Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Paul Papandreou feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people

money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Malvern, Worcester & Hereford areas and Paul is finding that his approach is a major

factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people

I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Hello and welcome to the January issue of

Grapevine TThe Worcestershire

Happy New Year! And may 2015 be better for you than last year but not as good as next! And if you are still trying to find ways to use up that left-over turkey, have a look at this month's recipe on page 34. This month we have appeals from the Citizens Advice Bureau, Community Action Malvern and AGE UK for volunteers, so if you have a little time to spare, give them a call. If you haven't yet thrown out all the envelopes from your Christmas cards, please help the Evesham Greyhound & Lurcher rescue by sending them the stamps. This is something you can do througout the year - but don't try to peel the stamps off the envelopes; just cut round them, leaving a small border of paper. And if 2015 is your year to "give the boss the sack" and start your own business, then the workshop on page 43 is something you might be interested in.

The People's Project I n 1777 Scotland’s oldest canal the Forth & Clyde, originally known as the Great Canal ran 57km from coast to coast, between the ports of Bowling and Grangemouth. Barges carried a wide range of products into and out of the heart of Edinburgh. Boats and barges navigating the Forth & Clyde were raised 34 metres up to the Union Canal by eleven locks. In 1963 the A80 road opened and the Forth & Clyde was closed to through traffic. The Union canal suffered the same fate two years later when the M8 opened. The eleven lochs were closed and the wild life took over. For decades the canals lay virtually abandon, maintained only for safety. The waterways seem forgotten; that was until the people of Scotland united and the reconstruction began. In 1999 engineers started a refurbishment plan and the 8

article & photos by Pamela Green

Falkirk Wheel was built, connecting these two big canals once again. This ambitious project was officially known as the Millennium Link, but was locally known as the People's Project. Now boats can again travel from coast to coast along the canals that act as an important environmental corridor rich in wildlife and aquatic plants. The waterways boast over 30 varieties of aquatic plants, 15 species of molluscs, 33 types of water flea and even fresh water sponges. Intriguing invertebrates such as wandering snail or greater ramshore inhabit the canal bed. Pike, roach, perch, eels and even brown trout, share the waters with mallard, coots and red eared terrapins. Rare and protected plants include Bennett’s pondweed, tufted Loosestrife and Royal Fern. Otters, bats, mink, water voles, and roe deer have all been sighted and Mute Swans

nest along the canal banks. The Falkirk Wheel is a combination of engineering ingenuity and architectural imagination. It is unique, and uses only the same power as six electric kettles. As the wheel turns, water and boats contained in two large gondolas are transferred between an aqueduct linked to the upper Union Canal and, 25 metres below a basin feeding to the adjacent Forth & Clyde Canal. In doing so the boatlift reconnects, after a 70-year gap, Scotland’s two leading canals both now rescued from decades of neglect - and forms a virtual link between the isolated wildlife areas. Even the school children benefit from the canals, with nature walks, boat trips and workshops. This important environmental corridor has become one of Scotland’s most unusual tourist attractions and is well worth a visit.

How Hot Can You Handle?

C

hillies are a great plant for beginner gardeners to cut their teeth on. They require an average amount of care and can be grown indoors or outside, so whether you live in the city and grow on a patio or window sill, or have ample garden space, this plant is well worth a try and yields a delicious versatile fruit. The Scoville Scale Chilli heat is measured by the Scoville Scale. Chillies contain the chemical capsaicin, which stimulates the nerve endings in the mucous membranes, giving them a hot taste. The heat of a chilli can be affected by when it was harvested, as well as growth environment factors, such as the climate. The hottest varieties will often need the longest growing period. Different Varieties There is a huge range of chillies. Ring of Fire is a very hot cayenne variety. Cherry Bomb is fruity and medium-hot, perfect for pizza, pasta or spicy salad. Hungarian Hot Wax is an early mild chilli that produces large fruit all season. It is ideal in salads, or for pickling. 12

How to Grow When growing chillies in the UK, early sowing in January and February is the secret, to give your chilli peppers plenty of time to ripen. However they can be sown right up until the end of April. Chillies need lots of warmth to germinate, so it is wise to invest in a heated propagator for the window sill, or to use a warm airing cupboard for germination and to cover with cling film or a plastic bag. Sow chilli pepper seeds on the surface of a moist, freedraining seed compost and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place the trays at 18-25C (6477F) until they germinate. This will take seven to ten days. Transplant into growbags or pots about two litres in size. If you intend to grow them outside, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a ten-day period. By pinching out the growing tip of the first flowering shoots you can promote more branches and increase your harvest. By keeping them slightly dry you stress them

and produce hotter peppers. By mid-May it should be warm enough to put the plants outside, in a sheltered, sunny spot, or you can move them to a warm, sunny window sill or a heated greenhouse, conservatory or polytunnel. Keep the compost moist, but be conscious not to over water them. Harvesting Chilli peppers grown outdoors must be harvested before the first frosts. To store chillies, it is very simple after harvesting to air dry them for four or five weeks or to freeze them, although defrosted chillies will have a soft skin so are best used in a cooked dish. If you can make your plants survive the winter, the fruit yield will increase in the second and third years. At the end of the growing season, choose a healthy plant and cut it back to leave the stem and a few healthy branches. This plant will produce fruit earlier and more prolifically. After four or five years you will notice that the yield begins to weaken, and the plant is at the end of the fruit-bearing cycle.

The Old Mule

An old hillbilly farmer had a wife who nagged him unmercifully. From morning 'til night she was always complaining about something. The only time he got any relief was when he was out plowing with his old mule. He plowed a lot. One day, when he was out plowing, his wife brought him lunch in the field. He drove the old mule into the shade, sat down on a stump, and began to eat his lunch. Immediately, his wife began nagging him again. Complain, nag, complain, nag - it just went on and on. All of a sudden, the old mule lashed out with both hind feet, caught her smack in the back of the head. Killed her dead on the spot. At the funeral several days later, the minister noticed something rather odd. When a woman mourner would approach the old farmer, he would listen for a minute, then nod his head in agreement; but when a man mourner approached him, he would listen for a minute, then shake his head in disagreement. This was so consistent, the minister decided to ask the old farmer about it. So after the funeral, the minister spoke to the old farmer, and asked him why he nodded his head and agreed with the women, but always shook his head and disagreed with all the men. The old farmer said, "Well, the women would come up and say something about how nice my wife looked, or how pretty her dress was, so I'd nod my head in agreement." "And what about the men?" the minister asked. "They wanted to know if the mule was for sale."

mountains, clear glacial lakes, to crystal clear Adriatic waters lapping against historic walled coastal towns. A small but immensely beautiful European country, littlediscovered Montenegro enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with over 200 sunny days a year, a 300km long, picturesque Adriatic coastline with more than 100 wonderfully unspoilt beaches, a rugged mountainous interior, and a wealth of wellpreserved historic walled towns, traditional villages and rural hamlets. Just south of Croatia, Montenegro, or Crna Gora (Black Mountain), as it is known locally, has a rich history with the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Ottoman Turks all leaving their mark, plus a distinctive Venetian influence in Budva, Herceg Novi and the UNESCO listed Kotor. Hotels in Becici, near historic Budva, are perfect to combine with Dubrovnik for a two centre holiday. The Budva Riviera features some of the Adriatic coastline’s finest wide sandy bays and tranquil, hidden coves including that at Becici which is justifiably proud of its 1935 Grand Prix title: Europe’s most beautiful beach. With its backdrop of lush, tree-clad mountains, this long swathe of golden sand and pebbles is bordered by a picturesque promenade lined with restaurants, leading to the walled town of Budva, a 20 minute stroll away. At the other end of the promenade, linked by a strip of pink sand, lies tiny St Stephen Island (Sveti Stefan), much revered by holidaying glitterati and, along the coast to the south and merging into modern Becici, is the charming resort of Rafailovici. There are watersports available, a new waterpark and, for nightlife, head to vibrant Budva. Enclosed by medieval fortifications, Budva has always gained favour with the rich and famous and there are chic cocktail bars, sophisticated restaurants, and trendy nightclubs around its marina. The Old Town, set on a small peninsula, surrounded by 15th century ramparts, features historic monuments, Venetian style buildings and piazzas and narrow cobbled streets filled with galleries and cafés. In summer, Budva becomes an open air stage hosting numerous theatre and music festivals. In addition to the stunning coastline, Montenegro boasts a wealth of sights and historic attractions with medieval walled towns, traditional villages, churches and monasteries. Don’t miss UNESCO listed Kotor, in its spectacular fjord-like bay, which features Venetian architecture, a 17th century clock tower, museums and 12th century St Triphun Cathedral. A short distance away in Boka Bay, Perast is a beautiful old town with frequent taxi boat transfers to Our Lady of the Rock (Gospa od Skrpjela), a picturesque little island with an amazing church and museum. And just 20 minutes’ drive from the coast in its own beautiful national park, Lake Skadar, is the largest expanse of water in the Balkans.

n Friday 12th December, Pershore High School entertained around 150 local people at its annual Senior Citizen’s Coffee Morning. Those attending were given food and drinks, Christmas gifts, and entertained by choir, group and individual student musical performances. Carols were sung and a great time was had by all. Head teacher, Clive Corbett, who compered the event, said “This is a really important date in the school’s calendar when we have the opportunity to give something back to our local community and give a really happy start to their Christmas celebrations.”

TIME Magazine: How to Eat Now

E

at at home because it’s good for you, it’s good for your family and it’s far easier than you think, says best selling food writer Mark Bittman, in a recent TIME’s cover story.

non-GMO. Most of us are eating less than half of the recommended amount of fibre, fruit and vegetables, which eating at home could quickly change.

In today’s fast paced world we consume over 30% of our daily calories away from home. These less-than-wholesome calories are accumulating around our waists and draining our bank accounts.

Simple meals made at home with fresh produce and organic meats or eggs are nutritionally superior to over-flavoured, over-processed restaurant food. Not to mention the high calorie beverages and starters that so often accompany a restaurant meal. When you eat at home you take in more nutrient-dense calories that are higher in fibre.

So why do we eat out and shun the kitchen? Simple: convenience. We don’t have the time to toil away over a hot stove. However, evidence is mounting that we are paying big for the so-called convenience of outside food. Obesity related diseases are on the rise, as are the number of folks who are just plain unhappy with how their bodies look and feel. Cooking at home seems to be the first step in our road to healthier bodies. Here are the top 5 reasons that you should start cooking and eating at home: Reason 1: It’s Good For You Hyper-processed foods are harmful to our health and that’s exactly where you’ve been getting the bulk of your calories. Even restaurant food that contains fresh produce, chances are high that the produce is not organic, local or 22

Reason 2: It’s Far Easier Than You Think Eating out so often has conditioned our concept of a meal to be one with complicated flavours and accompaniments. This misconception has made us fear the kitchen. But I urge you to reconsider. Meals made at home need not mirror those ordered in restaurants. On the contrary, simple is better when it comes to home cooking. Plan your entire meal around a couple of pieces of fresh produce and a wholesome, lean protein. No need for complicated sauces or sides – these are where the harmful calories hide anyway. Reason 3: It Costs Less Fresh, simple ingredients do not cost much. Especially when compared to the cost of

prepared meals. Bittman’s advice on ingredient shopping is to, “Buy what you can afford, and cook it yourself. Rice, beans, bacon, salad, bread – few things are cheaper than that.” Shopping the perimeter of the store is always a good plan. Here you’ll find the fresh produce, meats, dairy and seafood. Venture into the aisles for oils and spices to compliment the fresh ingredients. Reason 4: It Is Preventative Medicine The Foresight Report (2007) concluded that half the UK population could be obese by 2050 at a cost of £50 billion per year. However, upward trends in obesity levels suggest these conclusions could be optimistic and could be exceeded by 2050. In the US the annual health care expenses related to obesity is $150 billion, according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Worldwide this number is over £600 billion annually. These numbers are staggering, and sobering when you think of all the individual lives that are being negatively impacted by obesity. Rather than waiting for you and your family members to experience the health risks related to obesity, start your own mission to cook simple meals at home and redirect your future.

Remember the words of Benjamin Franklin, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Reason 5: It Reduces Body Fat Eating at home is also one of the best ways to reduce your body fat. Bittman states that meals eaten at home contain an average of 200 calories less than meals eaten out. Let me tell you, a reduction in 200+ calories per meal will quickly translate to pounds lost! Start today, and don’t be afraid to start small. Pick one meal that you’ll make at home either today or tomorrow and write down your simple menu and shopping list. And let’s not forget the place that a challenging, consistent exercise programme has in your quest for good health and a fit physique. My programs are specially designed to blast fat and to build muscle in all the right places. Call or email me today to get started on a fat loss programme that really works. BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE ...

N

ow that the weather has turned chilly, there's one baby at West Midland Safari Park that will be staying cosy and toasty all winter long. Little Lottie is the newest baby Douroucouli (otherwise known as Night Monkey or Owl Monkey) to be born in Twilight Cave, which is also home to free-flying Seba's short-tailed and Rodrigues fruit bats. Lottie is the second Douroucouli to be born at the Park. Barney was the first - he arrived on 24th November 2013. And, just like Barney, it is quite likely that little Lottie will be seen on father's back, as Douroucouli mothers generally relinquish this role after just a few weeks. Whilst the name 'Lottie' is indeed more suited to a female, staff are yet to confirm whether the new youngster is in fact male or female. It was the extraordinary prettiness of the baby that prompted the more feminine term.

26

The temperature in Twilight Cave is set at a steady 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. Therefore, whatever the weather is doing outdoors, the inhabitants of this all-weather exhibit located in Discovery Trail will remain positively balmy. The Douroucouli is the world's only nocturnal monkey - from South America - often referred to as the New World - they have wide eyes to help night vision, although they have no colour vision, as it would be of no benefit to them in the dark. Its genus name 'Aotus' means 'earless' as the ears are extremely small. In the wild they live high in the tree canopy in family groups (the adult pairs are monogamous) so comparatively little is known about their life style although they live up to 20 years in captivity.

Little Lottie, Barney, along with father Ilay and mother Kyna, may be seen in the allweather Twilight Cave every weekend during the Wild Winter season up to Sunday, 8th February 2015 and daily from 26th November to 24th December 2014 during Santa Safari. Twilight Cave is included in the 'Wild Winter' standard admission charge - ÂŁ14.99 for adults, ÂŁ9.99 for children. Admission also includes the 4-mile self-drive safari, along with other all-weather Discovery Trail exhibits - New Lorikeet Landing, Creepy Crawlies, Seaquarium, Mark O'Shea's Reptile World - Sea Lion Theatre, African Village, Hippo Lakes, car parking and various talks and animal encounters. Admission prices also include a free return ticket. The Theme Park rides are closed during winter opening. Further information is available from the Park's official website www.wmsp.co.uk or by telephone 01299 402114.

Are you someone who knows your community well? Do you enjoy being active in your community? Could you offer just a few hours a week?

If so, we’d love to hear from you! South Worcestershire Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is working to help people living in rural areas of Wychavon find the advice and support they need. Volunteer Community Champions are a vital link – helping people find out how advice from the CAB can help solve their debt, benefits, employment, housing, consumer or even health problems. For further details about this rewarding volunteer opportunity please contact: 07935 407190.Email: jacqueline.wychavoncab@gmail.com The Community Champions project is part of the Worcestershire Advice Network, supported through the Advice Service Transition Fund. All CAB advice services are free, confidential & impartial.

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS

A

two-year project, funded by the Big Lottery, has been set up by South Worcestershire Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in partnership with the Worcestershire Advice Network. The aim of the project is to help people living in our rural communities get the advice and information they need to resolve their problems.

So what exactly are Community Champion volunteers? Community Champions are volunteers who operate within their local, or neighbouring, parish, village or community. They base themselves at regular clubs and/or meetings which are already established i.e. senior 28

coffee mornings, mother and toddler groups etc. This enables local people to easily find information and advice about all kinds of different issues which they may be having problems with. These include things like employment, housing, benefits, debts, consumer goods and even health and relationships. The CAB can help with all these things, offering advice and practical assistance to resolve the problems. Although Community Champions do not provide full-on advice themselves, they act as an important first port of call, providing an easy route to the CAB’s advice services or other relevant agencies.

To advertise call 01684 833715 or 07754 170286 or visit www.grapevinepublications.co.uk

Why has the project been set-up? We believe that there are individuals who would benefit from CAB help and advice but don’t know where to start in order to access our services. Perhaps there is poor public transport which makes travelling to a bureau office difficult, or maybe there is poor internet service which prevents access to our website. Indeed, some people may not even know we exist! It is these ‘hidden’ individuals who require our assistance that we aim to help through the Community Champions scheme. This is why we are focussing on rural areas – bringing the ability to access advice into the heart of the community.

What sort of people might become a Community Champion Volunteer? We are looking for volunteers who have a passion about helping their own, or a neighbouring, local community. They will be someone who enjoys interacting with all sorts of people and would like to help others. Good communication skills are vital, as is an understanding of the importance of confidentiality. We would like individuals to volunteer for 3-4 hours per week. Volunteers receive full training and support to enable them to help people clarify what information they require and then make appointments for them to see CAB advisers or other relevant partner agencies i.e. Relate, Cruse, Age UK etc.

Saved Postage Stamps Needed To Help Rescue Dogs

A

local dog foster carer is urging folks to save their Christmas mail stamps towards a worthy cause which will help abandoned and injured dogs’ lives. Pete Chamberlain, who is an active member of Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue, has put out the plea at the time of year when people get more mail, as it is one of the ways the charity can raise much needed funds. Set up in 1989 the centre, based in Evesham and run by about 10 volunteers, looks after around 70 dogs at any one time, and is on a constant mission to raise money to cover vets’ fees, food and essential supplies. Pete, who has fostered around 100 dogs until they can be found a permanent home, said: ”Hundreds of greyhounds and lurchers come into the home each year, and this is unfortunately the time of year when the season of goodwill seems to have forsaken our four-legged friends. “We can’t afford the advertising which some of the major organisations run, so we rely on word of mouth to put out appeals for help. Donating used stamps is just one easy way of helping us to cover the enormous costs of looking after these dogs and doesn’t cost donors anything so I am urging people to put them to one side and send us their used stamps to us to raise funds.”

32

Pete is currently looking after 9-month old Jet who came into the rescue service when she was abandoned in Birmingham. Anyone who has a bundles of stamps can send them to Pete at his home address at Four Acres, Hill Furze Lane, Bishampton, WR10 2NA. Anyone wishing to send cheque donations should send them to: Lyn Alden - Stonebridge, Cheltenham Road, Ashton Under Hill, Worcestershire, WR11 7QT. (please make cheques payable to Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue). The website also features other ways to help including offering a dog a home, sponsoring a dog, supplying food, bedding, helping to fundraise - or even volunteering to be a foster carer, just like Pete.

Community Action Malvern & District Community Action Malvern and District was established in 1972. Now 42 years later, the service is well established and very much in demand. Primarily now, the charity aims to reduce social isolation in the elderly and housebound by providing transport and social interaction within the local community. Offering transport to those who would otherwise be unable to leave their own homes, the charity provides individual transport for those who need to travel to medical appointments as a priority, within the Malvern area. Social appointments are met whenever possible. We also have a “Shoparound” bus three times a week which collects people from their homes and travels to a planned destination. In addition, within Malvern there is a Sunday Tea Club and a monthly Cinema Club. Conscious of the need to serve the rural areas there are now two bus runs each week - one to Tewkesbury, and one to Gloucester and Cheltenham. These have subsidised costs for

those with a bus pass. They must be individually booked at least 24 hours prior to travel. There is no facility for a chance trip by waiting at a bus stop. When booking, the pick-up place and time will be agreed. The routes are: Wednesday to Tewkesbury commencing 9.45am and travelling through: Malvern Link - Great Malvern Welland - Castlemorton - Birts Street - Rye Street - Pendock Longdon Heath - Longdon Sledge Green - Corse Lawn Forthampton Bushley Tewkesbury Arrive 11am & return 1pm Thursday to Gloucester and Cheltenham commencing 9.30am and travelling through: Malvern Link - Great Malvern Barnards Green - Three Counties Showground - Hanley Swan Welland - Castlemorton - Rye Cross - Sledge Green - Pendock Eldersfield - Corse Lawn Staunton Maisemore Gloucester (drop off only, no pick up) - Cheltenham Arrive 11.15am & return 1.50pm

email: info@communityaction.org.uk

To book any journey please contact 01684 892381 We always need volunteers to drive and escort for a few hours each week. Fund raising is vital and to help with this please become a Friend Of Community Action. Currently one of the fund raising initiatives is the sale of a lovely cook book. This was carefully put together by Malli Wadge and uses many recipes that have been used by local people. If you would like to purchase a copy of Thymes Remembered they are on sale at Malvern Tourist Information Centre and Just So in Barnards Green at £8.50 each or can be posted out for the sum of £11.

Harold Lock, Council Cllr Lynne Duffy, Ken Wiliams, Mayor of Evesham Charlie Homer and Darren Turk

Redrow Homes (Midlands) MD Darren Turk with HMS Jupiter veteran Harold Lock

T

he last known survivor living in the UK of HMS Jupiter has unveiled a lasting tribute to those who served on the destroyer during the Second World War.

The road naming ceremony was organised by Redrow in conjunction with Evesham Town Council, Wychavon District Council and the HMS Jupiter Association.

Jupiter Road at Redrow’s Laburnum Gardens development has been named in recognition of HMS Jupiter, which was adopted by the then Evesham Borough Council during WWII.

The name for the road was suggested by Evesham Town Council. A framed picture and certificate of appreciation was presented to the council during the event.

A road sign, including the HMS Jupiter crest, was unveiled by Harold Lock who was serving on the destroyer when it was sunk by a mine off the coast of Java in 1942. Mr Lock, now 91, lied about his age to join the Royal Navy at just 14 years old. When HMS Jupiter sank he swam through miles of shark infested waters to reach land, only to be met by Japanese soldiers. He was held captive for more than three years until the end of the war.

Mayor of Evesham Cllr Charlie Homer, said: “As a town, we are proud of our historical link with HMS Jupiter. Evesham adopted this vessel during WW2 as part of the War Weeks initiative and it is fitting that this link is recognised with the naming of a road in the town. I am sure that the name will instil a sense of pride in the new residents of Jupiter Road and give them a specific connection to Evesham’s recent past.”

Recalling the incident, he said: “I was only 16 when I dived overboard. I was lucky I was swimming when I was four-years-old and distance was my thing. It’s a bit of an honour [to open Jupiter Road]. I didn’t expect it after all these years have passed by.”

Ken Williams, secretary of the HMS Jupiter Association, said: “The Evesham area adopted HMS Jupiter as its own and raised money for the ship. We appreciate that this special relationship is being remembered even after all these years.”

New Year ... New Home for a Cat

A

s always we have a number of cats, of various of ages and colours wanting a warm domestic home ... so if you are considering giving a cat a new start for the new year please contact us. However not all our cats want a domestic home. We often have feral cats which cannot be socialised as pets; they are usually scared of people and will avoid them. Therefore we are always in need of small holdings, stables or farms where we can house cats that are not that keen on human contact where they can enjoy their freedom and not be bothered too much by people. These cats will earn their keep, in a suitable environment, by simply acting on their natural

instincts and being effective as an environmentally-friendly rodent control. They do not crave affection or attention and are perfectly happy to go about their ‘jobs’ as long as they have a warm, dry place to sleep, regular food and fresh water. Like all of our cats, our ‘workers’ have been neutered and health checked so you can adopt with confidence. Equipment and bedding can be provided to set up a new abode for the cats. Please call 01386 833343 if you have suitable accommodation for one or two of these cats.

The Ransom A driver was stuck in a traffic jam on the M4 near Swindon. Nothing was moving. Suddenly, a man knocks on the window. The driver rolls down the window and asks, "What's going on?" "Terrorists have kidnapped all members of Parliament, and they're asking for a £100 million ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them all in petrol and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, collecting donations." "How much is everyone giving, on an average?" the driver asks. The man replies, "Roughly a litre."
