Tribute to Daddy We make our entrance into this world with numbered days and a prescribed purpose ordained by God. Daddy fulfilled his purpose and has come to his numbered days. Bishop, Elder, Mr. Morris Wilbert, Brother, whatever you call him; he was my Daah / Daddy for me. My Hero – Today I echo the sentiments of Bette Midler’s song “Did you ever know that you are my hero and everything I would like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle for (dad) was the wind beneath my wings. The world was made a better place when my daddy made his entrance. Through his personal and professional life, he left a legacy which continued to make its impact even long after he is gone. When one mentions hard work, daddy comes immediately to mind. His life exemplified what can be achieved through diligent, untiring labour. It is said that we should work smarter not harder, but my daddy did both and achieved more. From an early age he instilled in me the time honoured value that it is by the sweat of your brow that you eat bread. Daddy kept us grounded, through his prudent approach to parenting. He had a clear understanding of sowing and harvesting and invested generously in the work of the Lord. He was honest, humble and quiet but definitely not a pushover. He had the capacity to articulate his truth calmly and clearly. Many would classify him as a Gentle Giant. He was an entrepreneur and a trail blazer in his field. The fact that he owned the oldest hardware in Savanna-la-Mar is a testimony to this. He was sold out for the Lord - Daddy feared God and believed only what is done for Christ will last. Although he lived and work in Savanna-la-Mar for years he journeyed to Lucea twice on Sundays and was often present for mid-week services. He did this for years until he built a house in Lucea. His life epitomized dedication to the work of the Lord. I can remember when he was ill the first time, one of my siblings said,” daddy I don’t want you to die.” Daddy promptly replied, “I don’t fear death, I would like you to be saved.” There was no discrepancy between his professional and spiritual practice. He lived his beliefs. He rejoiced when one soul got the Holy Ghost or was baptized. This was a clear indication to me that what ranked highest on daddy’s scale of priorities was not temporal prosperity but a relationship with the Lord. Today, I do not weep like those who have no hope. Instead, I rest firm believing that daddy will see his Saviour. Sleep on daddy and take your rest. I will miss you and our chit chats. You are in a better place. You will be forever in my heart. JESUS CHRIST DOES ALL THINGS WELL! Leonie Morris- Miller

My Dad, Wilbert Alexander Morris………. You are my general, my mentor, my hero. Dad you are no longer here in person, but you left a lasting legacy. The life skills I learnt from you cannot be paid for; having good principles, ethics, morals, the empathy for fellowmen, hard work, self-discipline, shrewdness, financial management, humility, uprightness of character, defending and standing up for what’s right and what matters, were all compulsory courses in the ‘Wilbert Morris’ University’. Being a parent myself, was made easy by just following your template. Your departure has created an unfillable void, but the legacy lives on. Thanks for being who you were, because according to the ancient African philosophy of ‘Ubuntu’, I am, because you were. Walk good General, I weep, but I take comfort knowing you are in a better place. Rob Morris.

Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Bishop Wilbert Alexander Morris

My Father I remember my father as a humble ambitious man who begrudged no one but was a pioneer who blazed a trail and stayed in his lane. He was no socialite but could engage anyone in an informed conversation on a wide variety of topics and special interests. In fact, he never voted but loved engaging in political debates. My father was my first date. He knew very well how to fete his daughters. We went to the best restaurants for fine dining where we were exposed to a variety of cuisines. In an effort to support his hardware customers, we dined at various hotels in Negril. On many of his business trips to Kingston, the top Chinese restaurants would be the eating places of choice. When in Montego Bay, Pelican Grill would be the place to eat. So today if my proverbial chest is high, someone now knows why. Blame it on my dad; he exposed me to the best. That being said, he also exposed us to eating on his construction sites. So now we can walk with kings and not lose our common touch. My father was my measure of a man; he was hardworking, honest, faithful, godly and peaceful. He had the strength of a lion, the meekness of a lamb and the dignity of a king. What a protector he was; he sheltered us but we were not stifled. We had no lack, because he had our backs. Even in my adult life when he was calling me Mrs. Dawes he was often led by his discerning spirit to administer to my needs spiritually and financially. Although we had our confrontations (for we were equally strong-willed), he would always be quick to extend the olive branch. He wasn’t perfect but he was a great father, the best and dearest. Arlene Morris-Dawes, A Grateful Daughter.

In honour of my ‘father’ Wilbert Morris Wilbert Morris affectionately called Brother Morris was first and foremost a self-made man. Words such as hardworking, determined, steadfast, loving, kind, generous and the list goes on but above all my father was a no nonsense person. I am forever grateful and I will always cherish his memories. I am today what I am mainly because of him. May his soul rest in peace. Ruddy. (Rudyard Watson)

IN REMEMBRANCE OF MY FATHER-IN-LAW & SPIRITUAL LEADER

Bishop W.A. Morris

Bishop was a true Father/Pastor who displayed his dedication in serving his family, the church and its members in his best and in his recent times of challenge unselfishly. I am grateful for the hours and days he engaged me as a son, both naturally and spiritually, depositing his wisdom and experiences of life into mine. We shared love and deep respect for each other. I will always cherish and be grateful for the quality time we spent together as I know these talks have and will continue to help me be a better person in many aspects. One of Bishop’s notable sayings I often remember is “whatever you delegate, you must regulate”. He was inspirational in all things and his wisdom was undeniably God centered. I can recall one Sunday after church I went into his room to check on him and was sharing church “updates” as usual. However, this day he was not feeling his best, realizing this I held back in order to not overwhelm him. He noticed and simply said “hold on, hold on now” this was his way of letting you know he’s not happy with the way the conversation was going and wanted me to engage fully. As I stopped speaking and replied “yes Daddy”, he stated “Elder I would rather not be here than not know what is happening with the Church... now come again”. This was one of the many displays of his commitment to the affairs of the church. He committed himself to everything that was happening with the church and made sure that the WORD of God was taught and followed. We are heartbroken over our loss as a church and personally for me as a “son”, nevertheless, we accept the will of God. I could share many stories of our talks together; Bishop always made me feel I was special to him. I feel honored knowing he gave of himself so sacrificially to me, my wife (his baby girl), and our children (his grandchildren) with whom his generosity knew no bounds. I never expected to lose him on Father’s Day, in fact any day would have brought on the same feeling of great loss. Our beloved Bishop will always have a special place in my heart.

Take your rest Daddy, you have earned it! Your Son, Elder Bryant

Tribute to Wilbert Alexander Morris I am blessed to call this legend and apostolic trail blazer my uncle. Without question you are everything I could have ever imagined. I honour you as a man of God, a visionary, faithful, kind, smart and astute businessman. You were a caring and supporting husband, dad, uncle and friend. He had a profound impact on my life. I credit my easy going nature to him as he has always been a humble man. By being himself he has shown me the best way to be me. The love you gave inspired me, to be the strong, confident, woman I am today. Through your actions I have learned true resilience, great negotiation skills, and the value of things and the ability to identify what matters most. Most importantly he has taught me to live my life based on sound Christian principles. Uncle was the one who encouraged me to attend driving school. He would enhance my driving skills by allowing me to drive him on Saturday nights to Lucea for Church. As soon as he thought I was proficient enough he took me for my driving test. Yes, my uncle took time out of his busy schedule to accompany me to that all important test. He was also present at the purchase of my first car as well. He was a no nonsense person, which sometimes may have been mistaken to be harsh, but deep down he had a heart of gold and wanted persons around to be their best selves. His life was well lived for God …………………… I admired his fervency for the Lord, Knowledge of the word of God and his wisdom over the years. Prior to building his lovely home in Lucea, for ten years he and his supportive wife travelled from Savanna-La-Mar to Lucea, every Sunday morning, evening and also for mid-week services. That is true commitment. At church, he taught, reviewed Sunday School lessons, preached and counselled many individuals. He had a unique gift to impart the word directly to your spirit. The lessons taught had a practical side as well as provided spiritual upliftment. As a former member of HBAC Lucea, he has taught me many great lessons. I was not always compliant but after his teachings I would quickly change course, falling in line with the word of God. I was called impromptu for my first preaching assignment by my UNCLE, but he was one of my biggest supporter throughout the experience. I have fond, precious and pleasant memories of my uncle that makes me happy. His exemplary Christian life assures me and gives me great hope that we will meet again. The legacy he leaves behind is not what is engraved in monuments of stones, but one that is interwoven in the lives of the many persons whose lives he touched. Sleep on Uncle until that great triumphant morning. Bobbeth Morris

Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Bishop Wilbert Alexander Morris

July 6th 2021 Tribute to the late Bishop Wilbert Alexander Morris On behalf of the leaders, brethren of Praise Sanctuary Church of the First Born, the Moulton and Miller families here in North America, we express our deepest sadness on the passing of Bishop Wilbert Morris, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a businessman and a pastor. To many he was known as Mr. Morris but to the Church community he was Bishop Morris. He had a real love for God and the work of the Lord. During our formative years he and his wife, Evangelist Imogene Morris, came to one of our convocations here in Toronto, Canada, in support of the ministry. He came because of his love for the work and for the saints who he knew for many years. On a personal note, I can recall on one of my most memorable days which is my wedding day, he volunteered his time, his car, and was also the driver of the bride and groom for the day, Sister Sonia Brydson-Miller and myself Ludlow Miller. He was an exceptional businessman and a supporter of the Church of Jesus Christ. He will be sadly missed especially throughout the Holiness Born Again Churches but he will be remembered for the work he has left behind. Death is not a period that ends the great sentence of life, but a comma that punctuates it to a more lofty significance. As he has transitioned, his work here on earth is ended but his life has never been better than it is now. He’s released from all bondage of humanity and has now captured the bliss of real freedom, and with the assurance now saying like Paul “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” (2 Timothy 2:7-8 NKJV). To his beloved wife of many years, his children and their spouses, grandchildren, his extended family, and church family, death is cruel, and causes separation but the memories you have of him will live on. Be comforted because of who he was in God, knowing he is home, “where the spirits of just men are made perfect.” May his soul Rest in Peace

To Evangelist Imogene Morris and the entire Morris family We are saddened by the loss of your husband, father, and the bedrock of your family. I have known the Morris family for many years. When I got saved, I met Bishop (then Elder) Morris and knew him to be a soft-spoken, but intense person, especially in giving of his resources to the church. As a pillar in the Savanna-la-Mar Church, he marshalled the brethren and people of goodwill to contribute to the advancement of the 5 Barclay Street Church under the leadership of the late Bishop John S. Watson. Bishop Morris’s hardware business flourished due to his tenacity and strong work ethics. This was the same steadfastness he gave to the Church for which God blessed his efforts exceedingly. He established a homestead in Lucea with his able wife and family and there continued and advanced the ministry in his pastoral capacity. We could continue to extol his goodness and his passion for the ministry, but it is sufficient to say amen to a life well lived for God. He lived for God ... AMEN! He lived for others ... AMEN! He died in Christ...AMEN! He shall rise in Christ...AMEN! Let the church say AMEN! God has spoken in the end of Bishop Morris’s sojourn on Earth. Let the church say AMEN! Lovingly submitted, Bishop Charles Mullings, Lady Gloria Mullings - Congregants of United Church IAM, Miami, FL

TRIBUTE TO THE LATE WILFRED MORRIS “A great business success is never attained by chasing the dollar, but is due to pride in one’s work.” -- Henry L. Doherty I have been very fortunate to have known the late Bishop Wilfred Morris who was an astute businessman and a devout Christian. His Christianity was a practical one as he did not just read the Bible; he took the Bible seriously and applied its principles to his every day activities. Bishop Morris believed that Christians should model or exhibit Christianity in their daily lives. He was serious about his denominational teachings but was Christian enough to tolerate and accept others from without the walls of his own church. Although we argued on many occasions about the differences in our doctrine we were always able to come to a mutual conclusion. He was for me a true friend. I was introduced to Bishop Morris by the late Mr. Scott, a fellow Contractor. At that time, we were building the church. His willingness to support the work of God was unparalleled. His advice, credit and support earned Morris Hardware the right to be asked to partner with Bishop Herro Blair (my church Head) to open the main door when the church had its dedication Service. Bishop has taught me the principle of separating business from friendship. He cautioned that his time, material and recruiting of workers will always be mentioned on statements. I appreciated his love and admiration for his family. His darling wife, he said, was a gem and a hard worker. I met his children in discussion with him even before I knew them. His value for education was detected by the way he referred to his children. He spoke of nurse, teacher, a graduate of the University of the West Indies, a businessman, an architect and a doctor. He spoke as a proud father and was very happy that his children were all achievers. Bishop Morris was intelligent, clever and a leader extraordinaire. He always gave wise counsel. His brilliance; hard work and ingenuity have gained him a reputation. From him I have learnt how to constructively handle legal matters even though he wasn't a Lawyer. I pray that the spirit of Wilfred Morris will rest on his children, grandchildren, and even on his last generation. He had the recipe for success. Wilfred Morris was a living proof of resilience. He was a

“Strong man who knew how to organize his suffering and bore only the most necessary pain.” Emil Dorian

Bishop Wilfred Morris was a prudent businessman, a community man, a cordial fellow citizen; he was courteous and respectful and made every effort to extend a hand to everyone he met along his path. He proved the words of Robert F. Kennedy to be true: “Never

underestimate the difference you make in the world, by simply being you.” To his family: I implore you; “When you grieve, angels are always near you to whisper that your loved one is safely in the hands of God” May your soul rest in eternal peace!

Our Tribute to Bishop Morris Bishop Morris was an awesome father, friend, and leader. We met Bishop Morris in 2005, when his youngest daughter, Dr. Donette Bryant, married our nephew/son, Elder James Bryant. Through this union, we never lost our son, but instead gained a daughter, and a family. Bishop lovingly welcomed us into his home, his life, and his ministry. Every visit to Jamaica has been exciting. Bishop Morris enjoyed spending time with family and trustingly allowed us to participate in his ministry. We knew even while on vacation, Bishop expected us to be ready to serve. He would smile and say, “Daughter, I want you to preach today!’ There was no warning, just the expectation to have a ready word. Bishop Morris was a true man of God who stood steadfast on God’s Word and held on to God’s unchanging hand. He was a man of integrity and strength. He was a provider, a giver, and an entrepreneur. Bishop will be thoroughly missed, nevertheless, his legacy will live on through his family and ministry. Today as we reflect on this dynamic man of God, his accomplishments, and all the beautiful memories, we say, “Take your rest, sir.” Although you will be sorely missed, we are proud of you and your endurance until the end. We watched you give God glory even on your bed of affliction as you waited for Him to call you from labour to reward. To God be the glory! Sleep on Bishop Morris … Take your rest. Until we meet again! We love you Daddy, Pastor Jacqueline Zeigler, Elder George Zeigler, and Family

Citation for Bishop Wilbert Morris JULY 2021 There was a man whose work as a mason and builder made him illustrious. He had lived life to the full and as it was the way the Lord made him live. Whatever he did, he did it befittingly, trusting that God was the one who sees and knows the heart of everyone. He stood strongly to erase ignorance and replace it with absolute and total godliness. He did not tolerate mediocrity and rubbish. He thought that such have no place in the sight of God. He truthfully defended truth and despised anything which was not built upon truth. And so, we are all here, gathered to pay our tribute to a man who defied everything and anything that was wrong and not embracing the things of righteousness as were ordered and ordained by the Lord his maker. A man who took unto himself, a woman named Imogene, (nee smith), made a wife and mother of her, but ended up leaving her widowed. Here was a man, who loved the things of God: gave liberally to the work of God, not sparingly, not covetously, not for boasting, but yet you could not out give him, when the call was made. He became my friend, and a friend indeed was he. We travelled together on numerous church matters and together, we spend the night sleeping in the car on the road. In commerce, we journeyed to places in Hanover, St. James, parts of Westmoreland, Manchester and Kingston. We stopped at various eateries, in diverse places, to grab a bite but had to make sure that he did not reach into his pocket before you did. He always liked to treat his travelling companions. Sometimes, we tried to get to the gas pump, fill up and smartly go inside to pay the bill. He was not perfect, but it was befittingly Bro. Wilbert to exact that which he believes. As it is written: A man that hath friends, must show himself friendly, and in that he was perfect. He loved his children dearly, but now, he left them fatherless, not because he so wished and not before he put them on a path to measureless success. Now, let’s rise and pay homage to the man who God raised up and blessed with earthly possessions, which did not change nor defame him. Instead, he walked in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, his God, and is now laid to rest. Elder Lloyd Vaughn.

TRIBUTE TO THE FAMILY OF OUR DEAR OVERSEER

Bishop W. A. Morris

I laid it down in silence, This work of mine, And took what had been sent me A resting time. The Master’s voice had called me To rest apart; “Apart with Jesus only,” Echoed my heart.

Minister Humphrey welcomed him as a kinsman; gave him the keys to the city and helped him to acquire different places in the parish of Hanover. They could be seen talking, laughing and sharing in only God knows what. The hand of goodwill was exchanged, as Overseer later became a Tower of Strength to Minister Humphrey even at the time of his death.

My heartfelt condolences to the Morris Family. I first met Mr. Morris in 1975 on my return visit to Jamaica. This was my first visit since leaving in 1964. I went to Savanna-la-mar with my brother to visit my cousin PT. She took me and introduced me to Mr. Morris who was working from the office upstairs. It was like meeting an old friend. We just talked and talked about many different subjects. We were having such an amazing time together that my brother went away and left me. I ended up spending the night at Mr. Morris’ home. This was the start of a very close friendship and a brotherly bond.

on more interesting meaning. My wife Pamella and I would come so that we could all go to church together.

The next time we met was on his visit to England and it was my opportunity to be the best tour guide that I could possibly be. We had some great times travelling to different places and I ensured that he enjoyed his visit.

I want to thank God for the privilege to know such a great man, who was so kind, warm and gentle. I will miss him very much. My visits to Jamaica will not be the same as I will not be able to see and talk with him. However, God’s time with him is greater than ours, so sleep on my brother in the arms of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Sleep and take your rest.

Thank God for saving me (when we first met, I was not saved). When we met again, we had more in common to talk about and our conversations took

On each of my visits to Jamaica, we would meet and on some occasions we would share fellowship by going to have a meal. On my most recent visits, which were quite regular in the past years, I spent time sitting with him in the room, talking and communing for hours about the word of God. I love his passion for the Lord which was very infectious.

Tribute to Bishop Wilbert Morris To Evangelist Imogene Morris and my cousins, Arlene, Leonie, Eddie, Robert, and Donette, please accept heartfelt condolences from my immediate family of the Palmers and the extended Morris family. In times of grief, individuals search for the right words that would convey empathy and comfort to hurting family members and friends. Unfortunately, many times we fail, not because the words were not sound and appropriate for the occasion, but because the grieving must grieve. So, today, rather than making what may be a futile effort to assuage your grief, I weep and mourn with you. I also celebrate with you as you give God thanks for the life of Bishop Wilbert, a husband, dad, grandad, brother, uncle, pastor, employer, and friend. This tribute is a small attempt to appreciate Bishop Wilbert Morris from the perspective of a distant cousin, who was at times made to feel like a daughter. A few things have remained with me over the years. Firstly, it is no easy feat walking from Wharf Road to downtown Savanna-la-mar under the steady and persistent glare of the Jamaican sun. Pursuantly, when someone stops at your feet to offer you a ride, it is with great and welcomed relief that one graciously accepts.

where he shared a little of his business endeavors with me. I recall that on one of our trips home, upon offering me a ride, he went by the block factory he was in the process of constructing. Rather than leaving me in the car, he gave me a tour and a little insight into the mind of an astute entrepreneur who recognizes when opportunity knocks and answers forthwith. Secondly, another gesture of kindness remains with me. When I began attending school in Montego Bay, I would occasionally return home on weekend trips. Whenever Bro. Morris would see me at the bus stop in Hendon, he would readily pull over and give me what Jamaicans refer to as “pocket money.” It was a small amount, but I greatly appreciated it and the gesture of awareness it represented. To many he may have seemed to be a serious and stern businessman, but to me he was a thoughtful and easy-going person, who was a visionary with notable business acumen.

Bishop Wilbert Morris’ remarkable legacy is both natural and spiritual and the extent of his impact may never be known. In the words of Mother Teresa, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” Bishop Morris cast several stones and the ripple effects continue perpetuating in many lives. That was my feeling when Bro. Morris’ grey malibu May you find comfort in knowing this. stopped at my feet. I do not recall having to flag down Bro. Morris, as I called him then, for a ride. I close with this, as I have said to Leonie, I know Somehow, he would recognize me from behind what it feels like to lose a father, especially a good and would stop. This often occurred on my way one. But in those moments when I cried for my home too. IN MEMORY OF

Bishop W. A Morris When you’ve lived your life for others and loved without condition. When you’ve made so many laugh, your smile won’t be forgotten. A father, a friend and nothing short of an exemplary leader. We find great comfort in the fact that we made you aware of how much our family loves and appreciates you. You were always present through all the milestones of our lives, you shared your honest opinions and imparted advices of pure wisdom. On the top of wisdom we must emphasize, as yours was beyond measures and one of the most admirable of your characteristics. There are so many precious memories you’ve left this family to hold on to, there is always an example or analogy for us to use from the “Bishop Morris’ Book”. We would always say, “Bishop Morris always seh.” One of his favorite quotes was “never lend wah yuh cyaa kiss goodbye.” You were never hesitant to share your life experiences with us so we can use as stepping stories to a positive life. Bishop. W. A. Morris, you will always hold a very special place in the hearts of the McMahon’s Family. We love you.

CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF THE LATE

Mr. Wilbert Alexander Morris On behalf of the Board of Management, Staff and Students of the Brown’s Town Community College, where Mrs. Leonie Morris-Miller serves as College Nurse, I extend sincerest condolences to you on the loss of a dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, other relative, friend and loved one, Mr. Wilbert Alexander Morris. Mr. Morris will long be remembered for his compassion for others as he served his community in his different capacities, but more significantly, he will be remembered for his deep committment and dedication to his beloved family. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.” This great soul lives on in you, his loved ones who he has brought together and will bring together again and again. His great legacy lives on in you. We pray that as you face the days ahead, wonderful memories will continue to light the corners of your mind and bring you comfort. Do know that you remain in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this period of great loss. May the peace of God continue to surround and cover you. Tribute to The Life of Bishop Wilbert Morris -------It has been said that The Dash on a Funeral Programme between Birth and a person’s Earthly departure, whether long or short, signifies the person’s life lived. So, let us all remember to fill in The Dash admirably. Bishop Morris has been entwined in my life for over 60 years. That’s a Biblical lifetime, and so much can be said about our friendship and family connectiveness. He was introduced and, inducted into our family by his dear wife, Miss Imogene, who is considered one of my parents - the late Reverends Enoch and Ivy Blythe, daughters. A vital Big Sister she continues to be. Wilbert had to be subjected to the well-known scrutiny of my parents and, successfully passed the Test. Hence, we as a family, were significantly involved in their Wedding in 1962 and onwards. The journey has been inclusive, pleasant and, successfully bonded. Wilbert Morris, from a humble beginning, was well known as a Visionary that climbed not only the Commercial Ladder to success, but also by his professional ability in Building Construction in Western Jamaica. His demeanor and principles were well known and appreciated. The principles by which he functioned attest to his Spiritual Walk with His God. His Mentor and Spiritual Earthly Leader, the late Bishop John Santimore Watson, assessed these qualities at an early age and, he in turn, not only emulated his Mentor, but journeyed into the path of Spiritual Leadership. Through it all encompassing outstanding principles. His children might declare that Daddy was too strict but Mom is more reasonable. However, the two blended well in good parenting, resulting in successful careers and cemented by strong Spiritual Foundation. Bishop Morris filled His Dash admirably, so others in review, can be affected positively. I do believe that His Welcome Committee in the presence of His Father God is glorious. My Friend completed His Dash well and leaves a noble pathway for others to follow. “Walk good my Friend”. Trevor A. Blythe, JP.
