IT IS WELL

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul. infred Ivey affectionately known as Blue or Boyson to many was born to Elbera Thompson and James Ivey October 6, 1940, in Mt. Ogle Lawrence Tavern. He was the 2nd of 3 children from their union. As a young child Blue enjoyed fishing, swimming (diving), riding his bicycle and playing his harmonica. Blue grew up in a large community surrounded by family. While living with his mom, aunt Bera and stepfather he was being sent daily to carry lunch in the field when he said to himself ‘no sah this not going to work” and decided to pack his bags and go live with his father, Cutta. As a young man Blue began his career working with Jamaica Public Service under MP E.K. Powell. During that time with JPS he would meet his future wife Hopie. Blue yearned to work for himself and finally made the decision to resign from JPS and began working for himself as a driver. This proved to be a good move and very lucrative, because of his popularity his business thrived.


One day while he was in downtown Kingston, off Hayward Street he was held up, robbed, and subsequently shot. After this ordeal he made several decisions that would change the trajectory for his life. Blue contacted his mom who was living in the United States and agreed for her to petition for him to migrate. She was ecstatic because she was asking him for a while, but he kept refusing. He then accepted a job with his close friend and former Principal of Oberlin High School. Blue migrated to the United States in April 1982. He wasn’t very fond of the place especially the weather. He took a while to get used to this way of living. He returned to Jamaica one year later and married long time love Hopie. While living in the United States Blue acquired employment with Mastec Utility Service company as a cable contractor. He worked with Mastec until he went into early retirement in 2003 due to an injury acquired on the job. Blue was super friendly and was loved by many especially the ladies. Blue fathered 12 children however 2 predeceased him. He loved to dress up and go out to parties. His signature piece was a felt hat and the latter years a cap; but he always had a on something on his head. He had a passion for dancing and was always on the dance floor. We can just see him now dancing up a storm in heaven. Yes, Blue gave his life to the Lord before he died. He would sit many hours talking to a friend about the Lord. On one of these occasions, he gave his life to Him. As the bible says, one plants, another waters, but God gives the increase. Blue was three months in the hospital and as his family visited him, they ensured he made his calling and election sure. Blue, now you are safely in the arms of your father, it is not goodbye, but see you later.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent those beautiful flowers, that we saw sitting there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you so much for whatever part. The family of the late Winfred C. Ivey deeply appreciated all expressions of sympathy in our time of great sorrow.
