My Worcestershire Free Solar FREE solar panels means:
My Worcestershire Free Solar is all about giving away free solar to qualifying properties in Worcestershire. There are no fees, no catches. FREE.
Your electricity bill will reduce – saving you money You will be reducing your carbon footprint, helping the environment, and helping the country reach it’s carbon efficiencies targets
How can we do this? In April 2010 the government introduced an initiative called the FIT Scheme. The FIT scheme allows investors to be paid for all the electricity that panels generate. This means that if you let us put panels on your roof, you benefit from free electricity, and we sell what is left over back to the grid.
You must own your property (mortgaged is fine) Have a south facing roof or within 30 degrees of south Your roof must be free from shading No slate roofs, thatched roofs, or listed buildings Have 24 square metres of interrupted space on your roof (larger semi detached and detached properties on the whole are fine)
To apply go to www.myworcestershirefreesolar.co.uk or call 01905 676222
Free Solar Power for Worcestershire Homeowners A new scheme for Worcestershire has been launched offering homeowners to benefit from free electricity generated by solar energy. My Worcestershire Free Solar are arranging for qualifying properties to have Solar PV panels fitted to their roofs. Normally this would cost somewhere in the region of £12,500, but thanks to Government grants and private investors, the cost can be completely met by the scheme. The way it works is by utilising the Government led Feed in Tariff Scheme (FIT). The FIT Scheme allows investors to be paid 43.3p per kWh of electricity produced by the panels. The deal is that the homeowners have priority over the electricity generated, and the surplus is sold back to the grid, the money returning to the investors. Clearly if you have money to spare then it would almost certainly pay you to buy a solar system and benefit from the FIT scheme yourself, and My Worcestershire Free Solar can arrange this for you, however if you just want to benefit from lower electricity bills, then this free solar offer may be for you. It won’t completely cut your electricity bill, as the panels won’t produce at night, but it will certainly make a difference. To qualify, you must own your home (mortgaged is fine), and have a south(ish) facing roof made of tile in good repair, with around 24 square metres of space. This normally means a larger semi or detached property. Further details can be found on this offer on the website:

The FLYING SOUND Company presents: SILENT DISCO! “What on earth . . . ?” you ask. Read on. Silent Disco is unusual and people will be thrilled at having experienced it at YOUR party!
They will go home taking about the excellent folks who just had . . . . a Silent Disco!
It is great fun, unique and practical! Whether you are having a garden party, a celebration at a bar or a grand wedding, or booking that office Xmas party: Silent Disco could be for you! This is how it works: everyone at the party gets a set of wireless headphones for the night.
We transmit two channels of different music so each guest can choose which tunes they listen to by using the switch on the headphones, channel A or channel B. One channel can be classic 70’s & 80’s tunes and the other can be Lady Gaga etc! Or the bride & groom may like rock whilst older guests prefer disco. So on the dance floor half the crowd could be listening and dancing to something totally different from the other half! It is fun, we promise!
Our system runs off iPods® so the person holding the event can plan exactly what they wish to hear (or not!) or just give us a general guide and we'll arrange it all. We can also take requests or you can have live DJs plug into our system. NOW for the really clever bit . . . . ● You are in a residential area! You want to party late into the night! The hotel wants you to stop at midnight! No problem, because . . . . there is NO audible music!
● Hotels love us because there are no complaints from other guests trying to sleep. ● You can have a house party every week and not upset your neighbours! ●
Your guests can talk and chat at the bar, and just hit the dance floor whenever they hear a favourite tune coming through the headphones.
So if you are looking for something unique and different, and at the same time offers the benefits of more music choices, later partying times and NO complaints, then Silent Disco is for you. Our prices range between £250 and £600 depending on the number of guests and specific event days. We perform for private parties, festivals, local councils, youth groups, hotels, bars, etc. We supply and run all the equipment, the wireless headphones and the music. We also provide lights, lasers, smoke machine, etc. So call now and book early for your Halloween, Christmas and New Year's Eve parties - or just your Saturday evening bash!

Hallowe´en . . . "From ghoulies and ghosties and long legged beasties, and things that go bump in the night, may the Good Lord preserve us". Never was this traditional prayer more applicable than at the time of Hallowe'en! While we tend to think of this event as being an American import, it has its origins in Celtic times, maybe even earlier. In the Celtic calendar 1st November marked the end of summer, the harvest and the beginning of winter, and was accompanied by games and sports, harvest revels, bonfires and fortune-telling This time was also associated with death when it was believed witches, warlocks and other evil spirits were abroad. With 31st October being the last day of the Celtic year, a festival called Samhein (pronounced Sew-in) was celebrated, when it was believed the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. At a time when superstition was rife it was thought these were the spirits of people who'd died during the year returning in search of a living body to possess for the following year. Folk thus began to dress up in ghoulish costumes both to scare evil spirits away and also to disguise themselves. Such traditions were carried on through the ages with variations, such as the Roman festival of 'Pomona,' a day celebrating their goddess of fruit and trees, the special symbol being an apple, hence our custom of bobbing for apples at this time of year. This name has been continued through the centuries especially in this part of the country, with fields and even houses bearing this name, as in the old Pomona Jam Factory in Pershore. As with so many pagan rites and ceremonies, this event was taken over by the early Christians sometime around AD800 as 'All Hallows' or 'All Saint's Eve' (Hallow being an old word meaning Holy). For centuries it has thus been a popular 'party' occasion when folk would don ghoulish garb, light candles and go begging from house to house. Farmers would light bonfires in their fields to ward off evil spirits whilst folk with lighted torches would march through woods to drive away witches, this being the one night of the year when it was believed these met to dance and perform mystic ceremonies. At around l000AD, 1st November became known as 'All Saint's Day' whilst 2nd November became 'All Soul's Day' honouring the dead. Together these three days were called Hallowmas. On Halloween, in some places villagers would douse their hearth fires and gather around a large sacred bonfire, making sacrifices to Celtic gods. Their own fires would then be re-lit using brands from the sacred fire in order to protect them during the long winter months. It is thought the tradition of the Jack O'Lantern (the hollowing out of pumpkins and lighting them from inside), originated from Ireland where there was a well-known trickster named Jack. It is said he tricked the Devil up a tree, then carved an image of a cross in the trunk, saying he would let him down if he was never tempted again. On Jack's death he was refused entrance to heaven due to his bad ways and also to hell for having tricked Satan. However he was given a single ember with which to light his wandering way through the darkness until Please mention Theplaced Worcestershire when to advertisers. 22 day of judgement. the This he insideVillager a turnip toresponding keep it glowing for longer. during the potato famine in the 1840's, many Irish crossed the Atlantic, they continued their ancient customs and finding pumpkins were more plentiful there, used these to continue the custom. In earlier times other vegetables had been treated in the same way. In Devon, marrows were used, whilst other places preferred turnips or swedes. In the Orkneys, in order to persuade dead souls to return, there is a custom kept up by the children using mangolds with very carefully designed cut-outs and patterns, although this parade is usually takes place before Halloween, on the last Thursday in October. These lanterns are paraded through the street, the children singing: 'It's Punkie Night tonight, it's Punkie Night tonight! Give us a candle, give us a light, it's Punkie Night tonight'. Whilst 'Trick & Treating' is considered to be an American introduction it could have originated from a ninth century European custom called 'Soulind' when, on All Souls Day, Christians walked from village to village begging for soul cakes - square pieces of bread containing currants. People who donated a cake were promised prayers would be made to the donor's dead relatives, as it was believed that prayers, even said by strangers, could speed up a soul's passage to heaven. On the other hand the custom of begging for sweets and nuts, etc., could go back to the pagan belief that visiting ghosts needed to be greeted hospitably, after which the villagers could lead them away, banishing them for another year. Over the years fortune-telling become another important part of Halloween. Cakes would be baked containing a coin, a ring or a thimble. This would indicate whether someone would become rich, marry soon or remain a spinster. Sometimes called 'Nutcrack Night', chestnuts - one for each teenage girl or boy were placed on a hot hearth and it was believed that the way these burned showed whether one's sweetheart was faithful or untrue. In other places it was thought that if the nut burned normally, all was well but if it burst or rolled from the hearth, the sweetheart was to be avoided! In other places, the girls would chant: "If he loves me, pop and fly, if he hates me, lie and die" In Shropshire, girls would attempt to discover who of their group would be first to marry. Each girl placed her shift over the back of a chair arranged in a semi-circle, whilst as they chanted, watching carefully: the first shift to move, it’s owner would be the first to marry. In other places girls would sprinkle hempseed in the garden at midnight whilst chanting: "Hemp seed I sow, hemp seed I throw, Let him who be my true love, come after me and mow" If she looked over her shoulder quickly the shape of her husband-to-be would emerge, or she could rush to her mirror and see her true love there. The magic of Hallowe'en now reaches far and wide, traditions having built up throughout the centuries. But, whatever the custom, all seem to come to the same conclusion. In one form or another, evil, is abroad on the night of Hallowe'en and one cannot afford not to be Please mention The Worcestershire Villager when responding to advertisers. 23 careful! Top 7 Foods for blasting that belly fat #1 Water - Okay it's not a food, you got me. Just remember that a dehydrated body is not a good environment for fat loss and drinking more water keeps us full so we don't grab for seconds at the dinner table. *Keep yourself to 2-3 litres a day and replace your juices and cokes for this magic liquid instead #2 Eggs - Eggs are high in Omega 3 Fatty acids (good) and also high in protein (good for building & toning muscle). It's also cheap to buy at the supermarket and very versatile. Make sure you buy free range and preferably organic to get the most benefit. #3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) - You should be taking these every single day. They not only help with keeping you lean, they also reduce stress and pain in your joints. A must take supplement. #4 Berries - I love raspberries and blueberries and you should too because they are rich in antioxidants and high in fibre. A great substitution for cake and ice cream when it comes to desert time :) #5 Greens (Spinach, Broccoli, Kale etc.) - Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibre and low in calories. If your plate is not filled with these then you are making a big mistake. * Eat as much as you want of these. Don't hold back. #6 Fish - It's an awesome source of good fats and also high in protein. #7 Sweet Potatoes - You get amino acids, good fats, vitamins and anti oxidants all from this one little potato. *PS: These are awesome to eat after workouts. So there are my 7 staple foods for rapid fat loss. Just a little tip: Make sure you stay on the outer ends of the supermarket when going shopping. Also stay completely away from processed foods and drinks that contain empty calories. Doing that alone will help you drop pounds this coming holiday season. The Spotted What!? When a conservation and wildlife adviser called John Clarke put a small and unobtrusive advertisement in a selection of parish magazines, the response was remarkable . . . For eight years, John had been working on the remote and windswept Scottish island of Colonsay. Having returned to rural Worcestershire, his imagination was seized by the gradual disappearance of a small migrant bird, the Spotted Flycatcher. Spurred by various sightings, John tramped the villages with his mirror-on-a-stick and documented his findings. This enchanting book, a blend of anecdote and actual scientific research, is the story of his quest for this endearing and elusive bird and of the characters who, fired by his enthusiasm, became so fervently involved in his project. John writes with knowledge, warmth and humour. Birdwatchers will love this book. But so too will many others, those with a passion for wildlife, for the countryside, for conservation and those with an interest in the interaction of man and nature. John's book is a tribute to the Spotted Flycatcher and may well help to halt its decline. He is The Flycatcher Man.
This charming little book has proved to be very popular and would make an ideal Christmas present for any bird-watching enthusiast. To order a copy now at the low price of just £3.99 plus £1.00 p&p, call: 01684 833715 36

Autumn in the Garden
Leaves on the trees are starting turn and take on their autumn foliage hues, as the nights start drawing in and temperatures become cooler. Winter is not far off!
Planting
Any hardwood cuttings taken last autumn should now be planted out into their permanent positions. Traditionally this is the month to plant trees and shrubs; make sure to stake and water them well in, and put a good a layer of mulch around the base, and be sure to Cotoneaster lacteus protect newly planted trees and shrubs from harsh winds and severe weather.
Propagation
If you have African violets, now is a good time to take leaf cuttings, pot them up and either keep them in a heated greenhouse, or on a window sill without direct sunlight. If you are cyclamen lover, sow seeds now for a Christmas display next year. You will need to use a heated greenhouse or a propagation unit to keep a constant temperature.
Pruning
Towards the end of November winter prune deciduous trees and shrubs including fruit trees and bushes. Mulch around all fruit trees and shrubs that have been pruned.
Lawns
There is still time before the heavy frost comes to lay turf on prepared soil. Give your lawn a final cut before the really cold weather sets in, then get your lawn mower serviced ready for next spring. Make sure you don’t walk on the lawn when there is a frost, will leave brown foot prints were you have broken the brittle grass stalks. 42
Indoors Plants & Greenhouses
November is the time to get greenhouse heaters fired up to protect any tender plants and cuttings. Insulate the inside of the greenhouse with bubble wrap. Also insulate cold frames and on really cold nights cover the cold frame with an extra layer. Ventilate greenhouse sand coldframes on the sunnier days of the month to prevent stale air and the spread of damp. Place cyclamen pot plants in a cool, bright position and always apply water to the base of the plant, never into the top. This will help to prevent yellowing of the leaves. Take hard wood cuttings of vines and pot them up in the greenhouse.
Maintenance
Rake up fallen leaves and either place them on the compost or pile them up to make leaf mould. Now is also the time to get rid of any perennial Helleborus niger weeds or debris that shows signs of fungal infection. Dig over empty beds, and finish planting evergreen shrubs. This is the best time of the year to take hardwood cuttings and collect any berries from trees and shrubs for seed sowing. Give conifer hedges a last trim before the winter sets in; lift and store dahlias, glodioli and summer flowering bulbs. Tidy ponds and remove pumps for the winter; make new lawns from turf, and cut down the dying tops of perennial vegetables. Star Signs & Your Horoscope
October & November 2011 Aries (21st March - 20th April)
Cancer (22nd June - 23rd July)
Things and situations would get sorted out in due course, but you seem to have lost all hope. Just the thought that your action may not get you the desired freedom, makes you give up the idea of trying again. However you'll soon see the immense source of nurture, protection and growth presented to you, even financially. What new opportunities for work do you have and what kind of seeds are you planting in your career? In your love life you are charming, fearless and fiery this month.
Stability and familiar things are missing but take a look at your original goal and see if you are still on course and you can continue to grow. You may feel hesitant in taking risks or putting on more burdens, especially in your finances and a little in your love life issues but you have to stay committed as you are to reach fulfilment soon. You are a good provider to yourself and closest to you, what you feel amongst the unfamiliar feelings you are surrounded by much love and a sense of permanence.
Taurus (21st April - 20th May)
Leo (23rd July - 22nd August)
You are developing an awareness of what it truly means in life and are keen to succeed materially as well as spiritually. It can suggest that you will be promoted but it is a welcome responsibility where you the burdens are not carried alone. Tread carefully to minimise your losses, you may feel out of place at times this month but you are on the right path and a chance to move forward will finally present itself. You are seeking a new direction, a new habit, a lifestyle that brings the new and rid of the old. Your closest of relations may mean well but may not be fully reliable, so who are you working with and expressing your emotions to and who wants to protect and shower you with affections? It may be wise not to let go of all hopes in your love life just yet.
Gemini (21st May - 21st June)
You may feel like taking a financial or emotional risk as when you become bored you can easily persuade yourself into the wrong direction, sometimes a risk is justified but from impatience it can lead to recklessness or doing things at the wrong moment so be careful this month, you don't want to come across as rushing either. Expect some good news regarding your career. Your basic good nature and positive attitudes, as well as your energy make you invaluable in a crisis or disaster so it is essential that you demonstrate your self-trust now and reveal your self-knowledge. What is keeping you centered amongst your closest of relations, how do they give you sense of security, who do you want to hold on to, protect or possess?

dig deeper on what significant romantic and work relationships are you involved in and do they mirror your own sense of self-worth? If you may experience heart ache this month, don't avoid problems any longer and make the choices so people around you don't feel unstable. There's a lot you can achieve this month as a turning point you will also stumble upon the solutions to the problems in your love life. Issues on your career how are you channeling your resources and who inspires you to succeed? With your closest relations what are you hesitating to do and who do you need to reconcile with?
Scorpio (24th October - 21st November) With possible fears or instinctively knowing what you want to do, you will need to be patient this month as things will clear up if you wait, hold on to your point of view and be willing to see things for what they really are. You may fear getting 'stung' again in a situation or feeling you need to prove everyone wrong. In your love life stop repressing and release the fears and remove those blocks. Overall you may feel you are handling two or more situations with ease and you can be adaptable, especially with your closest of relations this month as you really start to accept things as they really are.
Sagittarius (22nd November - 21st December) The process of change has started, you can't fight it but instead you look at things as they really are, so to rid yourself of something no longer good in your life is a must for something better to take its place. If you are in a personal or work relationship that is domineering, face your fears! Choose now to get away and explore the unknown, new territories, ideas etc. You've reached contentment and soul fulfilment this month. You approach your career all fired up with eagerness, chances are you may be offered a good business proposal put to you by a lady. However financially you are feeling sorrowful perhaps through a loss of control or misunderstanding but you must let it go and be optimistic. You may feel stuck with your current home and family relations but your challenge is to awaken your spiritual development towards enrichment of the soul.
Capricorn (22nd December - 19th January) You need to unwind and reward yourself some wellearned relaxation. Work needs to be balanced with play, or perhaps you want to discover more from learning a new subject or skill this month. You have risked so much to get this far, be fearless now and move forward in relative safety. It is time for you to take your next step so you can take the fences down. In your love life and closest of relations you depict a strong person this month who is able to lead and dominate others through your strength of will, focused on your ambitions to grow for the relationship you are positive and forthright.
Aquarius (20th January - 18th February) The challenge this month is rebuilding from your aches and pains and the process of change has started. Do not resist the inevitable breakdown of your present circumstances so you will need to let go. You have the strength to ignore the opposition, to rid yourself of something old or undesirable, so after much contemplation and seeking for the truth within something much better will come along. Financially things could be better but its slow progress, although better than no progress at all. Even though you fear the lack of commitment to your goals, you have to trust yourself because in your love life there is a sense of permanence and compassion around and you feel in creating a new beginning with your closest of relations too.
Pisces (19th February - 20th March) There is a lot of things expected of you to complete this month but with that expect some new financial help your way however big or small. In your love life you could show the authority to plan and ensure more grounding. You could be going about things the wrong way and need guidance from your closest of relations, as you are now also more willing to listen to your "inner" voice. Your own impatience is creating this frustration and these unfulfilled ambitions, so prevent taking shortcuts to success, you will need to proceed in the proper way.
