THE LIFE OF KESSURT THOMAS MULLINGS
essurt Thomas Mullings was born May 13, 1934, in the District of Resourse in Manchester Parish, Jamaica. He was the third of seven children born to Hurbert and Naomi Mullings. He attended Grovetown Elementary School. At the age of 15, he told his father that he wanted to be a mechanic and was not interested in attending Clarendon College where his older brother Sustil was enrolled. This came as no surprise to his family as they saw glimpses of his talent, fixing and designing most of the push karts in the district. In the early 1950’s the family relocated to Monymusk in Clarendon where Kessurt’s dreams materialized. He was given an apprenticeship fixing tractors and other equipment at the Monymusk Sugar Factory. In was at the Monymusk Sugar Factory while test driving a tractor he had just fixed, that a young lady named Lucille Earle caught his attention. The two would court and Kessurt would marry Lucille, the love of his life on April 26, 1958. Kessurt and Lucille would go on to live in Lionel Town, Frome and eventually Moneague. Their union would produce two sons, Dennis and Raymond. Kessurt furthered his education by taking evening classes at CAST in Kingston and would later advance his technical skills on several stints training with Caterpillar tractors on the latest equipment in the United States. His advanced training made Kessurt more marketable and around 1960, he was offered a managerial position in the Tractor and Transport Department of Frome Sugar Estates in Westmoreland and he would later accept a better position with Reynolds Jamaica Mines, where he worked until its closing in 1984. Kessurt and Lucille immigrated to the United States in 1984 and would reside in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Kessurt worked at the Pine Crest Private School until 1988 where he retired and would pursue what would be his last career as a landlord, owning several properties. Kessurt was a man of unquestionable integrity. He made a point of duty to serve every community in which he lived and was selected as justice of the peace for the parish of St. Ann, Treasurer for The Villas of Floral Park, and was a part of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Kessurt was an active member of The Church of Atonement. Kessurt departed this world at peace on June 06, 2020, leaving his Wife: Lucille, Sons: Keith and Raymond, Grandsons: Damien, Dominique, and Raymond Jr., Granddaughters: Renique and Abigail, Great Grandson: Jayden, Sisters: Unice, Diane, Ianthie, Dalia, Eileen, and a host of family and friends.
