Daddy Yankee won’t visit Venezuela Daddy Yankee has no plans on returning to Venezuela anytime soon. At a press conference in Puerto Rico, DY said “En estos momentos no pienso ir hasta que se vaya Maduro del poder.”
The reboot of US sitcom Will And Grace has been given a second season by NBC before the premiere of the first season. The acting foursome, who grew to fame during the late nineties, will return for a 16-episode season in September, 11 years after the last one ended. NBC announced that a second season would premiere in 2018 and feature 13 episodes. The show was credited with bringing gay men and women into mainstream pop culture long before gay marriage was legal. The new series is expected to air in the US on September the 28th.

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee quickly made it clear that they had not authorized them to use the song. They also criticized the government for the current situation in Venezuela.
Youngest player in the MLB 20-year-old Ozzie Albies became the first Major Leaguer born in 1997 to hit a home run. The youngest player in the Major League Baseball is our very own Ozzie Albies. On August 3rd he took the youth movement to the next level with a tree run home run against the Dodgers. Albies became the youngest current player in the major leagues and first-ever major leaguer born in 1997. He’s also the 15th major leaguer from Curaçao and the fifth to play for the Braves, joining Andruw Jones, Andrelton Simmons, Jair Jurrjens and Randall Simon.

Who are you currently working with? Biggest artist I have worked with is Madonna. I am currently touring with her on her World Tour.
Why are you in Curaçao? I received an email one day to come teach in a different country. I knew people from here. So when I read the email, the whole message of what Art Rules wants to do here in Curaçao is so inspiring, I was like, I’m all in. I’m a one of the DJ instructors at the Art Rules program.

How do the kids inspire you at the Art Rules program? First of all, some of the music they have here and the talents they carry within them are amazing. I mean there are some of them that already produce their own music. They just inspire me because they are kids, they have an innocence about them and curiosity to constantly learn, like the whole time.
First time here? First time here and I love it, I would come again, again and again.
Favorite thing about Curaçao? Feeling the history, man! Just driving around, specially to the West side of the island. You can just feel the history of this place. You see the old slave houses, the Dutch houses, and you just have to stop and think a minute about what happened here back in the day.

COVER STORY GOWEEKLY 32 2017
Her home was always filled with music and harmonies that would transport anyone to fairy tales. Her mother is from Curaçao, so it is only natural that influences from our musical background such as Gospel would resonate at the house of Bus, combined with the likes of Bob Marley and other artists from the roots and reggae genres.
She needed to find her own path at the young age of 16. Her parents had nothing to do with the life changing decision she made. It was something she felt she had to do on her own terms and although her parents gave her all the love and support in the world, Nicole decided to leave home and embark on a journey that would last for 4 years.
At the age of 6 she was pleasantly confronted by her father with the choice to pick an instrument that he wanted to buy for her. It was between the gracious piano and the daring guitar. The piano won.
After 4 years of living from couch to couch, she finally came to terms with her own struggles and decided that it was time to move back home. She moved in with her mom and continued to build that harmonious relationship she had with both mom and dad.
Once she started playing, she noticed how easily it came to her. Nicole attended classes and kept on progressing. She recalls that around 8 or 9 her interest in music shifted for a short while. When she turned 11, all of a sudden music came back into her life. “I would grab my mom’s piano from her room and put it in the living room. I would dust it off, stretch my arms and I would start playing Gospel songs, they filled the room with joy. Everyone would be in a state of peace. That’s when I decided to write my own song. I was 11. It was about Jesus and I simply wanted to write about my experience with spirituality and how it completed me”.
Calm before the storm The harmonious union she experienced at home for so many years came to an end. Her parents decided to divorce, leaving a great impact on Nicole’s life. “I was cracked, broken, there was always such an amazing vibe at home and all of a sudden it was gone”.
"It was the Royal House of the Netherlands inviting her to attend an annual dinner intended for remarkable individuals of the Dutch society. Tears of joy poured down her face."
Stairway to heaven
In 2009 she struggled with depression and her mother felt that searching for God would help her through this difficult time. One day as faith would have it, an old friend from church contacted her. He knew about her singing talent and advised her to participate in the Gospel Challenge, a competition which took place in Amsterdam with skilled Gospel singers from all of the country. She wrote a song to perform at the competi-
tion titled Jerusalem. Like the city Jerusalem, the song represented the chaos she experienced, the troubles, the beautiful moments, but also her journey with God. She sang her heart out and left everything on stage and to her disbelief she won. Inspired by this challenge she just faced and conquered, she participated in 2010 in the 'Grote Prijs Van Nederland' and as tradition would have it she won it all once again.
9
A royal sit down After winning both competitions, things were finally headed in the right direction. One day, her best friend Precious (whom she considers her sister) told her “I had a dream where you were talking to the King and Queen (Willem Alexander and Maxima). You were having a personal conversation, a pleasant one”. Nicole just laughed at the matter, shrugged it off and continued her day. At around 5 in the afternoon while walking with Precious in the city, her phone rang. It was the Royal House of the Netherlands inviting her to attend an annual dinner intended for remarkable individuals of the Dutch society. Tears of joy poured down her face. Infectious screams of happiness and laughter were exchanged between the two friends along with hugs justifying this achievement. She attended the dinner. Her table consisted of the Coach of the National Football team along with CEO’s of various multinationals. The chances of the King sitting next to her were small. That night before attending the event, she made a deal with God. If out of all the tables (about 5 or 6) he would sit next to her, than her path was clear she would definitely dedicate her life to music. What do you think happened? In 2012 she graduated from the conservatory. She released her album 'The heart of the matter' in 2011. Two years later she participated in the voice of Holland, reaching the quarter finals. The album titled 'Nederlandse Bodem' was released in 2016 and exceeded all expectations.

GOWEEKLY 32 2017 COVER STORY
Sweater made by the fashion students of the Art Rules program
This year she released the album titled 'Magnolia' with the collaboration from various 'Yu di Korsou' such as; Adje, Hef and Kempi. Currently she is working on a new album in English, which is being produced by American producer Needlz who has a pretty impressive track record himself. Having worked with artists such as; Ludacris, Bruno Mars, Lupe Fiasco and many more.
Full circle Nicole is very much aware of her history. She knows that her blood comes from those who were enslaved and forced to move to Curaçao. Forced to make this their home. From misery came love. Her forefathers established themselves through the decades, and made this their home. nicole.bus
nicoleabus
Her mother comes from that lineage. She comes from this rock, and so does Nicole’s heart. Although she grew up in the Netherlands, this place feels very much like home to her. She always wanted to give back to the community in Curaçao and when she heard of Art Rules (an art based summer camp for students from ages 13 to 23) she did not hesitate for one minute in applying as a teacher. She emailed Ayra Kip (Co founder of Art Rules) and was immediately accepted. While Nicole is only 28 years young, she has endured more than others have throughout their entire lives. Yet she doesn’t regret one minute of her journey. It shaped her into who she is and is eternally grateful to God for the talents she has. With her voice and musical talents she wants to help those around her. One note at the time making their journey a pleasant one, each day for the rest of their lives.

Based on a memoir, four siblings must learn to take care of themselves as their responsibility-averse, free-spirit parents both inspire and inhibit them. When sober, the children's brilliant and charismatic father captured their imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Meanwhile, their mother abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn't want to take on the work of raising a family. Daily: 19:00, 21:45
