Hymns IN THE NEW JERUSALEM When the toils of life are over, And we lay our armor down, And we bid farewell to earth with all its cares, We shall meet and greet our loved ones, And our Christ we then shall crown, In the new Jerusalem.

When the last goodbye is spoken And the tear stains wiped away, And our eyes shall catch a glimpse of glory fair, Then with bounding hearts we’ll meet Him Who hath washed our sins away, In the new Jerusalem.

Refrain There’ll be singing, there’ll be shouting When the saints go marching home, In Jerusalem, in Jerusalem, Waving palms with loud hosannas As the King shall take His throne, In the new Jerusalem.

When we join the ransomed army In the summer land above, And the face of our dear Saviour we behold, We will sing and shout forever, And we’ll grow in perfect love, In the new Jerusalem.

I’VE PITCHED MY TENT IN BEULAH I long ago left Egypt for the promised land, I trusted in my Savior, and to His guiding hand; He led me out to vict’ry through the great Red Sea, I sang a song of triumph, and shouted, I am free! Refrain You need not look for me, down in Egypt’s sand, For I have pitched my tent far up in Beulah land. I followed close beside Him, and the land soon found, I did not halt or tremble, for Canaan I was bound; My Guide I fully trusted, and He led me in, I shouted, Hallelujah! my heart is free from sin.

I started for the highlands where the fruits abound, I pitched my tent near Hebron, there grapes of Eshcol found, With milk and honey flowing, and new wine so free; I have no love for Egypt, it has no charms for me. My heart is so enraptured as I press along, Each day I find new blessings which fill my heart with song; I’m ever marching onward to that land on high, Some day I’ll reach my mansion that’s builded in the sky.

DEEPER Deeper in Thy love, O Jesus Doth my spirit cry to go. Until all my life is hidden Deep within thy cleansing flow.

Daily must I seek to please Him Whether it bring joy or pain. I shall know then just how blessed Is the worth of Heav’nly gain.

Refrain Deeper in that holy life ‘Til I’m lost with Christ in God. Hidden with my blessed Lord While I walk this earthly sod.

Deeper, ‘til at last in Glory In His likeness I shall come. Where the saints of all the ages Shall receive their welcome home

Hymns ALL THAT THRILLS MY SOUL IS JESUS Who can cheer the heart like Jesus, By His presence all divine? True and tender, pure and precious, O how blest to call Him mine!

Love of Christ so freely given, Grace of God beyond degree, Mercy higher than the heaven, Deeper than the deepest sea!

Refrain All that thrills my soul is Jesus; He is more than life to me; And the fairest of ten thousand In my blessed Lord I see.

By the crystal flowing river With the ransomed I will sing, And forever and forever Praise and glorify the King.

WE ARE MARCHING TO ZION Come, ye that love the Lord, And let your joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, Join in a song with sweet accord, And thus surround the throne, And thus surround the throne. Refrain We’re marching to Zion, Beautiful, beautiful Zion; We’re marching upward to Zion, The beautiful city of God Let those refuse to sing, Who never knew our God; But children of the heavenly King, But children of the heavenly King, May speak their joys abroad,

May speak their joys abroad. The hill of Zion yields A thousand sacred sweets, Before we reach the heavenly fields, Before we reach the heavenly fields, Or walk the golden streets, Or walk the golden streets. Then let our songs abound, And every tear be dry; We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground, We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground, To fairer worlds on high, To fairer worlds on high.

HEAVEN’S SOUNDING SWEETER ALL THE TIME Life has been so good, I can’t complain When I’m down, God gives me strength to rise again But I’m weary, from the struggle of it all So I listen, how I listen for his call Refrain Heaven’s sounding sweeter all the time Seems like lately it’s always on my mind Someday I’ll leave this world behind Heaven’s sounding sweeter all the time

It’s hard to lose a loved one to the grave But we have the blessed hope that Jesus gave God’s gonna wipe every tear from our eyes When we meet Him in that land beyond the skies

Her Story… D

oris May Sharpe (nee Brown), also known as Ms. Du-du and Sister Sharpe, was born on May 11, 1928 in Priority, St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica. She devoted her life to God, her husband, and her family, spending most of her life in the beautiful countryside of Jamaica until she and her husband joined their children in the United States in 2014. Doris loved and served her family faithfully until her passing on August 19, 2021 at the age of 93. Doris was the daughter of James Brown and Ivy Williams, and the only girl among the 10 siblings. She attended Priory Primary School. On January 13, 1952, Doris married Rupert Sharpe. The young couple settled in Smith Field where they would raise a family. Sister Sharpe became a homemaker, caring for her home, her family, and her community. While her beloved husband, “Robbie” was preaching near and far, blessing children, transporting them to school and interceding for families, Sister Sharpe was the perfect companion who kept order in their home and their lives. She always had Pastor Sharpe’s clothes pressed and his shoes meticulously shined. She ensured that he had everything ready and waiting for his next preaching assignment, Bible study, or prayer meeting. She lovingly prepared his meals and often had a hot plate of food and a cup of tea waiting on the kitchen table when he arrived home. While Pastor Sharpe was a pillar of the United Pentecostal Church of Jamaica who tended to the spiritual needs of the community, Mrs. Sharpe served faithfully and without fanfare alongside him. Not one to seek the spotlight, she quietly served where she was needed. She faithfully cleaned the sanctuary and discreetly bought items for neighbors in need. Together, she and Pastor Sharpe served their community and Jesus Christ through North Beulah UPC where Pastor Sharpe ministered for more than half a century, until his death in 2018. Doris Sharpe and Pastor Rupert Sharpe were a match made in heaven and they remained lovingly committed to each other for more than 65 years. They built a solid marriage on love of Jesus and for each other. Together, they raised five children who would continue to love God and build on their parents’ humble beginnings. Despite their own limited schooling, the couple made enormous sacrifices to ensure their children had greater educational opportunities than their own.

Sister Sharpe, who had an entrepreneurial spirit and a ‘Proverbs 31 woman’ mentality would rise early and go to bed late doing all she could to help support her family. She would grate up to fifty coconuts a day, often in the hot sun, in order to make coconut oil, which she sold to pay for her children’s schooling. Adjacent to her family home, she operated a small convenience store, “her shop” where she sold household necessities including kerosene oil and coal, as well as kids treats like bag juice and cheese chips. The proceeds of her labor were used to support her growing family. Thanks to her and Pastor Sharpe’s hard work, succeeding generations would go on to study and build successful careers in fields such as psychology, law, medicine, technology, education, engineering, real estate, media, business, the military – and of course, serving in the church. Sister Sharpe was petite in size but is described by her loved ones as one with an outsized heart. She had a generous spirit and had a way of making everyone feel special. She loved her family including her grands and great-grands. She remembered to mail birthday cards to celebrate the births of her grandchildren living abroad. She patiently taught grandchildren visiting from “foreign” how to tend to goats and chickens in her yard. She loved to laugh and she did so freely with many generations of her family even in her later years. Sister Sharpe was a trusted confidante and an unwavering believer. “It may be long, but it won’t be forever,” she would say during times of adversity. She often sought to remind others to remain hopeful and to seek God in every situation. She was a woman of praise and she enjoyed singing old gospel hymns. One of the last songs she sang on this side of glory was, “You need not look for me, down in Egypt’s sand. For I have pitched my tent up in Beulah land.” We are grateful that she had another land in view and grateful that by God’s grace she got to see it. We give thanks to God for Doris Sharpe – the cherished matriarch of our family. She left us a legacy. She demonstrated that a life well-lived is one where we serve humbly, sacrifice for others, work hard, laugh wholeheartedly, and remain firm in our faith during adversity. We rejoice knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved late husband, Pastor Rupert Sharpe. She is survived by her two brothers, Owen and “Pops” Baldwin, along with four generations of descendants including her children Mavis, Avril, Robert, Ruth, and Harper. Her twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of descendants, and in the community of Smith Field, Jamaica.

…for His Glory
