About Me Grace Vickery First Class Honours BA (HONS) Interior Architecture and Design Arts University Bournemouth Website: https://gracevickery632d.myportfolio.com/ As a designer I have always had a passion for creating spaces. My experience in university and in the workplace has allowed me to express this through embarking on a variety of projects including co-living spaces, retail design, office design and social hubs. This diverse range has allowed me to experience multiple types of design project. Throughout all projects I have gained an abundance of experience with understanding briefs, research, concept design and sketching, brief development, technical drawing packages, final presentation methods, visuals and verbal presentation. I have additionally gained knowledge and skills with computer software’s including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Muse and Adobe Lightroom. My industry experience with Interaction, who specialise in office design, has allowed me to gain insight into the process of a live project. I was fully immersed into various projects, helping the designers with technical packages in AutoCAD, developing design ideas as well as meetings with clients and making design decisions based on client needs. I was involved in group work and individual work, both I feel very comfortable doing.

Project The Recluse Lonely Student Hub Most people feel alone at some point, however, for some university students, loneliness is an everyday battle, that they can’t get out of. The Recluse is a lonely student Hub designed to create a community for everyone and anyone who feels lonely at any time. Based in the centre of the student town, and only a short walk from both AUB and BU University, this space is easily accessible and open from 7 am to 1 am. A coinciding app helps users to explore the space and receive a friendly introduction to help create a comfortable and confident experience. Students are welcome to come here and work in the cafÊ workspace with others or alone, as the space provides a communal atmosphere. Hand sketches of design concepts and existing exterior features of the site. Sketching allows design development with no limitations and encourages acknowledgement of building details. This skill helped me develop this project efficiently and experiment with ideas. Concept collages of the reception and the cafe/ study space. Collages allow me to experiment with colours, shapes and arrangements in a creative way. They additionally create an image that projects atmosphere and style. Both collages demonstrate a modern open space with seating arrangements to encourage socialising.

Images of Final Model Model 1:100 @A3

These images are of the final presentation model. The model demonstrates the key structural features of the design. The wood represents the existing structure and the white acrylic is the new structure. The design of the model is split so it can be viewed as a whole building, and as a long section to show interior features. Top Left - Split Model Top Right - Long Section Bottom Left - Rear View

This visual was created using Revit and Photoshop. It shows the upstairs study space in the proposed extension of the building. Natural lighting effects are created through the exterior structure to form a bright and airy space. Minimal texturing in this visual draws focus to the dramatic lighting. Seating arrangements encourage face to face socialising. Below, two technical drawings show the long and short sections of the space which is spread over two levels. They show details of ceiling heights and furniture arrangement. On the opposite page is a visual of the exterior garden, where users can engage with others in an open outdoor space. This was created with Revit and Photoshop. This space encourages users to take a break and get fresh air.

Project University Canteen Social Canteen Beyond the Kitchen Table is a project that aims to enable a better use of a kitchen space for all in a socially sustainable and affordable environment. The universal design relates the changing needs of users and tackles un-sociability between generations and groups. The canteen encourages users to cross paths throughout the space in the same way they would outside. The paths through the floorplan reflect roads on a map of the surrounding area, where local people live. The space can be used by students and local people, in order to encourage social interactions. The space includes cooking and dining areas, as well as social study spaces. This page shows an exploded diagram of the design. I used Revit, Photoshop and Illustrator to create this visual. It was an experimentation with graphic styles within the project. The right page shows visuals of the space in the day and night to demonstrate the long opening hours and usage.

Below is a sketch of the ground floor dining space. Developmental sketching allows me to develop the design and draw freely. To the right is a visual of the ground floor plan being used by the intended users. They can be seen using the kitchen and dining space. They also cross paths in each area and have to share communal spaces. The aim of this is to encourage socialising. The right-hand page is of the first-floor plan, which shows a social and study space. By night this transforms into a bar and social space for users after university and work. The right bottom visual is of a sketched over model. Creating a model allows me to visualise the scale of the space. This made a base for me to overlay a sketch at the same scale and explore a layout.

n this project I aimed to recreate the madness of online dating and the dark side of it, through a physical space. In order to achieve this, I created a series of spaces to replicate the process of online dating. These spaces included a profile room, a stalking room, chat rooms and a restaurant. The building used for this project is a First Church of Christ Scientist church. I therefore tried to symbolise the original use of the building through design elements in the space, including the shape of the mezzanine in the restaurant. I incorporated romantic colours and luxurious materials to emphasise the excitement and naive atmosphere that is around online dating.

These renders show various dating spaces where users can get to know their date after the game. The prevalence of pink in the space reflects the romance of the space and the idea behind online dating. Both these images where made using Revit and Photoshop. Top Left - Dating Space Visual

The top image shows the ground floor plan of the space. At the front is the restaurant and at the back various game rooms where users go through a selection process to meet their date. This reflects the harsh selection process online dating creates. The bottom image shows the mezzanine level of the restaurant. On the right side is another element to the game process where dates share their first communication in the dark to represent the blindness to who your really speaking too online. Project WEcreate Co-Living Space WE Create focuses on a big issue today amongst many young people, which is affordable housing. Bournemouth’s growing creative community consists of many young professionals that are finding the cost of living to be an issue. Therefore, WEcreate is designed to cater to their needs at a low cost. It additionally holds a bar open to the public to assist in revenue. This Page - Building Sketch Right - Living Space Visual

Floor plan visuals of the design. The plans show the design of a flow of the space. The first visual shows the ground floor bar and social space open to the community to help generate revenue and integrate the young residents with the wider community. The first floor shows the adaptable social/study space where residents can spend time together. The moveable walls can open the space for a larger group or close for smaller groups. The third visual shows the second floor which is the same up to the seventh floor. It shows the adaptable bedroom spaces which gives users the flexibility of privacy and communal spaces.
