From the Pastor’s Desk WELCOME TO MIAMI CONFERENCE 2013 After much praying and seeking the Lord, we arrived at the Theme: Apostolic Apologetics: Recovering and Maintaining the Acts 2:38 Church with subtitle: It’s Crunch time; Redeeming the time because the days are evil. We are still seeking God to reveal to us His purpose in dropping this topic in our spirit. This is a very appropriate subject for our exploration as we assess the happenings of the times in which we are living. God did not give us this topic to evoke the emotions of individuals, but rather to elicit a right response to the evil days in which we live. The Bible declares that we must overcome evil with good. Philosophically, “good” is relative and is contingent on the individual assessment of it, but our goodness is dependent upon the word of God and our relationship with the God of the word. As we come to this conclave to glean from the anointed spoken word, let us be assured that this is not an emotional issue. Emotions will be short-lived, but a connection in Christ coupled with a Rhema word can be everlasting. It is the holy presence of God that we seek in this meeting, and our prayer is that we will enter into His “presence.” We are accountable for every moment we spend on earth; redeem your time and use it wisely. While you are in this conclave, it is our hope that you will have a unique Holy Ghost – encounter. Thank you for attending.

CONCISE CHURCH HISTORY First United COJC (Apostolic) in Miami pre-dates most other apostolic churches within its fellowship. Church planting was a caveat of Bishop Sydney A. Dunn, so when the Lord gave him the idea of inaugurating the first church in South Florida it was little wonder that it went forth with the speed and alacrity he assigns to church projects. The genesis of the First United COJC Apostolic in South Florida took shape at a convocation in Toronto Canada. In a conversation between Bishop Sydney A. Dunn and Elder Charles C. Mullings, the idea of the church project in Miami was discussed. The commitment to this project went to the then Presiding Prelate of United COJC, the late Bishop Monroe R. Saunders, Sr. Shortly afterwards, Bishop Dunn, Overseer Durant Thompson, Overseer Leslie J. Barnes and Elder Charles Mullings journeyed to Miami, stayed at the Holiday Inn downtown and started the arduous task of finding a location to start the mission. Contact was made with one of the saints from England who was living in Miami Beach with her 4 children and the search started. A house was located in the North Miami area for Elder Mullings and his family and the arrangements were made for his relocation. It was in December 1977, that Elder Mullings, his wife and daughter started the journeyed by car from Baltimore, and on the January 1, 1978 they arrived in Miami and awaited the Mayflower truck with their belongings. Thus started the history of the church in South Florida. A few months later the first service was held in a rented facility on N.W. 7th Avenue. Our first Baptism occurred a few weeks after we started. The Duncan family came back to the Lord and their son Bro Dave, was the first candidate received baptism in Jesus Name, in the new church. The church stayed on 7th Avenue for approximately five years and grew to about 45 members. We were blessed with national
4
and international visitors. Bishop Monroe R. Saunders, Sr., Baltimore, Bishop Sydney A. Dunn, England, Bishop Leslie J. Barnes, New York; Elder Ernel Lawrence, Elder Izett Scott, Elder Lewis Payne, Baltimore, Elder Cleven Jones, Detroit Michigan, Elder Frank Kellier and Elder Ambrose Hines, Jamaica, Bishop Durant Thompson, Canada, and Bishop Gerald Edmonds, England were some of the notables. We had a few relocations but through it all we could see the hand of God guiding us as we kept the vibrancy of faith and reveled in the preached word of God; surrender was not an option. By the time we had purchased a building the congregation had grown to approximately 60 members. The church dedication brought some of our dearest friends to South Florida for the inaugural ceremonies. We were confident that God wanted this church in Miami. Many saints have been nurtured, watered, and fed by First United Church as they sojourned in the South Florida area. Some of these saints have gone on to start other ministries and are flourishing; to God be the Glory. We are grateful to Dr. G Oliver Barnes, Bishop Dafton James, Bishop Kendrick Peart, Pastor Carlton Smith, Pastor Ansel Drummond and their wives for their labor of love while they were a part of this ministry. Today, we have two branches of the church, one in North MiamiDade and the other in South Miami- Dade. To God be the glory, great things he has done. We have a determination to continue preaching and teaching the word of God and not to deviate from the Good Old Paths. There is a new light in our ministry; finally the idea of praying as the bedrock of the church is taking root. The path looks brighter, the arrow is pointing upwards, and we remain confident that He who started a good thing in us is able to finish the work until the day of the Lord. First United COJC (Apostolic) in Miami is here to stay and we will do everything the Holy Ghost certifies to have the freedom of the Spirit we need to pursue after the souls of men trapped in the quagmire of sin. Our goals are souls. Pray with us. 5
GREETINGS FROM EVANGELIST LADY GLORIA C. MULLINGS FIRST LADY Greetings in the precious name of Jesus! Grace be unto you, and peace from our Lord Jesus Christ. It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 4th Annual Conference of the First United Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic). An innumerable company of angels awaits you. Our theme this year: “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil” is a very timely one. We see many of the signs of this evil-day unfolding before us, and we have no doubt that the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is imminent. To redeem the time means to “make the most of our time”, and to use our time wisely. The word time does not only refer to seconds, minutes, hours or days, but also it refers to the time of our life. As we consider the temporary state of our human existence, let us be mindful of our limited days on this earth. We must make the most of every moment God has given us and use the rest of our lives for His glory. Let us not waste our time; make it count for the kingdom. “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” Ecclesiastes 9:10. KJV Until He comes, I remain… Sincerely yours in Christ,
Gloria C. Mullings
Lady Gloria C. Mullings Assoc. Pastor 6
GREETINGS, DIOCESAN BISHOP Congratulations and Apostolic greetings to Bishop Mullings, Lady Mullings, and the saints of First United Church (Apostolic) in Miami, Florida. It is a joy to salute you on this the 4th conference on oneness apostolic apologetics, calling our attention to contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints. Your sub theme: “Redeeming the time because the days are evil is good because we must be conscious of how we spend our time, since we are kingdom dwellers, we are not our own. The time that is allotted to us by divine providence is to be used to the glory of God and not on our own pleasures. The kingdom of our God is a vast domain, and the time of our lease are not enough to explore all the adoring wonders that it brings On the other side are all the allurements of this world seeking to engage us and consume valuable time that is to be spent with God. Let us, therefore, put away the unfruitful works of darkness and focus our attention on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. It is my hope that this conference will be spiritually charged so that people will get the Holy Ghost, and others will be revived from dead works. We will continue to pray that this meeting will be a spiritual feast for all those who attend. The blessings of the Lord are with you. Bishop Leslie J. Barnes, Diocesan 3rd Episcopal Diocese - United COJC (Apostolic) Brooklyn, New York

WHAT IS APOLOGETICS? The term apologetics is derived from the classic Greek word apologia which means “speaking in defense.” It is the discipline of defending a position (often religious), through systematic use of information. To deliver an apologia means: making a formal declaration giving an explanation to rebut charges made. The defense of Socrates against the charge of corrupting the youth and not believing in the gods, whom the city accepts as deity, is a primary example. Apologetics is employed in various religions: Christian, Mormonism, Islam, etc., to defend their faith against cross-attacks from each other. This term is now narrowed to the Oneness Apostolic Faith that is often marginalized or dismissed as a cult and is given no status in orthodox Christianity. This classical Greek term appears in the Greek New Testament from which the New Testament in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible was translated. The Apostle Paul employs the term apologia in his trial speech to Festus and Agrippa when he says “I make my defense,” in Acts 26:2. This term also appears in Paul’s letter to the Philippians as he is “defending the gospel” and in 1st Peter 3:15 as he is stating that believers must be ready to give an ‘answer’ for their faith.

BIOGRAPHY: DR. G. OLIVER BARNES Pastor G. Oliver Barnes was born in Jamaica WI and attended the public schools there. At 18, Pastor Barnes matriculated at Caribbean Bible College because of his love for the word of God and his thirst for delving deeper into eschatology. After graduation, he met and married his wife Sonia and together they have three children. After more than 30 years, the marriage is still going strong. Pastor Barnes has a strong sense of family. He believes that a breakdown in the family structure leads to a breakdown in the community. Pastor Barnes’ philosophy, indeed a commitment, is based on the premise that leadership and growth comes from God to the individual, transcends into the family and extends into the community. Building strong relationships in the home first will ascertain the by-product of great leaders in society. Pastor Barnes look at the breakdown in our community as a result of the breakdown in the family structure and his objective is the rebuilding of the nucleus of the family. He is committed to building a strong foundation where needs can be met both spiritually and physically. Such a foundation needs churches with strong family relationships. His postulate is: “Cities are uninhabitable without strong churches that possess strong family foundations.” The concept of order in the community stayed in the heart of Pastor Barnes and accordingly, in 1981 he established Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church. This church has seen phenomenal growth as its activities are centered on the family and the community. The teachings of Pastor Barnes are totally Biblebased and stresses a right relationship with God as the first requirement of an individual. He and his staff have instituted an annual Health Fair; Family Affirming Relationship (FAR) Conference and continuous Leadership Training. Pastor Barnes has always had a penchant for education, and as a result, he is a life-long learner. He recently completed his doctorate in Theology, and that degree was conferred upon him in 2009. In addition to his studies, he launched the Sunrise Community Charter School (SCCS). He is a founding member of that school, the CEO and member of the Board of Directors. This is a natural outcome of the ambition of Pastor Barnes to see students develop into leaders in the community. He is also a Certified Christian Counselor and a Certified Court Mediator. One of the guiding principles of his life is the statement made by Dr. Maya Angelou: “The desire to reach stars is ambitious, the desire to reach hearts is wise.”

BIOGRAPHY: PASTOR KEITH MOORE Pastor Keith Moore was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He was an 18 year old college athlete in the prime of his life when God stepped in to change his course. It was at this time that he answered the call of God for salvation and was born again. He began preaching the gospel under the leadership of his Bishop, Dr. Gilbert Smith, who was very instrumental in teaching him the practical aspects of Christianity, the lifestyle of integrity, and holiness that provides him with the power to live what he preaches. Pastor Moore’s hunger for truth was triggered when he was constantly challenged by various religions. Therefore, to increase his understanding of Biblical history, he attended the University of Biblical Studies in Parkersburg, West Virginia where he was fortunate enough to study under a Jewish/Christian theologian, Dr. Joe Nelson. Under his tutelage, Pastor Moore gained a great understanding of the Scriptures from a Jewish perspective. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. With this knowledge and the power of the Holy Ghost, Pastor Moore delivers the Word of God that challenges and changes the lives of those who would hear. He is a preacher who is stamped by the melting pot of the city of Miami; he has a style of preaching that touches and captivates the hearts of his contemporaries in a diversity of cultures. With a heart for diversity, the Lord has allowed him to preach the Gospel throughout the United States and various countries abroad. He served faithfully as a dedicated Elder at the Apostolic Revival Center for about 13 years, and president of the Inner Strength Biblical Training Center. He followed the leading of the Lord and became the Pastor of Bread of Life Community Church, a fast growing multicultural, multigenerational church in Miami, Florida. God is truly directing Pastor Moore’s vision to advance the Kingdom of God. Pastor Moore is married to his lovely wife Lady Chanel Moore, and God has blessed them with four beautiful children: Qua’mani, Keith II, Kiera and Kai Moore. Surely, Pastor Moore is known to preach and teach the gospel with a fervent passion, digging deep down into the well springs of Scripture and bringing out the messages as water that is crystal clear.

WHAT WE BELIEVE •We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God. •We believe in the Godhead and in the Oneness of the Godhead. We believe that there is only one God manifested as Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and that Jesus, who represents the fullness of the Godhead bodily, was the Eternal Father made visible. •We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His atoning death and in His bodily resurrection. •We believe in Original Sin, the Fall of Man and that for the salvation of sinful men, one must be born again which includes genuine repentance, water baptism, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. •We believe in baptism by immersion in the Name, Lord Jesus Christ. •We believe in the observance of Communion or The Lord’s Supper as a sacrament and in the observance of Foot Washing as an ordinance. •We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, with speaking in tongues as the evidence of that baptism. •We believe in justification by faith, repentance and holy living through sanctification. We believe in Divine Healing. •We believe in the Second Coming of Christ and in His Millennial Reign. •We believe in The Final Judgment and the creation of a New Heaven and a New Earth. •We believe in the Resurrection of the Dead, in the Rapture of the Church, and in the personal return of Jesus Christ for His Church.
