Happy Easter and Happy April Fool’s Day! Not sure it’s quite correct to wish you, “Happy April Fool’s Day” but since it falls on the same day as Easter Sunday this year, I thought I’d do it anyway. I hope you all have a lovely weekend, enjoy your Hot Cross Buns and Easter Eggs – hopefully without too many unexpected surprises! This month we welcome several new advertisers, as well as articles from several local sporting clubs who are holding open days in the next few weeks. We also welcome back a number of seasonal advertisers, so keep an eye out for them as you browse through the magazine. Living in the country, as we do, is wonderful most of the time, but can be challenging when the weather becomes temperamental and dumps several inches of snow on us, as happened a couple of weeks ago. However, madam weather is ever capricious and a week ago, when writing this piece for our Surreybased magazine, all traces of snow had disappeared and it was a beautiful sunny day – it was even warm! Spring is on its way, I thought. Then this morning, to my astonishment, I looked out of the window and saw . . . three inches of snow . . . again! So much for global warming! That’s all for this month. Until next time, keep happy and healthy.

Spring Cleaning S
pring is here, it’s time to dust off the cobwebs, tidy up, remove clutter, get your affairs in order and get help with paperwork, cleaning and household tasks. Here are some tips to help you with your spring cleaning and make your home safer: • Go through kitchen cupboards, the fridge, the freezer and vegetable rack and get rid of rotten food and all those out of date items • Clean out the medicine cabinet and take expired medication or those no longer prescribed to your GP or Pharmacist to be disposed of • Test batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries if necessary (ask someone to help you with this)
14
• Check electrical sockets are not damaged or loose • Replace lightbulbs where needed and ensure that rooms, hallways and stairs are well lit • Remove clutter from the walkways in and outside your home but don’t try and move heavy objects or furniture by yourself • Donate unwanted items such as books and clothing, to a local charity shop • Reduce the risk of falling by removing trip hazards, making sure loose carpets are fixed securely, rugs and mats are non-slip and electric cables/leads do not trail across the floor • Move hard-to-reach items that are frequently used to
lower, more accessible areas • Dust overlooked places such as corners, ceiling lights, lampshades and blinds to eliminate mites, which can cause allergies and respiratory issues • Avoid cleaning anything that is beyond your reach – instead use a duster or cleaner with an adjustable handle. Alternatively, ask someone else to do it for you • Consider having grab rails fitted in the bathroom and make sure you have a nonslip mat by the bath and shower • Put your financial affairs in order. Sort out paperwork, review direct debits and standing orders, investigate cheaper energy suppliers

I
n the words of Oscar Hammerstein “If you haven't got a dream, how are you gonna make a dream come true?” My dream had always been to run a Boarding Cattery. With my passion for animals and over 25 years’ experience of having them in my life this has driven my desire to build and run my own cattery. I wanted to ensure I could offer the best possible standards and service, so I set about putting this plan into action. I opened Woodside Luxury Cattery in March 2017.
cats happy by giving them all the love and cuddles they want – providing a home from home experience whilst on their holiday. In addition to my ‘Everyday Menu’ I also offer a ‘Luxury Menu’, so that your cat(s) can have that extra special dining experience whilst on their holiday. The latter includes my ‘Turndown Service’ – a selection of cat treats from the mini-bar and some creamy cat milk just before bed for the ‘puuurrrfect’ boarding experience. More information about Woodside Luxury Cattery can be found via my website: www.woodsideluxurycattery.co.uk where you can also find a link to my facebook page. If you would like a viewing or to book then please contact Debbie on 01531 651808 or e-mail debbie@ woodsideluxurycattery.co.uk It would be lovely to meet you.
The chalets are constructed in uPVC to ensure the cattery offers the highest standards of hygiene, security and comfort. All chalets have an internal thermostatically heated sleeping area and outdoor covered runs, with heated beds for the winter and cooling pads for the summer. The luxury accommodation is set in beautiful, calm and peaceful countryside surroundings with fantastic views of the woodland, along with birds, squirrels and Muntjac Deer keeping my guests entertained. Running Woodside Luxury Cattery myself also allows me to really get to know my cat guests and their needs, ensuring they get the individual attention they deserve. I love the cats as if they were my own and I don’t wish for them toFocus want for anything. My aim is to make the Ledbury

itting at my desk one February morning, ostensibly working, but in reality gazing out of the window, my attention was caught by what looked like a brown oak leaf by the hedge. It seemed to be lifted slightly by the wind then dropped back down as the breeze passed. It was a few seconds before I realised that there was something odd about this particular leaf, but it was about seventy yards away and difficult to see.
For once my camera was nearby. Usually on these occasions, when I need it in a hurry, it’s in another room of the house, basically wherever I’ve been staking out a good position to photograph something of interest. Often, by the time I’ve fetched the camera, the something of interest has disappeared. On this occasion my camera was nearer than a pair of binoculars, and looking through it, telescopic lens fully extended, I could see straight Ledbury Focus
away that my oak leaf was in fact a bird and one I’d never seen before. It was beautifully coloured and I was sure of only one thing: it was a finch. The clue was in the beak - finches have short thick beaks, and this one had the largest of its type I’d ever seen. Camera out and ready I took some very bad photos. Sadly capturing a smallish bird, on a grey morning over seventy yards away and hand held, is more than myself or my equipment can cope with, but nonetheless I have recorded the sighting, proof that I was not hallucinating or suffering from pre-traumatic stress caused by going through a pile of paperwork. Having taken several pictures and too excited to even think about the paper stack on the desk, I rushed to the bookshelves for my bird book, turning immediately
to the section on finches. I knew what the bird wasn’t: not a bullfinch, not a chaffinch - it was too big for either and definitely the wrong colour - so I looked for more exotic birds and discovered, to my delight, that I had a hawfinch in my garden and that is first for me. Hawfinches are on the red list, there are only about 500 - 1000 resident in England. It is also one of the most difficult birds to see. Their markings make excellent camouflage and they are very shy. Winter is the best time to see them, when there are no leaves on the trees. They have been seen on Ragged Stone and Chase End this autumn/winter, so the one in my garden may well be part of the influx from Eastern Europe where crop failures have forced these birds further north looking for food. article by Geraldine Holbourn [stock photo]

Creating Your Garden Paradise article by Jonathan Bishop
Tying up Plants in Your Garden
N
ow is the time of year when things are growing well and before they flower, ideally they need to be staked. For example, plants such as peonies, which have a large flower head and are likely to flop over, either damaging the plant or dragging the blooms along the ground so they can’t be seen or allowing them to be eaten by slugs. There are various ways of tying up plants, depending on what type of
42
garden you have. Bamboo canes are the most obvious option, but if you have a large area of something like philadelphus, using bamboo canes for each stem can become a bit of an eyesore. What I recommend is, well before they are a foot high, put in a frame work which they can grow through. This allows the stems to be supported at a set height so they carry on growing past the support, allows the support to be out of view and the plants to shown off to their best advantage.
If it is a very traditional cottage garden and you have a supply of willow, you can weave yourself a miniature fence that helps to support your plants, and which would be more in keeping with the garden. The other advantage of putting in a small willow fence is that you can use it as an edging to your boarder and keep the plants off the lawn. You could also put in place two strong hazel posts and tie some twine between them, across which the plants can be draped. This would allow you to make the support more of a feature, rather than trying to hide it. Nowadays you can get blacksmiths to make up all kinds of metal framework. These can be very elaborate with decorations such as leaves and vines, to make a structural piece which can stay out in the garden all year and give you a focal point in the winter. They cost a lot more money but they offer different aspects in the garden when the plants have died back. You can get most blacksmiths to make these to design, or you can pick them up

from garden centres. I often look at what I want, then visit the shops at the end of the growing season and pick them up in the sales ready for the following year. There are companies that make hoops or interlocking wire supports. They are usually painted green so they can’t be seen and are really good for disguising supports whilst growing your plants to set heights. Usually you can buy these at garden centres on deals, because buying a lot of them can get quite expensive. It is important to know before you go to the garden centres what kind of plants you need to support so you can buy the correct heights and numbers.
to stop it twisting or the head snapping off. Make sure when you are tying in that you use the right kind of ties. Herbaceous plants need herbaceous green twine. It is very strong but doesn’t last very long. For a more permanent support, wire is not always a suitable option. This is because it can dig into the stem causing a weak point which can snap later on. It also gives an opportunity for disease to get into the plant. The support needs to be tight enough to stop the plant from rocking around in the wind and causing damage to the plant. Happy tying in everyone!
There are times where you might not need these types of structures, for example if you have a wall which your plants are falling away from. In this situation you could put in some vine eyes and a wire along the wall, tie the plants to this, hiding the ties behind the plants and keeping them still upright. Make sure you choose the right sort of support for the plant: for example a rose would need a small tree stake or a rose stake long enough to support the blooms and the plant in high winds. Often the majority of damage done to plants is in high winds so care needs to be taken that they will be protected. If a plant has a very straight stem this needs to be supported all the way up If you have an upcoming event please let me know. If you have a problem in the garden then please contact me and I will do my best to answer your questions. Wonderful Apple Trees A
pple trees are beautiful in every season of the year. For most of the long winter months the trees have been bare, and seem to be asleep. Now spring is here the buds immerge from their winter rest and unfold into newly formed leaves. The best is yet to come, when blossom buds form on the branches, just waiting for the warmth of the sun, and then burst into masses of beautiful flowers. I long for this time, especially when you see fruit orchards in full bloom, what an exquisite sight. It’s as if Mother Nature had captivated me with her spectacular beauty . . . and my camera is in action again. The honey bees are attracted to the apple blossoms' fragrant scent and nectar. They move from one tree to the next pollinating each tree as they go. We should thank our honey bees for without them we would have no apples. Later when the petals
48
fall you will find tiny seeds where the blossom was. These seeds will grow into clusters of apples. Half of each cluster should be removed so that the tree can sustain the apples that are left. Summer is the apple's time for growing. Depending on which variety your tree is, the fruit's outer skin may turn red, but not all are red - some stay a delicate green, and most are as sweet as the red. The trees must also grow stronger to sustain the fruit. In the autumn the apples finally ripen, and about two week before harvesting the apples’ food supply is cut off - this makes the apples sweeter and ready for the harvest. The trees have worked hard and provided us with a beautiful crisp, sweet fruit, filling the air with such a wonderful aroma - a good reminder that its time for baking apple pies again!
Apples can be consumed in so many different ways: as pie filling, cooked into sauces and other baked dishes. Many children love the toffee apples or just enjoy apples picked straight from the tree. Apples contain 85.56grams of water, so if you're ever thirsty and can’t find a drink, then eat an apple. They are also full of essential nutrients and vitamins, such as zinc, sodium, potassium, manganese and many more. Not all apples are grown for eating; many varieties are grown especially for making cider and other apple drinks. Whilst researching this article my husband, Michael, and I were very lucky to be invited by Mr Glyn Beaman, a local farmer, to see his old cider press. The cider press dates back to 1700's, and it was originally pulled by oxen, but today it takes two men to push the huge stone around the mill to pulp
To advertise call 01684 833715 or email: info@grapevinepublications.co.uk
the apples. The stone is very heavy and so these men would need a great deal of stamina! The pulped apples are then wrapped in strong open weaved sacks, and stacked in a frame. This is known as a cheese, and it is then sandwiched between two boards on the juicing press. When the heavy top is in place two large screws are turned and the cider flows. There were many barrels full of cider stacked against the barn wall. Each barrel was date marked and given an appropriate name for that season. Did you know that apple trees can live for 100 years? In ancient Greece the Apple was considered to be sacred to Aphrodite, and that to throw an apple at someone was to declare your love for that person; similarly, to catch it was to show symbolically your acceptance of that love. After harvest the leaves begin to turn red and brown and fall from the trees, which then spend the colder months of the year storing energy to prepare for the next growing season. I love the way the orchards look in winter, especially how the stark branches stand out on a cold foggy morning. Now we have come full circle, don't you think that the apple trees are amazing? article & photos by Pamela Green Ledbury Focus

Vehicle & Road Safety Protect your vehicle, secure your belongings
You are less likely to become a victim of vehicle crime in West Mercia than in many other counties but this is no consolation if your phone, wallet, handbag or satellite navigation equipment is taken and your vehicle damaged in the process. Here's what you can do to help: • Never leave anything on view • Take audio and sat nav equipment with you • Remove the sat nav cradle and wipe away the suction marks • Never leave the car with the engine running, or keys in the ignition • Fit self-locking screws to prevent number plates being stolen • Always lock your car and fully close windows and sunroofs • Fit anti-theft devices to steering wheels, fuel caps and wheels • Park in safe, well-lit areas or secure car parks • Never leave your mobile phone behind when leaving the car • Don't store items in the boot, take them with you.
MOT Reminder
www.gov.uk/mot-reminder Sign up to get free reminders by text message or email when your MOT is due. You’ll get a reminder one month before your MOT is due. You’ll get another reminder if you still haven’t had your vehicle tested 2 weeks before your MOT is due. You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.

Penalty points and fines for drivers using mobile phones
Motorists caught using mobile phones at the wheel will receive six points on their licence and a £200 fine. Newly qualified drivers, who have a ceiling of six points for their first two years on the road, could immediately lose their licence if they are caught. Mobile phones in cars can be beneficial and can provide security and assistance in an emergency. However, they are distracting if used when driving and this increases the risk of a collision. To drive safely you must concentrate on the road and a split-second lapse in concentration if talking on the phone could result in a collision. Drivers who use a mobile phone, whether hand-held or hands-free: • are much less aware of what's happening on the road around them • fail to see road signs • fail to maintain proper lane position and steady speed • are more likely to tailgate the vehicle in front • react more slowly and take longer to brake • are more likely to enter unsafe gaps in traffic • feel more stressed and frustrated
Be safe not sorry
Even the most careful driver will be distracted by a phone call or message as concentration and observation skills will be affected. • keep your mobile phone switched off when driving and let your voicemail pick up any missed calls • only use a mobile phone once you have stopped in a safe place.
To advertise call 01684 833715 or email: info@grapevinepublications.co.uk
• never stop on the hard shoulder of a motorway, except in an emergency • using a hands-free device is not illegal but will reduce your level of concentration while driving, putting yourself and other road users at risk - if you must use one, say you are driving and end the conversation quickly • a mobile phone can be used in a genuine emergency • on a motorway it is best to use a roadside emergency telephone as the emergency services will be able to locate you more easily

At the last meeting on Monday 26th February residents set us a new priority of speeding in Ledbury, Colwall and Bishops Frome. Working together with the Safer Roads Partnership we will monitor speeds at various locations and feedback results via parish councils and at the next Ledbury PACT meeting.

Ledbury Bowling Club L
edbury Bowling Club was founded in 1927 and is situated in Bank Crescent. A very unique club and bowling green built between Ledbury town centre and established traditional housing. Bank Crescent itself is on a steep incline, against our bowling green which is level and flat. From those early days it has now become one of the top bowling clubs in Herefordshire, catering for all ages and abilities. The club has its own clubhouse facilities which are used twelve months of the year in the closed bowling season, social activities take place, i.e. quiz nights, crib drives, themed food evenings, members bingo sessions and horse race gatherings. All are well catered for in centrally heated rooms, and a fully stocked members' bar. The season of 2017 saw some of the most rewarding results for LBC. Our men representing Herefordshire won the National Fours Championships competition at Leamington Spa, a first for any club in Herefordshire. We were also represented in singles, pairs and triples matches at the National Championships, all going on through a number of rounds. Two of our young members represented England playing in the International series against Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Our Ladies section is well established, again with a number of Ladies representing Herefordshire in the National Championships. Saturday April 14th represents the start of the 2018 season, with high expectations for another
62
successful season. During this Saturday our green will be open to existing members and we would welcome new members, both with bowling experience and beginners. We have equipment to use for people new to bowls, and we have a recognised BDA coach to help you get started. So come along and view our club, meet our friendly members, try our facilities and refreshments. Our subscription fees have not increased in eight years and for new bowlers the fees are just 50% for the first year. Junior members upto the age of 21 years pay just £15, excellent value for money for all players. During the playing season, we play upwards of forty mixed friendly matches against clubs throughout the Three Counties. Ladies and men’s league matches in Herefordshire and Worcestershire and County Competition matches, which if successful, you represent Herefordshire in the Nationals. A further Open Day is scheduled for May 20th, so please come along and give our game a go, we feel sure you will enjoy it.

Your guide to a wild
April
with Herefordshire Wildlife Trust
O
ur gorgeous bluebells are in flower this month, colouring and scenting our ancient woodlands. The native bluebell (Hyacinthoides nonscripta) thrives in open woodland where there is space for light to come through to the woodland floor. Our woodland nature reserves are managed with coppicing, thinning and by keeping wide rides and paths clear and this
66
allows many wildflowers – and the insects that rely on them - to flourish. Visit Herefordshire Wildlife Trust’s Lea and Paget’s Wood Nature Reserve near Fownhope or the Malvern Hills for fantastic bluebell displays. Another special flower, the snake’s head fritillary also usually blooms this month – though in very different locations. This delicate and distinctive flower, pattered with a purple checkerboard design, grows in floodplain meadows and can be seen on Lugg Meadow on the edge of Hereford – flood waters depending! Look out for cuckoos, swallows and house martins arriving back
in the UK from late March onwards. Having overwintered in Africa, cuckoos spend the spring and summer here and are notorious for laying their eggs in the nests of other, smaller birds, such as meadow pipits, dunnocks and reed warblers. A wealth of folklore is attached to this bird whose call traditionally heralds the coming of the summer. What to Do Foraging Hedgerow spring greens are abundant in April – jack by the hedge, wild garlic, dandelion leaves and the tender tops of nettles are all abundant and easy to identify though there are many others.

Snake's Head Fritillary - photo courtesy of Evan Bowen Jones Dandelion leaves, hairy bittercress, and jack by the hedge can all be used as salad leaves and eaten raw, whilst common sorrel and wild garlic make a great pesto. (Remember to follow the foragers’ code and only pick small amounts of common plants where they are abundant and only pick courtesy plants when youWilberforce are confident Yellow Flag - photo of Lizzie you have identified them correctly.) Sow wildflower seeds Whether you have a large garden, square of lawn or window box there’s always space for a few of our native wildflowers to take root! These will not only brighten up any area but are fantastic support for our bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects. If you have a lawn, consider leaving an area unmown to grow long over the spring and summer and, to maximise the flowers, plant plug plants of yellow rattle, (a plant which reduce the strength of the grasses), and sow wildflower seed mixes into any bare patches.

t is all too easy to think about cute, fluffy rabbits around Easter time, however rabbits are not the easiest pets to look after. They require a certain type of housing, exercise area, diet and they are susceptible to a number of conditions, some of which can be fatal. Rabbits are notorious for being selective feeders - this means they will eat the nice bits and leave the bits that are actually beneficial to their health. Rabbits that are selective feeders have an increased risk of developing dental disease and misalignment of the cheek teeth; this in turn can lead to other conditions involving the rabbit's digestive system. Teeth related health issues can be rectified when they are addressed and treated in the early stages. Another dietary related condition is obesity and this in itsself can lead to other health conditions, including Flystrike. We see a number of cases during the warmer months, where flies have been attracted to dirty housing and messy bottoms and laid eggs which have hatched in to maggots. Like our dogs, cats and horses, rabbits require annual vaccinations to protect them Ledbury Focus
Health & Well-being of Rabbits this Easter against fatal diseases. For many years, the diseases we have been concerned about are Myxomatosis and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease, and for these there has been a single vaccine, readily available that protects against both diseases. However, in more recent years, another strain of RHD has become increasing prevalent and this strain is not covered by the normal vaccine, and has resulted in several cases locally. However there is an extra vaccine available. If you would like to speak with a member of our veterinary team regarding the health of your rabbit or their vaccination status, please do not hesitate to contact us. Troublesome Ticks As the weather starts to warm up, our dogs will be going for more walks in the countryside and our
cats will be out and about exploring their surroundings, so you may notice an increase in these parasites. Ticks live in the long grass and woodland areas waiting to latch on to passing pets. Once the ticks have attached to the pet, they feed on your pet’s blood – often for several days. There are several effective ways of controlling ticks, including spot-ons, collars and a very effective tablet that provides three months' protection. It is worth bearing in mind that not all flea prevention preparations will provide protection against ticks, so please have a look at the instructions or packaging. Alternatively, please feel free to contact a member of staff at the surgery who will be more than happy to have a look into it for you.

n this article, I share with you some information concerning Kinesiology, Health Kinesiology to be specific which is a specific form of this therapy. I will highlight what it is and how it can help you to feel healthy, balanced and vibrant! Kinesiology Pronounced Kin-easy-ology, is a health / healing modality, and there are now many different types or branches of Kinesiology across the world. The modality was originally developed in the late 60s/70s by an American Chiropractor Dr George Goodheart founder of Applied Kinesiology and the International College of Applied Kinesiology. Goodheart discovered that each muscle in the belongs to a specific circuit or meridian within the body and that when things in the circuit are out of balance the muscle would test weak. Training in this modality will often take a practitioner several years and Kinesiology generally contains lots of techniques and
procedures that can be used to re-balance the body and energy systems. I originally trained in Health Kinesiology which was developed by Dr Jimmy Scott in Canada in 1978. I also trained in Touch for Health Kinesiology which was developed by Dr John Thie in the 70s. These types of Kinesiology both have their origins and connections to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and I also learnt a lot about TCM such as the acupuncture points and what health issues they are used for treating. Muscle Testing Many people refer to Kinesiology and Muscle testing interchangeably, however, the two are quite different. Muscle testing is a technique we are trained in as Kinesiologists in order to get bio-energetic feedback from the body when asking very precise questions or when using a food or allergen to test the body’s response. Muscle testing as a technique has been adopted by many health practitioners such as nutritionists and herbalists to

ascertain information from the body concerning supplements or food intolerance or allergies.
not work as well as usual, and this causes symptoms in the body.
Meridians In Kinesiology training we learn where the meridian energy are located throughout the body and precisely where the hundreds of acupuncture points are located. We then learn lots of techniques that can be used to balance the meridians such as gentle massage or tapping them lightly which helps revive and restore them.
An organ can also become ‘overenergised’ when too much energy is directed into it by the meridians, which can also have a detrimental effect.
Health Kinesiology works by re-tuning meridian energy to accept a pattern of stress that has been highlighted within the body. There are 14 main meridians on the human body – two of them run directly up the centre of the body, one at the front, one at the back, and the remaining 12 meridians are bi-lateral – i.e. they are in pairs, one on the left and one on the right of the body. The Chinese discovered that each of the meridians directed energy into one of the main organs of the body (for example, we have a pair of meridians each for our Liver, Heart, Lungs, Kidneys etc.). If the meridian becomes blocked, or malfunctions in some other way, the organ does not receive its usual amount of energy and becomes ‘underenergised’, and therefore does Ledbury Focus
The Chinese also found that certain emotions tended to under- or over-energise particular meridians, and so our thoughts and our emotions can influence the functioning of our internal organs. For example, the Kidney and Bladder meridians are particularly influenced by ‘fear’ and ‘anxiety’-type emotions. How I work in practice Within Health Kinesiology I have lots of procedures that I can use in order to balance the body and energy systems. I do this by muscle testing your body and identifying what it needs from my “menu” of “corrections” in order to regain balance. These “corrections” are performed by highlighting a pattern of stress. These stress patterns might be emotional or psychological and are set up by the individual thinking about something specific or by physically using a toxin, allergen, food or other substance. I will test which circuit or meridian is out of balance and
will hold points on that circuit along with using other “kit” in the presence of the stressor in order to restore balance back to the body and energy systems. This literally allows your body and energy systems to integrate and deal with whatever was causing the stress. People generally feel freer and lighter after this work, they also report that they can think about or be in the presence of whatever was causing them stress and it not cause them problems any longer. Some specific examples of the things this work has helped people with include: Phobias, Fears, Emotional problems, Unhealthy patterns of behaviour, Psychological stress, Pain, Sensory issues, Cognitive issues, Learning difficulties, Allergies and Intolerance issues, to name but a few! Contact me for more information If you have any questions or would like to know more about how I work either give me a call on T: 01531 579 035 or M: 07904 457 075 or email me on E: helen@complete-balance. co.uk. Wedded Bliss . . . ?? A young couple got married and went on a cruise for their honeymoon. When they got back home the bride immediately called her mother, who lived three hours away.
LEDBURY HERITAGE CENTRE Ledbury Heritage Centre in Church Street has reopened New volunteers to welcome visitors are needed If you are interested, and for more details, please contact Anne:

“Well, darling,” said her mother, “How was your honeymoon?” “It was wonderful, and so romantic. We had a great time,” said the bride, "but as soon as we got home he started using really horrible language. Words I have never heard before. Really horrible four-letter words! You’ve got to come get me …PLEASE.” Then the bride began to sob over the phone. “PLEASE, mum come get me!” begged the bride. “But darling what did he say, what four-letter words, you have to tell me what’s troubling you,” said her mother. Still sobbing the bride said to her mother, “Words like …. DUST, IRON, COOK, WASH!”
***** A husband and wife are on the 9th green when suddenly she collapses from a heart attack! "Help me dear," she groans to her husband. The husband calls 999 on his mobile, talks for a few minutes, then picks up his putter and lines up his putt. His wife raises her head off the green and stares at him. "I'm dying over here and you're putting?"

"Don't worry dear," says the husband calmly, "they found a doctor on the second hole and he's coming to help you." "Well, how long will it take for him to get here?" she asks feebly. "No time at all," says her husband. "Everybody's already agreed to let him play through."
***** At a wedding ceremony the pastor asked, ''If anyone has anything to say concerning the union of the bride and groom, speak now, or forever hold your peace'' The moment of utter silence was broken by a young, beautiful woman carrying a child. She stood up and started walking slowly towards the pastor. Everything quickly turned to chaos. The bride threw the bouquet at the groom, then burst out crying. The groom's mother fainted. The groomsmen started giving each other looks, wondering how best to help save the situation. The pastor asked the woman, "Can you tell us, why you came forward? What do you have to say?" There was absolute silence in the church. Then the woman replied, "We can't hear you in the back row."

id you know that Ledbury is documented in the Doomsday Book and the many historic buildings span centuries back to medieval times. Little wonder that with the wealth of attractions Ledbury is firmly on the map for visitors and tourists as a “MUST SEE” Town.
Well worth a visit!
At a presentation by Chris Johnson, Chairman of the Ledbury and District Civic Society, to members of the Rotary Club, Chris said that the Society exists to ensure Ledbury’s heritage is at the heart of our present and future. Illustrating his talk with colourful photographs, members were taken on a fascinating tour of Ledbury, including the Butcher Row House Museum.
The Society is run entirely by volunteers; their prime objective is promoting and safeguarding our heritage and if you would like to become a member the cost is only £10.00 per year. E-mail: membership@ ledburycivicsociety.org to find out more.
Originally one of a row of 15 houses and shops, (many of them butchers), which ran down the middle of what is now High Street, the houses were bought out by public subscription in 1830. Most were demolished, but Butcher Row House used to be in the back garden of 14 High Street.
Chris went on to say that currently population of Ledbury stands at more that 10,000 and many of the residents in and around the region support the Town in all its activities throughout the year.
Rotary President David Houghton thanked Chris for his enthralling talk, which captivated the interest and imagination of the audience. article & photographs by Jan Long
Whilst making no comparisons to the fantastic feat of moving the great temples of Abu Simbel in Egypt during the 1960s, when Ledbury and District Civic Society was given the house in 1979 it was moved from the high Street and re-erected it in its present location next to the Burgage Hall in Church Lane.

CASANOVA: World’s First Museum & Experience I
taly is known for producing numerous products of highquality. Italian designer fashions and cars are very much recognised and sought-after, globally. Many visitors return regularly to Italy, for the enjoyment of beautiful landscapes and coastal areas, plus explorations of Italy’s history and cultural heritage. There are many more attractions and qualities the country has to offer, including very impressive glassware, porcelain, lace and furniture, plus wonderful cuisine and wines, for example. Giacomo Casanova lived during the 18th century. Born 2nd April 1725, in Venice, he lived for 73 years. During his life, the legendary Giacomo Casanova was an adventurer, poet, musician, writer and spy, amongst his many attributes, as well as being renowned for his encounters with females. Entering the University of Padua, at twelve years of age, Casanova graduated at age seventeen with a degree in law and constantly searched to satisfy his desires for love and lust.
Ledbury Focus
During the early part of the 21st century Carlo Parodi envisaged the creation of a Museum & Experience, to offer everyone the opportunity to learn and discover about the life of Giacomo Casanova. Carlo Parodi, founder of Giacomo Casanova Limited and the Giacomo Casanova Foundation works tirelessly, along with professionals, that include university professors, plus many other knowledgeable and skilled personnel and has created the Museum & Experience, for all to enjoy. The first Giacomo Casanova Museum is located in Venice. As well as the very interesting memorabilia, which includes paintings and artefacts from Casanova’s life and times, modern technology and multimedia inclusions allow visitors, of all ages, to engage in and discover – the world of this charismatic man. The romances of Giacomo Casanova, plus the styles and ways of life, of that era, hold much interest and fascination, evoking and satisfying curiosity and intrigue.
