Cloudy2Clear Announce Trusted Trader Partnership Consumer champions Which? have now joined the thousands of customers who recognise that Cloudy2Clear Windows really are a business that you can TRUST. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has received the coveted ‘Which Trusted Trader’ status after going through a rigorous accreditation process entirely focussed on customer service. Group Managing Director Marcus McGee believes that Which? have endorsed Cloudy2Clear’s long standing company policy

If your double glazing has misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 25 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Whilst a number of tradespeople perhaps don’t focus on customer care as much as they should do, we make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. Locally Cloudy2Clear service the towns and villages in and around the Evesham
& Pershore area and manager Paul Papandreou agrees that this approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated as both my customers and, obviously a body as nationally important as Which? now recognise.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

The Power of a Website A
website is one the most essential marketing tools for any small business. Not only does it allow you to communicate, educate and influence decisions, but a strong, professional solution gives you the ability to compete with big names and motivate potential customers to engage with you. With high-end agencies quoting beyond the budget of most small businesses, there comes a range of low-end alternatives. The internet is awash with cheap service providers and free DIY tools, but when has “cheap” ever meant good value for money or anything “free” been the optimal choice?
Steve explains: “It’s really important to have a website that works well on any mobile device. Not only does a responsive design improve user experience, but Google rewards mobile friendly websites in search results. Choosing not to adhere to recommendations set by the internet powerhouse could see your website completely disappear from their rankings at some point in the future.” If you are interested in undertaking a new web project or redeveloping your existing website visit: www.121webconsultancy.co.uk for more information, or call Steve on 01386 462033.
Freelance internet professional Steve Johnston has been trading as 121 Web Consultancy since 2006. He has 17 years commercial experience as a web developer and industry sector webmaster, with diplomas in online reputation management and digital marketing. Working with clients on a one-to-one basis specific to their business needs, 121 Web Consultancy provides affordable, professional web services and friendly advice to help develop and maintain a successful online prescence. “Many business owners come to me with little idea about how to go about their project.” says Steve. “A major part of my role is to guide them through the entire process, from offering initial ideas and options, through to content creation and marketing advice.” With a significant increase in mobile usage over the last few years 121 Web Consultancy creates all websites to the latest web standards and Google recommendations, a service not to be overlooked by any business holding onto an out-of-date website. 4

On to this month's magazine. And the main event this month is of course, the Pershore Plum Festival - have a look at the centre pages to see what the main features are. We all like 'happy endings' so I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that Jonah, the Cats Protection cat we featured last time, has gone to a lovely new home. Have a look at the article on page 30 to see who else needs a home. St Richard's Hospice have two fund raising projects this month: Write a Will month and Waterway Walk, so look out for their adverts as you browse through the magazine.

In case you are wondering, the beautiful peacock on this month's front cover was photographed in the gardens of the Presidential Residence in Malta. These gardens are where some of the scenes from the first season of Game of Thrones were filmed. Those of you who are GoT fans might be interested to know that the first season was filmed entirely on Malta and Ireland, on a very modest budget of $3.5 million!

that it takes a year to put on new growth and to be able to appreciate the nice red or different coloured stems. By rotating the growth on a 3-year or 5-year cycle means you can keep the plant at a set height. So, based on a 3-year cycle:
Creating Your Garden Paradise article by Jonathan Bishop
PRUNING There are three main types of pruning: Spur pruning This is where you take a branch that has main growth coming out of the middle and then it branches off on either side as a pair. By pruning the middle part out you end up with two side shoots, a bit like two antler spurs. These then branch off and then spur again so you can go down to each branch. The advantage of doing this is the bush is then pruned back, not looking like it has been hacked. When you look at it you should see that it has been managed, but you shouldn’t see the cuts because the two side spurs cover the original cut. Another advantage of this, is to be able to prune tighter back to a joint and shape back a plant without it looking as though it has been hedge cut. It also leaves flowering buds on the shrub, which means you can reduce it and keep it under control whilst retaining the new buds and promise of further flowers. If you ran a hedge cutter over and, what is called `lollipop’ it, if it flowers on second year growth, this method would mean you would remove all the new flower heads and decimate the second year’s growth. Rotational Growth Plants such as Cornus and Dogwood are grown for their coloured stems. The RHS would say “After the winter get your Cornus right down to ground level and let them re-sprout.” The disadvantage with this is 12
Year 1 - take the oldest stem out to ground level. Year 2 - the following year you take the next oldest stems out, and the previous year that you cut out will be into the first year height. Year 3 - you take the oldest stems out again, and the first year growth becomes the second year, and the second year growth becomes the third year. This way there will be nothing that has any more than 3 years growth, and the first 3 (or 5 years) are the most colourful with shrubs like Cornus, and the bush growth will be no more than 3 years in height. Some people use a hedge cutter and prune from the top. This is fine, but the old woody stems lose their colour and you have the lovely coloured stems on the top of the plant. At some point that plant will get too big and you will have to cut it down to ground level, so all that effort of putting in the new shoots is then lost. Hazel: when you coppice them in a woodland environment, you would coppice everything down to the ground and return in 3 to 5 years’ time when it has started to produce nuts and also nice straight stems. These would have been used for hedgelaying back in the old times, or for making bows and arrows, etc. In a garden situation this is the same sort of thing: you are coppicing down to ground level, but you are only coppicing some of the plant in order to be able to retain some of the interest at all times. Again, on a Hazel in a garden situation you would maybe do it on a 5-year cycle because it takes one of its new stems up to 5 years to produce fruit; so if you wanted the Catkins and fruit on a 5-year cycle you wouldn’t lose any of the interest in a garden. A little bit of research on how long a plant takes to mature and fruit from that point of view will also help to plan out rotational growth.

just above a bud
above a healthy side branch
Tipping When you prune something like Forsythia, which puts on a mass of new growth, this growth gets very tall and leggy, sometimes so tall that it ends up snapping off or can’t support the flowers when it comes into flower. By tipping the ends - which is pinching out at the growing point - this puts on side shoots that can then grow sideways rather than just straight up, thereby slowing the height of the plant, and putting out more side shoots, which would eventually result in more flowers. Forsythia takes 2 years to flower, so by tipping the ends, it will put on twice the bulk than if it went straight up towards the light. The secret is, if you know where it is likely to sprout from, then this is where you can tip the ends out and the flowers will become at head height. If you have something very scented you don’t want it flowering too much above your head otherwise you won’t be able to smell the flowers and you won’t be able to see them either. last year's spur
leave only main branch
never prune so that long stubs remain
cut to base or ground; file off stubs
Just about all plants will send a shoot out on a bend, so if your plant leans (Forsythia doesn’t, whereas Jasmine is very good at doing this), it leans out and then grows from the bend. This new shoot is closest to the sun, and is the straightest point to obtain goodness from the roots to the tip. This shoot grows very quickly and very strong; grows up, can’t support itself and then leans over the growth that has grown underneath it. If this keeps happening on a regular basis the underneath will die out and that is when you get a shrub that has a lot of dead underneath. The Montana Clematis will do the same thing. It grows very quickly on the joints, nice new purple growth, but smothers the growth underneath it. If you lift this plant up and take this growth from underneath out, or prune back to the joint, then all the goodness is going into the major shoots and not killing off the growth underneath. Next month I will look at when and how to water plants.

Summer at the Ashmolean Museum Broadway Visiting the Museum At the Ashmolean Museum Broadway we have been improving our displays with room cards providing more information on the objects in the collection thanks to research carried out by staff and volunteers. The exhibition has been curated by Katherine Wodehouse, the Print Room Supervisor for the Western Art Department at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The son of a baker, Griggs was born in Hitchin but moved to Chipping Campden in 1905.He is best known as a draughtsman and print-maker. His artistic career was assured in 1900 by a commission from Macmillan to illustrate their

guidebook series Highways and Byways. Beginning with his native Hertfordshire (1902), he completed eleven further volumes, among them one devoted to Oxford and the Cotswolds (1905). Places that he originally encountered as an illustrator often subsequently provided him with inspiration for his own topographical and imaginative work. Griggs’s experiments with etching began in 1895 but it was not until 1912, the year of his conversion to Roman Catholicism, that he created his first mature works in the medium. Thereafter, it remained his primary means of artistic expression. His profound faith reinforced his deep-seated love of the countryside and medieval architecture. His reputation as an etcher was unsurpassed as acknowledged by his election to the Royal Academy in 1931. Demonstrating an equal mastery of meticulous architectural detail and poetic effects of light and atmosphere, he created images of compelling visionary intensity. Griggs rented Dover’s House in Chipping Campden for twenty years before designing and
constructing his final home, New Dover’s House, which almost bankrupted him and remained unfinished at his death. Griggs collaborated with the renowned Arts & Crafts architect and designer, Ernest Gimson, on various projects, including several local war memorials. Later, in 1929 he founded the Campden Trust together with Gimson’s pupil Norman Jewson, the preserver of Owlpen Manor. The Ashmolean Museum’s collection of Griggs’s work is unrivalled and the exhibition displays nearly forty examples spanning his career, including volumes of Highways and Byways, etchings (over one third of the fifty-seven produced), fascinating preparatory drawings, and superb watercolours. Works never previously exhibited will be shown together with loans from private collections. Held in the 140th anniversary of his birth, this is the first opportunity in over 15 years to examine the range of Griggs’s achievement and is presented in the Cotswold locality that he made his own. A Taste Of… THAILAND
T
he first UK Thai Square Restaurant was opened during 1996, in The Strand, Central London. Now, having several venues in London and also other UK locations, with more planned, Thai cuisine can be enjoyed, at many destinations, with this multi awardwinning company. Ingredients are flown in daily, from Thailand. Mixed starters is a sharing dish and includes vegetable spring rolls, chicken satay and much more. This is a firm favourite. Mains include stir-fried dishes, plus curried and grilled cuisine. Seafood, noodles and rice dishes also feature on their splendid menu. Bangkok lamb and Chu Chi Goong (Tiger prawn in chuchee curry, cooked with coconut cream , lime leaf and sweet basil) have a following of devotees. A selection of superb desserts complete the dining experience. The brigade of chefs ensure highquality, with both cooking and presentations, providing subtle and also intense fragrances and flavours, at all times. The service is impeccable. Exotic cocktails, plus wines and drinks, from worldwide destinations, are available and I found the multi award-winning Monsoon Valley Thai wines, exceptional. From their Premium Range, Colombard (white), Shiraz (red) and Shiraz (rosé) are all chosen regularly. Having splendid bouquets and being very well structured these productions are enjoyed by many. Chenin Blanc Late Harvest is ‘flagship’, superbly aromatic and has nectar-like qualities. Impressive – very impressive! Jargon-Busting TAX ADVICE
H
ere’s how it normally works: you’re told you could benefit from efficient tax planning and management. That kind of makes sense, doesn’t it? You then talk to some accountants and everything stops making sense! Why does it turn into gobbledygook? Nobody likes gobbledygook. That's why our Tax Tips guide comes stripped of the standard gibberish and just focuses on what you need to know to save tax today, tomorrow and as you plan for the future. My top tips are: Tip 1 - Try to incur expenditure just before rather than just after the year end, as this will accelerate the tax relief. Examples of the type of expenditure to consider bringing forward include building repairs and redecorating, advertis-
ing and marketing campaigns and expenditure on plant and machinery. Tip 2 - In most small companies the directors and shareholders are one and the same and so they can choose the most tax efficient way to pay themselves. Using dividends can result in savings in NIC. This requires planning and needs to take account of the new Dividend allowance and dividend rates of tax. Tip 3 - Don’t forget to use the Dividend and savings allowances introduced form 6 April 2016. These allowances tax £5,000 of dividends and up to £1,000 of savings income at 0%. Tip 4 – There is nothing to stop you employing your children in the family business so as to take advantage of their personal allowance. There are age restrictions (generally 13 years old) and

legal limitations as to the type and duration of the work. It is also essential that payment is only made for actual work carried out for the business and at a reasonable commercial rate. Our Taxes Made Easy booklet is available online via our website www.hwca.com or contact us direct to obtain a copy. Tim Pearce is managing partner of Haines Watts in Evesham and Worcester and specialises in helping owner-managed businesses, in particular those looking for a more hands-on approach. Heritage Open Day 2016
B
ishampton History Society and the Friends of St. James are joining forces for September’s Heritage Open Days event on Saturday 10th at the village church. Highlights will include bell tower trips, a screening of the Battle of the Somme film, and displays featuring Bishampton’s involvement with WW1 battles. For the second year running visitors will be able to join a guided tour by volunteers from the Friends of St. James to access the narrow spiral staircase to the 14th century tower to see the six bells cast by Worcester-based William Bagley – and learn about their background as an important part of the church’s history. A display on the ancient skill of bell ringing will also feature in the church, tying neatly into one of the Heritage Open Day themes this year (see www.heritageopen days.org.uk).
24
The silent Battle of the Somme film, on loan from the Imperial War Museum, will be screened continuously throughout the event and is a fitting reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served. Commissioned by the War Office in 2016, it was the first feature-length documentary about war and recorded the first major offensive in which the British army took the major part on the Western Front during the First World War. Visitors will also be able to see displays about Bishampton’s Battles – where soldiers from the village were killed including:The Battle of Loos, Northern France, (Private Joseph Masters Ludlow on 26 September 1915) Action at Bouchavesnes, one of the battles for the Somme, Northern France (Private Harry Stephen Crouch, 7 March 1917) Battle of Thiepval, one of the Battles of the Somme, Northern France (Private John William Morris, 3 July 1916) Battle of Ypres, Belgium (Acting Corporal Harry Thomas, 22 April 1916 and Private George Follows, 5 June 1916)
A poignant entry in Bishampton’s School Log on 16th March 1917 really hits home what it must have been like to lose a family member in the war at that time: ‘Heard this morning that Harry Crouch, an old scholar, has been killed while serving in France. His sister received the news through the chaplain. Poor Harry was identified by letters found upon his body.’ A tapestry designed and made by local resident and textile artist, Michelle Flint, commemorating the project will be on display for the first time and it is hoped that this will find a permanent hanging space in the church. Children will be able to enjoy a variety of activities based around Heritage Open Day and refreshments will also be available from 10am-4pm. Tower trips (which do not need to be pre-booked) will feature throughout the day with a maximum of six people for each tour. For more information about Bishampton History Society see www.bishampton.org.uk; for Friends of St. James see http:// fosj.no-ip.biz or telephone 07854 362318.

I
f you'd like a brilliant day out now that the summer has arrived, there's nothing quite so enjoyable as a village fete. My family meet up annually at Hallow fete and it is such a lovely day out, with so much going on. When we arrived there was already a big queue for the donkey rides, and the funfair swings, but what set the children screaming with delight was a wonderful bright yellow train that took all the family for a fun ride around the field. There were a wide selection of stalls selling bric-a-brac, jewellery, sweets, jams, honey, and pickle, and would you believe you could buy an ice-cream from a stop-meand-buy-one, old fashion tricycle. The stall selling designer patchwork doorstops was brilliant, plus there were crafts, making cards, and knitted toys. I was amazed at the quality of the handmade wooden clocks, bowls, and ornaments, plus they had a woodwork
bench, with the carpenter showing how to make each item. Some stalls had games for the children while others entertained the whole family, like the coconut shy, shooting gallery, and tombola. The archery stall was very interesting; we watched the stallholder take a shaft of wood clamp it in a vice and turn it into a longbow, which he then strung and showed people how to use. You could smell the freshly baked bread across the field, and the cakes looked yummy. The food tent was packed, and we had some delicious pork rolls for lunch. There was a brilliant falconry display, four ladies belly-dancing, and two ladies singing old wartime songs. The vintage cars were fantastic, and there were lots old farm tractors, steam traction engines, and one magnificent miniature steam engine, that chugged in and out of the crowds. There was also a photographic competition and a flower show.
I thought the Morris Dancers were really good fun with their painted black faces and colourful costumes, and their dancing was great, especially with the sticks. Years ago, in winter time, on the Welsh borders, when the earth was frozen, the farm labourers couldn't work the fields. They were starving and begging was against the law. So, they banded together, dressed up in fancy costumes, and went out dancing on the street for money. They used burned cork to black their faces so neighbours or police wouldn't recognise them. Today many people object to their blacked faces, feeling that they may cause offence. But, Morris dancing is a tradition and not meant to offend. What an enjoyable and interesting day out. I hope the summer fete never goes out of fashion, as it is a wonderful tradition, shows how talented people are, and unites the whole village. article & photos by Pamela Green 29

Kittens galore ... ! are still many unwanted kittens handed in to the rescue centre. This puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on the resources at the centre and can slow the process of homing adult cats as the kittens can be very appealing.
I
t is with with a huge thank you to The Worcestershire Grapevine magazine that, Jonah, the black cat featured in the last edition has a lovely new home. His new owner was reading the magazine, saw the article and came and offered Jonah a home, where he is very happy and settled in immediately, as can been seen from the photo above.
Although kittens are great fun and are a pleasure to have in your home, they soon grow up. Cats can reproduce from as early as 6 months, while they are still young themselves. If they are not neutered at this age they can be responsible for thousands of unwanted cats. By neutering early it means that the cat will be happier and healthier and it will stop any surprises. If you are considering a new addition to your home please
visit us at the rescue, where the kittens are sure to entertain you ... but be sure you have thought about what you are taking on. We are happy to talk to you about taking on a kitten and what maybe involved. Cats Protection supports neutering and if you are struggling to pay to have your cat neutered, then you maybe able to apply for a voucher towards the cost of this. Please apply to the rescue on 01386 833343. Editor's note: the kittens in the photo below have now been homed, but there are still many others at the Cats Protection.
Good news for Jonah, but there are still many cats waiting for their new homes. In addition, with it being summer months we are inundated with kittens at the rescue. Sadly people are still not having their adults cat neutered and every year there

The Rumours Aren't True!
I
’ve got to warn you. There are false rumours going around about strength training. The truth is that strength training is one of the absolute best things you can do for your health and appearance. If you’ve fallen for these 5 myths then you’re missing out on tremendous potential results. Myth Number 1 - Muscle Turns Into Fat Why would anyone want to build muscle if it could morph into fat after a span of disuse? Rest assured that this is a myth of the highest order. Muscle tissue is muscle tissue. Fat tissue is fat tissue. One will never become the other. Myth Number 2 - Strength Training Doesn’t Burn Fat On the contrary, muscle mass is your number one ally against fat gains. A pound of muscle burns 10-20 calories each day, while you’re just living and breathing. Regular 32
strength training helps you increase your muscle mass as well as preserve existing muscle mass, turning you into a fat burning machine. Myth Number 3 - Lifting Weights Makes Women Bulk Up Yes, strength training increases the amount of muscle on your body; so many women take this to mean that their body will become body-builder-esque, which is not quite the look you’re going for. The truth is that the female body simply doesn’t contain high enough levels of testosterone to produce that level of results without a very focused and dedicated effort. The tighter, toned figure of a recreational female weight lifter is every bit feminine. Myth Number 4 - Strength Training Is For Young People Only Ha! That’s a used-up excuse that senior citizens across the globe have shattered.
Assuming that your doctor has given you the OK, you have much to gain from a regular weight lifting routine. Improved balance and coordination, better strength and flexibility, and a decreased risk of osteoporosis are just the beginning. Myth Number 5 - Use Light Weight and High Reps To Tone This myth, popularised in the 90’s, that very high repetitions of very light weights would result in a toned physique, has become outdated. These high repetitions will increase your muscular endurance but will not add strength or tone. We now know that in order to truly challenge your muscles, heavier weights with lower repetitions are a must. Start with an 8-10 repetition range and push your muscles with each set. Including strength training as a part of your fitness routine is essential for achieving a fit and toned body.

I’m also adding in a recipe this month for you to try: Low Carb Meatball Pizza Ingredients Olive oil spray 6 eggs 60 ml milk ¼ teaspoon sea salt ¼ teaspoon black pepper 4 tablespoons of pizza sauce 2oz of goat cheese, crumbled 1 tomato, sliced 12 chicken meatballs, sliced in half Bunch of fresh basil, sliced into ribbons ◆◆ Place a large oven-proof skillet over mediumhigh heat. Lightly grease with olive oil spray. ◆◆ In a large bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, sea salt and black pepper until fully combined and frothy. Pour the egg mixture into the preheated skillet and reduce the heat to medium-low.
◆◆ Do not disturb the eggs as they set. Occasionally lift the edges of the egg and tilt the pan to allow any runny eggs on top to pour under the firmer egg. The idea is to maintain a nice round shape like a pizza crust. Once the egg is set, remove from the heat. ◆◆ Spread the pizza sauce over the top of the egg, as you would on a pizza. Top with the goat cheese, tomato, meatballs and fresh basil. ◆◆ Place the skillet in the oven under high grill for 2-4 minutes, until the meatballs are warmed and the cheese is melted. Serve and enjoy! Nutritional Analysis: One serving equals: 297 calories, 20g fat, 8g carbohydrate, 1g fibre, and 23g protein. he Pershore Heritage and History Society have been working with Professor Maggie Andrews of the University of Worcester and Jenni Waugh, community historian, to research and write How the Pershore Plum Won the Great War, a history of our townspeople's Home Front experience during World War One. The book will available for sale from the Heritage Centre during the Plum Festival 2016. It will mark the high point of our World War One in the Vale project, which has been funded thanks to a ÂŁ10,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Here are a few stories from our research which I hope will tempt you to buy the book.

The fruit grown in this area was very important to the nation's war effort. Prior to the outbreak of war, Britain imported 60% of its food - cereals from the USA, dried fruits from Europe and Africa, and sugar from the AustroHungarian Empire. With enemy U-boats patrolling Britain's waters, the nation was in danger of being cut off from its food supply. At one stage, the Government was afraid that there were only 6 weeks of food-stocks remaining to feed civilians at home and servicemen abroad. The fruits and vegetables grown in the orchards, market gardens and smallholdings of Pershore and the Vale of Evesham were especially valuable as they could easily be preserved by drying, pulping or transforming into jam. Many Pershore women, who had previously helped their husbands to manage the orchards and market gardens, now found themselves in sole charge of both family and smallholdings.
Despite the special training women in the Land Army received in dairy work, fruit picking and cultivation, some farmers still thought women incapable of agricultural work. The book includes many extracts from memoirs of these pioneer 'land girls' whose energy and enthusiasm soon disproved the doubters. By the time the Women's Land Army was established in 1917, Pershore was well ahead in terms of volunteer organisation. When conscription was introduced in 1916, some farmers applied for exemption for their male labourers, like Mr George Brighton of the Coventry Arms Inn, Pinvin. Appealing to the Military Tribunal on behalf of Walter Moss, Mr Brighton said Moss was all the help he had on his dairy farm to manage 20 head of cattle, milk 9 cows, deliver the village milk round and harvests the hay. The Tribunal granted Moss a conditional exemption from military service.

Pershore was also at the centre of attempts to mechanise agriculture. Tractors and farm equipment were produced at the Humphries family's Atlas Works near Pershore Station, for sale around the country. Pershore and Pinvin farmers each formed co-operatives to buy labour saving devices like a tractor and potato seed drill, which subscribers to the schemes could share. The potato drill was kept in the old Fire Station on Bridge Street. In November 1916, as familiar foods became scarcer, Pershore Women's Institute was established in the Masonic Hall behind the Angel Inn, so that women could work together producing, preparing and preserving food and learn valuable skills to cope with wartime conditions. Pershore WI will be 100 years old this year and are working with us on this research project, having also won £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Our book closes with news of a family wedding, brought about by the upheaval of war, and a description of the happy carnival and reverent Service of Thanksgiving held at Pershore Abbey once peace was finally declared in 1919.

Questions that are answered in the book: • An Evesham soldier shot for desertion in 1915 but was it really desertion? • Who was the soldier allowed home from the Somme to help with the harvesting? • How were Tom Slaney and Fanny Cole brought together in wartime? • Did the German POWs really spoil the potato crop? • What important role did Mr Geoffrey Hooper play in the town? • What was the verdict when a baby’s body was found in the Avon? • In which country was the Women’s Institute founded and when did it start in Pershore? • How was salt used to preserve fruit? • The fruit was collected in willow baskets made by the Spiers family and were stamped PPPP and was immediately given another name by the locals. What did they call it? Buy the book to find the answers and many other stories plus photos of old Pershore.

"The good news," Frank said, "is that there is golf in heaven. Better yet, all of our old buddies are here too. Better than that, we're all young again, , it's always summertime and it never rains. And, best of all, we can play golf all we want and we never get tired." "That's fantastic," said Leonard. "So what's the bad news?" "You're in my foursome this Saturday!"
