EDITOR S L E T T E R It has almost been a year since the creation of GREY / BLACK. Creative forces pushed us to construct this format for our perception to emerge.

For the eleventh edition we wanted to present a visual gradient from grey to black. Convoluting through the editorial we expose visual interpretations of this gradient diverting from the locations that start from Contemporary modernism, to modern construction to the abandonment of the old. The images graduate from light to dark and construct this visual gradient which expresses our vision.

I N C L I N A T I O N From Modern Architecture to Futuristic Housewife we wanted to express our perception of the future and how the minimalism trend will keep regenerating from season to season. The gradient begins with the lightness of the materials such as soft furs, flowy fabrics, metallic details, sharp shapes and buttery leathers.

DESC ENT The light becomes dim and darkness begins to appear.

The sentiment of modernism is still evident, the construction and foundation of something that is currently in process expresses the middle part of the gradient. The menswear trends that dictated the runways ; emerge proportion clash is the main trend we want to portray. Layering long and short pieces together and combining classic tailoring with hard edge pieces is the focus of our story.

At the end of the gradient we find pure darkness. A black conclusion with a sense of origin finalises our gradation.

The old meets the new with the inevitable result of abandonment, the haunting effect of the old with the abrupt interruption of the future, constructs the essence of this story.

The pieces become darker and heavy. Heavy outerwear is what the runways commanded us to invest on, jackets, long vests, fur, felt and rubber construct a textural gradient from soft to hard.

K U B O R A U M

Founded in Berlin, Kuboraum is the brand to watch in the eyewear department. Kuboraum are masks drawn on the face of the wearer, masks that highlight our personality, that highlight our character. A mask used as synonymous of mockery, an infinite game to play. Representing cubical rooms where we protect ourselves, free to live our intimacy in this shelter looking at the world through two lenses. The gradient theme that inspired this edition is evident in the design section through the Kuboraum glasses constructed with burned plastic reinventing classic shapes and reinventing the shapes paired with mirrored lenses and disaturated coloured ways.

The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, Associated with the Pierides Foundation [NiMAC] organises and presents the exhibition Other Indications.

Various methods and alternative approaches are adopted with an aim of renegotiating and re-examining the procedures of curating art exhibitions.

The exhibition will open its doors to the public from 30 November 2013 to 30 March 2014 and is the result of the collaboration of a team of Cypriot scholars, formed upon the initiative of the Centre.
