Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing And when you have reached the mountain top Then you shall begin to climb And when the earth shall claim your limbs Then shall you truly dance Kahlil Gibran

PRAYER FOR THE FAMILY RECESSIONAL HYMN
“I’ll Fly Away”
Great
IS THY FAITHFULNESS
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee, Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not, As Thou hast been,Thou forever wilt be.
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above; Join with all nature in manifold witness, To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Chorus Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
Chorus
Chorus
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own great presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.
Away
I’LL FLY
Some glad morning when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away; To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away). Chorus I’ll fly away, fly away, Oh Glory I’ll fly away; (in the morning) When I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away). When the shadows of this life have gone, I’ll fly away; Like a bird from prison bars has flown, I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away) Chorus
THE LORD’S MY
Shepherd,
I’LL NOT WANT
The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me down to lie In pastures green; He leadeth me The quiet waters by. My soul He doth restore again And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness, E’en for His own name’s sake. Yea, tho’ I walk in death’s dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For Thou art with me, and Thy rod And staff me comfort still. My table Thou hast furnished In presence of my foes; My head Thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows. Goodness and mercy, all my life, Shall surely follow me; And in God’s house forevermore My dwelling place shall be.

REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF
LYDIA BROWN (NEE WALTERS)
L
ydia Brown was born on September 5, 1918, in Ewarton, St. Catherine, Jamaica, to parents Emmanuel and Annie Walters. She was the fourteenth of sixteen children. As a child, she attended Ewarton Primary School. After leaving school she went to Kingston to seek a better life. While in Kingston, she lived with her eldest brother, Cyril Walters (also known as Uncle C). While living in Kingston, she was employed at the University of the West Indies, by a French Lecturer as a cook and pastry maker. She soon became known as one of the best cooks and pastry maker in Jamaica. Her talents took her to Scotland, England and France. While living abroad, she also worked as a pharmacy assistant with Mystry’s Pharmacy. While still living in England, Lydia married her longtime partner, Daniel Brown. The couple had a full and enjoyable life together. He has since predeceased her. Lydia was very hospitable; she entertained regularly in her home. Upon her guests’ arrival in her home, even before being seated, she would ask, “can I offer you a cup of tea or something to drink?” She was the type of person who always put others first. It was of utmost importance that those in her presence felt happy and comfortable. She gave little thought of her own comfort. She was an excellent home maker, and liked beautiful things. Her surroundings were neat and tidy, everything in its rightful place. She was an elegant dresser, always adorned in nice dresses, high heeled shoes, with hats and handbags to match.
After spending many years in Scotland and England, she returned to Jamaica, and eventually to Miami, where she spent her final years with her sister, Elexie and two nieces, Berdie and Evadney Douglas. She became ill, and was called home from this life on February, 7, 2018. She was ninety nine plus years. She is survived by one sister, Elexie (aunt Lally), three children, Carol (Michael), Audrey (Denzil), and George (Norma), seventeen grandchildren (Bert predeceased her), forty two great grand -children, nineteen great, great, grand- children, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends at home and abroad. Rest in peace, Auntie Lydia.
MEMORIES AND
Tributes
On her way to church she looked forward to seeing the Pratt Church; then exclaimed, “my schoolmate is Esther Pratt.” She said, “There is no money in my pocketbook and Pastor has to get his pay.” Someone asked her why and her reply was, “the Pastor can’t stand up there and talk, talk without getting paid.” When she made her bed in the mornings, you could bounce a coin on it. No one could sit on her bed unless given permission. She was an avid reader. She read everything. When travelling, she read every sign - big and small. Her eyes never missed anything. She enjoyed a good romance novel, confession magazines, the Reader’s Digest, and her favorite was the Bible, which she read daily. She enjoyed gardening, and when there was not enough land space she used widow boxes to plant herbs and flowers. She was very family oriented. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters. Together they watched their favorite television shows, such as, Matlock, Little House on the Prairie and Texas Ranger. They often had spirited conversations and laughter about the characters. Auntie was very appreciative of the smallest gestures. It was always followed by thank you and God bless you my child. Excerpt from one of the many letters she received from her French friends: “my dearest Lydia, all your friends sent their love and asked about you all the time. We think of you and miss you every time. We never forget all the kindness you showed us so many happy years.” Our fondest love to you.
Family BONDS Auntie, I love you so much, but Jesus loves you best! We thank God for giving you to us. It was a pleasant journey. We laughed a lot, and had many spirited conversations. I’m reminded of how you’d say, “I’m trying to” as I was helping you with your activities of daily living. My eyes would well up with tears that would eventually flow down my cheeks. I would say to you, auntie, I know you are trying, then give you a hug and kiss. Auntie, I’m miss hearing you say, “Jesus, I love you.” Your niece, Med.
Mommy, I love you and I miss you a whole lot. I’m sorry I could not spend more time with you because of my limited visa status. May perpetual light continue to shine on you. Your loving daughter, Audrey.
