Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Paul Papandreou feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people

money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Malvern, Worcester & Hereford areas and Paul is finding that his approach is a major

factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people

I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

SVR’S Golden Anniversary Year Set To Be Its Busiest Yet

T

he future’s not just bright; it’s golden for the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) as it looks forward to celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015 with a special programme of dedicated events alongside its usual schedule of family favourites. Following on from a sell-out Christmas season, which saw the return of the Railway’s ever-popular festive services including its Santa Steam Specials and Santa Heralds, staff and volunteers are now gearing-up for February 14th, when the Railway’s daily train service will resume for the half-term break. The week-long holiday will provide the first opportunity for families and visitors to get involved in the Railway’s 50th anniversary celebrations, by taking part in a special birthday quiz and colouring competition during their journey. Children and adults alike will also be able to test their skills operating a tram as part of a special guest exhibition from the Manchester Model Tramway Group, which will be bringing its unique large scale model trams to The Engine House at Highley during February halfterm. 8

Fired-up and in full-steam, the Railway’s muchloved fleet of resident locomotives will be taking visitors along the attraction’s scenic 16-mile span, from Kidderminster in Worcestershire to Bridgnorth in Shropshire, enabling them to stop off at any of the six beautifully-restored stations en-route. Opportunities to explore surrounding towns and beauty spots are endless; Bewdley is ideal for a refreshing riverside walk, and there are plenty of hungry ducks to feed at Arley. Peckish passengers can also enjoy lunch at one of the many picnic stops along the way or can re-fuel at the Flag & Whistle Food Stop, in The Engine House at Highley. Home to the SVR’s impressive collection of reserve locomotives, The Engine House also boasts an array of family-friendly interactive exhibits, a majestic Royal Carriage and a railway-themed children’s outdoor play area. Services run daily during half-term from February 14th to 22nd, and every weekend from February 28th. For more information, or to book tickets, visit www.svr.co.uk, call 01562 757900 or visit the Severn Valley Railway Families Facebook page.

Wild, Windy, and Wonderful Skye article & photos by Pamela Green

T

he moment you arrive on Skye your eyes are drawn to the mountains. They were once a mass of lava, hidden underground, but erosion has exposed its surface to create a landscape of dramatic peaks and ridges that climbers love. The Lochs are beautiful and very useful. Storr Loch and Loch Faden feed the Island’s small hydroelectric station and above the road towers The Old Man of Storr (centre photograph above). It is huge pinnacles of rock standing in front of Storr Ridge, which rises to around 2,300 feet. The rocks look quite eerie reaching up into the clouds.

magnificent sea (or white-tailed) eagle. This is Britain’s largest and rarest bird of prey. They are fairly easy to distinguish with a brown body and pale head and neck and white tail feathers. Sea eagles have a slightly scruffy look and when in flight their massive wings have clear fingered ends and a wedge shaped tail. Eagles were persecuted to the point of extinction by 1930 and the current population is thriving. Thanks to a reintroduction project there is now a healthy population on the island.

The Isle of Skye is special even by Scottish standards. This is the home of the Golden Eagle, Red Dear, and the playful Otter. But it is also the land of lichen, moss and fern, with rare Alpine flowers. This coastline provides some of the most spectacular scenery to be found anywhere in Britain. Take a walk down to the shore and you will see the rock pools full of anemones, sponges, and coral seaweeds. They reminded me of my childhood and of how rock pools used to be.

The headlands of Skye are home to thousands of nesting seabirds including Fulmar, Kittiwake, Shag, Razorbill, and both common and black Guillemots. Ravens, Buzzards, Gannets, and even Puffins claim their space. But I feel the most spectacular sight was that of Minke Whales and Porpoises just gliding through the water. I found it delightful when a dolphin leapt vertically free of the water and then returned to the surface with a tremendous “whack”. It was quite a distance away yet the sound carried like a crack of a whip.

The Golden Eagles nest on the cliffs and if the sea is calm you can take boat trips to get a closer look. You will also find the

My time on Skye was wonderful. I always feel we should take time to stop and look. The wildlife is out there just waiting to be discovered.

Cats in need of love for Valentine's Day

T

his month we are featuring more cats needing love this February. They found themselves unloved for Valentine's day ... do you have room in your heart and home to give these cats the love they need ? We have given them love and attention and they are neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and have had flea and worm treatments. We ask for an adoption fee when you rehome a CP cat to cover the costs of the treatment that they have had. We are also keen to remind people that this is a important time of year to get your cat neutered.

Un-neutered cats will also be looking for love this Valentine's day! From five months old, cats will start reproducing, so now is the time to get an appointment with the vet. From March to October we have many litters of kittens at the rescue centre needing new homes, as a result we are sometimes so short of space that we cannot take other cats in. We urge you to have your cat neutered and help keep the number of unwanted kittens to a minimum. Some financial assistance can be provided to cat owners who are on benefits, applications considered.

***** Willow

Willow is looking for a loving home. She is about 4 years old, and although a little shy to begin with, she is a friendly cat once she gets to know you. She came in to our care when her owner fell ill, and we are hoping to find her a new home as soon as possible. Choccie was found as a stray in a garden, desperate for food to feed her kittens. She is now in our care and would like a permanent home. She has a lot of energy, and enjoys getting attention and gives lots back. We think she is about 2 years old, and would be happy in a family home with a garden to explore.

Make a Difference … Volunteer!

I

f you’ve not considered volunteering or were wondering why local charities and groups need the support of volunteers, then here are the benefits of giving your time and expertise:

It’s an opportunity to give something back to your community

A chance to gain skills and experience and a pathway into work

A way of sharing your knowledge and life experience to benefit others

A way to make friends, offer peer support and social interaction with like-minded people

 

It can increase your self-esteem and confidence

It increases the range and diversity of people involved in service planning and delivery – making services more accessible to everyone who needs them

16

You can make a difference to service delivery or be an advocate for change

It encourages personal pride and fulfilment and the feeling of being valued

 

It benefits your health and wellbeing

Through volunteering, you can actively contribute to the quality and value of health and care services

It enables the organisations you volunteer with to reach more people

It allows greater involvement and awareness of local services in your community

SAY ‘SO LONG’ TO LONELINESS RETIREES could swap cold and lonely winter nights for warm and welcoming times with new found friends with a move to Eastbank Court in Worcester.

Many older people worry about venturing outside in wintery conditions but by staying in they can become lonely and isolated. In contrast, Eastbank Court offers plenty of opportunities to ‘go out, while staying in’, enabling older people to spend time in the company of likeminded individuals. Liz Herring, Sales and Marketing Manager for Aspen, says: “February is generally one of the coldest and darkest winter months and for those in later years the weather conditions can cause problems. Some may worry about the cost of heating a draughty old house that’s now too large for them; while others may be reluctant to go outside for fear of slipping on ice. “Moving to somewhere like Eastbank Court can ease some of those concerns as our apartments are full of energy efficient measures that make them warm and less costly to run. Plus with hotel style facilities, including a restaurant and piano room with licensed bar, homeowners can socialise with friends and neighbours without having to face the elements.”

Homeowners will be able to relax and enjoy the privacy of living in their own home, while also being able to access facilities such as a library, activities room, plus hair salon and treatment room. A growing programme of activities includes armchair aerobics enabling people to keep fit and games of Scrabble in the library to exercise the mind. A ‘knit ‘n’ natter’ session takes place once a week, plus there are regular coffee mornings, chances to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea and monthly trips to the theatre. Residents and their families will also enjoy peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that there’s a manager on site at all times. Located on Eastbank Drive, Northwick, the Aspen Retirement development is ideally placed in a quiet residential area. There’s a post office, shop and chemist close by; while the city centre is easily accessible by bus. For more information call 01905 455 182 or see www.aspenretirement. co.uk/developments/eastbank-court.

Eastbank Court offers a choice of one and twobedroom apartments priced from £192,000. 18

The Divorce

After the divorce, the now ex-wife had to pack her bags and leave her house. She sat down for the last time at her beautiful dining room table, put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of prawns. When she had finished, she went into every room and placed a few prawn shells into the hollow of the curtain rods. When the husband returned with his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days. Then slowly, the house began to smell. They tried everything: cleaning, mopping and airing the place out. Vents were checked for dead rodents and carpets were steam cleaned. Air fresheners were hung everywhere. Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which they had to move out for a few days, and in the end they even paid to replace the expensive wool carpeting. Nothing worked! People stopped coming over to visit. Repairmen refused to work in the house. The maid quit. Finally, they could not take the stench any longer and decided to move.

A month later, even though they had cut their price in half, they could not find a buyer for their smelly house. Word got out and eventually even the local estate agents refused to return their calls. Finally, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to buy a new house. A few days later, the ex-wife called her former husbandand asked how things were going. He told her the saga of the rotting house. She listened politely and said that she missed her old home terribly and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for getting the house back.

She agreed and within the hour his solicitor delivered the paperwork.

Dormy House is

AA Hotel of the Year Top hotel award goes to the Cotswolds' newest refurbished hotel and spa

D

ormy House in Broadway has scooped the top hotel award in England, becoming AA Hotel of the Year 2014-15. “This award is the AA’s ultimate accolade for hotels recognised as being outstanding examples in their field,” said TV presenter Fiona Bruce. “This much-loved and privately-owned hotel has undergone a complete transformation. Great hospitality and food define the hotel of the year for England.” The award, sponsored by Temple Spa, was announced on Monday night at the climax to a glittering ceremony in London’s Grosvenor House. Afterwards, Dormy’s CEO Andrew Grahame thanked the teams who contributed to this achievement. “AA Hotel of the Year is one of the UK’s most prestigious hospitality awards and we were thrilled even to reach the final shortlist, let alone be given the title,” he said. “The AA Hotel of the Year award recognizes the huge effort everyone at the hotel has made since it re-opened. 24

We’ve also had unending support from the Sorensen family, who have been involved throughout. Winning Hotel of the Year for England in the AA Hospitality Awards so soon after opening the new hotel and spa is a dream come true.” Often referred to as the industry’s Oscars, the AA Hospitality Awards recognise a few of the thousands of British hotels with an AA rating. Only one establishment in England is awarded Hotel of the Year. Previous winners include Lime

Wood in the New Forest and Gravetye Manor in Sussex. Dormy House was bought by the Sorensen family in 1977 and over 36 years gained a loyal reputation for its warm country welcome. In 2013, the family invested in a multi-million pound refurbishment, with a complete interior redesign by London duo Todhunter Earle and a new destination spa by Sparcstudio. In May, the transformation was completed with the launch of a luxury sister venue, Foxhill Manor, for exclusive-use weddings, house parties and corporate retreats. “Our original aim, to be a beacon of modern, relaxed hospitality in the Cotswolds, has struck a note with visitors from all over the world,” said Andrew Grahame. “We have received fantastic reviews in national and international press and we aim to be known as one of the finest hotels in the UK. This award is a wonderful recognition that will help us achieve that goal.”

Serve up fresh potatoes, straight from your back garden

Grow your own ... C

oncerns over pesticides and genetically modified crops have got many people thinking about growing their own fruit and vegetables. But you don't have to be green-fingered or even have a garden to start growing your own food. Potatoes can be grown from a sack with little to no effort at all. If the closest you've come to growing your own vegetables was cultivating some cress on a piece of damp cotton wool when you were a kid, then potatoes are a great place to start.

This is because they are one of the easiest and most rewarding vegetables to grow and you don't need acres of space, or even a garden to get a perfect crop. All you need is a grow sack, seed potatoes and plenty of patience and you can create a mouthwatering harvest on a patio, balcony or even roof garden. Not only that, but dedicated spud lovers can grow the earliest potatoes possible.

seed manufacturers Marshall's have come up with a handy GroSack with carry handles which means that unlike potato barrels, you can move it wherever you want - freeing space in the greenhouse or balcony, just when you need it. So you've got your sack or barrel, you've got your seed potatoes and you're ready to start growing potatoes. Still feeling unsure? Don't worry, to help you along the way Marshall's have compiled a list of helpful hints to ensure perfect spuds every time. Six steps to perfect potatoes 1. Before you start planting your seed potatoes place them in a cool, light area to encourage strong sturdy shoots to grow before they are planted in the ground. For all you non-gardeners out there, this process is called chitting. 2. Find the end of the potato with the most sprouts forming (called the rose end), this needs to be exposed to the light to promote growth.

swollen region of an underground root) upright in an egg box with the rose end skyward. Keep them in a light frost-free place to let the shoots develop. 4. When shoots are up to one centimetre plant three in the growsack or barrel in a layer of 10-15cm of soil-based compost, burying them completely. 5. As the tubers start to grow keep burying them by adding another 10-15cm of soil until the grow-sack or barrel is full to within a couple of inches of the brim. 6. When your grow-sack or barrel is full the tubers will start to leaf up. As soon as the leaves have flowered the potatoes are ready to eat. If you're new to growing your own vegetables, a beginner's kit such as Marshall's Gro-sacks will help you get started. They come in packs of three, complete with nine seed potatoes. For a gourmet crop, try a taster kit of three grow-sacks with three tubers each of Charlotte, Swift and Maris Peer.

So whether you're an avid gardener or kill every plant you own, have a 10 acre garden or no more than a There are two main types of potato balcony, potatoes are a vegetable growing containers: a barrel or a 3. The Cheeseboard 100 Barnard's Green, Malvern, WR14 3ND

01684 891900

Ribblesdale Cheese by Andrew Brooks

O

riginally started by Iain Hill in the early 1980's, the Ribblesdale Cheese Co. is now run by his niece Iona with partners Stuart and Andrew. The company is based in Hawes, and all the cheese is made by hand. This superior goat cheese with a fresh and delicate flavour, contains pasteurised goats’ milk and is suitable for vegetarians; smooth and mild. Ribblesdale also produce an outstanding blue cheese, with a creamy yet tangy flavour. Sheep and Goat milk cheeses are becoming more and more popular as the cholesterol levels are a lot lower than cows' milk cheeses. They are a little more expensive than cows milk cheeses due to the fact that the average goat only produces 2-3 litres of milk a day as against 20-30 litres produced by a cow. A great cheese which can be used in many ways: sliced, diced, grated and in cooking.

Got high cholesterol?

T

hese days it takes more than an apple a day to keep the doctor off your back. The good doc is going to pester you about your blood pressure and cholesterol levels apple or not. And who can blame him? Whether you’ve had your blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked lately or not, these conditions are deadly and sneaky - many people are unaware of the danger lurking in their own arteries. What’s so bad about high blood pressure and cholesterol levels? In a nutshell, these conditions raise your chances for having a stroke, kidney failure, heart disease or heart attack. Here’s the lowdown:

pressure is higher than normal. If your blood pressure is 140/90 or higher then you officially have high blood pressure. Cholesterol is also recorded in two numbers high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and lowdensity lipoproteins (LDL). The distinction between HDL and LDL is actually quite important - LDL delivers cholesterol to your body while HDL removes cholesterol from your bloodstream. In other words, HDL cholesterol is good and LDL cholesterol is bad. When there is extra cholesterol in your bloodstream it lines your arteries, causing them to narrow. These deposits can block an artery that flows to your heart - resulting in a heart attack, or they can block an artery that flows to your brain - resulting in a stroke.

Blood Pressure is recorded in two numbers. The first describes your systolic blood pressure. This is the pressure when your heart is squeezing blood out. The second is your diastolic blood pressure. This is the pressure between heartbeats, when your heart is filling with blood.

Healthy adults should aim for total cholesterol of 5mmol/l or less and LDL-Cholesterol of 3mmol/l or less.

The ideal blood pressure to have is 120/80 or lower. Blood pressure that falls between 120/80 and 140/90 is considered to be prehypertension - meaning that your blood

Other heart disease risk factors such as weight, diabetes and high blood pressure all show improvement with regular exercise. Let’s be totally honest for a moment. Sure, you may be taking medication, but you need to fix the problem rather than simply hold it off. If exercise isn’t currently part of your lifestyle you will be amazed at how it will improve your health once you start. I’m sure your doctor could share a myriad of success stories involving people just like you who dramatically improved their blood pressure and cholesterol through exercise. Exercise is the answer. Lemon Tart

Baked Camembert

This classic French dessert combines buttery smooth pastry with a zesty citrus filling; the perfect end to a summer dinner party. Use ready-made shortcrust pastry if you don't have a food processor to make it from scratch.

Enjoy one of the best-known French cheeses in a delicious way, bursting with flavour and coated in breadcrumbs. Make sure the cheese is not too ripe and freeze before cooking to ensure the centre melts when baking.

Serves 4 Serves 8-12 Ingredients For the pastry: 75g butter 4 tbsp icing sugar 125g plain flour To garnish: mint sprigs sliced strawberries

For the filling: 3 eggs 200g castor sugar 1 tbsp lemon zest 4 tbsp lemon juice 3 tbsp plain flour 2 tbsp icing sugar to dust

Method

Ingredients 4 individual or one large Camembert cut into approximately 80g wedges, frozen for 1 hour. 25g plain flour 1 egg beaten with 1tbsp water 25g breadcrumbs 50ml sunflower oil raspberry coulis or cranberry sauce to garnish Method ● Preheat oven to 200C/400F/Gas Mark 6.

Preheat oven to 1800C/3500F/Gas Mark 4.

In a food processor, mix the butter, icing sugar and flour for 10 seconds to make the pastry. Pat the pastry evenly into a 23cm tart tin and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.

Remove the Camembert from the freezer and carefully cut the white skin from the top, while leaving the bottom and sides intact. Coat well on all sides with the flour.

Dip the coated Camembert in the egg mix and coat with breadcrumbs, then repeat both steps. Pat well to help the crumbs stick, then place in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Heat the oil over a medium heat. Remove the cheeses from the fridge and fry lightly on each side until light golden brown approximately 1-2 minutes. Make sure the cheese does not begin to melt. Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels.

Place the lightly-browned cheeses on a lined baking tray and bake in the oven for 5-10 minutes or until the top is slightly puffed.

Serve immediately with a raspberry coulis or cranberry sauce.

While the pastry is in the oven, combine the eggs, caster sugar, lemon zest, juice and the flour and mix until smooth.

Remove pastry from the oven and pour the mixture over while the case is hot. Return to oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until firm.

Remove from the oven and let the tart cool completely.

Dust with icing sugar and garnish with strawberry slices or mint sprigs. Cut into slices and serve with creme fraiche or vanilla ice-cream.

OVER 50 YEARS of compassion DO YOU TRUST YOUR LOCAL FUNERAL DIRECTOR?

J

udging by the cards and messages of thanks we receive at E Hill & Son Funeral Directors, I am sure the answer to this question is a 100% yes. So why is it that some people choose to buy a pre-paid funeral plan from a commission based sales person they don’t know? Maybe it’s because of the tactics of being cold-called and put on the spot with how much funeral charges have risen in the last year or so? This is something a selfrespecting Funeral Director would never do. I am not disputing the fact that due to third party charges, the cost of a funeral has escalated sharply in the last few years and that to take out a funeral plan may be a good idea. But, doesn’t it make sense to approach your trusted, local, family funeral director, who has served your family and

36

the community for years and who will ultimately carry out these arrangements? If you are interested in taking out a Funeral Plan, or just wish to talk to someone about recording your wishes, then please come to the experts. We believe that every plan is bespoke as every funeral is unique. We take note of the finer details, giving you that personal touch you deserve and more often than not, our plans are less expensive. Open Business Complete Guide to Starting your Business

Complete Guide to Starting your Business

O

ver the last 20 years, the number of people who have “sacked the boss” and become self-employed has risen sharply to an all-time high of nearly 4.5million in 2014. One of the reasons for this is the number of people who lost their jobs as a result of the Credit Crunch and ensuing recession. Many of these people experienced the same thing during the previous recession in the early 1990’s, and so decided to take control of their lives and start up on their own. Sadly however, a large percentage of new startups are doomed to failure: statistics have shown that 25% will fail within the first 12 months, and 25% of the remainder will fail within the first 2 years. In terms of numbers, this means that 54 out 100 new businesses will cease to exist within 2 years of starting up. Why does this happen? Quite simply: lack of preparation, or to quote Theo Paphatis (of Dragon’s Den fame) failure to do the necessary homework. In today’s complex and highly competitive business world, it’s not enough just to be good at what you do in order to start and run a successful business, particularly if you are starting out as a ‘one-man-band’. You will literally be doing everything yourself, and if you don’t know how to do it, and do it correctly, things will start to unravel very quickly. You could be the best plumber or electrician, or the smartest computer technician on the planet, but if you don’t know how to invoice your customers, or balance your books, or back-up your computer, or where to advertise, or …. well, you get the idea.

40

The days when you could just stick a handwritten advert in a local shop window, and then start trading are long gone. Nowadays, to set up and run a business successfully requires skills and knowledge that the average person simply doesn’t have, and the way to acquire them is … training! In the same way as you trained to be a graphics designer, a bookkeeper or a hairdresser, so you need to train to be businessman (or woman); you need to learn how to set up your business, step by step, so that nothing is left to chance and everything is in place – all i’s dotted and t’s crossed – from day one. Open 4 Business offers simple, easy to follow training in the form of a one-day workshop, covering all aspects of setting up a new business from choosing the right name for your business, to setting up a limited company, all the way through to preparing a contingency plan to deal with financial difficulties. The workshops are held on Saturdays at the Hilton Hotel in Tewkesbury – easy access from the M50 and M5, and plenty of free parking. Alternatively, if you are just too busy or too far away to attend a workshop, the course material is available to buy either in printed format or as a pdf. “Open 4 Business” Have you recently started your own business? Are you thinking about starting your own business in the near future? Would you like to start your own business?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then Open 4 Business is the essential business workshop for you. According to Theo Paphatis (former star of Dragon’s Den) 50% of start-ups fail within the first couple of years because “… people don’t do their homework”. Open 4 Business is a straightforward, easy to follow, one-day workshop that will take you through all the steps you need to make sure your business hits the ground running. The workshop is run in small groups (maximum 10 people) from 10am to 6pm

on Saturdays (so no need to take time off work!) and the fee includes all course material and refreshments. For more details or to book your place on the next workshop, please contact:

I was in the six item express lane at the supermarket quietly fuming because, completely ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into the check-out line pushing a cart piled high with groceries! Imagine my delight when the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward looked into the cart and asked sweetly, "So which six items would you like to buy?"

Back to School for Bishampton History Society

B

ishampton History Society will be going back to the classroom to talk to pupils from Flyford Flavell School History club about World War 1 after the half-term break in February. Over a five week period in an after-school session, Year 4 students will have the chance to undertake a project with the help of BHS members to find out more about the soldiers named on their village’s war memorial, and understand what they, and their families, were faced with. Drawing on the Society’s work on their own War Memorial from which the project which attracted Heritage Lottery Funding emerged, the children will use the internet and other sources to create a biography of the soldiers named by adopting one personally, and using artefacts to bring the past to life. Ultimately they will conduct an assembly for the rest of the school based on their findings and create a piece of artwork in commemoration of the soldiers who served to be hung in the school hall. Mike Rickard, Bishampton History Society’s chair, said: “We are delighted to be working with Flyford Flavell School on this project which mirrors the research we have started and are continuing on our own War Memorial names. Our aim is to connect with all members of the local communities for mutual benefit, so we are particularly pleased

to be working with young people to further their knowledge. “We can help the children find the right sources to explore based on our own experience and shed some light on how to communicate their findings. We are also looking forward to being involved with the creation of a piece of artwork to honour those who served their community.” Headteacher Rosalind Brotherton, said: “This is a fantastic initiative and we are pleased that Bishampton History Society approached us to be involved. “We have had an enthusiastic response from the children and I’m sure it will provide a really useful insight into using the internet and other sources of information for research, as well as enabling them to relate more closely to memories of the First World War. We look forward to seeing how the project develops over the coming weeks.” If you have any artefacts or memories to share for the project contact Mike Rickard at:
