from the editor
“The Lord is come. Let earth receive her king. Let every heart prepare him room, and heaven and nature sing.” It’s Christmas. . . a time of good cheer and holiday festivities, a time for singing carols and celebrating with family and friends. Twinkling lights, gaily wrapped presents, laughing children, jingling bells, fresh-cut pine . . . these are the sights and sounds of Christmas. As the world celebrates the holiday may the true meaning of Christmas never be lost. The birth of Jesus is our reason for the season. The Son of God came to give us hope and peace, to show us his Father’s love and compassion for everyone. “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel; which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1:23 Christmas is all about seeing Jesus in every tradition, every celebration, and every moment of the Christmas season. So we will not “spend” Christmas . . . nor “observe” Christmas. We will “keep” Christmas . . . may we keep it in our hearts that we may be kept in its hope. The Christmas season comes at the end of the year and you
may have mixed emotions about the year coming to a close. This year has been challenging for many of us, to say the least. But I encourage you, “Don’t Stop Believing.” Don’t focus on the year gone by, purpose in your mind to celebrate the season with your whole heart. Instead of focusing on the challenges, the heartbreaks, the setbacks, purpose in your mind to make this your best Christmas ever! This Christmas look up into the Father’s face and tell him you have received His Christmas gift . . . our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Eternal life and endless joy are parts of the gift. Christmas began in the heart of God. It is complete only when it reaches the heart of man. The best Christmas ever is not getting the perfect gift, it’s getting the true mean¬ing of the season; the birth of Jesus! As believers we know Jesus is the reason for the season. This Christmas remember and celebrate the coming of our savior Jesus, the one who was chosen by God and sent with a purpose and destiny. This holiday season honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who was born to save all mankind and was sent to give us a hope and a future. Jesus Christ came that we might have everlasting life for all those who will believe. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11 www.gracenglorymagazine.org 77 www.gracenglorymagazine.org

Interview With
Pastor Peggy E. Wall St. John A.M.E. Church
G&G: Pastor Peggy Wall, we are excited to be a part of this next chapter in your life. I understand that you are retiring as Pastor of the Saint John A.M.E. Church. How does it feel to bring this part of your life to a close? Pastor Wall: Frankly, I am excited!! It has been my blessed experience to move onward, and upward, through every season of my ministry service. Every job, every ministerial assignment, every Pastoral appointment has brought new challenges, but also new joy! While my life as a Pastor of a congregational church is coming to a close or an end, my spiritual life, of unrestricted ministry service, is about to SOAR! Pastoral ministry is both rewarding yet often restricting. Retirement will allow me to be free to continue serving God’s people and ministering whenever, wherever, and however God so desires to use me.

sixteen years ago. Please share the highlights of your journey. Pastor Wall: At the request of the A.M.E. Church Office of Historical Records, a summary of our church history was recently submitted by our Associate Minister Rev. Marsha Brown (my most recent ordained daughter in the ministry). Highlights of my sixteen-year tenure as Pastor are part of that history. These highlights I submit to you today as we conclude this interview.
Pastor Peggy E. Wall - Ministry Highlights 2004 was a momentous year for Dr. Wall. On June 20th, 2004, as one of his last acts as the Presiding Prelate of the 2nd Episcopal District, Bishop Vinton R. Anderson, appointed Dr. Wall to become the first woman pastor of the Historic Saint John A.M.E. Church. A few months after that unprecedented appointment, she was selected by Bishop A. J. Richardson, the newly assigned Presiding Prelate of the 2nd Episcopal District, to become the first female Dean of the Board of Examiners of the Baltimore Annual Conference, which is the five-year, preparatory school for ministers in training. Dr. Wall served in this capacity for 12 years. Because her gifts and her work “made room for her,” When he assumed leadership, in 2016, Bishop James LeVert Davis, elevated her to the position of Chair of the Board of Examiners, a position also not previously held by a female. Also, Dr. Wall has chaired and served on various key Baltimore Conference level and Episcopal District level committees. During her 16 years as the Senior Pastor of Saint John, she has diligently led the congregation to reach its goal of becoming a New Testament Church. Through her excellent teaching, powerful preaching, steadfast prayer, and the power of the Holy Spirit, she never lost sight of this goal and the vision for the church to become a “Growing Church...Growing People.” With her spiritual guidance, the emphasis is placed on worship and praise, prayer, unity and love amongst the members, tithing, the study of and obedience to the Scriptures, and ministering to and service to others. Pastor Wall is dedicated to and works tirelessly to help her congregants to identify their “spiritual gifts,” and she encourages them, stretches them, and provides opportunities for them to use their gifts in the church and to advance the Kingdom. Under her pastoral leadership, existing ministries have expanded. New ministries, such as the Health Ministry, which partners with doctors and health practitioners to host workshops and to disseminate information to the church and community, have been developed. The use of social media and upgraded computer technology was introduced as modes of communication to members and the community. Outreach efforts to the community have improved during her tenure.
Church ministries have collaborated to adopt Sarah’s Hope (a family shelter), Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School, and a homeless street community in the city. Ministries provide needed resources, as well as spiritual support and opportunities for fellowship. Also, Saint John routinely partners with churches in the Lafayette Square/Harlem Park Communities to evangelize to residents and to host Health Fairs, Feeding Days, and Worship and Prayer Services. Dr. Wall has also served with distinction on numerous boards, committees, and advisory councils. She is recognized for her unwavering leadership skills and commitment to excellence in ministerial, academic, and civic affairs. A teacher, administrator, and leadership developer, par excellence, Dr. Wall has served as the National Chair for Defining Excellence in Independent Schools. Noted for her commitment to effective city governing, Dr. Wall was appointed to the Baltimore City Board of Ethics in 2011 by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake; and she served in that position for two years. She is also the recipient of numerous awards and citations, such as the Carver-Washington Award from Tuskegee University for “Outstanding Achievement in Education and Religion” and the Fulwood Foundation’s “Valued Hours Award,” to name a few. Dr. Wall is the “Spiritual Mother” to 11 ordained sons and daughters, who currently pastor or serve on ministerial staffs and to many other “spiritual children” to whom she continues to pray for, mentor, lend a listening ear to, and to encourage. For eight years, she served in the capacity of the Baltimore Conference Coordinator for Women in Ministry. She is also the Founder of the “Girlfriend It’s Time” Ministries, which ministers to women determined to “Discover God’s Plan” for their lives. Dr. Wall, for the past 14 years, has continued the legacy of the “Seven Women, Seven Words” Good Friday Service, which was first instituted by Bishop Vashti McKenzie Murphy. As a proud product of inner-city Baltimore, Dr. Wall continues to exemplify her favorite Scripture, which is, “I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.” Pastor Wall will retire at the 2020 Baltimore Annual Conference. Although she will retire from pastoral ministry, she vows, through the strength of God, not to retire from active ministry.

to your good health
Never Alone
We are in the midst of the holidays and these are some of the most stressful times of the year. We have unrealistic expectations of others and ourselves, which can lead to disappointment and despair. When these emotions get ignited we can spiral into behaviors that agitate our thoughts instead of adopting behaviors that lead to understanding and resolution of problems. Not everyone has challenges during this time, but we may find ourselves supporting family members and friends that are struggling. We have to learn to accept that some people are looking forward to celebrating and others are wishing the days away. No matter which category we fall into, we all need patience with one another and to be proactive in working through the often-stressful times that come during “the most 14 December 2019 | Grace&Glory
wonderful time of the year”. We can make it through these next few weeks by being mindful that we are not alone. We have Emmanuel, which means God with us and the Holy Spirit, which is our helper and comforter. We don’t have to get through the holidays by ourselves because we trust in the One who promised to never leave or forsake us. This may sound churchy but it is profoundly true. We can make it through any season of life because our hope is beyond our present circumstances. Our hope is in God. Not only do we have our faith during this time but we have our family, friends or coworkers. Some of us can lean on all of these people but others only have a relationship with one or the other. No matter your circumstances let those who care about you know your need for help, encouragement and prayer when you become overwhelmed by
what’s happening or not happening in your life. Have them touch and agree with you and get through this time together. With technology we don’t have to travel to stay connected but we can communicate electronically to get what we need. Some have found support from online communities that speak to their needs. I know it’s not easy to open up and share especially when it seems we are the only ones struggling but I encourage you to try. Pray and ask God to help you open up to the right person at the right time. You and I are never alone when we stay connected to the source of our strength, Jesus, who is the Dr. Carla Debnam, Founder, reason for Renaissance Christian Counseling Center the season.

she speaks
My mother is my influence. She was a person that walked the Word and lived the Word. She was a living example of the Word. She allowed peace to live in heart which in return flowed out of her life. Watching her live her life peacefully inspired me to walk in her footsteps to live a peaceful life. Someone once shared a story with me about my mom. In that story my mother was in a heavy conversation with a member of the church that my dad pastored. The conversation got a tad bit heated, and the other women spat in my mother’s face. In that moment she had 2 CHOICES: 1. Revert into the person that she used to be giving that women a piece of her mind. 2. Show God’s love and be a peacemaker. My mother choose option #2. She chose to walk in peace ultimately deescalating the entire situation. Her choice in that moment impacted my choices years later. It was hearing that story that I made the decision to live my life as of a peacemaker. We live in a world of conflict. You can find conflict and opposition everywhere including churches, work places, communities, families and in government. It is hard to avoid; as it appears to be everywhere you turn. What should have been an easy grocery store experience for me one day was interrupted by a woman with an attitude pushing her shopping cart into everyone in her path. While she was running, rudely into everyone, they in turn responded back to her just as rudely and disrespectfully as she was giving it to them, and some even more so. Seeing her approaching me in the same manner that she approached everyone else, I realized in that moment that I too had a choice to make. I, without hesitation, chose to be a peace keeper. Before she could say anything to me, I apologized for my error even though I was not in the wrong. She smiled and said thank you. I took a mental note as she walked past the next customer that she even apologized when she ran into the next person. If you seek peace, 16 December 2019 | Grace&Glory
peace will in turn follow you. One of the things that we are all called to do and to be are atmosphere shifters, and one way that we change our environment is by being the peace we seek. When faced with conflict, we can settle a room just by maintaining our peace. Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.” How do we obtain peace? How do we become peacemakers and peacekeepers? We do it by practicing it and working on it. We stay prayerful, submerging ourselves in His presence. Peace is found in the presence of God. You can take His peace into any arena with you by simply being conscious of His presence with you. Peace is the answer when words are not. “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NKJV. As you separate yourself from the world, you step into the Word, and live life as the Word instructs you to. As you go through this holiday season where we quote repetitively that “Jesus is the reason for the season” let us also remember that Jesus is Peace, and we can easily say “Peace is the reason for the season”. As we celebrate Christmas, which is the celebration of our Savior’s birth, give the gift of Peace. In Mark 4:39, Jesus spoke to the winds and the waves saying, “Peace Be Still!” He calmed the chaos and conflict of the atmosphere with His words and has authorized us to do the same Pastor Rhoda Turner with our words. Christian Faith Fellowship Church Merry Christmas, Peacemaker!

trinkets to triumph
Immersed in Immanuel
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The time of year, set aside to celebrate your Savior’s birth. Christmas is the perfect opportunity to let God know that you are grateful for His unwavering presence in your life. It is the time to get ready to ring in the New Year with a clear 2020 vision of God’s existence in your life. It is the pristine time to immerse yourself in Him and celebrate the season confident that He is with you always. While you are planning your holiday gatherings, gift exchanges, and getaways, remember to immerse yourself in Immanuel by acknowledging His presence, communing with Him constantly, and celebrating the fact that He is Immanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23). Back in the day there was a popular saying, “You better act like you know.” This old adage set out to remind someone to remember or recognize a particular fact or to refrain from acting out of character. This holiday season is the perfect time to put this old adage, “you better act like you know,” into practice to keep you in character as a Christian who recognizes that this Christmas and everyday God is with you. This phrase can serve as a reminder to you that no matter what your situation or circumstance, you have to “act like you know” Jesus is with you and that you are victorious and triumphant in every situation. Immerse yourself in Immanuel and consider using the word, “A.C.T.,” as an acronym for (A)-acknowledge, (C)-commune, and (T)-triumph to keep you aware, alert, and abreast of His presence in your life. Acknowledge His presence. God promises to always keep and cover you simply for just acknowledging His name (Psalm 91:14). Immerse yourself in Immanuel and let Him know that that you love Him and that He is the prime person that you celebrate during this season. Make it a point to share with someone at a holiday gathering the goodness of God being present in your life. Be ready and equipped to encourage someone during this joyous season with the fact that the bliss you embody is due to you taking advantage of being immersed in Immanuel. Commune with Him constantly. Immersing yourself in Immanuel means that you find comfort in communing with Him continuously (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Immerse yourself in His word and share the Gospel with your friends and family members that you encounter over the holidays. During this holiday season, remember, and also look for the opportunity to remind others, you are never alone and that God yearns to spend time with you. Triumph and victory is guaranteed with Him. This Christmas celebrate His birth, celebrate His being Lord of your life, and give thanks toa Him for always causing you to triumph in every area of your life (2 Corinthians 2:14). Immersing in Immanuel’s presence gives you the blessed assurance that you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). It’s easy to get wrapped in your circumstances and to feel that you have to face them alone but remember God is with you and promises to never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). King David penned it perfect when he wrote, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast” (Psalm 139:110). For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Luke 2:7-14
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. 7

Say Yes to Life! by Bishop Shirley and Pastor Tim Stanfill
self-improvement. Say yes to a welllived life.
In the final weeks and days of the year, a lot of soul searching will be going on. Anger, depression, loneliness, heartache, and a multitude of feelings can easily take over your life. So as we close out the year and the decade, let’s remember to Say Yes to Life! Without a doubt, life is filled with many choices. Why not choose the ones that help you live yours in a more satisfying and pleasing way? The first thing to remember is your current situation is not your destination. God is always working to show you a better way and path, so you need to be working on your faith so that you can see it and receive it! Your life is worth living. It’s your belief in God and the value and importance of your life that will help your reality become better than your dreams. Say yes to a life that you live by your own standards. Say yes to following your dreams and doing what you want do. Say yes to a job or career that interests and inspires you and allows you to make a difference. Say yes to healing, and 22 December 2019 | Grace&Glory
Love yourself and others unconditionally. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” Corinthians 13: 3, 5 Why can’t we celebrate in others success? Why must we be so resentful or judgmental? Stop blocking your blessings by undermining or questioning other people’s success. Love yourself and others without hesitation or resentment. Don’t worry about expectations or your past mistakes. Take responsibility for how you share and show your love. And through it all, fully allow yourself to love and be loved. Go for it! Starting a business is hard and maybe a little crazy. Pastor Tim and I started 3 (at the same time). We knew it was a big risk, but we have bigger faith. So we stepped out there and took responsibility for the life we wanted to continue sharing and building together. Free yourself from selflimiting beliefs. Set goals for yourself and take the actions consistently and daily to achieve those goals. In addition to our full-time jobs we worked our businesses in the evenings and on the weekends. We went to church every week and always kept God first. One year after
started our businesses, we moved into the house of our dreams. You will never know the outcome if you don’t step out of on faith. Make your life count. How you spend your days is how you spend your life. Think about how you want to be remembered. Every day, wake up, give praise and go out and live that life. For it is the life you live that defines who you are the choices you make will determine what impact you have on the life of others. With God as your co-creator there is nothing you cannot make. God made you in his likeness. You were uniquely created to make a contribution to this world. Surround yourself with others on a mission to do the same and always express your appreciation and gratitude. The world is waiting to hear your message. If you have yet to share it, starting today, adopt a new perspective on life, ask God for guidance and go sing your praise and message to the heavens.

woman’s perspective Can you believe that it is already December my sister? I can’t. 2019 is coming to a close and we are fully immersed in the holiday season. I don’t know about you but I absolutely love the holiday season! I love spending time with family. I love the delicious food. I love the ability to reflect on what I am grateful for and how much love I am surrounded by. However, I must admit that the holidays can also be a stressful time for many with the demands of putting together holiday celebrations and buying gifts. This can be especially true for women who often shoulder the responsibility of planning and preparing family gatherings. So, I thought this an appropriate time for us all to be reminded that ‘No’ is a complete sentence. In our attempt to be there for our loved ones it is too easy as wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, etc., to forget to be there for ourselves. I can’t tell you how many times I have prepared a meal for my family and then later realized that I didn’t eat. Has this happened to you? In the midst of ripping and running we are often the last ones on our own list of people to be cared for and shown love. But I want to encourage you not to be overwhelmed. As a daughter of the king, peace and joy are your inheritance. “Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 1:2 ASV. Don’t live below your means and accept anxiety and stress as your own. What is the easiest way to live in peace even during the holiday season? Being honest with yourself about what you have the capacity to get done is a 24 December 2019 | Grace&Glory
huge first step. Many times, we take on too many responsibilities and are not real with ourselves regarding what we can actually handle. But I want you to practice with me for a moment. I want you to say, “NO”. Did you say it? How did that feel? You’re still alive, right? The world didn’t collapse. See you have the ability to say no. Saying no where appropriate is a selfpreservation skill that is critical. God has called us to serve and love others but we can only serve from what we have. If we are empty and exhausted, what do we have to serve others? We must say no in some instances so that we truly have a YES when it is important. And guess what? No is a complete sentence! Don’t feel the need to owe an explanation when it is time for you to preserve. A simple NO will suffice. Now I recognize that for my people pleasers this will be hard however I want you to remember that you are just as special as the people you love and care for and you deserve that same care that you give others. The stronger, happier, and healthier you are the more everyone you love benefits. So, before you can give an automatic yes, I encourage you to first take inventory and make sure your yes won’t Tiffany Bethea cost too much. Otherwise Founder Kingdomboss you know what you need to www.kingdomboss.com say right? NO.

body basics
How do you react to pain that you experience in your body? Do you ignore it or do your address discomfort immediately? We are so busy living our hectic lives that in most cases, we sweep our aches and pains under the rug and pray they go away. At times, we all suffer from some type of pain whether it’s a headache, backache, joint pain, and the list goes on and on. Pain is a good indicator that something is going on in our bodies, and we need to pay attention to it. When problems occur and we act on them right away, it decreases the risk of a more serious problem. According to the American Academy of Pain Medicine, chronic pain affects approximately 100 million U.S. adults and costs $560 to $635 billion per year in direct medical treatment costs and lost productivity. When we engage in a regular workout program, we feel better. Exercise can be a natural treatment for chronic pain, depending on the level of pain. Of course, some situations will need medical advice or a trip to your doctor. Depending on the cause of the pain, a well-developed workout routine can help to decrease inflammation, increase mobility, and decrease the pain, without relying on any medication. Walk Your Pain Away A good way to prevent problems from happening before they manifest is to combine cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training to your daily routine. If you are currently dealing with joint pain or fatigue, a moderate 26 December 2019 | Grace&Glory
walking program will help ease some aches and pains. By just increasing your movement a little each day will help to begin improving your body’s rejuvenation. Weight Lifting Does the Body Good Building muscles is important for stabilizing the joints and preventing future injuries. For people living with chronic pain, strength training is especially important. Building muscle helps you maintain proper posture and improves balance while reducing the risk of injuries that could lead to more pain. Working the muscles of the abdomen, hips, and back can significantly improve core strength and stability. Stretching is the Fountain of Youth Having a good yoga or stretching program is by far the best way to alleviate pain. Once you lengthen your muscles and release stress from the body, you will immediately feel restored and energized. Being more flexible is also a great way to avoid stiffness which often leads to injuries and pain. health matters
Diseases that Affect African-Americans develop causes blockages in the vessel. The blood will not be able to flow through the vessels of the heart causing tissue death and a heart attack. In addition, the increased pumping of the heart will damage the vessels making them weak and thin. The vessels can rupture resulting in a stroke. LUNG DISEASE The chemical in cigarettes and vaping products damage the lung tissue. Smoking is directly related to the development of lung cancer and emphysema. Studies have shown the African-Americans smoke approximately 20% more than the majority of the population. A recent study reported that smoking over 25 cigarettes per day was associated with over five times the risk of developing fatal lung and heart disease. DIABETES Diabetes Mellitus causes increased blood sugar levels due to poor insulin production by the pancreas. Increased blood sugar levels cause clogged arteries and a decreased blood flow to the heart and other organs causing heart disease, hypertension, blindness, and amputations. Research shows that the incidence of diabetes is 15% greater in African-Americans compared to 7% in non-Black populations. Obesity is a major risk factor in the development of diabetes in adults. Much has been written about health care in the AfricanAmerican community. It is readily acknowledged that men in our community experience multiple health care problems due to ethnicity and lifestyle. HYPERTENSION A predominate health problem for African-American adults is hypertension or high blood pressure. This problem may result from a combination of factors such as obesity, smoking and the high intake of fats and salt in the diet. There is increased “pressure” within the vessels. Plaque and other fatty substances can line the walls of the arteries causing them to become narrow. The increased fluid volume within the arteries caused by increased salt intake will add additional pressure within the arteries. Hypertension can develop in individuals in their late teens and will continue to profoundly affect their health status as they get older. Untreated hypertension leads to serious complications such as heart disease and strokes. CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE AND STROKES Directly related to the increased incidence of hypertension in the African-American male community is the increased occurrence of coronary artery disease. This disorder is also referred to as coronary artery syndrome. Hypertension causes increased pressure of all the arteries in the body, especially those surrounding the heart and the brain. This increased pressure can cause the blood in the vessels to flow much slower. The heart compensates by pumping harder and faster to push blood through the body. SUBSTANCE ABUSE Many of us are aware of at least one family member, neighbor, friend or friend-ofa-friend that abuses alcohol or drugs. This is evidence of the vast prevalence of this physical and psycho-social problem. Substance abuse affects the physical body of the abuser by causing malnutrition, heart infections, kidney disorders lung disease, and brain disorders. Unfortunately, the most devastating result of substance abuse is AIDS. Almost all the related diseases can be halted once the individual stops abusing drugs except AIDS. Alcohol and substance abuse impair judgment. Substance abusers often engage in risk-taking behaviors such as driving while under the influence of the substance and participate in criminal activity. AIDS The fastest-growing disease in African-Americans is AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). AIDS has two major routes of transmission. The virus can enter the body through sexual contact and by exposure to contaminated blood. Transmission of the virus through sexual contact can be between men-men or men-women. Contaminated blood exposure is through the sharing of needles in substance abuse allows the AIDS virus to spread. AIDS is caused by a virus that attacks the immune cells of the body. The virus prevents the body from fighting off infection and will affect other organs in the body. AIDS can cause liver failure, brain and skin cancer, tuberculosis, serious fungal infections, and bleeding disorders. Dr. Denyce Watties-Daniels Assistant Professor WHAT CAN WE DO?
