1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
We are excited to welcome Gospel Recording Artist Vashawn Mitchell, to the Grace & Glory family. We talked with Vashawn Mitchell exclusively about his International Worship & Artists Training Summit (IWATS), coming to Baltimore in April. Vashawn also talked about his gospel music journey and a new project being released this month.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

March is Women’s History Month
The National Women’s History Month’s theme for 2025 is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” Women’s History Month is an annual observance to highlight the contributions of women in history and contemporary society. We should recognize that all women have stories of their own. We want to salute these diverse women and encourage them by reminding them that they matter to us, and they matter to God.
Women are some of the hardest working people in our society. I will not even try to list everything that women do (the list would go on and on). With all that women do in their daily lives, sometimes life gets in the way and will cause you to lose sight of what really matters, and we need to stop a minute and remind ourselves that we matter in the scheme of things, even when circumstances and difficulties make it hard to hold on to that fact. That is when we need to feed our faith, hold on to our hope, and be empowered to carry out God’s purpose for our life.
The fact that you matter to God holds so much weight, especially to women who hold the weight of the world on their shoulders.
God will equip and put in you just what you need to do what He has called you to do, and you will be blown away at what God can do, He can do exceeding abundantly, above all that you can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Of course, it is not always easy, as women we have had our share of challenges and disappointments and at times, we have even wanted to quit… but I am in awe of what God will do to show us that we matter to Him, His plan, and His purpose. This plan was never about us; we are just vessels that God uses to accomplish His will.
No matter where you are at this point in your life, no matter how young or how old, there has always been a purpose and plan for your life that goes hand in hand with God’s will for women of God. I think it is very important that we as women know we matter to God (need I even list all the powerful women who did great and mighty things in the Bible). Even if you must remind yourself every day, “Women matter to God and we fit into His plan”, then do that because God can use you; there is just one condition and that is to be willing to let God use you, and your willingness to serve so that He gets the glory out of your life.
EPPSJackie
God is always working His plan because you matter in His plan. I suggest you look back over your life and see how God has been working His plan in your life all along. You will see that your resume’ tells a story, stories of victories and triumphs, stories of God making a way out of no way, stories of healing and deliverance, stories of salvation and God’s love for you. Your story is proof that you do matter to God.
Happy Women’s History Month… Celebrate your Awesomeness!
Mitchell Vashawn
Exclusive Q&A Interview - Vashawn Mitchell A Journey of Purpose, Passion, and Praise
G&G: Vashawn, we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to speak with you! Can you share a bit about your personal journey as a gospel artist?
Vashawn Mitchell: Absolutely! My journey began in my local church, where I served by directing the choir and leading songs. What started as a passion eventually became my divine assignment. Now, over 25 years later, I’ve had the privilege of writing, producing, and singing the gospel of Jesus through music. It has truly been an incredible experience, one that continues to bless me just as much as it blesses others.
G&G: What inspired you to pursue this path? Did you always know this was your calling?
VM: I do believe this was my calling from the very beginning. Growing up in Chicago—the birthplace of gospel music—I was surrounded by legends in the genre. Being in that environment was a major inspiration for my journey. Seeing firsthand how gospel music could uplift, encourage, and inspire people helped shape my purpose.
G&G: What has been the most rewarding part of your music career?
VM: Witnessing how God uses me to spread a sound that inspires and changes lives worldwide is both humbling and surreal. I always say, “I’m so glad God chose me to carry a sound that’s bigger than me.” It’s a responsibility and an honor.
G&G: Who are some gospel artists who have influenced you along the way?
VM: That’s a loaded question! As a songwriter, I’ve been deeply influenced by the likes of Andraé Crouch, Thomas Whitfield, Donald Lawrence, and Kirk Franklin. Additionally, my mentors, BeBe Winans and Donnie McClurkin, have played an essential role in my growth, sharing invaluable wisdom that has shaped both my life and career.
G&G: What makes gospel music unique compared to other genres? How do you stay creative while staying grounded in traditional gospel values?
VM: Gospel music is distinct because it’s centered on the message of Jesus Christ. Whether it’s presented
through traditional, contemporary, praise and worship, or even gospel rap, the core message remains unchanged. I stay grounded by remembering that my creativity is orchestrated by God. The gospel represents the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that truth keeps me anchored.
G&G: What advice would you give to aspiring gospel artists looking to make their mark in the industry?
VM: My advice is simple: don’t chase after making a mark in the industry—seek to understand your assignment in God. Success isn’t about formulas or industry trends; it’s about walking in purpose. When it’s your time, God will break every rule in your favor.
International Worship & Artists Training Summit (IWATS)
G&G: Vashawn, let’s talk about IWATS. What inspired you to launch this summit, and what is its vision?
VM: This summit holds a special place in my heart. As a young minister of music at 18, I had to learn and grow without formal training. Many of us in ministry don’t have a structured place for education, so we learn on the fly. IWATS was created to provide education, information, and impartation to leaders serving in their local ministries. It’s about equipping them with the tools they need to be more effective
G&G: Who should attend this summit and what impact do you hope to have on the gospel music community?
VM: The summit is designed for a wide range of participants, including:
• Singers
• Musicians
• Choir Directors
• Worship Leaders
• Artists
• Church Music Ministry Teams
• Pastors
• Dance Ministries
Continued on page 10
Why Attend?
• Gain practical skills to elevate your ministry.
• Connect with gospel music leaders and innovators.
• Be inspired to lead with excellence and purpose.
• Learn how to articulate new standards and spark transformation in worship culture.
G&G: Do you believe events like IWATS are essential for the development of gospel artists? What are some key topics covered this year?
VM: Absolutely! These events are crucial for both ministry leaders and artists. This year, we’re covering:
1. Heavenly Rhythms: A Worship Dance Masterclass
• Designed for dancers of all levels who want to express their faith through movement. Participants will learn choreographed routines infused with worship and praise elements.
2. Choirology Master Class
• This session focuses on the art and science of gospel choir ministry, integrating musical excellence, spiritual leadership, and cultural legacy to elevate choirs from performance to transformative worship experiences.
3. Mastering Music: The Ultimate Guide
• A deep dive into the music business, covering copyright law, marketing strategies, and artist management. Whether you’re an aspiring musician or industry professional, this session provides the foundational knowledge to navigate the ever-evolving industry.
Other sessions include a Musicians’ Boot Camp and Worship Master Classes. More details are available at gospelheritage.org.
G&G: Who are some of the featured speakers and performers?
VM: Every year, we carefully select speakers who are seasoned in their craft and willing to share their knowledge. This year’s lineup includes respected leaders in gospel music, ministry, and worship, all dedicated to equipping the next generation.
G&G: What do you hope attendees will take away from this summit?
VM: My prayer is that every attendee leaves with knowledge that strengthens their leadership journey. It’s also important to me that this summit serves as a time of refreshing. I want people to return to their ministries renewed, inspired, and ready to serve on a greater level.
G&G: Looking ahead, do you plan to expand your mentorship efforts beyond the summit?
VM: That’s definitely something I’ve been praying about. Since the pandemic, large in-person gatherings have become more challenging. I’m considering an online leadership summit and possibly a structured masterclass-style School of Worship & Leadership. There’s a lot involved, but I trust God’s timing. Keep me in prayer!
G&G: Finally, what’s next for you? Any exciting projects on the horizon?
VM: Since you asked—yes! I’m currently working on a new project, and I’m really excited about it. I had the opportunity to collaborate with new songwriters and producers, and my first single, Make A Way, drops on all streaming platforms on March 7, 2025. A full project or EP will follow this summer! Stay tuned!

Life’s a Journey
The challenges and joys of life can come at the most unexpected times and cause us to question ourselves, our choices or our faith. The times of uncertainty and the blessings of life have a way of affecting each of us differently. Sometimes we are prepared for the outcome and other times we find ourselves struggling to maintain normalcy in some areas of our lives.
These highs and lows, joys and pain, planned and unplanned experiences often impact our mental, physical and emotional health. Sometimes dealing with the ups and downs has even pushed us to rethink our priorities and reassess our relationships.
Some of us have had tough times because of a health problem, the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, relationship issues and just the stress of daily living. Most of what we worry about are things that are out of our direct control. We can certainly pray, adjust our habits, make time for family and do other things that help us to cope and enjoy ourselves but we often focus on the negatives. We must
change our mindset when dealing with adversity or experiencing joyful moments. We must begin to integrate the good and bad times and learn from both and remember that life’s a journey.
We have heard or have spoken these words “enjoy the journey”. The journey may come with victories and defeats but we must continue to keep our hope. Learning to appreciate the good times helps when the journey hits rough terrain. Remembering what’s going well will get you through the disappointments, disruptions and discouraging times. Maintaining your joy may seem like a challenge but when you see the positive in spite of the negative your heart will begin to heal from the hurts of the past. This has to become an intentional part of our faith journey.
We are not left alone on life’s journey but have our relationship with Jesus to see us through. Our thoughts must turn toward the word of God when we are overwhelmed. “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right,
and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4:8 NLT) When we shift our thoughts on what God is saying in our situation then we are encouraged and empowered to continue on life’s journey. Not only do we have God with us on our journey but we have a cloud of witnesses that have been through what we are going through. Their testimonies can be the catalyst for our being an overcomer as well.
The journey of life will continue to have hills and valleys, sunshine and rain, joy and pain but learning to enjoy the journey helps to make each day more special. Beginning to look at what we value differently can free us from the expectations of perfection that can lend itself to a negative assessment of life. Remember the old hymn says, “There’s a bright side somewhere, don’t you rest until you find it.” Life’s journey may be filled with swift transitions, unplanned detours, unspeakable joy and glorious moments. Learn to enjoy them all because they are what make life a journey worth living.

Stay Motivated…Your Springboard Awaits
Happy March! As many of you know this is the last month of the first quarter of 2025. Can you believe it? As a matter of fact, the seasons will officially change on March 20th, and we will welcome Spring! Take a moment to reflect on your successes and challenges this first quarter of 2025. Are you still motivated about your destiny in Christ? I want you to imagine me looking at you face to face, eyeball to eyeball and saying to you in my most authoritative voice, “STAY MOTIVATED!” I believe that God has prepared a spiritual springboard for you! However, you must stay motivated. If you have never used a springboard or unfamiliar with what it is, google defines it as a strong flexible board from which someone can jump in order to gain added impetus when performing a dive or a gymnastic movement.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I am not a gymnast. I do good to work out three days a week. Therefore, I have no clue on utilizing a springboard in that regard. In addition, I don’t know how to swim or float for that matter, so I truly have no experience on using a springboard to take a dive. However, I do know that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I do know that God is taking us higher in our calling and destiny! I trust that He has placed a spiritual springboard for you and me to go higher in what He has already called us to do! I pray that March be our month that we springboard to higher heights in Christ Jesus!
Are you ready to go higher? Are you ready to soar above your equals? Are you ready to let go
and let God? Your springboard is waiting. Do not grow weary. God has created a tailored made springboard just for you. Therefore, no matter what season you are in; motivation must be a part of your lifestyle. You must hear it, speak it and surround yourself by it. If you are finding yourself in a place of discouragement or unbelief, I am so glad God has purposed me to motivate you. I am here to tell you; your springboard is waiting on you. It is built by the best. It will not give way. It will not fail you. Trust me! It is imperative you utilize it this month!
Wherever this message finds you, just remember, God is adding momentum to the good works He has already prepared for you. If you are taking baby steps, STAY MOTIVATED! If you are experiencing challenges, STAY MOTIVATED! If you are dealing with disappointment, STAY MOTIVATED! Get on your springboard and jump in Christ Jesus. Glean on things that will inspire you. Reflect on things that will encourage you, and breathe in things that will invigorate you! Let Isaiah 43:19 settle the matter. The word of the Lord says, “See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Stay motivated…your springboard awaits!
Live life on the promise of IMPACT!

No-Thing
Rhoda
TURNER
I was in Prayer and this song dropped in my spirit, “Only Believe all things are possible if you only believe. Only believe, only believe all things are possible if you only believe.”
I don’t know who needs to hear this reminder. Nothing is too hard for God. He requires us to do our part, and our part is simple just BELIEVE.
“So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
Luke 17:6 NKJV
I know that it may be easier said than done. Break down the word. The Bible tells us how much faith we should have. It also tells us that nothing is too hard for God. The word ‘nothing’ is a compound word. A compound word is comprised of combining two or more words. In other words, a compound word is a single word created by joining two or more words together. Nothing can be considered a compound word. When you separate the compound word you are left with two separate words. The word NO and the word THING. That leads me to believe that NoThing is impossible for our God. So basically, whatever you are facing it’s not too hard for our God. The Bible is our map and blueprint and if you search the map, you can find that (no- thing) was impossible. Here’s a few things that God did.
• Healed the sick and raised the dead.
• Fed over 5000 with two fish and five loaves of bread.
• He made the blind to see and the lame to walk.
Those are just some examples of No- Thing standing in our Father’s way.
Your issues, problems or cares are not too big for the Father we just have to do our part and that is give it to Him. He is our Father who cares for His children. Our God is a supplier, a miracle worker, a healer, and a way-maker. He is our Father and He cares for us. Our part is simple, trust and believe and while you are trusting and believing watch Him work it out for you.

Taking Care of Yourself: Top Screening Test for Men and Women
Benjamin Frankin said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” It is easier to stop something from happening in the first place than to repair the damage after it has happened. It is better to take reasonable precautions than to suffer severe consequences later. Historians say when Franklin first used this expression, he was not discussing disease but fire prevention. However, we recognize that preventive care for our health is beneficial.
Unfortunately, many individuals are less likely to engage in preventive health. We are more likely to seek medical treatment and advice when symptoms are present. Health experts encourage us to get yearly checkups. However, many are lagging in receiving preventive medical care. Let’s identify the three top preventive tests for men and women.
Tests For Women
Pelvic Exam and Pap Smear: Many women equate a pelvic exam to a pap smear. Although typically done simultaneously, the pelvic exam is the physical exam of the external and internal female reproductive organs. This can aid in determining any abnormalities of the uterus or ovaries. In general, Pap smears are performed to identify the presence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer and are not recommended until a female is 21 years of age. If your Pap smear is negative, the next one is not recommended for 3-5 years, depending on your age.
Breast Exam: It may surprise you that by the time a cancerous lump can be felt in the breast, it has probably been there for several years. Putting emphasis on manual breast exams has been found to develop a false sense of security. Often, women think if a breast exam done by them or their provider is normal, they do not need a mammogram. This is false.
Mammogram: Mammograms are the standard of care for breast cancer screening. It is recommended that all women between 35 and 75 need a mammogram at least every other year. The recommendation to start earlier depends on your family history and should be part of a conversation with your provider. Other screening tests to determine the presence of cancer include ultrasound and a biopsy of the breast. Dexa Scan: Osteoporosis is a condition that occurs in postmenopausal women due to the lack of estrogen. In osteoporosis, the bones weaken, increasing the risk of fractures. Caucasian and Asian women are more prone to this condition. Screening is done via a specialized, noninvasive x-ray. Women should be screened starting at age 65.
Tests for Men
Prostate screening: African-American men are at high risk for developing prostate cancer. It is recommended men 55-69, initially get screened via a prostate-specific antigen(PSA) lab test. Rectal examinations maybe recommended for men with a family history of prostate cancer.
Blood Cholesterol: All men 35 or older should get their blood cholesterol levels checked regularly. Men who use tobacco; are
overweight; have a relative who had a heart attack before age 50; or have diabetes, high blood pressure or a history of heart disease should get their cholesterol checked at the age of 20. There are several measures of cholesterol, and all are important in determining heart disease risk.
Abdominal Ultrasound: Men between the ages of 65 and 75 who have ever smoked tobacco should get screened for an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). This condition is caused by an enlarged blood vessel in the stomach that ruptures suddenly. AAAs frequently have no symptoms and are fatal in up to 90 percent of cases. An Abdominal Ultrasound can help determine an aortic aneurysm’s presence, size, and extent. The major risk of this aortic bulging is a rupture resulting in severe or fatal internal bleeding.
Tests for Everyone
Blood analysis/Lab test: Everyone 21 years and older should have a blood analysis test at least once a year. Lab exams should include a complete blood cell count, assessing the number of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, electrolytes levels, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and blood values that reflect liver and kidney functioning.
Colonoscopy: This test is recommended for everyone over 45 years old, and is the screening for colon cancer. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in American men and women.
Blood Pressure Screening: Everyone should have their blood pressure checked regularly, and people with cardiovascular risk factors such as high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, and smoking should check their blood pressure more frequently. High blood pressure is the biggest risk for heart disease and a significant risk for other serious health conditions.
Depression Screening: Don’t ignore your mental health. An estimated six million men and women suffer from depression. Indivduals are undiagnosed due to lack of serious conversations with their doctors. If you’ve experienced significant changes in appetite or sleeping patterns; decreased energy or motivation; feelings of hopelessness, restlessness or irritability, difficulty concentrating or have nappropriate feelings of guilt or related feelings for more than two weeks, talk to your doctor about getting screened for depression.
We are still in the first quarter of the new year. Consider vowing to get these tests during the lenten season and before summer. Honor God by rededicating your body to God. Pull on your inner Levite integrity and take care of the temple God gave you.

Starting Over Where I Started
Senior Pastor
Destiny is not always about moving forward or getting to the top of the mountain. But I celebrate the joy of starting over where I started in Ministry and in Life. In December of 1986, I
was installed by some of the greatest pastors in the world in my estimation, to serve as the new senior pastor of First Abyssinia Baptist Church. Over the years former members and ministerial friends have asked if I’m still serving at the corner of Warwick and Arunah in the Evergreen Community of West Baltimore. And I proudly say, “Yes. I’m starting over where I started.”
I’m not in a rush to do the next big thing for God. Instead, I stand still, reflecting on the incredible blessings He’s bestowed upon me. These blessings include a multi-use lifestyle facility next to the church we built in 1994 and a debt-free mortgage of $300,000 paid off in June 2024.
So again, I say in hopes of inspiring others that can’t get off the corner in our inner cities — I’m starting over where I started. I await the day when I, along with my congregation, welcome guests to enjoy a reception in our Towering Cathedral, overlooking one of the greatest cities in the country. There I will get to make the certain sound of the trumpet, as the late Dr. Proctor of Abyssinia Baptist Church of New York City would say.
In response to the ongoing demand for the gospel proclamation, I cherish the remake of my calling and my election is all the more sure and unique.

DAILY DEVOTIONS
DAY FRESH START-
DAY 1
There is just something to be said about possessing a trustworthy characteristic. There is something about being able to take someone at their word and them doing the same for us. Our word holds so much value that it will automatically validate or disqualify us in the eyes of others. We should be people whose words mean something when said. When we say we are going to do something, there shouldn’t be a doubt in the minds of others whether or not we will come through with what we said, because we have already weighed the cost before we committed. Others are depending on us to follow through on our commitments.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to protect your reputation by doing what you say you are going to do. Your word is really all you have.
Matthew 5:37 , “All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”
DAY 2
Have you ever been at a loss for words in prayer; you know you need to pray but you don’t know what to pray? Have you ever been so emotionally full that all you have is silence and tears? There are times when you can’t even explain to other people what you are feeling and experiencing in order to have them pray for you. It is just you and the Father. What do you do? You pray like Jesus said to pray: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Put it in His hands and let Him figure out exactly what is needed in these moments on earth in your situation. He knows what it will take to make your situation better.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to relinquish your need to conjure up the “right” words to pray and use the prewritten script; it is much easier to use His words than to try and make up your own.
Matthew 6:9-10
“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
DAY 3
We have a choice to make. Will we serve God or money, God or success, God or ourselves? It is impossible for there to be a tie for first place in our lives. We will know the winner by who or what gets most of our time, attention, devotion, and loyalty. Will the God who give us money for all of our needs and wants, the One who gives us our gifts and talents to be successful, and the One who created life win; or will it be the things that He has given us? We cannot create, provide, or give life in our own power. So why not serve someone who can and let everything else take second place? When we properly assign the roles in our lives, we will see that it was always a bad matchup. Nothing compares to God, and He deserves first place.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to examine what is getting the majority of your time, energy, and love, and see
if that person or thing deserves it. Then adjust your #1 spot accordingly.
Matthew 6:24 (MSG)
“You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and Money both.”
DAY 4
Relationships, like other things, go through seasons. We have people who have been in our lives for years and others who have been around for only a short time. Just like other things in our lives, some relationships need examination and adjusting. There are times when one person will contribute more to the friendship than others based on the season of the relationship, and there are times when it is an equal exchange. We must look at our relationships as a whole based on the fruit they yield. Questions that we must answer honestly with ourselves are, “Is it an asset or an expense? Does it, overall, yield good fruit or bad fruit? Is this relationship toxic to the health of my soul or does it cause me to be better?” When we are honest with ourselves about the people in our lives, it will make it easier to adjust those particular relationships if necessary.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to look beyond how long you’ve known a person, their feelings, and people’s opinions. Evaluate the relationship from an honest place and adjust accordingly.
Matthew 7:20
“Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”
DAY 5
The foundation of any structure is important. It’s what stabilizes, holds things together, and is used to build other things on top of. What we choose to use as the foundation to build our empire on will determine its longevity and viability. The success of our family, businesses, or education cannot be built in our own strength, but must be completely reliant on God’s strength, leaning on His wisdom and not our own understanding. Anything that we do in our own power has the potential to be destroyed at the slightest bit of adversity. It is unstable. It’s time for us to sure up our foundation; submitting each corner, each brick, each nail to the Lord. Let’s not labor in vain. Let’s build so that it lasts.
Challenge: Today challenge yourself to build on purpose. Ask Him to evaluate the foundation you built on your own, fortify the parts that are stable just lacking His touch, and give Him permission to redo the areas that are subject to fall at any moment.
Matthew 7:26-27
“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Roberta Flack
The Legendary Songstress gained her wings on February 24, 2025, she was 88 years old. She died at home surrounded by her family, and publicist Elaine Schock. Back in 2022, she announced that she was diagnosed with ALS and could no longer sing. The progressive disease, “Has made it impossible to sing and not easy to speak,” Flack’s manager Suzanne Koga said in a release, “But it will take a lot more than ALS to silence this icon.” Speaking to the strength she continued to show despite her condition.
Robert Flack has given us so many timeless hits. The Grammy Award winning singer and pianist’s vocal and musical style kept her at the top amongst recording artists of the 1970s. Flack is known for hits like “Killing Me Softly With His Song” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” the latter of which catapulted her into stardom after Clint Eastwood used it as the soundtrack for a love scene in his 1971 movie “Play Misty for Me.”
She often collaborated with Donny Hathaway and recorded several hit duets, including “Where Is The Love “and “The Closer I Get To You”. As a leading voice of the 1970’s popular music, she remained active and very relevant in the industry, later creating more success with duets as “Tonight I Celebrate My Love” with Peabo Bryson” (1983) and “Set The Night To Music” with Maxi Priest” (1991). In 2020, Flack received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, so well deserved. The musical deposit made in the world through Roberta Flack will live on for decades to come, Fly High Queen.

Tip 3
When it comes to “found” money, birthday or other gifted funds, and even work bonuses- we don’t really include it in our budget and consider it money to do something crazy with. Adding it to the budget will help you see if it might work for you to put a little extra on a bill. Choose wisely!
