HYMNS

BLESSED ASSURANCE Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight; angels descending bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest; I in my Savior am happy and blest, watching and waiting, looking above, filled with his goodness, lost in his love.

SWEET BY AND BY There’s a land that is fairer than day, And by faith we can see it afar; For the Father waits over the way To prepare us a dwelling place there.

We shall sing on that beautiful shore The melodious songs of the blest, And our spirits shall sorrow no more Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

Refrain In the sweet in the sweet By and by by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore; In the sweet in the sweet By and by by and by We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

To our bountiful father above We will offer our tribute of praise; For the glorious gift of His love And the blessings that hallow our days.

Joan Abigail Rowe, the fourth Child of Eric and Iris Muschette was born in Coopers Hill, St Andrew, Jamaica, on June 24, 1943. She attended Padmore Elementary School a few miles from home. After completing Elementary School, she was placed with a seamstress, a skill she had demonstrated an aptitude for, at an early age. Not long after she started, her instructor told her parents to cease paying the fees, because she had mastered the skills in such a short time. Joan was now confident that she could land a job in Kingston, and she did. She sewed children’s clothing for Hannah’s Department store, located on Kings Street, and on weekends she sewed for private patrons. During this time, she met and married Aston Rowe, and the union produced two children, O’neil and Amy. In 1968, Joan joined her husband in New York. There she enrolled in the Nursing Assistant program, at the same time sewing garments for many who had heard of her skill, and making the famous “Bush Jacket” Suits for her two boys, who had later joined her. On completion of the Nursing Assistant program, she worked in a hospital and a nursing home for several years where she rendered exceptional service. There in New York, she was baptized out of a company that would later become Solid Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church in Far Rock Away, where she was a faithful member. Every Sabbath afternoon, she and her two boys- Martin and O’neil, along with her sister, Annette, would go to the ‘Projects’ to knock on doors, hand out tracts, and invite residents to visit their church. In 1976, Joan again pulled up roots and came to Miami, where she joined the staff at Parkway Hospital (Now Jackson North) as a Nursing Assistant, and worked there for many years. Then when her genetic kidney disease started

to affect her health, and she could no longer work full-time, she did some hours with a Home Health Agency. In the same year (1976) she started to attend Mt. Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church, but did not transfer her membership. Then on purchasing a home near to Maranatha Seventh-Day Adventist Church she transferred her membership, where she immediately became active in the Community Service Department. Joan’s passion for service led her to the leadership position in the Community Service Department, and she quickly spearheaded an annual Thanksgiving Banquet for the Seniors and shut-ins. Under her leadership, the team made food baskets, which were handed out from the center or delivered at home. They also made hot meals for the homeless, which they took to a site under the bridge in downtown, Miami. They not only fed those folks, but handed out items of clothing, tracts and spoke to them about the Lord. Joan would spend hours making vegetarian patties to raise funds for our school- WAKJA. Many days she could have been seen hurriedly sewing Pathfinder uniforms to be worn on a trip out of town, or for special occasions. With her driving the church bus, the team would find members who were sick in Hospitals, Nursing Homes or home- bound. She wasn’t afraid to put on her water boots and go with Pastor Kirlew to cut, bundle, then deliver callaloo to stores in the area, as a project to raise funds for the church building, we now occupy. One of the highlights of her service was on the day after Hurricane Andrew, in the early morning she was seen on the streets around the church handing out blankets and inviting residents to come to the Community Center to get food. She was constantly seeking ways to better serve the Community, so she attended every Community Service workshop that was held in Orlando, and encouraged her team members to do so. She lived a full life of service, even taking the church van to a strip mall to hand out tracts and do blood pressure testing on some Sundays. On October 25, 2019, she was hospitalized after sustaining a massive stroke. For three months and five days we prayed for her recovery but on January 30, 2020 she succumbed to her illness. She is preceded in death by parents, husband and two younger sisters. She leaves behind to mourn her passing, three children- Martin, O’neil and Amy; sisters- Greta and Paulette; brothersFranklin and Derick; 5 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; grand nephews and grand nieces. May her soul rest in peace as she awaits the call from the Life Giver.
