Some Glad Morning

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:19-22)

My Faith Looks Up To Thee My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior Divine; Now hear me while I pray; Take all my guilt away; Oh, let me from this day Be wholly Thine. May Thy rich grace impart Strength to my fainting heart, My zeal inspire; As Thou hast died for me, Oh, may my love to Thee Pure, warm, and changeless be, A living fire. While life’s dark maze I tread, And griefs around me spread, Be Thou my Guide; Bid darkness turn to day, Wipe sorrow’s tears away, Nor let me ever stray From Thee aside. All thru life’s transient dream, Until death’s sullen stream Shall o’er me roll, Blest Savior, with Thy love, Fear and distrust remove; Make me Thy grace to prove Transform my soul.

Some Glad Morning

Some glad morning when this life is over I’ll fly away To that home on God’s celestial shore I’ll fly away I’ll fly away, oh glory I’ll fly away in the morning When I die Hallelujah, by and by I’ll fly away Just a few more weary days and then I’ll fly away To a land where joys will never end I’ll fly away I’ll fly away, oh glory I’ll fly away in the morning When I die Hallelujah, by and by I’ll fly away Just a few more weary days and then Let me hear it, I’ll fly away To a land where joys will never end I’ll fly away I’ll fly away, oh glory I’ll fly away in the morning When I die Hallelujah, by and by I’ll fly away I’ll fly away, oh glory I’ll fly away in the morning When I die Hallelujah, by and by I’ll fly away When I die Hallelujah, by and by I’ll fly away

In The New Jerusalem When the toils of life are over, And we lay our armor down, And we bid farewell to earth with all its cares, We shall meet and greet our loved ones, And our Christ we then shall crown, In the new Jerusalem. Refrain There’ll be singing, there’ll be shouting When the saints come marching home, In Jerusalem, in Jerusalem, Waving palms with loud hosannas As the King shall take His throne, In the new Jerusalem. Though the way is sometimes lonely, He will hold me with His hand, Through the testings and the trials I must go. But I’ll trust and gladly follow, For sometime I’ll understand, In the new Jerusalem. Refrain When the last goodbye is spoken And the tear stains wiped away, And our eyes shall catch a glimpse of glory fair, Then with bounding hearts we’ll meet Him Who hath washed our sins away, In the new Jerusalem. Refrain When we join the ransomed army In the summer land above, And the face of our dear Savior we behold, We will sing and shout forever, And we’ll grow in perfect love, In the new Jerusalem. Refrain

Eulogy God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1) Vera Alberta Banks-Haugabrook, aka Aun V, Mommy, and most recently as aunty aunt V by the great grandchildren, hails from Gordon Town, St. Andrew, Jamaica. She was welcomed into this world on November 10, 1939, by loving parents Lena Barrett and Maxival Pinnock. Vera completed her secondary education in Jamaica. Later, on migrating to the United States, she received her diploma as a Beautician/Cosmetologist from the prestigious Wilfred Academy in the early 70’s. She shared a passion passed down from her mom and added seamstress to her tool belt of talents. Maybe that explained why she was always so nicely groomed and impeccably dressed. Whenever she stepped out, she did so with the refined beauty fit for a red-carpet gala. She was an entrepreneur and always emphasized the importance of creating your own success by tapping into God-given talents. She encouraged individuals to start their own businesses and hire others. Her outgoing and extrovert personality would eventually thrust her into the challenge of sales. She created her market niche through - Avon, Tupperware, Princess House, Popular Club and many other corporations. She even had an online business before they became popular and was never behind in the use of technology or social media. She could navigate her smart phone like a whiz kid, and of course, who could forget her Facebook page! She also obtained her Real Estate License and sold many homes. Her mantra was, “Why rent when you can buy.” From an early age, Vera gave her heart to the Lord and renewed her commitment in the late 90’s. Since then she remained steadfast while serving God faithfully. She was Holy Ghost filled and baptized in Jesus’ name. As an ordained evangelist, Vera believed every moment was a good moment to share the delight of the Lord. She shared the gospel to anyone and everyone she met; young or old, rich or poor, and anyone in between. This evident even in her last days in the hospital as she ministered to the doctors and nurses that took care of her. With that genuinely warm heart and an infectious smile that brightened any room. Vera was a prayer warrior, a prophetess, and a visionary. She wrote journals constantly about the visions, dreams, and insights that the Lord shared with her daily.

Eulogy Together with the love of her life – Kenneth George Banks, Vera raised seven children; one son and six daughters. She was a wonderful mother not only to those she birthed but several others shared her love and called her Aunt V. She always sought to help others in need, sincerely loving beyond her own flesh and blood and made a lasting impression on many. Feeding the needy kids throughout the world and giving shelter to those in need was her passion. Most of all, she loved being around kids and seeing them laugh. She would create her own names for her grand-kids; words like Maaga-Foot, Gaaling Scrap a duck, Pichery bottom, and the most recent greeting “What’s up Doc?” from the old bugs bunny cartoons. If she didn’t hear from her children within certain time spans, she would call and leave messages. Then if the call wasn’t returned in “her timely manner” she would be ready to set things straight in an amplified voice saying, “Weh mi do yu, Mek yu nuh call mi…?”

Vera was more than a cook, she was a chef. Although she could cook the most delicious Jamaican dishes, she transcended and was not confined to the culinary delights of her culture but incorporated many exquisite cuisine from across the globe. Among the delights were pineapple upside down cakes, Cornish hen, honeybaked hams, and pastas.

Eulogy

Thanksgiving featured her stuffed turkey and beautiful decorations to enhance the season; they are unmatched! Who can forget her gardening skills? She planted, watered, and talked to her flowers, plants, and herbs, and they responded by nearing many fruits. She grew green bananas, papayas, mangos, tomatoes, peas, and scores of herbs. Vera loved to travel. For many years she talked about going to Jerusalem and one summer she packed her bags, a few pretty dresses and went. She often shared the story of her baptism in the Jordan River and how she walked where Jesus walked. Oh, how we will miss hearing her voice sharing those beautiful words of life. What a lady!

Eulogy She leaves behind to celebrate her life seven children who love her dearly - her only son (Glenroy); six beautiful daughters (Annicia, Cynthia, Silena, Margaret, Denith, and Karen); son-in-law Paul Cooper; sister - Lurline Spencer; uncles Emerson “Ginard” Barrett and Arthur Barrett; aunt Gloria “Chickie” Da-Costa; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members, church family, friends, and associates. Aunt V, you will be sorely missed by all. You were truly a Proverbs 31 Woman. We all rise today and call you, BLESSED. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Proverbs 31:26-29

Aunt V’s Garden Our Dear Aunt V, to know you is to love you! Your prayers, laughter, and steadfast efforts to preserve family bonds have served as an inspiration. Even though you are gone from us physically, your life essence will forever be in our mind and hearts. Rest peacefully until we meet again. Lovingly - Greg, Marie, Shaniya, Marxus, & Simeon

A Family Remembers Vera was a niece who loved her family beyond words. She was always helpful to our Mother Mammie whenever she was in Gordon Town with her Dear Mother Lena. We will miss her cheer and laughter which she always brought to the family when she was around them. The Barretts Your laughter, words of wisdom and your love of God’s Word will be with me forever. Thanks for your teaching, your love and your beautiful family. Aunt V.

Some Fond Memories Of My Sister Vera Last year this time we were getting ready to go to Jamaica not knowing that this year she would be going to heaven to be with her Lord. I still can’t believe it. However, I am going to encourage myself and be strong knowing that Aunt V is in a better place. She was such a very good person. She lit up a room every time. Whenever I was feeling down I could always call my sister and she made me feel better. I have so much to say but it would take so much time. Aunt V, this is the family reunion that we were planning. You always brought everybody together; even though this time you are not here in person but in spirit. I can just imagine your smiling face - happy to see everyone present. I will always remember you my dear sister. Your loving Sister Lurline Spencer

Mother Friend! Rock! Inspiration! You taught me how to help others and I have endeavored to do that my entire life. You told me, “Never forget where you come from.” I will never forget the teachings and the love shared from 39 Tavern Drive. I will forever love you. Your only son! Toney! #1 She was my rock, my inspiration, my spiritual leader, and my best friend. Mother was a woman of substance who epitomized the true meaning of a virtuous woman. Your last words to me were, “Love each other unconditionally… forgive for it is the right thing to do… and most importantly, in all you do, never stop praying. God is our only defense in times of trouble and in times of need and the Lord will guide us through it all.” I will forever love you and miss you mom… forever and ever. Annicia Banks #2 Mommy and daddy… I want to thank you both for your beautiful creation of life and love you have brought into this unforgiving world. I will continue to instill those values in my children, your grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren. Your legacy of love and kindness will live on forever. Your loving daughter, Cynthia. #3
