managing director 's message WHAT DO TALENTS REALLY THINK ABOUT YOUR COMPANY The corporate sphere is no longer about what a talent can bring to a company. Today, equally important is also what a company has to offer to its talents. Let’s face it – it takes more than just figures in one’s salary to attract the right talent. Those who are high in demand are also interested in knowing what your company can offer in terms of growth, accessibility to a learning environment, mentorship as well as career prospects. Offer the right mix of benefits as well as opportunities, and you will top the list as a preferred employer. But what exactly are talents looking for? And how are you able to adapt to this? Obviously, having insider knowledge on the above will help you better plan your recruitment and branding strategies. Indeed, there are many surveys out there to give you pointers. But each one shows a different picture so there is no way of knowing exactly what is correct. Which is why with our GRADUAN® survey, we have made it our mission to get the right picture of exactly what you need to know not just about your brand but also the whole scope of it all in terms of what talents seek and how they perceive your brand. To do this accurately, we got on the grounds to conduct our survey during the registration for GRADUAN® ASPIRE. By doing so, it is possible for us to get a sample size of over 8,000 participants for our survey, giving the GRADUAN® team a more accurate representation of the bigger picture. The results of this survey are detailed in this report, which I am sure will help many of you align your branding exercises to be more relevant to today’s talents. It will assist you in knowing your strengths, your weaknesses, where you stand in our talents’ perceptions, where you need to improve and so forth. It is not to tell you that you are a perfect employer; what good will that do for your company if you are dedicated to adapt and adjust your current employer branding strategies to attract the right talents? I hope that you will find information that is invaluable to your company’s strategies. With this, I wish you all the best and thank you for your continuous support for GRADUAN®. Yours sincerely

overview
GRADUAN速 Brand Awards Survey 2014 Results of the GRADUAN速 Brand Awards Survey 2014 reveal several trends among talents when pursuing their preferred careers. Contrary to the belief that graduates will look for careers in industries based on their academic background, this study suggests that many are interested to seek opportunities in industries that are not directly linked to their chosen field of studies. This trend is apparent among respondents from the Engineering, Business Management and IT disciplines. Three key industries, namely Oil and Gas, Banking and Finance, and Conglomerate, are selected by a majority of respondents. Out of 21,552 respondents from the various academic disciplines, 53.48 per cent named companies from these three sectors as their preferred employers. The top three industries selected by the respondents are Oil and Gas, Banking and Finance and Conglomerate.

findings
DEMOGRAPHIC Data were collected from a total of 21,552 respondents during GRADUAN速 ASPIRE 2014. 44.8 per cent of respondents were from local public universities, 44.9 per cent were from local private universities and 7.1 per cent were from foreign universities. The respondents came from various disciplines like Accounting, Business and Management, Engineering, IT and Science. Respondents from Business and Management made up the majority with 30 per cent, followed by Engineering at 23 per cent. Respondents with science background made up 13 per cent, Accounting and Finance 10 per cent and IT 5 per cent. OVERALL As we further analyse the overall statistics from the survey, a number of findings need to be taken note of. Firstly, we concentrated on three key sectors, namely Oil and Gas, Banking and Finance and Conglomerate. Out of 21,552 respondents, 53.48 per cent of respondents are favoured to work at the Oil and Gas, Banking and Finance and Conglomerate sectors. First interesting point to note is that 29 per cent of respondents named companies from the Oil and Gas sector as their most preferred. 47 per cent out of 10,771 respondents came from Engineering background. Respondents from Business and Management came as the second highest with 21.6 per cent. The Oil and Gas industry has indeed dominated the demand of respondents looking for employment. Next interesting point is the new demand from respondents to work at the Conglomerate sector, which is 9.1 per cent of total respondents. The Banking and Finance sector has 15 per cent of the total respondents which is only 6 per cent more than the Conglomerate sector.

Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad (Great Eastern Life), a company rich with over a century of heritage serves the nation as the largest and most established life insurance company, providing financial solutions to generations of individuals, families and businesses across Malaysia. Celebrating its 107th anniversary this year, Great Eastern Life boasts assets in excess of RM63 billion, with over 2.9 million policies in force served by 21 operational branch offices and a strong network of 17,000 agents in Malaysia as at 30 June 2014. In 2012, Great Eastern Life made a bold move to evolve from a life insurance company to a LIFE company. This new customer-centric approach raised the brand to a new level, going beyond the normal scope of life insurance protection by providing a more holistic support for all customers in helping them to turn good intentions into actions. The LIVE GREAT Programme was introduced to help our customers to embark on their LIVE GREAT journey. This region’s first integrated health and wellness initiative which incorporates wellness tools, health tips, mobile apps, workshops and events, and exclusive privileges achieved great milestones as we engaged with hundreds and thousands of customers through events such as the Live Great Run, Smart For Life Tea Talks and more to help them live healthier and better. Reaching Out to the Community Great Eastern Life is committed to making a positive difference to the communities we serve, that is why Corporate Social Responsibility remains an integral part of our organisation and our business activities. We started the ChildrenCare project in 1995 as a long-term Corporate Social Responsibility project. It focuses on helping underprivileged children in three core areas namely education, health and wellness, and personal development. With the support and generous donations from customers, agents, employees and the public, we have donated over RM2 million to more than 180 children’s homes across Malaysia. We also recognise the need to nurture and develop young talents. Through the Great Eastern Supremacy Scholarship Award, we help deserving students pursue tertiary education in selected fields. Since its inception in 1998, RM9.2 million worth of scholarship has been awarded to 132 local students to complete their study both locally and overseas. A Trusted Brand and a Desirable Employer In 2014, Great Eastern Life made history by being the longest winning life insurance company of the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Gold Award for 11 consecutive years. We also clinched the prestigious BrandLaureate Blue Chip Brand Award 20132014, an accolade reserved for accomplished brand leaders, having won seven other brand awards from the BrandLaureate throughout the years. In addition, Great Eastern Life was awarded the Outstanding Business Awards: 100 Years of Excellence - Insurance Category by The Malaysia Book of Records. Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) is a fully-owned Government institution, which has been given the mandate to help transform the public transport system and to inspire a new lifestyle and culture amongst Malaysians to make public transport their preference via Transport-Oriented Development. Previously known as Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad, the Group aspires to provide world-class public transport services with a focus on enhancing comfort, convenience and safety for passengers, better connectivity and speedier mobility for the people, and generating higher productivity and more revenue for Malaysia. After more than a decade in operations and undergoing various transformation exercises, Prasarana took on the new name – Prasarana Malaysia Berhad – in July 2014 to truly reflect its current roles and business operations, including the initiative to become an active international player. Prasarana is the asset owner and operator of the country’s two LRT networks and the KL Monorail; in addition to the bus services of RapidKL, RapidPenang and RapidKuantan. Come 2015, RapidKL will be introducing the new Bus Rapid Transit – Sunway Line, which would be the first bus service to deploy electric buses in the Klang Valley. In 2017, it will add the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line under its operations arm as well. Plans are also underway to construct a new LRT network from Bandar Utama through Klang under its LRT3 Project. Beyond the efforts of transforming the country’s public transport services via Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd and Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd, Prasarana has also established Prasarana Integrated Management & Engineering Services Sdn Bhd (PRIME) to provide management and engineering consultancy services, and Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd (PRIDE) to undertake commercial and transit-oriented development projects to further strengthen the performance of the company. Through PRIDE, Prasarana aims to tap business opportunities created by the Group from its ownership of properties and lands assigned by the Government for its operations. PRIDE will utilise its expertise in tapping the potential of these assets commercially to generate revenue for the Group by looking into prospects of advertising, space rentals and strategic partnerships with developers to construct worldclass residential and commercial properties for Prasarana. Formerly operating as KLRT Consult Sdn Bhd, PRIME was restructured as a new strategic business unit for Prasarana to strengthen its business capabilities. Apart from consolidating all its know-how and skills on infrastructure development under one roof for commercial purposes, PRIME is also the vehicle for Prasarana in spreading its wings and markets its consultancy services and venture into nonfare-based business opportunities domestically and abroad. In November 2014, it landed its first major international contract to provide consultancy services for Saudi Arabia’s rail operator, Makkah Metro. RESEARCH REPORT
