Precious Greetings to all of you! I am delighted to welcome you to another Annual Prayer Conference for Pentecostal Tabernacle; we are truly thankful to God for His continued blessings in our lives. We have selected the theme, ‘Praying With An Eternal Perspective’, as we continually shift our posture from a focused attention on temporal things to that of the everlasting promises our Savior has in store for us. The Lord Jesus Christ in scripture commands us to pray; ‘Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God’ (Philippians 4:6). Not only is prayer the way to communicate with God, but it is also a demonstration of our obedience to Him. If we are to abide in Him and submit to His will, prayer must become a regular part of our lives. This time has been set apart for us to realign our focus and exercise the virtue of humility, so that we may be granted the privilege of experiencing God. It is our desire that this conference will strengthen our relationship and more importantly, be a transformational experience shaping us for eternity. God Bless You.
In His Service,
Pastor S. Robert & Lady Jennifer Stewart.

TRYING (TESTING) THE SPIRIT “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirit whether they are of God.” 1 John 4:1 Why was it important for the Apostle John to warn the early church of deceptions? The scripture says “Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour”. 1 Peter 5:8 Believers are aware of this verse and may even quote it often, but do we really understand what it is saying? It is reminding us that we are preys. The devil seeking to devour our minds, our hearts and our souls. His goal is to destroy us. How can believers overcome the pitfalls and traps from the enemy? Seek to know the truth. “When the spirit of truth comes He will guide you into all truth”. (St. John 16:13) “Then you will know the truth and the truth will make you free”. (St John 8:32) Are there spirits that are not of God? The scripture record examples of these: Seducing spirit (1Timothy 4:1); Familiar spirits (Isaiah 8:19); Unclean spirits (St. Matthew 10:1) Evil spirits (Acts 19:12) How can the deceptive spirits be identified? “Ye shall know them by their fruit”. St Matthew 7:16-17 In her book “How to try a Spirit” Mary Garrison lays out some examples of Roots and Fruits of spirits that not of God. There is a Root spirit that bears fruits. Sometimes we pray against the fruit while the root remains. Sometimes we pray and the fruit will even wither away, but if the root is still alive fruit will grow again. In order to get rid of the fruits the roots have to be identified and dug up.

The spirit of jealousy will attack with feelings of insecurity, distrust, inferiority or unworthiness. Jesus taught the principle that counteracts the spirit of jealousy. “Do good to those who despitefully use us”; “Overcome evil with good”; “Bless those who curse us” and “love those who hate us” (Matthew 5: 44; Luke 6:27-28). One of the main enemies of Christian unity is the spirit of jealousy. Its chief objective is to divide Christian homes, churches and friendships etc. This spirit will manifest itself in resentment, hatred and ill-feelings towards family members, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. To overcome this spirit we show love to the person, but the sword (the word of God) to the enemy (Ephesians 2:2; 5:2; Proverbs 10:12; John 13:35).

Divination is described as the art of obtaining secret knowledge, especially of the future. It’s the pagan counterpart to prophecy. Divination is by demonic power, while genuine prophecy is by the spirit of God. The scriptures clearly denounces divination (Deut. 18:9-12; Acts 16:16-18).

DISCERNING OF SPIRITS “Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not”. (Malachi 3:18)
The scripture teaches that God’s people should try the spirit by the fruit it produces. If one is ignorant of the manifestations (fruits) of the deceptive spirit it will be impossible to discern or distinguish the difference between the fruits of the Holy Spirit and that of the deceptive spirit. It is only by complete surrender to God, studying His word and staying close to him in prayer and worship that the Holy Spirit dwelling in us will “teach us all things and lead us into all truth” (John 14:17). What is our defense against the plans and deceits of the enemy of our soul? “The whole armor of God” (Ephesians 6:12-18).
