, having the capability to believe so much in yourself that you know this won’t be the first nor the last time that someone will be knocking on her door.

The future Having played with the likes of Ali B, Sabrina Starke and Brian Dekkers in the Netherlands, just shows that her career is just getting started. Her desire is, to travel the world along with her saxophone and play as often as she can. The possibilities are limitless. Her believe and faith remain untouched. She will always be, the shy, humble, curly haired girl from different cultural flavors blessed with a talent to tell her story, not through her voice, but through the magical notes of her saxophone.

Open-Face Steak Sandwich with Parmesan Dressing Ingredients (4 servings)
