Council Packet

Formerly known as the “Reaching Out Report,” this is only published when the county extension council meets.

March 2021 * Vol. 14 Issue 3 On March 20, the birthday of the good neighbor himself, we celebrate community kindness and the act of being neighborly. Enjoy these photos and stories from people (including the son of former council chair Matt Simpson) throughout our community who took our 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge, and be inspired to do a kind act today. We ended up with over 100 acts of kindness submitted to the library. “All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors—in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver.” -Mister Rogers

March 20 was “Won’t You Be My Neighbor Day” and many Greene County residents joined in the fun. Next up is National Good Neighbor Day on Sept. 28.

Greene County Extension Council Minutes A motion was made by Morgan Ash and was seconded by Karen Dowdy, to approve the QuickBooks online version usage and the expense of $35 per month. Motion to approve passed by unanimous vote. Building Stronger Extension Councils: Mission: Improve Missourians’ lives using research-based knowledge. University of Missouri is a land grant university and extension serves as a liaison between community, University, staff and specialists. The Council participates in hiring of specialists and annual performance appraisals. Paraprofessionals are University employees and support 4-H Program and the Nutrition Program. Agriculture, youth and families, health and safety, business and communities are primary program areas of focus.

Reducing Loneliness Through Social Connection: This is a program offered by Amber Allen. One third of 45 years and older population feels lonely. One fourth of 65 years and older of the population feels socially isolated. This can cause higher rates of depression, suicide, anxiety, heart disease and stroke. Positive relationships can be developed by being friendly, remaining active, supporting others and by asking questions. It is recommended to accept people as they are and to be patient. A motion was made by Joseph Hoffman and was seconded by Karen Dowdy, to adjourn the meeting at 12:54 pm. Motion to approve passed by unanimous vote. Respectfully submitted by Morgan Ash
