Objective. The objective of this project was to redesign and rebrand a Beatles’ album. I chose to redesign their eighth album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band Club” because of the freedom the Beatles’ created with the release of this album. They were experimenting with different musical styles and I wanted to create that same feeling with my designs.

Research. The following pages include my notes when researching the Beatles and their album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band Club”. After doing some hardcore googling, I listened to each song on the album and took notes on the tones, elements, and messages found in the song. This helped me develop an overall feeling towards the album and a direction to head to when creating sketches.

Sketches. The following pages include sketches of initial ideas for my album cover. At first, I struggled with generating ideas. Yes there is a concept with these albums but there’s definitely a lot more freedom in creating something that represents a piece of art because it is a piece of art itself. It’s not hiding as a logo or a layout, you’re creating art as well.

Digital Concepts. After the sketches, I brought some onto the computer to see how they would look. It was interesting to see how concepts that I was leaning towards as my final didn’t end up working out.

Refined Concepts. After that critique, we took two concepts and explored them in further detail by creating all parts of the album with that one cover concept.

Final Critique. Our last critique was short but effective. I changed a lot compared to my previous critique but the concept was still there.

Final Album. Overally, I am extremely proud of my album cover. I definitely pushed myself in creating a solid concept and executing it. I took the longer route throughout this project with handwriting out all the letters and elements as well as my hours of cleaning up sketches in Photoshop. However, it’s all worth it. I enjoyed creating the sketches and playing around in my sketchbook and hope to be able to create things similar to these in the future.

Final Poster. We were given the option of creating a poster to go along with the album for extra credit. The following is my poster. I took elements from my album and combined them to create a poster.

Thanks.
