The richness and beauty of her life breathe Poetry Yes, the rhythm and rhymes of her tenure will colour history Her lyrics, her lines, her verses had us in rapture As the very essence of her being was fully captured At the onset, with trepidation, she tried to evade purpose But the call of God on her life was imminent, it had to be her focus The powerful anointing on her life was quite evident from her first sermon As she ministered, from us, tears uncontrollably ran She grabbed the mantle with fire and passion As haste was required for her God-given mission Pains and trials littered her early entrance But against the alluring voices of procrastination she boldly took a stance Lost prominence, lost friendship pushed her urgently Because they were designed by God to propel her towards her destiny Her star lit up and adorned life so brightly No one could miss it, yes it shone purposefully, it shone fully Now in retrospect, we understand why she was so ablaze, The Spirit was pushing her to successfully accomplish her God-given phase Souls were hungrily waiting for the timely Anointed Word Near and far her compelling, powerful voice would be heard Salvation, Healing, Deliverance, Prophecy were the highlights of her Ministry Everything was attacked with precision, everything with excellency At Encounter Ministry International, E.M.I. The Spiritual Standard was certainly very high

Our occasional visits were often so rewarding The rich anointing had us regurgitating and regurgitating The unadulterated passion of the Youths was so refreshing and inspiring The savouring taste was, “This ministry was on track, this ministry was firing” Today, I am so inspired, though deeply saddened about her passing She leaves behind the strong message, “Live life on purpose for life is so fleeting We have to do what we have to do now Purpose beckons, so we have to do it any way , any how A sweet, precious, Poetic Soul, arose, shone and then went down But death cannot and will not hold her in the ground Soon, oh so soon, we will reunite in the sky Never again to cry, never again to say bye, bye Sleep on Janet, we miss you.

As we reminisce about the life of this amazing woman, Janet, I ask a rhetorical question: What do you really know about Janet Allen whom you have encountered? For some it may have been a meeting by chance, For others it may have been your acquaintances during her school days. Perhaps it was during her College Years; And most definitely, for others it was either a religious or professional encounter. Whatever the circumstances or occasion, I promise you that you will encounter other truths about Janet today, as we all share in and close this chapter of her Earthly Sojourn. You see friends, Janet’s encounter was not by accident, but began with prayers and ended with prayers. Through fervent prayers by her mother Shirley Bennett, who longed for a daughter of her own, having already birthed four sons, got her prayers answered, conceived, gave birth to a girl and raised a Child of God, who matured into a Woman of God. Her birth brought joy not only to Archman, her Dad, but to the brothers who came ahead of her, and the one who came after her. That baby girl was given the name Janet, but how many of you know that the name Janet is of Scottish Origin meaning “God is gracious” and in Hebrew “Gift from God “? Those of us Christians can resonate with this gift, particularly as we recently celebrated the Birth of Baby Jesus during Christmas. Janet as a woman of God encountered the power of prayer by her mother and so it is no surprise that her book, “Banquet of Wines”, was dedicated to her mom as a token of appreciation

for her prayers and in honour of her unwavering faith in God. Hence, we now understand and know that Janet had to answer the call of God in becoming a pastor of Encounter Ministries International (EMI) launched on Saturday April 23, 2011. May I remind you who attended, that the Theme for that launch was “Beyond Brokenness to the Encounter”. You would therefore connect with my play on the word encounter in this Remembrance. Nothing about Janet was by accident. Indeed, she encountered God from the tender age of eight (8) and has never looked back, even as she received her formal education at Rosemount Primary School just a stone’s throw from the family home at Grove Road, Linstead. Then on to Saint Catherine High School (SCHS) in Spanish Town, as an awardee of Common Entrance. Incidentally she often told the story of being placed initially at Charlemont High but her parents and sister, Verica, schemed against that placement so that she could attend the same school, following the footsteps of siblings Verica and David. Janet also went to Dinthill Technical where she excelled in the Sciences having done the Arts at SCHS, a feat that many students at the secondary level still struggle with. Then off to the College of Arts Science and Technology (CAST) now UTECH to pursue studies in Food Science as a technical education teacher. And again this choice was against her own desire to become a Nurse. But as Shakespeare wrote “All’s well that ends well. ” Her loss to the Nursing Profession was a gain to the teaching profession and a career in Education. Indeed, She had a passion for education and studying and her next stop was the University of the West Indies, Mona where she graduated with an Honours Degree in International Relations before pursuing a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at Central Connecticut State University and was the Valedictorian. Prior to her falling ill, Janet was a PHD Candidate in Christian Counselling. Janet was an Internationalist. May I tell you though that it was through her encounter with Christianity and whilst a student at CAST, that she charmed the heart of Munroe, as she belted out that song in her usual infectious style. As they say the rest was history; he made a concerted effort to win over Janet as he was drawn by her powerful singing voice. He later asked for her hand in marriage and got his soulmate and they both produced Roejan. To quote Janet’s own words from one of her five books authored, Behind the MASK , “both Munroe and Roejan were the winds beneath my wings “ This was rivalled only by Sarai, her adorable Granddaughter. Time does not permit me to share the many experiences of Munroe as a caring and supporting husband, but just to say that, Every woman deserves a husband like Munroe. He epitomizes the vows “Until death do us part’’. Did you know that Munroe remained literally at Janet’s side from the day she was diagnosed to that moment when she took her last breath? The entire Bennett Clan gives thanks to the Allen family for raising such a fine son who took such great care of Janet. Thank you Munroe, you made it so much easier for us. Our Thanks also to Cousin Pam who took residence as the night nurse at the UWI Hospital and those folks overseas whilst she was hospitalized there for Five months, who really represented the fruits of the Spirit referred to in Ist Corinthians 13 :13 “And the greatest of these is Love.” You did what you did because of love. How could I forget Janet’s Encounter as a professional educator, which took her to her first teaching assignment at the Mavis Bank Vocational School, where she was a pioneer in what was a recently opened school under the late Sherlock Allen, a former President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association. That for her was an experience traversing the hills and valleys. Then it was a short stint at Holy Childhood and Merl Grove High Schools where she honed the skills of the girls in using Callaloo, to prepare exotic dishes, wines and anything Callaloo. They stood out in a 4H Competition. Janet’s next Encounter was at the National Youth Service (NYS) again , the innovator she was, organized a successful Youth Exchange Programme with host families in Canada. Then finally it was the Jamaica Foundation for LifeLong Learning (JFLL). Where the records will show that she gave of her best, rejuvenating dormant training contracts and winning new ones as she used her negotiating skills. And we should not forget her encounter with youngsters in the Inner City communities of South St. Andrew and East Kingston as she ministered to the citizens and gave them hope in qualifying themselves educationally. The success speaks for itself.

But as that door closed prematurely, a better one opened. She put her Entrepreneurial Skills to the test and opened her own Training Facility Purpose College where in partnership with North Central University of Minnesota offered Degree Programmes. Ladies and Gentlemen, this was the measure of Janet Bennett Allen. A woman of Tenacity. Feisty, Fearless and Fashionable. Daring and Resourceful. A Dynamo at the Microphone whether as preacher, singer, MC or Guest Speaker. A Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counsellor. A woman who like her sister Verica would say, was not verbally constipated nor needed the weight of numbers to speak her mind in the defence of truth. This was the sister of Verica, Ted, Michael, David, Norman and Peter and Richard who predeceased her . The daughter of Sister Shirley and Brother Archie who also predeceased her. Munroe’s wife and life partner for 27 years. Roejan’s Mom and Sarai’s Glam-Ma. Aunt to several nieces and nephews, and a cousin to many. A daughter in law and sister in law and a host of other extended Family members. If you did not encounter her during her sojourn on Earth. I pray that you would have prepared yourself to ensure that you meet in the next Phase of her journey. We mourn yes, but are comforted knowing that God chose Janet. And borrowing from James Weldon Johnson’s GOD’S TROMBONE, I say “Weep not-weep not, She is not dead. She is resting in the bosom of Jesus.” Walk good my sister!

Work and Achievements Janet could not help herself but to attain and maintain a life of excellence. Her drive, her ambition, her aptitude and her visions all enabled a burning passion for the marriage of Education, Youth and Outreach. Par none, she built a solid foundation for her vernacular deeply rooted in the dried ink of the English Dictionary which later became her nature of eloquence and assertiveness. She meandered through the Educational system from the onset of her younger years where she received her formal education at Rosemount Primary School located in Linstead, then on to Saint Catherine High School (SCHS) in Spanish Town, as an awardee of the Common Entrance Examinations. Janet also attended Dinthill Technical High School where she excelled in the Sciences, having done the Arts at SCHS. She graduated from the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST), now UTECH, where she pursued studies in Food Science to matriculate as a Technical Education Teacher. Indeed, she had a passion for EDUCATION and ACHIEVEMENT and this was evident in her pursuit for higher education. Her next mission was the University of the West Indies, Mona where she graduated with an Honours Degree in International Relations. She further pursued a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at Central Connecticut State University, where she was the Valedictorian. Prior to her falling ill, Janet was reading for a PHD in Christian Counselling. JANET ALLEN and her Husband Munroe Allen established Encounter Ministries International (EMI) in April 2011, with the Mandate “Beyond Brokenness To An Encounter”. She was consecrated as a Co-Pastor in April 2011 and ordained as a Pastor in May 2016. Janet Allen was a highly respected Writer. She authored five (5) Books over a period spanning 11 years namely;- BEHIND THE MASK - BANQUET OF WINES - Soul ConneXion -The Jonah Encounter - MY OTHER MAN This Woman of GOD was a prolific Conference Presenter and an anointed Preacher/Vessel gifted in ushering people into the presence of GOD, through Praise & Worship. Janet was a trophy of GOD’S Grace. Her love for GOD propelled her to pour out unselfishly into the lives of others. She was on a mission to impact the lives of all within her sphere of influence, towards living life as GOD designed. A mission that she successfully and emphatically accomplished, under the inspiration and motivation of Scripture, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to 8

the power that works in us”. - Ephesians 3:20 Janet... risen, fueled and driven by the foundation principles of Godliness, Integrity, Humility and Progress that were instilled in her by her Parents Shirley Bennett and Archman Bennett (Deceased). Along the journey, her Anthropological and Empowerment skills were used in the various outreach programs she either created or executed or spearheaded. From the days of the National Youth Service (NYS) where she initiated an intervention program for ‘TROUBLED TEENAGERS’ by drafting teenagers into a one-month military camp, where they were reprogrammed to understand and accept the values and attitudes of the society. This program lasted for three or four cycles until the change of the political directorate took place. There were visible benefits to all the participants in this program. Her love for young people is amalgamated with her love for education and soon, Janet the student became Janet the Educator. She launched her own Educational Institute - PURPOSE COLLEGE (School Of Personal And Professional Development), a long standing dream of hers, with her ever-supportive husband – Munroe – in 2019. The main objective of Purpose College was to promote continuing studies for clinical counselling. Purpose College was officially registered as a Limited Liability Entity and gained all the required accreditations from the Ministry of Health in 2020. Credit must be given to the Holy Ghost Fortified Carrier, Janet’s Husband Overseer Munroe, an exceptional Man For All Seasons, Daughter Roejan, Siblings Verica, David, Michael, Norman, Peter and Richard... Aunt Lurline, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews, InLaw Relatives and the EMI Family, as well as, Pastor Janet’s youngest and most effervescent Cheerleader, Granddaughter Princess Sarai. We can emphatically conclude that Janet Elaine Bennett Allen was a results-oriented achiever with a passion for excellence and an insatiable desire to execute her Kingdom responsibilities. She truly loved God and this love was manifested in the way she lived her life.

Ministry Achievements The departure of PASTOR JANET ALLEN from this first life, represents a monumental loss to the Body of Christ at large and our EMI family in particular. This colossal loss will require those of us who are here in the EMI Unit, to redouble our efforts, in order to keep the momentum going and the trail she has blazed, burning, since Pastor Janet was an integral component in the Engine of our EMI Ministry.

Pastor Janet was an exemplary specimen of the TRUTH. She was honest, sincere, authentic and candid, in everything she said and did. She would always speak her mind and tell it as it is without varnish and without garnish.

Project Achievements Pastor Janet dedicated a lot of her time concerning Elements of Anthropology, as well as, the exegetical theology of GOD’S relationship with The Spirit Man. Writing on one of her insightful themes last year, “THE WILL OF GOD”, she quoted the following expression, “I’ve discovered that GOD’S ability is embodied in His omnipotence, while His WILL is encased in his omniscience. Ultimately it seems as if GOD places a higher premium or a greater weight of His glory on His omniscience, when making decisions about us and that will impact our lives”. Pastor Janet would often use poignant quotes to drive home significant kingdom principles and doctrines. One such QUOTE is... “Time is a currency designed to be spent; So spend it wisely, as now is the only opportunity you will have, where flesh with spirit work together” Pastor Janet was a great advocate for the EMPOWERMENT of the People of GOD to activate the supernatural in them on Earth and fulfil their divine calling. She was a strong and passionate promoter of the embracing of Truth in Faith. It was from this passion, vision and resolve that both herself and her husband Munroe were called to be the catalyst of the birth of Encounter Ministries International (EMI), a decade ago and the recent establishment of Purpose College less than a year ago. This Woman of GOD had always reserved a place in her heart for young people and young children. She was an exceptional role model for them and bonded admirably with them through genuine love and mutual respect. Pastor Janet had a compassionate heart and the rare ability to make those whom she would commune with, feel a sense of worth and value. She had that pull, charm and magnetism about her.

Who can find a Virtuous Woman? The scripture asks who can find a Virtuous Woman? I certainly did, I found my Rib. God put Adam in a deep sleep and took from his side a rib and made a Woman. Adam lost his rib and found it later as Eve. I found my Rib, Janet was my Rib. She was such a phenomenal Woman. I met Jan on campus, CAST now UTECH, she was studying home management and food science, while I was studying Engineering. There was a Christian Fellowship on campus called SACA then, where we would meet on a Tuesday night for Fellowship. Jan was invited by the then president, Pastor Errol Morris, to sing and I played the piano. It was an instant connection as Jan sang…her voice connected with me and even inspired my playing. From that day, Chemistry developed and blossomed into a great friendship, even after graduation. Jan took an offer to work in Canada on a special program. She was living in an area of Canada where there were little to no Blacks present. We would keep in communication through the traditional, but romantic letter writing, as there was no WhatsApp, E-mail, Twitter, Facebook or social media and telephone was very expensive. Nonetheless, we kept in contact, but had to wait weeks for the slow delivery timeframe from the local postal services…oh how we eagerly awaited responses from each other. I later discovered that there was a competition, the only Black man in the area, who heard Jan sang at a Church service and was pursuing her. Immediately I said I must do something about it. So, I went to the top jewelry store on constant Spring rd. in Kingston and bought Jan a very nice expensive engagement ring. I also bought some Jamaica spices and packaged it together along with the engagement ring and FedEx it off to Jan in Canada. I timed the delivery date of the package and called Jan the day of the arrival of the package. While speaking with her on the phone she heard the doorbell rang and went to enquire, only to see the FedEx delivery man with her package. She quickly opened it to find the Jamaican spices and to her surprise a box with the engagement ring…. I proposed to her, and she did not hesitate to accept, and the rest is history. We were married 27 years, Janet loved Family, she integrated seamlessly into my Family and quickly established a bond with all. Throughout our marriage, we talked about everything, there was no secrets between us, we opened to each other, in fact, Jan’s temperament was that she would tell you like it is...even when it hurts.... hhmm, but if you want to hear the truth and to get an unbiased opinion check Janet…I admired that about Jan, it certainly kept me on my toes Janet had a passion for people, especially young people...she was like a magnet, people were drawn to her, but she was also a no-nonsense person. She was a natural, jovial, life of the party, there was never a dull moment with Jan....we had fun, one of her favorite games she and I would play is UNO. 14 Celebrating A Life Well Lived

She could have a conversation with everyone and anyone, if she was in a corporate setting she knew how to adopt (polished, intelligent), and if it is a down to earth setting Jan was able to switch and adopt.... Janet was Help Meet indeed, she stood by me in everything. When I got the call for Ministry, she never hesitated to provide the well needed support. She was a visionary, EMI has so many different Ministries that she was instrumental in implementing...P&W, iPLEDGE, YES Ministry, YES kids, Collegiate, PRAYNATION, GPS, iREACH, and so many more....that was a help meet indeed. She was my inspiration, she was my success, she was a radical, she had a unique way of viewing things, you could depend on Janet to bring a fresh perspective to the table that you didn’t even think of, and we saw that even in the way she delivered the words of God during her preaching. She was a Praise and Worship Pioneer, an Author extraordinaire... The Lord provided the opportunity for us to spend the last five months of her life together in fine style. Though in a hospital, but in a very comfortable, 9-star facility. The experience at the National institute of health (NIH) was heavenly, the care, the passion, the sincerity, the medical resources, the team of doctors and especially the 3SEN team was mind blowing. I believe the Lord orchestrated this, to provide the best comfort and excellent care for her as she was being prepared for her exit. Just before she passed, the doctors said to me “Mr Allen, she must be holding onto something, maybe you need to release her”. The doctor continued to say she has never seen such high levels and the patient is still alive, the normal level is between the range 4 – 11, and Jan’s levels went up to 500. The doctor said she must be holding onto something and maybe I need to release her. A few minutes later, after the doctor left, I said to Jan “Jan you know I love you, but if you hear the voice of the Lord calling you home, its ok, go ahead, we will be ok, Roejan, Sarai and I will be ok, Sis Bennett will be ok, and if I were to do this over again it is you who I would marry. Immediately her breathing changed to a calmer, slower and more peaceful one…she was going, she had a few pulses left and I said to her “hold on Roejan is on her way,” and as Roejan came and hugged her and said “Mom I am here”, she gave the last breath and went home…she held back the hands of death to allow me to release her. We lost an Icon, a Kingdom General....but Heaven gained a STAR…Love always!!! Munroe Allen

Janet Elaine Allen 15

To the Woman I Adore, Numb, hurt, devastated and confused are the few unspoken truths that have become one with the arteries of my heart. I question a lot of things surrounding your passing, down to my very existence Mun-ROE and JAN-et. The very essence of my name exemplifies that one cannot exist without the other. Roejan, who am I? Who do I turn to? Who will be there to give me that motherly advise only you could give? Who am I without the woman I literally embody? I am you and you are the better version of me. The woman I aspire to become, the woman who helped mould me into who I am today. I lost my vision, the vision of who I wanted to be and even more; I lost my voice, that same voice that ministered to thousands is the same voice that encouraged me to “keep going Roejan, I am proud of you”; I lost my confidant, when in doubt I always sought your wise counsel because you are such a phenomenal woman; I lost apart of me, I feel lost, without identity because I saw so much of myself in you. I lost my sister - mother you may be but when it came to fashion and giving sassy comebacks there was no stopping with you (I’ve been meaning to give you back your necklace); I lost a Pastor, boy when it came to principle and standards chilllllleeee you made sure that was deeply entrenched in me; I lost my friend, my ally, my supporter, my advisor, and my joy. Your strength amazes me, you fought a battle that many fell short to, in a couple of months. You fought to the end and told death to wait so that your daughter could have her last moment with you. I drove speedily after I got the call from my weeping father. A normal seven or ten minute drive became a three minute drive. Poor Aunty Pam, who sat in the passenger seat, holding on to my chest then shoulder with one hand and using the other hand to maintain her balance as I personified the practises of a taxi man. Hyperventilating, thinking of all that could be happening at the hospital while driving; drove through the entrance found the nearest parking, jumped out of the vehicle, sped walked to Ward 3 and there she was. As dad used the wall to support his feeble

16 Celebrating A Life Well Lived

structure that was riddled with heartbreak, I ran to her side, held her hand and lifted her chest to connect with mine in a warm embrace as she so graciously gave me her last breath. I stood there in disbelief. Frantically checking her vitals and nothing….So desperately hoping it was a technological glitch but nothing. Tears blinded me, incapable of seeing, just feeling, pinning for one more conversation with her, lifting her hands and feet, hoping for a response and nothing. When did it hit me that she transitioned? I ask myself this question to this day. Are you really gone mom? I love you with everything that I am. Your selfless acts of kindness, your intuitive advice, your love for family. What a loving being you were. I grapple with the Lord in His decision to take you home at this point in my life. A time where I believe I need you most. How could this happen when I promised to take care of you and dad when I establish myself into the things I avidly pursue? I prayed and asked God to allow you to live to witness the very things we spoke about in your last days, so you could see the woman you helped raise and to benefit from all the good in my life. I told God that I would do specific things to ensure He fulfils said wishes. I held up my end of the bargain, but it seems like I was only bargaining with myself, because God took you despite my desperate plea. For my sanity, I tell myself that you are in a better place than we are. That you no longer have to go through any tests, take any more medications, endure through the pain and overall symptoms of that deadly disease. I find solace in knowing that you are resting and that you are resting in Him. My heart aches knowing that I will never feel your motherly love in the natural but I long for the day we meet again. To the woman I adore with every single part of my being; you were and always will be of Premium quality – The Gold Standard. Thank you for loving me through it all Love, Your one and only daughter Roejan Allen

EMMANUEL APOSTOLIC CHURCH “Death is not the worst loss in life. The worst loss is what dies inside of us while we are still alive.” Though we are still reeling from the shocking death of Pastor Janet Allen, my wife and I are humbled and touched by her time on earth with us. She and her husband, Overseer Munroe Allen, spent several years with us at EAC. We’d known her from her LPT (Linstead Pentecostal Tabernacle) days, where she was groomed as a vibrant and talented young member. We’ll never forget how she built upon that solid foundation gained through Bishop Frank Otto’s leadership at LPT and steadily blossomed into a very effective leader at EAC Portmore. There was no reservation in appointing her to serve as our Youth Director, and when I saw the gift of preaching on her, I began having conversations with her about preparations to release her into her calling. I cannot say we were pleasantly surprised when we heard her deliver her first Sunday message in Portmore. Oh, was it pleasant? Yes, but was it surprising? No, not in the least. Her young, vivacious spirit and brilliant mind, coupled with her strong anointing exploded in the house that day. Everyone was blessed. And the rest is simply history. Sister Janet subsequently was ordained as an Evangelist. She made such a huge impact on so many lives at EAC as a Sunday Academy teacher, youth director, praise leader, and involvement in other ministries. Sister Janet, as EAC called her, was loved by the Emmanuel family. Her passion for GOD and His work was unquestionable. She influenced many from the pulpit to the pews, especially the young people in our church. What an influencer she was! Talk about someone who gave the right word at the right time... talk about someone who could bring the back-bencher to the

altar, to change and transformation in a second... that was Sister Janet! She, like the prophet Jeremiah, had the fire of GOD within her bones and allowed nothing to stand in the way of the call of GOD upon her life. She has left a shining example of the Christian leader who gave her all and who has left persons behind who are fully empowered to continue the work she started. Janet loved her family and stood by them. She fiercely covered them in love and guided them with prayer. Personally, my wife and Janet bonded in a special kindred spirit. Together, they enjoyed working in ministry as they brainstormed creative ideas that would specifically appeal to the young. I had the pleasure of participating in a successful overseas expedition to Disney that was coordinated by my wife and Sister Janet. In 2002, she was part of the delegation we led to PIP (Pentecost in Perspective), a leadership conference organized by the late Bishop Norman L. Wagner in Ohio, USA. Our children Bandon and Tiffany enjoyed a wonderful childhood friendship with Roejan, and these are just a few of the fondest memories that will never go away. The unexpected twists and turns of life and ministry plus her new role as pastor reduced our fellowship significantly. However, in recent times, we reconnected in a special way and were looking forward to spending more time together, but God had other plans, so we won’t put a question mark where God put a period. To Overseer Munroe, Roejan, beloved Sarai, Mother Bennett, and the entire family, we offer our deepest condolences and assure you of our continued prayers and support during this season and the next. “Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.”

Janet Elaine Allen 17

Pastor Janet BennettAllen was born in Linstead, St. Catherine to Archibald and Shirley Bennett and was brought up in the Linstead Pentecostal tabernacle where she gave her life to the Lord. I remember burying her in baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus at the tender age of (8) eight years old and seeing the scripture fulfilled as not many days after she received the gift of the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues and calling on the name of the Lord. From a very early age, it was clear that Janet had ministries wrapped up in her. She actively participated in several ministries at the Linstead Pentecostal Tabernacle. Her parents who were ministers in the church brought her up in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Janet was a proper child who was wise beyond her years. She was an ardent Sunday school student, a youth committee member, and for many years as an anointed lead singer of the choir. Her gift of singing was unmatched and we felt that her mom Shirley passed that gift of singing to her. Janet possessed and displayed strong leadership skills and was always opinionated. One couldn’t help but listen to her soft but strong voice as she uttered her views with passion coupled with an engaging smile. As her pastor, I take pride in the opportunity given to me to be the priest of the entire family of seven. Mrs. Allen was special in that she was the only girl in the family that was under my care. Needless to say, she got the royal treatment at home and at church. After graduating from university, Janet spent a few more years serving in the ministry in Linstead. She was later wooed by the love of her life, brother Monroe Allen who became her husband. Together they produced a beautiful daughter, Roejan and the family worshiped

at the Emanuel Apostolic Church in Portmore, where she and her husband gave support to the leader, Bishop Everton Thomas. In time, with the call of God on their lives, they founded a ministry and began to impact lives both nationally and internationally. Pastor Allen became one of the most dynamic and sought-after preachers on the circuit. When she combined her ministry of singing with that of her preaching, she was a blessing to all who sat under her ministry. This was a woman of prayer and action. She believed in having an encounter with her Lord and saviour. This was evident in the summits, conferences that she facilitated to help to usher others into the presence of God. I can still hear Janet singing the song, “Heaven for me” If its walls were not jasper and its streets were not gold, If mansions would crumble and if folks still grew old, Still, I’d see everything I am longing to see Where Jesus is will be heaven for me. She is gone, much too soon at the tender age of 55, but God has a better place for her. This is a promotion that takes you away from the pains, from cancer and from heartache. You are in peace with her maker. Go ahead my child and sing sweet melodies with the angels. Soon you shall rise from your slumbering place and see your saviour face to face. Behold, I shew you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (1Cor.15:51-52) May the God of all comfort, comfort her husband, daughter, granddaughter, her extended family and indeed her congregation in such a way that they will be able to comfort others.

I can’t recall a time in my life when I didn’t know Janet. She was only a few years older than I was. By the time I was born, she was already a staple in our local church, the Linstead Pentecostal Tabernacle, where my parents were pastors, and hers were faithful ministers. Indeed, the late Deacon Bennett and his dear wife Missionary Bennett were anchors in our church and community and loved on my siblings and me as if we were their own children at times. From the time I was a young child, I started to see Janet performing in several stages. First, at home at our home church, and then eventually at many other churches and events. As a young girl in the audience, I would watch in awe as she sang and acted. Even from then, she knew how to command the attention of the audience with her big smile, confident tone, and angelic voice. One of my earliest memory of her was her performing at what must have been a local festival competition at St. Catherine High. I clearly recall, hair in pigtails and baby blue ribbons. She was a sight to behold, and of course, she nailed it! For my siblings and me, Janet was not just a church sister, she was a part of our family. She spent many weekends and at our home, and even came on family vacations to the North Coast with us. My sister, Tammy recently reminded me of one such summer. We took a family trip to a hotel in Ocho Rios, and as usual, my parents brought her along, as she was one of few people they trusted us with. Well, on that particular trip, our baby brother, Frankie, who had not yet learned how to swim, unwittingly jumped into the deep end of the pool. He immediately began to sink and started flapping his arms helplessly every time he could manage to get his head above water long enough to gasp for air. Janet, literally saved his life, as she jumped into the pool, fully clad, and rescued him. She was that kind of person. She would do what was necessary to save someone. A trait we would later see further manifested in her pastoral mission to reach those who are broken, spiritually drowning. What a privilege to have watched Janet bloom. From a bright, outspoken young girl, to a wife, mother, pastor, and grandmother. Admired by many. Loved by all who had the privilege to know her. Janet, you will forever be in our hearts. You are “gone too soon”, as they say, but I take comfort in the fact that you are in a better place. Remember that song you used to sing … “We shall behold Him?” Well … I know without a doubt that you are now singing for Jesus “face to face in all of His glory.” I can’t wait to hear you sing again, in the sweet by and by.

On behalf of our Family, the Church Family, Bishop Lee H. Wal.sh and Lady Deserine V. Walsh we offer this tribute in celebrating the life of our friend Pastor Janet Allen. It is in cherishing the legacy of Pastor Janet Allen, a phenomenal gift to the Body of Christ, a woman of Grace and vision, that we stand to support and encourage Overseer Munroe, Roejan and the family by acknowledging the Word of God in Psalm 48:14 which states, “For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.” There is no greater consolation than to know that Janet is where GOD is. We have shared unforgettable moments with Janet. Whether in a Church service or on social occasions Pastor Janet’s warmth and sweet sincere spirit always made it enjoyable and memorable. It has been a joy to witness, experience, and watch her ministry grow and blossom. The evident passion with which she served has undoubtedly left a trail of anointing for so many to emulate; she was and is indeed a wonderful role model and example. Celebrating, our friend, the glowing radiant spirit, brilliant mind and distinguished person known in the Kingdom as Pastor Janet Allen, will continue for eons. Her effervescent charm, smile, vibrant and bold attitude is indelibly engraved in our hearts. For certain, In the records of Heaven another name has been added to the directory alongside the renowned women and men who have preceded her. Pastor Janet will forever by loved and appreciated. We are therefore comforted by the affirmation of The Apostle Paul who thus reminds us in 1 Cor.5:8, ”… to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” With this is blessed hope of dwelling in the Eternal Presence of God, we honor our friend and say Rest Well we will meet again someday. “Parting is such sweet sorrow” (William Shakespeare). If there is one word that can describe Pastor Janet Allen that one word is “Jewel”. She is Jewel indeed. Pastor Janet Allen was a woman of God who demonstrated the highest level of character and integrity both in her personal life and ministry. She was a leader, role model, mother, wife, and a woman of virtue. Pastor J as I call her had the heart of Jesus, loving, kind and caring. She lived this at home and abroad. I observed her journey for more than ten years as she grew and matured as a spiritual leader. She was passionate about the calling of God on her life and shared with me the downside and upside of her journey. I became one of those women she identified with and could easily share her stories. From the outset she was determined to succeed, intellectually and spiritually. It’s hard for me to write in the past tense because she is not the “past”. She encapsulates the future. She is the kind of person that I pray the women I mentor would become. My heart is broken, but I am assured in that I can continue aspects of Janet’ journey in my own life. She is leaving a legacy to the world not only in the books she wrote, but in her mannerisms, speech, preaching, singing, living and more. We love you Pastor Janet. You live on in all those you impacted positively along the way. Your Friend and Partner in Christ. Bishop Joan E. Whittaker

22 Celebrating A Life Well Lived

THE DEATH OF THE BELIEVER IS NOT FINAL Classy, the consummate professional, straightforward, committed, dynamic preacher, lover of Christ are some of the words I would use to describe this former God’s general. During my tenure at the Citizen Security and Justice Programme, I met Pastor Janet Allen who served as Special Projects Manager, Workplace and Community at the Jamaica Foundation for Lifelong Learning now HEART/ NSTA Trust. Pastor Allen was always professional, dedicated and ensured that all projects under her watch were successfully executed regardless of the challenges encountered. Her attention to details, passion for excellence and a desire to see purpose fulfilled were incomparable. In 2019, Encounter Ministries International was contracted by the Citizen Security and Justice Programme to deliver pre-vocational training to at-risk youth from several volatile and vulnerable communities. The participants had the utmost respect for Pastor Allen, many attested that she was caring, always encouraging, willing to listen and not to mention a ‘fashionista’. The Project was successfully executed and today several of the youngsters are now productive members of the labour market. Even in the midst of illness her faith never waivered she remained as bold as a lion. I am reminded of a conversation we had where she declared “I am trusting God for ultimate healing and restoration proven by clinical evidence.” At the end of which I declared, “Amen sis praying for you, every trial has an expiration date yours is coming.” With all my heart I believed she would have been physically restored but God had another plan- He was ready for His general to come home. Pastor Allen fought a good fight, finished her course and certainly kept the faith and has now inherited her crown of righteousness. Even though my heart is sad as I pen this tribute, I hold firm to the fact that the death of the believer is not final and Revelation 14 vs 13 -…Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. I extend sincerest condolences to Rev. Allen, Roejan and the rest of the family. Sleep in heavenly peace, Pastor Janet Allen.

I have interacted with Janet in a professional capacity in excess of three (3) years. Janet worked at the Jamaica Foundation for Lifelong Learning (JFLL) as a Special Projects Manager, with responsibility for coordinating, and overseeing the design and delivery of basic education programmes for adult learners. When JFLL merged with the HEART NSTA Trust in 2017 she came over with that portfolio of responsibilities. I found Janet to be very passionate about her responsibilities and committed to her work. She cared for the participants with whom she interacted in the workplaces and communities with a heart of gold and went out of her way to nurture and work with a diverse team of stakeholders and partners to ensure that their needs for basic adult education were met. She often interacted with the learners directly to address their needs. Janet’s efforts resulted in the Japanese embassy being responsible for providing funding to expand the building infrastructure for adult education at East Street in Kingston. She was also instrumental in brokering partnerships for the International Literacy Day breakfast in 2016, a signature event that has helped to remove the stigma and rebrand basic adult education. At this breakfast, Janet had one of her adult learners read. He was only able to start reading after participating in one of her community programmes. She was very keen on having community graduations because she saw this as a way of celebrating the achievements of the people she served and to whom she dedicated her efforts to getting them to read. When obstacles arise in the implementation of programmes, she would personally go to the source to address the issues. She preserved in addressing the challenges and this often meant avoiding phone calls and emails and having face to face discussions. Janet was very knowledgeable about the adult learning portfolio and would often contribute meaningful perspectives in meetings. You could always count on her to share an insightful perspective. I remember in one meeting a Senior Director expressed how useful she found Janet’s perspective. She would not hesitate to share her knowledge and experience and this helped in making solid decisions. Janet demonstrated integrity in how she lived her life. She was true and did not hesitate to bring her honest perspective to an issue, even though it may not have been a popular view. She was one to act on her convictions. She gave much to articulating and elevating basic adult education. She helped in removing the stigma and rebranding it as the vehicle through which many adults could have hope and transform their lives. Janet was warm and approachable. When I met her, it seemed as if I knew her forever. She was generous in sharing her faith and when she gave me one of her books as a gift, I promised I would read it over a cup of tea. She shared her faith, and we often promised each other we would have an early morning breakfast. Of course, you could not have a conversation and Janet did not mention her husband Munroe. She was so besotted with him and made it clear that whatever dreams he conceived, she would be there to support him in having it achieved. I knew Munroe well from our conversations before I met him. As I interacted with her during the time she was ill, I was often uplifted by her faith and her optimism. She looked the

illness in its face and knowing she was armed with God’s armour and strength she fought until He said come. She will be remembered for her relationship with God, her service to basic adult education, her service to others, her dedication to duty, her authenticity, her ability to persevere in times of suffering and her love of fashion. These poems capture how I now console myself about Janet being no longer with us: ‘I choose to hold you in my dreams for in my dreams you have no end.’ (Rumi) There is no night without a dawning No winter without a spring And beyond the dark horizon Our hearts will once more sing For those who leave us for a while Have only gone away Out of a restless, care worn world Into a brighter day Rest in peace Janet and may light perpetual shine on you.

“We only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” Mae West We have been associated with Janet since 2013 when she joined the team at the Jamaican Foundation for Lifelong Learning (JFLL). As Special Projects Manager, she was responsible for the overall management and implementation of all of the projects throughout the (JFLL) in addition to establishing sustainable partnership with stakeholders. Janet was a strategist and a visionary, with a brilliant, innovative and creative mind. These traits coupled with her knowledge, expertise and skills, enabled her to not only develop, but also transformed the Workplace and Community Unit to that of a state of the art Special Projects Division. Janet was deeply passionate about improving the lives of the learners through the various learning interventions and would, along with her team, travel island wide to ensure that the teaching centers were suitably equipped to deliver optimally. Graduation ceremonies were held with such grandeur befitting the accomplishments of the learners. Janet led her team in a manner that exemplified leadership and gave unwavering energy and commitment; she willingly shared ideas and information that inspired the staff to ensure that Division achieved the highest level of excellence. In the words of Edward Everett Hale, “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” The sentiments expressed here are affirmed by performance, having consistently demonstrated skills far beyond established standards, and exceeded expectations with exceptional performance, evidenced by the following excerpts from her performance reviews: “She has been consistent in achieving the strategic objectives set by the organization and at times surpasses output levels in the execution of her duties within a dynamic environment.” “The employee is adept in the knowledge of the task assigned and utilizes her knowledge effectively to advance the overall objectives of the organization.” “The employee interacts in a cordial and professional manner with teams at varying levels and cooperates when decisions are arrived at in the interest of the organization.” Our sorrow is lessened only with the comforting thought that we had the privilege to have worked alongside her. So here we are today to mourn our loss, but I can just hear her speaking to us instead through this poem titled; I’ll be waiting for you.

26 Celebrating A Life Well Lived

I’ll Be Waiting for You Although your heart may be broken, There’s no need to weep for me. I’m in a wonderful place now, Where I’m happy and so carefree. I had to go, but I’ve left behind Good memories to comfort you. Concentrate on the best times we had, And try not to feel so blue. For one day we’ll be together again, To laugh and sing and play. You’ll be so glad to see me again, It will seem I was gone just one day. So try to lift up your heads now, And dare to set grief aside, Because I’ll be waiting here for you, To welcome you to the other side. Thank you Janet for your contribution, your friendliness, charm. You were a splendid person with a big heart. Walk good, rest well.

The Indelible Effervescent Leader Extraordinaire Janet Elaine Bennett Allen

The mantra of William Shakespeare: ‘All of the world is a stage, and the men and women merely players: they have their exits and entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts. His acts being seven stages’, articulates your life well.

• • • • •

Only now we understand that you were an angel on His Stage, with a time-bound mission of just 55 years. Fifty five years, which has: Positively impacted many lives Created smiles and colours Healed the hurting Inspired the young to be their best selves Imparted with urgency the need for people to be born again, to gain eternal life

Inspite of your achievements, Janet, you have still left us to echo Michael Jackson’s lyrics: ‘Gone Too Soon’: ‘Like a comet blazing across the evening sky…..gone too soon’. Like the loss of sunlight on a cloudy afternoon….gone too soon Born to amuse, to inspire, to delight, here one day gone one night. Thanks for touching our lives in so many indelible ways. So long, songbird, leader extraordinaire, good neighbour, and remarkable friend. See you on that ‘Great getting up morning’. You will remain forever in our hearts: Samuel, Faith Marie, Sammaree Collins and Grace-Ann Collins Thomas (Goddaughter)

28 Celebrating A Life Well Lived

It is with mixed feelings that I write this tribute on behalf of the Abundant Life Born Again Church (ALBAC) Family. Truth be told, we were totally devastated upon learning of the passing of our dear Pastor Janet Allen. Every summer, for almost 10 years, ALBAC would be graced by Pastor Janet’s presence, along with her husband, Overseer Munroe Allen and their daughter, Roejan Allen (my brother and niece). They would make the sacrifice to attend ALBAC’s special event which coincided with their wedding anniversary. Pastor Janet was more than a guest speaker at our Annual Restoration Conference. She was a sister to some and aunty to the rest of younger members. Lady Jan (as affectionately called) was a power house uniquely packed in a little short of 5 feet of linear stature. She delivered her messages with the end result of advancing the Kingdom of Yahweh at the expense of exposing and damaging Satan’s system. As soon as lady Jan assumed the platform for ministering, she would begin with the high praise of Yahweh in her mouth (Psalm 149:6), and then strategically declared her assignment as she fearlessly wielded the two edged Sword of the Word of God, penetrating even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; judging the thoughts and attitudes of the hearts of her listeners, cutting asunder any element of evil and destruction that may present themselves in her domain. Very often as she ministered, she would call upon the help of the Holy Ghost to shift the atmosphere and make it conducive for the move of the Spirit of God to affect people’s lives. Many souls were born again or restored from such ministering in ALBAC, Atlanta, Georgia. The following comments serve as testimony to the life and ministry of Pastor Jan in Georgia: “An anointed woman of God who was a powerful preacher and worshipper”. - Elder Velda Wanliss I loved her fire, her attitude and her preaching. She was an inspiration to me” - Mother Doret Millen

“She took charge not only in the natural, but in the spiritual realm as well. I admired her level of authority” – Missy. Fay Lindo “ Pastor Janet Allen – a woman of God who served the Lord intentionally and unapologetically. Her soul is resting in peace” - Missy. lurraine Blagrove “We always admired Aunty Janet’s high energy. She somehow always lit up a room when she entered. From her fashion statements, powerful messages, anointed vocals, to her warm hugs and kisses. We always looked forward to seeing her in Georgia or Jamaica. If you look up the definition of a Real Christian Warrior, you would find Aunty Janet’s name there. She was never afraid to let the enemy know that “Satan, you are under pressure!” You could always depend on her for a good laugh and an encouraging word with each conversation. - The Reynolds’ family – Dean, Jodi, Kerine, Jalissa, Faith, Madison and Andrew. “ Pastor Janet was a wonderful person and a real stalwart for God. She impacted my life within the short time I got to know her” - Sis. Helen Rodney

It would appear as if we have been mocked and taunted by death who has seemingly robbed us of Pastor Jan’s life leaving some sorrowful, angry, perturbed, concerned, disappointed, embarrassed and with a whole host of negative emotions. But the painstaking question and reality of her longevity is soon put to rest when you consider the magnitude of the life changing impact that she had on people’s lives – globally. It is therefore in order to conclude that by virtue of the many witnesses, that Pastor Janet had lived a full life as measured by quality versus quantity. In addition, Paul in his letter recorded in 1 Thess 4:13-14 admonishes us not to grieve as those without hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those ( such as Pastor Janet) who have fallen asleep in Him.…

We are confident, that Pastor Janet being absent from the body, is present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Overseer Roel Williams/Pastor Marie Williams

Pastor Janet Allen the Impactful I write with much reticence, object reluctance, and outright resistance to this call of duty. In acceptance of the reality of the overarching right of Divinity in setting the bounds of our arrival and departure, I bow in compliance. Our church, Solid Rock United located in the City of Oviedo (Metro Orlando), Florida has been a beneficiary of Lady Janet’s ministry as she has ministered for us annually for the past several years. We were always excited to have her, and overseer Munroe Allen minister to us. I truly was wedded to the idea of her coming again to minister. I confess an initial unwillingness to accept the span of time allowed to Lady Janet Allen. Then I acknowledge that I have no right to question the good plans of our Eternal Father. It is too much of an audacious pursuit for me to engage in discourse with him in this matter. So, I conceded and accepted his will as well as acknowledged my place. I now understand that she has made the impact that the Eternal Father meant for her. We conclude then that it is not just how much time we spend here, but rather what we do and accomplish with the time. Pastor Janet is her father’s daughter and I submit to you that her years and time spent on earth were indeed one of hell-shaking and demon-chasing impact. She lifted the name of the highest and drew men and women unto him and into the kingdom. Pastor Janet touched and transformed lives on a global scale. Her teaching style captivated the ordinary as well as the intellectual elite. Her dynamic delivery of the word elevated our souls to heavenly places, put our hearts to flight, and caused our spirits to dance. Her incisive and anointed teaching sessions drove us to our knees in repentance and allowed us to rise to walk in strength, confidence, and power with God. We cannot forget how often during her preaching when the holy spirit got burning hot her heels came off her feet and God’s words came through from a barefooted preaching firebrand. One church member stated she has made the impact on the world that God intended for her. Another member in recounting how impactful her meeting with pastor Janet was, said that she could not “believe that such a great woman of God would take the time to sit and talk with me after she finished preaching.” It left an indelible mark on her life as Pastor Janet had encouraged her to live for God and be found in her place in the church. The members of Solid Rock United Church are in mourning because of that deep connection of ministry, our bonds of love, and reconciliation of their souls to God that was brought about by Pastor Janet’s Ministry. Though small in stature she was a giant beacon of inspiration and hope to those lives she touched. Pastor Janet Allen walked among men, wrestled with angels, walked with God, and is not because God took her.

30 Celebrating A Life Well Lived

Good friends are like stars. You don’t always see them, but you know they are there. It was in my 3rd year at Dinthill that a saw a girl confidently smiling and immediately I saw a friendship that would last forever. In class she began to demonstrate her smartness, kindness, and jovial personality. Early in our year we had already determined that Janet wanted to be a nurse and I wanted to be a pharmacist, none of which became a reality. By the end of the 3rd form, Janet changed my name to “Buffy” after our teacher’s daughter, because she thought that I looked like her. After high school, we ventured out into different areas, only to end up in the same college, CAST. Walking into the classroom on the first day, I heard the familiar voice, “Buffy you de yah to” I looked and there was Janet smiling. We went through our three years of studies and again we thought that was it. In February of 1989, I got a strange call. Janet again. “Buffy you working?” I am at a new school in Mavis Bank and I have a job for you.” “Where am I going to stay?” I asked her. Without hesitation, she replied. “I have a studio so we can share’ I immediately resigned my job, packed up and joined Janet, sharing the one twin bed. We were no longer friends, but now sisters cooking, taking walks together, and planning our future, even our children. Rojan, you were named even before your father proposed. Janet left Mavis Bank for greener pastures in Kinston, but we stayed in touch. As the demands of adulthood became more challenging, our friendship waned, but now and again we would make connections. In June of 2020, I had an urge to see Janet, so I traveled from N.Y. to worship with her in Kingston. My effort to contact her was unsuccessful. I was persistent until her husband answered and he told me of her illness. I visited her and again heard the familiar sound, “Buffy”, with tears in her eyes. This time I made sure I kept in touch with her until that fateful day. Janet, I know that it will not be here on earth, but I am doing all I can because I need to hear you in heaven say, “Buffy, you deh ya to?” Love you my sista, walk good until we meet again on that Beautiful Shore. Forever in my heart. Buffy.

We were blessed to have had you as our neighbour. “A TRUE NEIGHBOUR” PRECIOUS AND RARE. We will forever cherish in our memories the joy and pleasure of the time God allowed you to be with us. May the life you lived be an inspiration and give strength to the family you have left behind. Like a comet blazing in the sky “JANET”. GONE TOO SOON. The James Family.

Janet Elaine Allen 31

Pastor Janet Allen holds a special place in the hearts of the James’ family in Miami, Florida. She has made tremendous sacrifices on several occasions by leaving her own family, her work and church obligations in Jamaica to minister in our assembly. Pastor Allen had been a guest in a home on many occasions over the past ten years and we certainly enjoyed her presence. She has never said no whenever she received the call to come to us. The bond and friendship and fellowship continued to grow over the years as we met not only Florida but also in Georgia and in her own assembly in Jamaica. She was a wonderful preacher with boldness and confidence and was able to declare the hidden mysteries of God in a systematic way that even the unlearned could understand. She has departed from us, but she will never be forgotten. She will continue to live on in our hearts. Presiding Bishop Dafton C. James

Pastor Janet Allen was known for her effervescent smile, her beauty, her charm and her anointing. She had a unique way of teaching and preaching God’s word, par none. She was a natural at public speaking; eloquent and versatile with both the Queen’s English and the vernacular. As much as she testified that she ran from the call to ministry on her life; I really don’t think she could hide. With all that God downloaded in her, singing, preaching and teaching, this kingdom fireball just could not hide. She was so fun to be around! Talk ‘bout church after party! Talk ‘bout church comedian! Talk about die hard Daniellite! She Big up BLUE house every time! That’s our Pastor; she run wid we, skip wid we, she just loved young people and we admire that about her. Thank you for submitting and answering God’s call. Well done Pastor Janet Allen. Kingdom salute from EMI MEDIA TEAM

She encapsulated the true meaning of all rounded Woman Extraordinaire. Singer, Teacher, Preacher, Wife, Mother, Pastor, and the list goes on. WowMan!! Her charisma, charm and energetic vibes lightened the room from every heavy cloud of darkness that was present. Her anointed singing and preaching pierced every thick smoke of demonic presence and transformed the life of the hearer. Her ability to communicate with anyone was a major attribute of our beloved Pastor. The level of discernment that she possessed was as if she knew and could speak directly to the issues that many were facing. Yet with this downloaded information she maintained her integrity and handled every situation with heavenly grace. Her love for her husband and family was one to look on and emulate – a true virtuous woman. The many lives she impacted is too numerous to mention but all can attest that they have been touched in some way or the other. Her rapport with young people was exceptional as she was herself a youth. Youthful smile, petite and her apparel was always fashionable and modest. She knew the ins and out and was always trendy with the latest happenings of the millennial. Revolutionary leadership described the way she led the Youth Ministry, E.M.I. and all she was steward over. Her innovative and divinely inspired ideas and initiatives saw exceptional results. The Holy Spirit lived and moved through her so much that she was the glue that held everything together. Not just any type of glue but glitter glue. The kind that sparkled in the darkness and shun bright that all saw her good work and glorified the Father. The kind that everything she touched left a little sparkle of gold. I know her legacy will live on in every soul that she came across, particularly all the young people that stood under her leadership. She will be greatly missed but our consolation is found in the scriptures 2nd Timothy 4:8, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” and 1st Thessalonians 4:1617, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” Minister Jerron and Minister Jody-Ann Spence - Directors Audio-Visual Department and Youth Encounter Service (Y.E.S. Janet Elaine Allen 33

Pastor Janet Allen is a resilient, purposeful woman of God who articulated the Word of God with confidence, poise and style. Pastor Jan or Lady Jan as we affectionately referred to her impacted lives in many ways: a warm, open and embracing personality, yet able to be firm when required. She had a very soft spot in her heart for our youth and children and found many ways to minister to them, bridging the generational gap whilst challenging them to a deeper relationship with God. Pastor Jan was a visionary who carried a spirit of excellence in all she did and consequently, demanded excellence from those who were around her. Her constant drive for excellence caused the EMI leaders and by extension the EMI family to constantly raise the bar of their performance. Although pushing for excellence, she was a good coach who was able to identify with. encourage and motivate those whom she lead to deliver their best performances. Pastor Jan has fought a good fight, she has finished her course and has kept the faith henceforth is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give on that day. A life well lived, purpose fulfilled a light the shone brightly locally, nationally and internationally. Sleep on beloved, your rest is well deserved. Gladstone & Andrelene Johnson Associate Pastor and Prayer Coordinator Encounter Ministries International

A fervent servant of God, stimulating teacher, inspiring leader, bold mentor, strong warrior, passionate singer and impactful praise and worship leader. Lady Janet Allen was a woman who encompassed everything that one can hope to be. Her reach to young people was far and wide, remembering the minority and impacting the majority. On a personal note, she was most charismatic in conversations and very protective of who she deemed to be family. As we remember this powerful lady, we know that her legacy lives on the countless lives that she has impacted. Take good rest Lady Jan, till we meet again. Family

We celebrate the memory of a daughter, a sister, a step-sister, a cousin, a friend, a wife, a mother, a Pastor, a Counsellor and an exemplary woman of God, Janet Allen. We acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that her life was to us and the pain that her passing brings. Janet was only 55 when she passed away somewhat unexpectedly on Monday, December 20, 2021 at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kinston, Jamaica. We wish that we had more time, and perhaps that during the time we had, we had spent more of it together. We wish that so much of her last year had not been spent on her illness; That things could have been different for her and for us. While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are to an end, the pain and sadness remains. Reminiscing on the legacy of her love, affection, tenacity, endurance and perseverance. The ways she touched our lives will everlastingly remain. One of the most important things in Janet’s, “Jan-Jan’s”, “JB’s”, “VybzQueen’s” (names as she was affectionately called in various quarters) life was FAMILY; And this is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Family-oriented individuals are special people. It takes honour, character, graciousness, patience, respect, sincerity, calmness and love for all the different temperaments entrenched in the Family. She battled for one year with a devastating illness. Yet through it all, her love and care for her family, friends and those around her never wavered; In so many ways, she was able to show that love to us. This perseverance through adversity is a powerful lesson for us, and we believe it is once again, her legacy. What a wonderful lesson she gave us. May we recognise what is important, share in the joy and the pain together and through this process learn to alleviate the pain and remember clearly the joy. Live on in our hearts, Madam Glory Carrier Janet; Your destiny has been fulfilled as God’s Mouthpiece; In God’s glory, in the Heavenly city, take your place and rest in peace. Live on in our hearts, Janet...live on! 36 Celebrating A Life Well Lived
