Inicia un nuevo año y el 2013 trae consigo grandes retos para nuestra Gran Ciudad; la inauguración del Nuevo Aeropuerto Internacional de Quito, el inicio de la construcción de la primera línea de Metro, nuevos bulevares, cables bajo tierra, la apertura del primer teatro IMAX y muchos proyectos más públicos y privados cambiarán la cara de la ciudad y generarán nuevas oportunidades de visita.

A new year starts and this 2013 brings with it major challenges for our Great City; the opening of Quito’s New International Airport, the beginning of the construction of the first line of Metro, new boulevards, underground wiring, the opening of the first IMAX Theatre and many more public and private projects, will change the face of the city, and they will generate new business opportunities.

Los 10 Mayores Atractivos del Centro Histórico de Quito La Ciudad de Quito cuenta con gran diversidad de atractivos y sitios de visita, y a lo largo de los últimos años se han ido recuperando o adaptando más espacios que ofrecen gran interés al visitante, sin embargo, la tradición nos ha mantenido ofreciendo una visita a la ciudad de tan solo 3 horas, tiempo en el cuál se puede apreciar tan solo una pequeña parte de la gran riqueza que ofrece Quito en varios de sus rincones.

Ya en el último trimestre del año 2011 se abrió una gran oportunidad de ver a Quito de una forma diferente con el inicio de las operaciones del Quito Tour Bus, iniciando el recorrido en la parte Moderna de la ciudad, pasando por varios sitios de visita en su camino hacia la zona de La Mariscal y por supuesto recorriendo buena parte de la joya de la corona de Quito: su Centro Histórico. Así tanto los visitantes como los mismos habitantes

pueden pasar el día recorriendo la capital subiendo y bajando de los buses de dos pisos tantas veces como quieran dentro del horario de operación de los mismos, escuchando mientras están a bordo del bus tanto las excelentes explicaciones dadas por el guía así como la interesante información de la audio guía y una agradable selección de música nacional y especialmente relacionada a Quito.

Also known as Independence Square, this place can be considered the center of the city and starting point to discover the Historical Center of Quito. In the middle of this square you’ll find the Monument to the Independence and in its surroundings the main powers of the State -represented by the Presidential Palace, the City hall, the Cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace are found.

Avenida inaugurada a principios del siglo XX, este punto era considerado como el límite de la ciudad hacia el sur.

Actualmente ha sido reinaugurada como un Bulevar en la que se han recuperado sus 4 plazas y está unida a otros sitios de interés del Centro Histórico como la Ronda y la Plaza de San Francisco.

Avenue built at the beginning of the 20th century, this point was considered the southern city limit. Recently re-inaugurated as a Boulevard, its 4 old squares have been recovered. This avenue is now linked to other old town sites of interest such as La Ronda Street and San Francisco church and square.

Pequeña Plaza originalmente construida en los años de fundación de la ciudad de Quito (1.534) y que fue cubierta con la construcción de un mercado de estructura metálica en el siglo XX. Al momento esta ya inaugurada pintoresca plaza ubicada a pocos metros del conjunto arquitectónico de San Francisco está completamente recuperada.

This small Square was originally constructed in the years of foundation of the city (1.534), but was covered at the 20th century with the construction of a market and its big metallic structure. At the moment this square located few meters away form the architectonic complex of San Francisco has been recovered.

--------------------------------Ubicada a pocos metros de la Plaza de la independencia ésta pequeña pero emblemática plaza es el sitio donde fue fundada la ciudad de Quito el 6 de diciembre de 1.534 por el español Sebastián de Benalcázar en honor a quién se levanta una estatua en uno los costados de la Plaza.

Located few meters north of the Main or Independence Square this small but emblematic square is the site where the Spaniard Sebastián de Benalcázar founded the city of Quito on December the 6th 1,534. At one of the sides you will find a statue dedicated to this Spanish character.

Conjunto formado por una amplia plaza de piedra, una iglesia fácilmente reconocible por sus dos torres gemelas y su convento que alberga un museo de arte religioso de gran valor. La construcción de este conjunto arquitectónico inició en 1.536, es decir, tan solo 2 años después de la fundación de la ciudad.

Desde 1.580 hasta mediados del siglo XVII es el tiempo dedicado a la construcción original de este conjunto formado por la Iglesia de Santo Domingo y la Plaza del mismo nombre, utilizada frecuentemente para la realización de varios eventos culturales y sociales gracias a su ubicación y amplitud.

Complex made up of a wide stone square, an easily recognizable church due to its twin towers and the convent that hosts a museum of religious art of great value. The construction of this architectonic complex initiated in 1.536, this is, only 2 years after the city’s foundation.

From 1.580 until the mid of the 17th century is the time spent to the original construction of this complex, formed by the Church of Santo Domingo and the Square of the same name, frequently used for several cultural and social events thanks to its location and amplitude.

El Panecillo

Gral. Melchor Aymerich, “Panecillo” --------------------------------Esta elevación natural fue bautizada así por su parecido con un pequeño pan. Se erige en medio de la ciudad como un mirador natural. La colina de El Panecillo, con 3.000 m. de altitud sobre el nivel del mar, marca la división entre el sur y el centro de la ciudad. En 1976, el artista español Agustín de la Herrán Matorras realizó en aluminio el monumento a La Virgen que se encuentra en la cúspide del cerro.

This natural hill was baptized due to its similarity with a small piece of bread (Panecillo). Located in the middle of the city this place stands as a natural viewpoint. The “Panecillo” hill, with 3,000 mts. (9,842 ft.) above the sea level, marks the division between the south and the old town. In 1976, the Spanish artist Agustín de la Herrán Matorras built in aluminum, the monument to the Virgin at the top of this hill.

It has capacity for 804 people and has been the scenery not only for the greatest theater and orchestral works presented in the country, but also for important events of the city. Its interior is decorated with art works dating mostly from the 20th century.

Trolebus - “Plaza del Teatro” www.teatrosucre.org/teatro-variedades Se inauguró en 1913 bajo el nombre de Teatro Variedades y funcionó exclusivamente como sala de cine hasta 1994, cuando cerró sus puertas. 11 años después, la edificación pasó a manos del Municipio, el cual se encargó de su rehabilitación, que al cabo de 20 meses permitió su reapertura con el nombre de uno de los actores más representativos de la ciudad y con una capacidad para 250 personas.

It was inaugurated in 1913 under the name of “Teatro Variedades” and functioned exclusively as a cinema until 1994, when it closed its doors. 11 years later, this building passed on to the hands of the Municipality, institution that was in charge of its rehabilitation. After 20 months of works, this theater re-opened with the name of one of the most representative actors of the city and with a capacity for 250 seats.

Ubicada a 45 minutos desde Quito esta reserva natural cuenta entre sus principales atractivos con la Laguna de la Mica en donde existen varios senderos naturales para realizar caminatas; se distingue el Volcán nevado Antisana que con 5,750 m. de altura da el nombre a esta reserva que es además hogar de especies importantes como el Cóndor Andino y el Curiquingue.

Located 45 minutes from Quito this natural reserve has among its main attractions the “Mica” lagoon where there are several nature trails for hiking; the spectacular snowcapped volcano “Antisana” with 5,750 m height gives the name to this reserve which is also home to important species such as the Andean Condor and the Curiquingue.

This city founded in the year of 1557 was named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1999 and is regarded as Ecuador’s third largest city. Located at 2,535 meters this city of approximately half a million inhabitants is a destination rich in culture and colonial architecture at only 40 minutes flight from Quito.

Esta laguna que se encuentra a 120 km. al norte de Quito a una altitud de 3,068 m.s.n.m está formada al interior de un cráter volcánico al pie del Volcán Cotacachi y cuenta con dos pequeños islotes en su interior que pueden ser visitados en un recorrido en canoa. Se puede realizar una larga caminata de 4 - 6 horas alrededor del cráter.

This lagoon, located 120 km. North of Quito at an altitude of 3,068 m.a.s.l. is formed inside a volcanic crater at the foot of the Cotacachi volcano. It has two small islets in its interior that can be visited on a tour by canoe. You can also walk around the crater in an 4 - 6 hours hike.
