T

he present Annual Report intends to reflect the essence and reason for the CETT Group. It wants to express every important aspect related to the international School of training and transfer of knowledge in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. It is a center with unique characteristics affiliated to the University of Barcelona. It started offering quality training almost fifty years ago. Through this annual report we intend to transmit who we are, what we do, how we do it and, also, why we do it. We want to explain the reality of CETT School during 2016-2017, a year in which we inaugurated the new facilities. These facilities have meant the extension of the complex in more than 1,600 m2 and the reformation of more than 2,000 m2. The main objective of this improvement, which implied the construction of new classrooms and spaces, was to reinforce the center’s added value. With this idea in mind, new multipurpose spaces for services, relationship and work were created to favor living a dynamic and shared experience beyond the classrooms. The renewed Training School promotes, in addition to the generation of new knowledge, the creativity and cultural exchange among the students. It contributes to reinforce its global projection, offering all the resources to increase the relationships with leading international centers, the creation of new business lines, the increase of academic mobility and the promotion of cultural exchange. At the same time, the improvements allow us - the students, the teaching staff, the team, the companies and collaborating entities ... - to face future challenges, always in accordance with the philosophy, the principles and the values that represent us as CETT Group, with commitment to quality and corporate social responsibility (CSR). In addition, at this Annual Report we wish to introduce ourselves and show everything we have achieved during this school year 2016-2017, presenting the characteristics, data and the most representative actions of the institution, with the intention of becoming closer and transmitting our fundaments and the main purpose of our organization. We pretend to explain everything we do and display the quantitative and qualitative data about our training, academic and research activities and our base commitment, the importance of current and former students represents the backbone of the project, the companies that make up CETT Group and the links with the business sector. Finally, we talk about the future, the light that guides us towards the fulfillment of our objectives keeping in mind the desire to offer an excellent training in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy.

ETT is an international School for education and knowledge transfer in tourism and hotel management and gastronomy. CETT is affiliated to the University of Barcelona (UB). It offers training at all available educational levels providing official recognition - technical training, University graduate and postgraduate, online training, continuing studies for professionals as well as custom-made courses for companies - through its own education model based on: •

A team of teachers and professionals with academic rigor and broad experience.

The development of specialized knowledge in hospitality and tourism, through the Research Groups (Tourism, Culture and Territory, Hotel Business, Culinary and Gastronomy) and Research.

The knowledge and experience provided by companies for direct application of the CETT Group: - Alimara Hotel (****stars) - Àgora BCN, International University Residence Hall - CETT Consultors – Consulting - BAS (Barcelona Academic Services) - Viatges Century – Travel Agent and Tour Operator The close links with people and companies in the tourism sector. The CETT-UB Business Council, the first forum in Spain linking University and Tourism Enterprises, chaired by the Dean of the University of Barcelona.

A clear International vocation that favors the students’ mobility for both academic and professional exchanges. Its classrooms are a true meeting point of students from all over the world.

The student body distinguishes itself by its solid training and the development of the right aptitudes, which we nowadays find in companies and organizations all over the world, and by its active participation in the various initiatives of CETT Barcelona.

INTERNATIONAL REFERENCE OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES After 48 years of existence, CETT has become an international reference of academic excellence and professional services in Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy. CETT Barcelona is highly involved in the sustainable development of the sector and society and contributes through education, research, innovation and expert knowledge, highly focused on the personal and professional growth of all who form part of it. The Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation was founded in 2000 with the aim of being a boost for training, research, expert knowledge in tourism, hospitality and restaurant management. It also intends to strengthen the links with the professional and institutional sectors and strengthen CETT’s internationalization, helping students in the expansion of knowledge, both at home and abroad, with awards for academic excellence.

1969 CETT is born. The Ministerio de Información y Turismo awards CETT the title of “Legally recognised non-official centre of Tourism Education”.

2005 1st Awards for Best High School Research Project in Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy. Mr. Gaspar Espuña is awarded with St George’s Cross by the Government of Catalonia.

1970 The first course of TET (Technician in Tourist Companies) is given.

2006 Opening of Àgora BCN, International University Residence Hall.

1980 The first course of TEAT (Technician in Tourist Companies and Activities) is given.

COMMITMENT TO CSR CETT Group is a group of companies that focus on education and on offering quality tourism, hospitality and gastronomy services. It is part of our own strategic pacification which defines and develops different actions regarding social, environmental and economic areas. The CETT Group oversees environmental, social and cultural sustainability. It also incorporates criteria of economic sustainability, with the aim of improving its global management and offering guarantees in terms of viability. In addition, it is committed to transferring students responsible management competencies in the different aspects. The CETT Group believes in the development of people, as well as in organic growth as the basis of the own strategic plan for growth and responsible development. In addition, the social aspect of the entity is one of the fundamental pillars of the Group. For this reason, from the beginnings it has promoted and developed initiatives with the different interest groups. In addition, it is the main university research center of the country and one of the most important research centers in Europe, regarding both the number of research programs and the excellence achieved in the field. CETT GROUP COMPANIES FOR HANDS-ON TRAINING CETT School includes a series of companies (Hotel Alimara Barcelona, Àgora BCN, CETT Consultors, Barcelona Academic Services and Viatges Century) involved in the Group’s training project (see section 8). These companies play a fundamental role within CETT’s educational model. They actively shape the training of our students and contribute to the development of experience and expert knowledge which is transferred not only to our students but also to the business sector.

LEARNING SPACES CETT School’s set up is thought to favor the implementation of dynamics that foster skill acquisition, team work and the development of specialized knowledge. The School is divided in different kinds of classrooms and spaces that provide the necessary resource to stimulate creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. CAREER SERVICES Career Services is a department of CETT School that offers students professional assistance and orientation in their practical training and later incorporation to the workforce. It favors contact with companies from the industry, organizes activities and monitors closely the evolution of students throughout their studies (see section 7).

The creation and transmission of expert knowledge in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy is one of the main objectives of the CETT Group. New knowledge is generated by CETT Group’s experts. CETT Group’s Research Groups are dedicated to study and research of the tourism field. By means of these Research Groups –Tourism, Culture and Territory, Hotel Business, Culinary and Gastronomy– tourism research projects are developed with the aim of investing in expert knowledge and innovation

Language learning is an essential part of the studies. CETT’s students have the opportunity to work on their international projection since the beginning of their studies. On the one hand, classrooms are a meeting point of international students. On the other hand, our students can study aboard, do internships in international companies, do the SCP in an external company or center and even start their professional career aboard (see section 6). 15

CETT School Spaces & facilities

C

ETT educational model is developed at technical learning spaces and applied technology classrooms, at CETT’s companies for hands-on training (Alimara Barcelona Hotel, Àgora BCN, CETT Consultors, Barcelona Academic Services and Viatges Century) and at the industry. It offers students a unique active learning experience. In addition, it also provides students with a multipurpose space dedicated to tourism, hospitality and gastronomy studies, the Resource Centre as well as the Virtual Campus and Wi-Fi services. The school, located at the Mundet area in Barcelona, also offers other facilities and services to grant the best conditions for academic activities. With this idea in mind, on February 2nd 2017, the new facilities of the center were opened to the public. The remodeling of the school implied the expansion of the center by more than 1.600 m2 –an expansion of 19 % of the surface of the center– and the remodeling of 2.000 m2. As a result, 17 new classrooms were created and other existing spaces were remodeled with the objective of creating multi-purpose spaces for services, relationship and work that would favor living a dynamic and shared experience beyond the classrooms. After this quantitative and qualitative improvement, the School has 30 fully-equipped Theory classrooms, 12 technical classrooms, 4 computer labs, a new Gastronomic Laboratory and other spaces for creativity and innovation, the Resource Center and Library Gaspar Espuña, tutoring room, a amphitheater with a capacity for 520 people, the Fòrum, the Jardinet del Fòrum and La Plaça, the CETT’s Training Restaurant, a hotel with 154 rooms and 20 lounges with a maximum capacity for 600 people, a parking lot and a university residence with 220 rooms for students and teachers. The new facilities have been created with the CETT Group’s philosophy in mind: living, experimenting, sharing and learning in a unique School. This initiative shows CETT’s commitment to educating the best professionals in the field and offering new specialized services in leading and innovative facilities. These qualities make CETT School a center of international reference in the field of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. CLASSROOMS During the school year 2016-2017, has all kinds of classrooms, classified, in a generic way, in four large groups:

• Theory Classrooms CETT has 30 Theory Classrooms - three of them are multipurpose classrooms - with an average capacity for 40 students. • Computer Labs There are 4 Computer Labs with a capacity for 44 students. • Technical Classrooms The center has 12 Technical classrooms with specific purposes. These classrooms are prepared either for hands-on culinary and catering training or for research including the Training Sweet Kitchen, various High-Tech Kitchen, Wine Tasting Labs, the Sensory Lab, the Restaurant Workshop, the kitchen Workshop and the Food Preparation Lab. • Other Classrooms The new Culinary Demo Classroom adds up to the UB-Bullipèdia Classroom, The Five Senses Classroom and the Research and Innovation Classroom. RESOURCE CENTER AND LIBRARY GASPAR ESPUÑA The Resource Center counts with a vast collection of documents specialized in topics related to tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. The collection continuously renewed and expanded. It includes a Computer Lab with 23 computers, a large studying room with capacity for 100 people with computers, and the new space Eidos, a space created with the intention of fostering creativity. During the school year 2015-2016, the consultation portal with links and information on tourism, hospitality and gastronomy sectors began an integration process into the Resource Center for Learning and Research of the University of Barcelona (CRAI). Currently, the consultation services of the CRAI – regarding bibliography research as well as electronic journals and resources - can be accessed from the Resource Center and Library Gaspar Espuña. VIRTUAL CAMPUS CETT’s Virtual Campus (see section 10) is a dynamic tool to support face-to-face and online training. It has a desktop and also mobile version through the corresponding app on Android and iOS platforms. The main functions of this virtual learning environment are to support face-to-face and distance training,

allow communication with members of the CETT community, inform about events that are taking place in the School and news about the sector. Besides, it also allows carrying out academic management tasks. Thanks to the Campus and the Virtual Classroom, CETT School can get anywhere and provide training to students living in another cities, towns or countries. CETT offers a variety of programs and subjects that can be taken completely online at undergraduate, graduate and continuous education levels. Technical and professional training BACCALAUREATE-TECH AND ASSOCIATE'S DEGREES IN HOSPITALITY The Baccalaureate-tech Degree in Cooking, Gastronomy and Restaurant Business Services is a three-year program. Students choose a personalized itinerary between two specialties, Cooking-Gastronomy or Restaurant Business Services. The educational objective of the Baccalaureate-tech in Kitchen Management is train the students to work in restaurant businesses, as owners, kitchen manager or head of the gastronomy section. The objective of the Baccalaureate-tech in Restaurant Business Service Management is to prepare students to develop professionally in restaurant business services, as owner, maître, restaurant manager or food and beverages manager. During this school year, 42 professional visits and 52 classroom activities directed by recognized companies have been organized. Students have also participated in 12 cooking and restaurant contests. ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE IN TOURISM CETT also offers the Associate’s Degree in in Travel Agencies and Events Management with the objective of training future professionals in the sector from a current perspective. Innovation and new technologies are the key factors of this degree. These studies include, besides a commercial perspective and travel management, all the aspects related with the creation and organization of package holidays. At the same time, students get training in events management with a clear emphasis on public relations and organization management, key elements to grant success.

The CETT School of B-Tech Studies has organized a total of 13 different activities as a complement for the students’ training. OFFICIAL DEGREES All these degrees are official degrees approved by the Education Department of the Government of Catalonia. The internships in the sector (FCT) included in the educational program work like a link with the industry, allowing students to gain experience before being incorporated into the industry. CETT’s own project grants students a personalized itinerary, and offers professional orientation taking into account their own skills. During the school year 2016-2017, 539 students were enrolled at CETT School of B-Tech Studies.

Regarding the Associate’s Degree in Tourism Accommodation Management, its objective is to prepare professionals in the hospitality sector in the operative aspects and the management of the different sectors of accommodation establishments. The teachers are specialized in the tourism sector and responsible for the Alimara Hotel, student training center. During this period, students have visited 27 companies, 8 of them have participated in training activities at the Center.

Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN TOURISM The main objective of the Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism is to train professionals in the necessary management skills for head positions in companies and tourism and hospitality organizations and innovate in front of the challenges of globalization, sustainability and technological evolution. This degree also intends to strengthen personal skills necessary to manage teams and projects in a complex and changing environment. The Degree allows students to choose between two itineraries of specialization: Hotel Management and Tourism Management. Students must complete, necessarily, two internships within the chosen specialty. This allows students to complement their theory education and their practical experience and learn the reality of the tourism sector. The Senior Capstone Project (SCP) is the culmination of the degree and reflects the skills acquired as well as its application and development. The total of the Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism can be done in English. With the Bachelor in Tourism, students may choose between two itineraries of specialities, Hotel Management and Tourism Management. BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN CULINARY AND GASTRONOMIC SCIENCES This Degree began during the school year 2014-2015, the interuniversity Degree in Culinary and Gastronomic Sciences (UB-UPC) trains professionals on knowledge that allows them to understand the culinary and gastronomic phenomenon from a scientific, technologic, social, cultural and management point of view. It gives students the necessary skills to innovate, design, produce and manage services in the field of haute cuisine, restaurant services businesses and the food and hotel industries. In addition, students have the opportunity of developing research projects and advances in the culinary and gastronomic sciences. This Degree is the first one in Spain directed by two public universities. It was created from the union and commitment between the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia- Barcelona Tech (UPC), with the collaboration of the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy

CEET-UB, the School of Food and Nourishing Torribera (UB), studies affiliated to the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Barcelona School of Agricultural Engineering (UPC) and the Alícia Foundation. This collaboration was established in order to offer the best training that suits the needs of the cooking and gastronomy industry and encourage research. In addition, the Degree counts with the gastronomic advice and collaboration of the wellknown Catalan chef, Joan Roca and the participation in the design and development of cooks and most recognized professionals of the sector and the food industry. Especially Mugaritz, Lasarte, Disfrutar and Escribà and the companies: ICC, Balfegó, Koppert Kress i Makro, as well as the collaboration of Hostelco. Two compulsory internships are completed after finishing the first year – even if most students also do non-compulsory internships in order to gain experience – after finishing the second year; the internships are related to the specialization chosen by the Student: Specialization in Haute Cuisine and Culinary Innovation or Specialization in Culinary Management and Innovation in the Food Industry. During the school year 2016-2017, the first class of this new degree has chosen each of these options by 50%. The methodology of this scientific and culinary degree is to develop the ability to apply the knowledge acquired throughout hands-on training in laboratories and kitchens. Each subject implies knowledge, activities, visits, talks and expert collaboration. This year counted with 20 collaborators, 15 professional visits and participation in fairs, congresses and talks. The students have participated in more than 10 activities.


The master’s degrees CETT provides a complete offer of official master programs that fulfil the current and future necessities of companies and professionals. These programs are nourished and improved continuously by the contributions of the Center’s tourism research group (see section 4). These groups boost the creation of new expert knowledge throughout research in three different fields: Tourism, Culture and Territory; Hospitality, and Cooking and Gastronomy. CETT’s main mission is based in the education of managers and administrators capable of thinking and acting as leaders and changing agents at the sector. With this in mind, we offer a unique experience that transforms and boosts the professional carrier of the students.

The methodologies and strategies of the master’s programs are specifically designed to combine different learning styles to assure the participation and successful learning of every student through the development of creative processes. This encourages the improvement of the necessary skills, as the knowledge of the sector’s basic, critical thinking and decision making and entrepreneurship. 311 students have completed a master’s degree during the academic year 2016-2017.

This experience is based in the development of a responsible leadership capable of transforming companies and undertaking new innovative business models. The improvement of the management skills necessary to face with confidence the constant evolution of the business environment and to respond to the new challenges of tourist organizations and their managers is also consolidated.

Non-regulated Education: University Extension Programs Regarding the Non-regulated Education: University Extension Programs offered during 2016-2017, they are consolidated as one of the options for the professionals of the gastronomy field to acquire an updated professional profile, being ready to adapt themselves to the changing reality of the sector. The second Edition of the Cocktail and Mixology program that included a master class offered by Simone Caporale, one of the best barmen in the world. Over 150 professionals and students attended this master class. The new edition of the Executive and Creative Haute Cuisine program counted with the participation of recognized experts in the field of gastronomy, as Carles Gaig or Nandu Jubany. Meanwhile, two new groups of the Sommelier studies have started the program with an enrollment record. With this new edition of the Non-regulated University Programs, CETT offers professionals of the sector university level programs that add extra value to their current professional profiles.

During the school year 2016-2017, 146 students have completed a Non-regulated Education: University Extension Programs at CETT.

Continuing Studies CETT offers the tourism, catering and gastronomy industries an specialized academic offer compatible with work, with the objective of adding extra value in the training of professionals. In addition, with the aim of responding to the specialization demands of the sector, since 2005, CETT has a wide catalog of Continuing Studies short-term programs. These programs are addressed to companies and professionals that belong to this sector or others that are looking to re-invent themselves.

Google Adwords for Tourism Businesses and Hotels, Selling Techniques for Waiters, or Costumer Service and Selling Techniques in the Tourism Sector, which were added to the Specialization Diploma in Tourism Marketing.

During 2016-2017 CETT has opted to offer cross-curricular training programs strictly addressed to fulfil the necessities of the sector; for instance, within the field of professional skills, abilities, emotional intelligence management and learning to solve conflicts that may occur in companies, especially companies with a multicultural environment.

This specialization programs complement the wide continuous education offer that CETT-UB School provides in order to improve professional skills. In addition, it includes customized programs for companies.

During the academic year 2016-2017, 117 students have participated in Continuing Studies programs.


International Programs The programs of this training have been developed specially for international students interested in having a multicultural experience in Barcelona. Students may choose the program they prefer to fulfil their training necessities and personal preferences. Besides the Bachelor’s Degrees and graduate programs, during 2016-2017, CETT School offered 19 semester and customized programs.

CETT eLearning CETT eLearning module teaching, either on-line or hybrid (online and face-to-face combination) has a number of advantages. Students opt for a personalized learning experience with the guidance of expert teachers and professionals with complete time flexibility and the comfort of being able to study anywhere maintaining the educational and academic rigor. During 2016-2017, 85 students have participated in CETT eLearning programs; this proposal is addressed to the professional tourism sector. CETT’s academic offer was extended with new programs: Revenue Management Expert Program and programs focused in Heritage Management. The Revenue Management Expert Program grants a certificate issued by the University of Barcelona. It provides students capacitation for efficient management of product commercialization and the services offered by tourist accommodation. It allows students to obtain the knowledge and training in the tools for the optimization of accommodation selling and other services that can be offered by a tourism establishment. The Revenue Management Expert Program has two parts: a theory part to consolidate essential concepts and a hands-on training part based on the daily tasks of the Revenue Manager.

Besides, these programs, CETT eLearning counts with three programs focused in the acquisition of skills and specific knowledge in Museum Marketing, Museography and Didactic Materials and the Tourism Management of Heritage.

CETT School Guarantees Academic excellence

A

session dedicated to Smart tourism was held at CETT-UB School on October 24th 2016 during the school year 2016-2017 which introduced the latest news of the academic offer. Besides the new programs incorporated, each new school year is characterized by the completion of a number of actions and the active participation in the development of the tourism, hospitality and gastronomy sectors. ACTIONS Besides the programs taught every year at the University School (EU CETT-UB), the School of B-Tech Studies (ETP CETT), the School of Continuing Studies, the CETT Language School and CETT eLearning, the students of the different programs attend to master classes taught by experts in the subject and participate in a number of professional visits intended to supplement knowledge acquirement outside the classrooms, in real professional spaces that let students learn first-hand the reality of the sector. Regarding the CETT Group, in relation to the creation and dissemination of expert knowledge in the fields of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy, the alliances and collaboration agreements with institutions and first level national and international organizations is to be highlighted. These collaborations also extend to the professional internships and academic stays for the students of CETT School.

The CETT Group is also part of numerous prestigious institutions and associations, and the team actively participates in work groups. For instance, during the academic year 2016-2017 CETT Group has participated to further develop the Strategic Tourism Plan of Barcelona 2016- 2020, the Gastronomy Plan, the Tourism and City Council, or the INTO 2016, among others. Another relevant aspect related to the objective of promoting expert knowledge, research, innovation and technology, is the remarkable participation of the CETT team in conferences, talks, seminars, fairs, conventions, forums ... all over the world, to bring academic value to the tourism, hotel and gastronomy sector. During 2016-2017, a total of 68 talks were conducted outside the Center, 24 publications in books and 35 articles in magazines. STUDENTS IN ACTION The students of the CETT School participate actively in events of the sector. For example, During the school year 20162017, they have participated in competitions, workshops, fairs and congresses ... such as Hostelco, el VIII Mercat de Mercats, Tast a la Rambla, the XII Concurs de Joves Cuiners i Cambrers de Catalunya, the XXXI Young Cuisine Competition of Catalonia, IBTM, Barcelona Tourism Summit, B-Travel... It has also been an asset value in events organized by the CETT Campus to bring education and industry closer, such as the Internship Talent Fair CETT-UB (ITF), the XI CETT Gastronomic Encounter, several conferences and training activities, the XXII CETT Catering and Food Services Competition and the 11th Bacardí-CETT Cocktail Competition... to name a few. In addition, 600 students have participated in the inauguration of the new facilities of the CETT-UB School (on the same day of the institutional inauguration, with a party promoted by the students that included a gymkhana, a photographic contest and a dinner) and the CETT Sports Tournament 2017, held at the facilities of Àgora BCN.

HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHING STAFF Another characteristic feature of CETT training is the qualification of the CETT School teachers as well as the collaborators in the various training groups, experts in each subject and in the sector due to their professional career. The versatility of the professional context of the tourism sector means that CETT has a teaching staff that combines teachers with a more academic and scientific profile, with teachers with a profile that is more related to professional experience in the tourist, hospitality and gastronomic fields, that constantly update their knowledge thanks to their link with companies in the sector. Thus, the table shows the teaching staff, associate professors, collaborating lecturers, professors and researchers. Also in the framework of the training, it is worth to mention the academic orientation offered to the students. It is designed to help students in each phase of their process of learning.

Quality Management System Education

In recent years, CETT has created its own Integrated Quality and Environment System (SIQMAC) that incorporates the requirements of quality management systems (based on the ISO 9001 regulations) and the environment (based on ISO 14001 and EMAS) accredited within the organization. The requirements have been adapted to the general culture, policy and objectives, as well as to the expectations and needs of the groups relevant to the organization.

What is VSMA? The Framework for the verification, monitoring, modification and accreditation of official titles (MVSMA for its acronym in Catalan) links the processes of quality evaluation (Verification, Monitoring, Modification and Accreditation), that occur throughout the studies, in order to establish coherent links between them and to promote greater efficiency in their management. All CETT university degrees are verified according to the VSMA system.

The Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona CETT 2016

Leading the first network of work on Responsible Tourism and the Educating City

O

rganized by the Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy CETT-UB Chair that was promoted by the CETT School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy and the University of Barcelona with the collaboration of City Council of Barcelona. This congress was held on the CETT School from November 9 to 11. It was born as an opportunity for debate and the exchange of knowledge which is necessary for tourism in Catalonia. It was based on three thematic lines - Smart Management of Tourist Destinations, Innovation and Creativity in Business Models Adapted to the Current Situation, and Technological Avant-garde in Tourist Destinations and Companies. During the academic days held at the Alimara Hotel, there were 37 communications and four star presentations. In addition, the professional day also included the Smart Tourism Startup Experience 2016, with nine entrepreneurs and three capsules of debate with twelve experts. The Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona will be celebrated again in 2018 (https://www.cett.es/smartourismcongress) has become an excellent forum for discussing issues related to smart tourism. This edition was sponsored by the Professional Day of the DiputaciĂł de Barcelona with the collaboration of the IFITT, Red Intur, Supervisor and the Smart Tourism Research Center of Korea. The objective of the Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona 2016 was to create a meeting space where, thanks to the participation of different international experts linked to the reality of Smart Tourism, this phenomenon was analyzed in depth and strategic synergies were created. That's why it was structured in two large blocks: one for academics and one for professionals. RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC RESEARCH, AND THE PROFESSIONAL DAY Within the framework of the first block, dedicated to research and to the study carried out in the academic world, there were 53 of presentations in relation to the three thematic lines of the congress. 38 were selected by the reviewers of the Scientific

Committee. The 38 scientific research were organized in three main areas related to smart tourism (Tourism, Tourism and Technology Innovation, and Social and environmental Responsibility, and Tourism Development) some of these research were presented during the congress. On the other hand, there were four guest speakers. In the second block of the Congress, 14 professionals with different connections to smart tourism - from the technological field to the one of the tourism – offered talks. The State Administration, the Catalan Tourism Agency and the Barcelona City Council also participated in order to explain the strategies for the development and implementation of smart management measures in tourist destinations in Spain, Catalonia and Barcelona, respectively. In this first edition, the Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona CETT had the participation of 250 academics and experts from 30 countries.

lso in the field of research, the CETT School has promoted during the school year 2016-2017 in collaboration with the City Council of Barcelona, the first network of national work focused on a new binomial: Responsible Tourism and the Educating City.

“Ciudad Educadora y Turismo Responsable. El patrimonio como valor identitario de una ciudad” is a project for reflection, debate, exchange of experiences and research on responsible tourism and tourist coexistence under a pedagogical look. It is also part of the State Network of Educating Cities (RECE for its acronym in Spanish). At present there are 16 participating cities. This network, initially driven by Barcelona City Council Educating City Department and from the CETT-UB Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy Chair, counts with the close collaboration of the Tourism Department of the Town Hall of Barcelona.

Journal of Tourism Research

D

uring the academic year 2016-2017 an special issue of ARA, Journal of Tourism Research was edited. The journal was founded by CETT-UB in collaboration with Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), from the Dominican Republic. Volume 6, issue 2 of the scientific publication was addressed to the dissemination of articles presented during the sessions of the Smart

Tourism Congress Barcelona, held at the facilities of CETT School on November 9th and 11th 2016. On the other hand, the journal ARA has been recently incorporated into the Portal of Scientific Journal of the University of Barcelona (RCUB) as well as RACO (Catalan open access journals), managed by the Center of Learning and Research Resources (CRAI) of the University of Barcelona. Research and Expert Knowledge Fostering research and innovation: a strategic value

O

ne of the main goals the CETT Group is the generation and transmission of expert knowledge in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. This commitment comes true through the three Research Groups, where CETT experts develop tourism research projects in order to provide expert knowledge and innovation that enable the sector to maintain and improve competitiveness. Research collaboration between the private sector and tourist administrations is also boosted, as well as the establishment of joint research agreements with other universities of international scope.

Tourism, Culture and Territory (GRTCT): It has the participation of 18 professors: 10 are doctors and 8 doctoral students. The lines of research of the GRTCT are Tourism and Territory, Tourism and Culture, Educational Tourism, Film Tourism and Enogastronomic Tourism.

Hotel Business (GRH): 12 teachers are involved: 3 are doctors and 2 are doctoral students. The lines of research are Evolution of the Accommodation and Catering Industries, Business Intelligence and Smart Tourism, Innovation in the Accommodation and Catering Industries, and Excellence and Sustainability.

Culinary and Gastronomy (GRCG): It has the participation of 10 teachers. The three lines of research of the GRCG are Gastronomic Innovation, Health in the Environment of the Catering Industry and Culinary Heritage.

RESEARCH GROUPS The CETT advances in applied research and knowledge transfer are manifested in the three Research Groups that have been set up in accordance with the priority areas of expertise of the center: Tourism, Culture and Territory; Hospitality, Cuisine and Gastronomy.

STUDIES RELATED TO RESEARCH GROUPS The Senior Capstone Project (TFG for its acronym in Catalan) is one of the fundamental instruments to achieve two of the main objectives of the EU's CETT-UB Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism: the international dimension and the entrepreneurial spirit. The different possibilities of the students in their training for the development of research work and the structure and organization of the Degree in Tourism justify the need to make different types of TFG available to the students. One of the modalities, coordinated by a responsible professor, is that of the TFGs linked to the Research Groups. Students have the possibility to develop their project participating in pre-established groups. The development of the project will include both face-to-face sessions with the professor-advisor and autonomous work. THE DATA In the following pages, CETT Research Groups are defined and a summary of the global data of each of them during the course 2016-2017, from September 2016 to August 2017, is presented. uring the academic year 2016-2017, the Tourism, Culture and Territory Research Group (GRTCT) has developed a total of 127 actions, which represents an increase of 28.3% over the previous school year. Regarding the indicators used, in addition to those specified in the previous page, only the Senior and Master's capstone projects which have obtained a minimum grade of 8 or those that are relevant due to its theme or novelty have been included.

Among the most outstanding events of the school year, it should be mentioned that the present Report presents the best results of the GRTCT since the 2011-2012 academic year (when the current indicators were started). Both of these indicators are basic aspects of the vitality of a research group. They represent the 63% of the total of the actions.

It is also worth mentioning the development, within the line of research of Cultural Tourism, of research related to literary tourism in the framework of Barcelona, with the aim of generating, strengthening and consolidating expert knowledge about this type of cultural tourism that can revert to the improvement of the city's tourist offer.

The continuity of two major projects should also be noted: the Educating Cities and Responsible Tourism, in collaboration with the City Council of Barcelona and with the participation of 16 Spanish cities; and the Emblematic European project Emblematic Mediterranean Mountain as Coastal Destinations of Excellence, a project formed by nine emblematic mountains

Another relevant project has been the sustainable management of the space of the Turó de la Rovira (Barcelona). Linked to the District of Horta-Guinardó and the Tourism Department of the City Council of Barcelona, its main objective is to organize the public use of the emerging tourism space of the Turó de la Rovira under sustainability criteria.

GR Hotel Business

D

uring the academic year 2016-2017, the Hotel Business Research Group (GRH) achieved, regarding the previous year activity, a more homogeneous distribution of the research activities between the different lines. Therefore, it shows a consolidation of these lines and of the research group as a generator and expert knowledge disseminator in the sector of accommodation and catering in order to respond to the challenges that must be faced. Regarding the indicators, in addition to those specified on page 45, only the Senior and Master Capstone Projects that were considered as a significant contribution to any of the lines of research of the GRH by their respective Professor Advisor were taken into account. Among the most outstanding events of the course, the participation in the Observatori de Turisme Rural should be mentioned. It is a joint research initiative developed between EscapadaRural.com, CETT-UB and Netquest, which generates knowledge and provides information of value on the sector of rural tourism in Spain, both from the point of view of the offer (owners) and from the point of view of the demand (travelers). In this sense, we should mention the project on the approach

to the use of loyalty systems in the hospitality sector, carried out in collaboration with students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism- Hospitality specialization - within the line of research of Business Intelligence. Another relevant project was the research on the consumption process and the generation of experiences in the hospitality sector, with the collaboration of students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism- Hospitality specialization. Finally, the empirical study on which commercial sectors are associated to the housing industry, the Barcelona case; and the research on the degree of knowledge regarding the social innovation in the hotel sector in Catalonia, with the participation of students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism- Hotel Management Specialization. GR Culinary & Gastronomy

D

uring the 2016-2017 academic year, the Culinary and Gastronomy Research Group (GRCG) has worked to become a reference in the world of applied research in culinary and gastronomy, with a total of 33 research activities, a figure that represents a 14% increase over the previous period. This figure shows the consolidation of the research group. THE BASES OF THE GRCG The Culinary and Gastronomy Research Group develops research projects, focusing their efforts on establishing guidelines for the development of a research methodology in the culinary and gastronomic world that includes its various aspects. The group is committed to research and culinary innovation focused on its applicability to the professional sector but always taking into account the academic world. The main objective is to be the engine that stimulates the synergies between these areas and, especially, the expert context that favors the approach of future professionals to the field of research and research in the field of cooking and gastronomy.

Another important research has been the study of gastronomic heritage by a student finalizing the Master's Degree in Tourism Management of Culinary and Gastronomic Heritage of the CETT-UB. MAIN LINES •

Social Responsibility Policy at CETT

T

he CETT Group, as a group of companies dedicated to training and offering quality services in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy, regards corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a part of the founding commitment and allows it to become a reality. The Group focuses their efforts and works to achieve a sector more committed to society and people. It encourages initiative, integrity and self-development, and works as a team in an international context, while maintaining a commitment to the country. Efficiency translates into competitiveness, a fundamental feature to guarantee continuity of the CETT Group, which reinvests the results in education and in the community. Therefore, the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation, established in 2000, guarantees and promotes the continuity of this philosophy and foundational commitment, through, for example, the granting of scholarships. In addition, another example of this corporate philosophy is the fact that no dividends are distributed. In this context, CSR is conceived at CETT as a tool for corporate improvement, which is integrated into the Group's philosophy and culture. Achieving it means taking a step further in terms of competitiveness, value and business positioning. At the same time, it is an opportunity to develop individual social responsibility (IRS), encouraging the participation of the whole team and favoring continuous improvement.

CSR is part of the CETT Group’s philosophy. It is an attitude shared by the whole team that makes an effort to show this commitment to society throughout their work. In addition, as a training institution, CETT School has the responsibility of transmitting these values of social responsibility to students. Students are encouraged to develop social responsibility in academic and professional activities. The entire CETT community (students, residents, teachers, professionals ...) maintains an individual commitment to share criteria and sensitivity in the field of CSR, and is involved and participates in the current implementation program that is carried out. CSR MILESTONES AND ACTIONS Right from the beginning, the CETT Group has pursued CSR goals. This attitude has been progressively developed thanks to various actions and measures taken in this direction. These measures are intensified by the new long-terms commitments taken on by the Group in order to work towards excellence always keeping social responsibility in mind. The Group also shares a Code of Ethics and Best Practices, created with the intention of maintaining a firm commitment to act with integrity, ethics, transparency, openness and to comply with the current legislation, the recommendations established by the public authorities, social responsibility and best practices related to the right corporate professional behavior CSR COMMITTEE The CETT Group's CSR Committee is made up of volunteers from the CETT team that organizes and manages the different CSR actions that are carried out or promoted by the Group. During the 2016-2017 financial year it was formed by: Anna Alfonso, Carme Cassà, Josep M. Arcos, Meritxell Cuní, Marta Cusó, Isabel Gallego, Manel Molina, Montse Noguera, Esther Obiols, Maria Soy and Blanca Viladoms. COMMITMENTS The CETT Group understands CSR as a fundamental structural element of the business culture of the Group. The Group is continuously working on the improvement and responsible management of social, economic and environmental aspects.

Our commitment is to improve the management of the company every day to make it more sustainable, committed to Catalonia, understanding the respect for the language as a contribution to multiculturalism, a characteristic of an organization with a strong international orientation and prioritizing local action regarding social action. The CETT Group is committed to providing added value to the staff, students, residents, guests, suppliers and companies hired, the tourism and hospitality sector, the academic and scientific community, and the community. It also commits itself to minimizing the environmental impact and preventing the pollution derived from the activities and services offered. This commitment is intended to foster a more sustainable and competitive tourism in the local and global perspectives which can work as an incentive for economic and social development. SUSTAINABILITY, A DAILY COMMITMENT The CETT Group is committed to be responsible and take care of the environment. During the academic year 2016-2017, despite the notable increase in activity, the number of students

and the number of residents, the general increase of supplies (electricity, water and gas) at the CETT School, the Alimara Barcelona Hotel and Àgora BCN were only 0.63%. In some cases, the reduction of expenses has been achieved compared to the figures from the previous year. This is the case of electricity consumption at the CETT School (-3,10%), of gas at the Alimara Barcelona Hotel (-0, 84%) and at the International University Residence (-18.61%), and in water, also at à gora BCN (-12.53%). Besides the figures, CETT Group works towards becoming more sustainable every day. Within the framework of the CETT School expansion project, natural, untransformed and comfortable materials have been chosen, such as wood, steel and concrete. In addition, acoustic solutions and surrounding forms were chosen for the corridors and the most versatile classrooms to create welcoming corners to work. For the new classrooms located under the garden, illumination and natural ventilation have been sought through the creation of patios that have structured the solution for the garden and for the interior part of the extension. This has ensured the sustainability of the proposal and the commitment to energy savings.

Quality and Environment Integrated System An efficient proposal

T

he CETT Group's development of systematic and planned quality management actions begun in 1998 and it is still maintained in order to provide an efficient response to the needs and expectations of the costumers, staff, workers, shareholders, the market and society in general.

With this intention, CETT has created its own Integrated Quality and Environment System (SIQMAC). This system incorporates the requirements of quality management systems (based on ISO 9001 regulations) and the environment (based on the ISO 14001 regulations and the EMAS) accredited within the organization. The requirements have been adapted to the gene-

ral culture, policy and objectives, as well as to the expectations and needs of the groups of interest.

The Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation CETT Group values and principles support

he Gaspar Espuña-CETT (FGE-CETT) Foundation shares the principles and values of the CETT Group and makes sure they are preserved. The Foundation was created in 2000 by the founder of the CETT Group, Gaspar Espuña (see next page), in order to guarantee and promote the philosophy that he himself instilled. It is a private foundation, inherent in the CETT Group, open, creative and encourages Group's own activity. It has a strong commitment to social responsibility and aims to extend it to the companies that make up the CETT Group and the actions it undertakes. The Foundation extends their values and principles to the CETT Group. It leads with the example by preserving and defending these values every day. The Foundation bases its fundraising on honesty, respect, integrity and transparency, with the objective of favoring the beneficial groups and not personal and professional interests. The collection of funds is carried out unequivocally and reflects the mission of the Foundation. The resource search policy is also based on the lowest cost and maximum result, efficiency and return. Donations, both public and private, that come into conflict with the values and purposes of the Foundation are rejected. Regarding the funds collected, public and accurate information is provided, guaranteeing the accountability of donors. Any kind of commercial relationship with donors in their own benefit, as well as any personal remuneration to suppliers or customers, economic or in-kind, as compensation for the commercial relationship is rejected. The Foundation has standards and processes for the selection of activities. Activities promoted by the Foundation should always be directed towards the achievement its purpose, that is supporting academic and scientific research in the field of hospitality, tourism and gastronomy. Several aspects are taken into account in order to select the activities that will be carried out by the Foundation: the balance between the economic and business viability, the impact, the benefit, the level of innovation and consistency, as well as the ethical values of the activity and that are described in the Code of Ethics of the CETT Group. The companies the Foundation collaborates with are meticulously chosen. All of them must comply with the current legislation in the countries in which they operate; they must respect human rights and international standards, hold environmental values beyond mere regulatory compliance, as well as having

a corporate culture and values similar to those of the CETT Group. The CETT Group, in general, and the Foundation, in particular, develop their financial investments under the criteria of security, liquidity, profitability, diversification, non-speculation and ethical values. 16 YEARS IN ACTION During the academic year 2016-2017, the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation continues to face future challenges, with Narcís Coll Ferrer as president. According to Manel Bassols, director of the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation, "with the firm intention of continuing to grow as a Group and as people, the entire CETT team is aware of the legacy it has received and of the responsibility that this legacy entails. he academic year 2016-2017 has left a mark, at CETT, by a great personal loss: the death on April 29, 2017, by Gaspar Espuña Berga, founder of the Group in 1969 with Josep M. Trias, and the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation (FGE-CETT).

Gaspar Espuña was born in Olot on August 3rd, 1935. During the speech he gave in September 2005, Gaspar Espuña said that his life had revolved around three main axes: "My faith, the vocation of service in my country and the dedication to the world of tourism and training." Indeed, his carrier path was always defined by his participation in all kinds of teaching, civic, solidarity, politic and, of course, tourism projects. Gaspar Espuña was a key figure in the sector due to his strategic vision and innovation. He was widely recognized by society and the world of tourism for his personal and professional career, which was why he received numerous awards: •

FGE-CETT Awards

Fostering Innovation and excellence in the sector XI AWARDS TO THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL CAPSTONE RESEARCH PROJECT IN TOURISM, HOSPITALITY OR GASTRONOMY Out of the 51 projects submitted to the competition in these awards aimed at promoting and fostering the development of research, knowledge of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy, and the training of students, Marc Segués, student at the Roots Secondary School of Solsona (Lleida), was awarded the first prize for the project "Busa: the impregnable fortress". This project gives an overview of the history of the Solsonès region during the 19th and 20th centuries and highlights the fundamental role played by this territory during the French War (1808-1814). He also reveals the reasons why a remote spot such as the Busa mountain range became the second most important place in Spain in 1812. The second prize was received by Ariadna Poch, student of the INS Terres de Ponent de Mollerussa (Lleida), for the project "La cocina molecular: la innovación llega a casa". The project is able to create, using molecular cooking techniques, a menu to be prepared at home and details the steps to be followed to cook three snacks, a first course, a second course and some desserts that include an escalivada foam, a Spherification of potatoes, a fish cooked at a low temperature and a contrast of textures for desserts. The third prize was for Òscar Jordà, student of the Pia Santa Anna Mataró School (Barcelona), for the project "Collaborative economics. How Airbnb affects Barcelona hotel demand ". The paper reviews the concept of this type of economy and concludes that Airbnb affects the level of income of the sector but not the level of employment of hotels, since they have a different target. These awards, organized by the FGE-CETT and the CETT School, are sponsored by Àgora BCN, and have the support of the UB, the Department of Business and Employment, the Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia and the Catalan Youth Agency. RAMON ARCARONS AWARD TO THE BEST EU CETT-UB BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN TOURISM SENIOR CAPSTONE PROJECT Ana Fernández and Irene Aldana received the Ramon Arcarons Award for the project "Approach to Guests Loyalty Systems

in the Hospitality Industry". This research project, tutored by Núria Louzao, explores the concept of relational marketing, analyzes how customer loyalty evolves or changes, and how it has been applied and developed in the hospitality industry. AWARD TO THE BEST ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE IN TOURISM & HOSPITALITY CAPSTONE PROJECT Jordi Montaner and Uriel Álvarez, students of the Associate’s Degree in Tourism Accommodation Management, were the winners of this award, for "Bike INN", a work that contemplates a project of road hotels joined under this brand. The proposal of the two students, a project that has been tutored by Ramon Rodrigo, highlights the idea of loyalty to a segment of costumers, motorists, in hotels offering quality service and care. The facilities are carefully designed and a wide local gastronomy offer. The idea is to offer a very specialized treatment that meets the needs of this target. In addition, this product would also contribute to the culture of motorcycles by offering rental services and organizing special events.

The other projects that participated in the Awards and were presented before the jury were: "Catsuo Restaurant, Catalan and Japanese Fusion" by Miquel Gil, Aleix Coll and Pol Monja; "Eco Travel Deluxe" by Naiara Núñez and Alice Corti; "WOW BCN", by Pablo Gerhold and Laia Diaz, and "D-lite Travel & Events" by Fuensanta Ávila. The jury highlighted the general quality of the projects.

Other scholarships Future Perspective

During the academic year 2016-2017, the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation has launched a new scholarship for students of the CETT-UB who want to make an internship abroad. These are the International Internships 2016-2017. The maximum amount of the scholarship is 2,000 Euros per candidate, to finance the expenses of fees and a one-way journey. The FGE-CETT has also agreed to collaborate with the Tecnológico de Monterrey (Nuevo León, Mexico), as part of the Leaders of Tomorrow program. It will cover the 100% of financial costs of the education and residence of the awarded student for five years.

ne of the characteristic features of the CETT Group and, at the same time, a pillar of the pedagogical model is the commitment to internationalization, applied throughout the whole learning process. In addition to enhancing language training, CETT’s students have the opportunity to work on their international projection since the beginning of their studies. On the one hand, classrooms are a meeting point of international students. On the other hand, our students can study aboard, do internships in international companies, do the SCP in an external company or center and even start their professional career aboard.

The teaching staff also teaches at international universities and members of the CETT team participate in congresses, conferences, fairs and prestigious events in the world of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. RELEVANT ACTIONS 2016-2017 One of the most important actions has been the participation -which will be extended for two years- of the CETT’s Technical School in the innovative educational collaboration project: the Culinary Caravan on the Move. This project is developed with other 9 hotel and business schools in four European countries. It is a strategic partnership between educational centers (K2), funded by the European Union, within the framework of the Erasmus+ program. Culinary Caravan on the Move wants to create an educational, international and motivational model to work on the entrepreneurial capacities of students. In addition to this initiative, other actions have been carried out: •

Signature of an academic collaboration agreement between CETT-UB and Lycée Polyvalent Christian Bourquin (France), to strengthen the link in the areas of cooperation and institutional support, exchanges of staff / students, stays aboard and research among others.

4-year collaboration framework agreement between the University of Barcelona, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Paris-Saclay University and the Institute of Life Sciences and the Environment (AgroParisTech).

Chinese students studying Spanish at the UAB visited CETT School and carried out a cultural exchange activity with students studying Chinese as an elective subject at CETT.

Students and teachers from the Haaga-Helia University in Finland visited the CETT and carried out an academic activity with the students of the English II of the Degree in Tourism.

Welcome and information session about Master's studies at CETT for 50 students finishing the Degree in Tourism of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Alicante.

Go Abroad with CETT-UB Session at the Hotel Alimara Barcelona, a day designed to show students of the Bachelor’s Degree of the Center the international exchange offered at CETT School.

Student and Professional Exchange Commitment to the future

T

he CETT Group, through its pedagogical model, enhances the mobility of its students, both in the academic, training and professional aspects. For students, international stays and internships are an opportunity to train and acquire new knowledge, for cultural exchange, to live new experiences in different settings and to develop key competences (linguistic, multidisciplinary, personal growth ...), a fact increasingly valued by companies when it comes to incorporating professionals.

INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIPS

STUDY ABOARD

The CETT conceives students and the staff’s mobility like a strategic priority, oriented to the continuous improvement of the quality and the modernization of the learning. This strategy has as a central focus the intensification of the international experiences of student by completing the compulsory internships in companies and institutions from other countries. In addition, students also have the opportunity to participate in professional stays once they have completed their studies. It also establishes associations to promote mobility activities for the teaching and management staff.

Either within the Erasmus program in European universities or through bilateral agreements with centers around the world, students of the CETT Bachelor in Tourism who participate in exchange programs acquire new skills in new environments. During the school year 2016- 2017, France, Austria, Lithuania, Norway, Canada, Australia, Brazil ... are some of the destinations where CETT students stayed to expand their studies.

The international internships in companies and high quality establishments help students develop their professional carrier and to apply the knowledge they have already acquired while learning side by side to the best professionals and in outstanding companies of the sector. They also are an added value to the curriculum, given that mobility in the tourism sector is of vital importance and highly valued by companies in the sector

Outgoings & incomings During the school year 2016- 2017, 60 students studied abroad at universities overseas. Meanwhile, CETT-UB received 57 university exchange students and two students from Spanish universities to study a semester or a school year – at the Bachelor in Tourism, master’s degrees and International Programs.

CETT Career Services (former E3 Services) advices, facilitates and promotes these internships abroad, as well as professional stays at national level, in very different destinations. A lot of collaborations are consolidated thanks to the participation of companies in the Internship Talent Fair CETT-UB and in the corporate presentations that are carried out constantly at CETT. During the academic year 2016-2017, 51 CETT students have had a work experience in international companies, in more than 20 countries and destinations: Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, United States, France, Gambia, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Morocco, Mexico, Monaco, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, Dominican Republic, Czech Republic, Thailand, Taiwan, Chile ..., and 59 students have done so in Spain. Of the 51 students who have had an international experience, 32 have participated in internship programs, 17 in a career plan and 4 in Senior Capstone Project programs.

T

he CETT Group is working to maintain close ties with the companies in the industry, to guarantee the employability and the development of the professional career of graduates and, at the same time, respond to the evolution of the needs of the world of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. Every year about 1,500 collaboration agreements are established with the main companies and entities in the sector. Companies and entities participate directly in training activities, research projects or events organized by CETT. Another main element of CETT’s training project is the management of hands-on training companies. These companies are part of the CETT-UB School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy. These training centers allow students to train and research in a real business context (see section 8). CETT-UB UNIVERSITY-COMPANY ADVISORY COUNCIL The CETT and the Gaspar Espuùa-CETT Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona, created the first CETTUB University-Company Advice Council in 2008. It is formed by number of companies and institutions. The Advise Council main priorities are establishing permanent communication and dialogue on market changes in order to adapt the studies to the real needs of the industry; support and participate in the activities linked to Career Services and CETT Alumni, and collaborate in the research activities carried out by CETT or the companies of the Group. CAREER SERVICES Academic Excellence

C

areer Services is a team of professionals who guide and support students throughout their studies, and make possible the contact with the best companies to promote students development and their future professional employment. It organizes activities aimed at meeting these companies and offers personalized follow-up throughout the studies. Every year, CETT receives more than 1,200 job offers and almost 2,000 internship offers for students and former students. In addition, close to 1,500 collaboration agreements with the main companies in the sector are signed. Career Services also manages and coordinates international internship stays and In-company Senior Capstone Projects (SCP), looking for the most suitable proposals for each student, formalizing the agreements, monitoring and tutoring the final evaluation. This tutoring offered by the center is reinforced by the tutor within the company and follow-up meetings. INTERNSHIPS IN COMPANIES Career Services manages and coordinates the compulsory Internship subjects, regarding the regularization of agreements, the follow-up and the evolution of the course with three essential aims:

Achieve theoretical and practical training of students.

Adapt the professional profile of students to the current needs of companies in the tourism sector.

Contribute to the acquisition of quality education by the students.

JOB LISTINGS Career Services is available during the whole educational and professional career of the students: once the studies have been completed, they continue to provide personalized service, orientation, advice and help in the employment and improvement of work. The service maintains direct and fluid contact with companies in the sector, advising on the professionals that can best respond to their needs. At the moment, students and former students of the CETT can check at the Virtual Campus all the internships and job offered and apply.

Internship Talent Fair CETT-UB Successful first edition

T

he Internship Talent Fair CETT-UB (ITF) was held for the first time this 2016-2017 academic year. It a meeting space between CETT-UB young talent (finishing students and former students from the last two years) and the tourism, hospitality and gastronomy industries. Over 250 students enrolled to the first edition of the fair.

The ITF was held on November 4th, was born with a clear international vocation. This was reflected in the participation of foreign companies (Hyatt Hotels Germany, Marriott Hotels USA, Booking, Artico and Adare Manor Golf & Resort) and Spanish companies with a very high international presence (Iberostar, Melià, Grupo Sagardi and NH, among others). Besides, Mobility Workshops were held: HRC International, Placement International, Sabatica and the Catalan Tourism Agency explained to 155 students the support services for mobility they offer. The Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation also contributed their international scholarships. THE ACTIVITIES The ITF main objective is to respond to two needs of the students: getting to know the industry better (information activities) and finding job and internship placement (intermediation activities). To this purpose, information and intermediation activities were programmed. The information sessions consisted of Corporate Presentations. 23 companies had the opportunity to explain what they are and what they do as well as what they offer and hope to find. Coffees’ Corner was the moment of maximum concentration of companies and candidates. In an open and flexible format, the participants accessed about forty companies to ask what they wanted to know and also to

present themselves. HOSCO set up a small photo studio where many participants got a professional photograph. The intermediation and that had more complicity on the part of the companies was the Elevator Pitch. In three different workshops divided by sectors -Business Travel & MICE, Travel Agencies and Gastronomy- a small group of candidates was presented to the companies. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to interview them. In order for all the participants to take full advantage of the opportunities that the ITF offered them, Career Services launched nine training capsules of three specialties: Tools and Techniques for Job Search, Transversal Competences and Communication, and Professional Image. 99 students attended these lessons. Meanwhile, the University School organized a Hospitality Workshop with the international companies of the sector, and the students of the Higher Technician in Travel Agencies and Event Management accompanied the Companies to visit the facilities of the CETT-UB Campus. The day ended with the interviews, the new personalized service for companies.

Alimara Awards, Tourism 360 XXXIII edition

C

ETT has held, for the past 33 years, the Alimara Awards to recognize the effort and the quality of tourism promotion material, both of public institutions and private companies. The participation bases are adapted to current times with an increasing demand for an integral concept of image spreading and premium product through new technologies or graphic material. Therefore, in the XXXIII Edition these bases were modified to give an transversal view of the industry and to adapt to new times. ne of the most representative values of the CETT Group is the commitment to entrepreneurship, both from the academic and pedagogical aspects, as well as the promotion of different projects. This quality is enhanced in the classrooms, incorporating it throughout the entire academic curriculum, so that students develop an entrepreneur spirit. XIII EDITION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP COMPETITION OF TOURISM PROJECTS One of the objectives of the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation is to promote training, research and knowledge in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. One of the principles of the institution is to stimulate entrepreneurship and awareness to contribute to the growth of sustainable tourism. The FGE-CETT defends responsible, open and network entrepreneurship. It works to foster the generation of entrepreneurial projects, promoting innovation and creating synergies where business ideas can take shape, thanks to projects with a future perspective. Therefore, in its desire to promote and foster the development of tourist activities, the FGE-CETT wants to encourage young entrepreneurs to develop their ideas, shape them and help them to make their projects come true. Hence, as an entity with social interest, it aims to promote entrepreneurial initiatives, supporting them through the Entrepreneurship Competition of Tourism Projects. Thus, it rewards the best tourism company projects by providing them with financial resources, offering the know-how of professionals through mentoring, generating networking and facilitating the contact of entrepreneurs with potential investors.

The winning project proposes a new activities offer for the tourism sector in Barcelona through the dissemination of fishing in the city. The second prize was for the Planomi sales website, and the third one for two ex aequo projects: the fermented drinks of Kami de Deus and the specialized travel agency Onvaig.cat. The competition also included a special mention for the Outdoor Adventour travel agency, specialized in active and adventure tourism in the Pyrenees. The Pioneer Entrepreneur distinction was granted, posthumously, to Gaspar Espuña and Berga -founder of CETT and the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundationfor his dedication and long career as a manager, businessman and expert in the field of tourism. The award acknowledged Espuña as a visionary and a pioneer in the tourism sector, with a legacy that has crossed borders. After the awards ceremony, a meeting between mentors and the winners was held in order to launch the mentoring part of the prize. Besides the financial contribution to the winners to help them start their project, in this edition, mentoring has been incorporated as a prize, based on the transfer of knowledge and experience of professionals to guide the entrepreneurs, which accelerates the process of project development and helps to drive the business in an optimum way. Caparrós, Maria Martínez, Núria Navarro and Núria May, was the winning entrepreneurial initiative of this competition held by the FGE-CETT and the CETT-UB School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy, with the sponsorship of the Diputació de Barcelona and of "La Caixa" Community Projects. FISCAL YEAR 2016-2017 During the academic year 2016-2017, all types of events and actions have been organized at Àgora for 287 residents - both short-term and long-term. 46.30% of the residents were women and 53.70% men. 43.21% came from Catalonia, 26.54% from the rest of Spain, and 30.25% were foreigners. In total 26 different nationalities were represented at Àgora, with a considerable number of guests from the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Among the actions carried out, Àgora BCN has hosted Innovation or Die!, a Finnish innovation contest, with the participation of 120 university students. The CETT Sports Tournament 2017, exclusive for CETT students and for the residents of the International University Residence Hall and the award ceremony dinner, coinciding with the end of year party were also held at the facilities. The reception of the residence has been improved to enable more individual customer service.

Finally, Àgora BCN has a new website and has joined the social networks, with a new profile on Facebook and Instagram (@ agorabcn), which inform about the latest news and activities held at the residence.

TOT CETT Tot CETT is CETT Group’s corporate magazine, which deals with current issues related to the tourism, hospitality and gastronomy industries and the CETT Group. Each issue deals with different topics and news related to the fields of tuorism, hospitality and gastronomy. T

he CETT Group is getting more and more coverage on national television, newspapers and radio stations. Both regarding the events organized by the institution and the dissemination of expert knowledge created by CETT’s teaching staff and collaborators.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-2017 The intentional communication actions (either print or electronic originated by informative notes, direct contact with journalists …) and unintentional appearances or appearances of CETT students or experts – researchers or teachers- have been considered in the summary of actions and media impact of the CETT Group (248 appearances). One of the most important actions of the school year has been leading role of the CETT in the television program 5 dies a… from TVE Catalunya on September 12th. This documentary series, which shows the daily life of different places and institutions, had previously visited such well-known places as La Pedrera, El Palace Hotel, the Massana School or the Circuit of Catalonia, among others. The shooting took place in May and it lasted one week. The program showed the different actions that take place during a whole day (the versatility of the School, the activities that are carried out, the spaces ...), at a center of reference in the field of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy.

Future projects The future of the CETT Group

T

he CETT’s vision of the future is for the Group to continue being a benchmark for academic excellence and tourism, hospitality and gastronomy services at international level. CETT pledges to maintain its commitment to the responsible development of the industry, to the people, the society and the country. As well as continuing to contribute to training, research, innovation and expert knowledge, and supporting the personal and professional development of those who are part of the Group.

One of the successful projects completed in 2016-2017 was the expansion and remodeling of the CETT-UB School facilities. The remodeling, that included the construction of new specialized classrooms and the reorganization of the spaces and services offered by the School, already allows students, teachers, teams, companies and collaborating entities ... to face future challenges. The CETT Group is committed to training the best professionals by offering new specialized services in leading and innovative facilities. The 2012-2017 Strategic Plan for the CETT has already been closed. Therefore the CETT School 2018-2022 Strategy has begun. This strategy includes the planning of quantitative and qualitative growth and new goals. This project is based on the commitment to tourism knowledge at the service of society and the country. It is aligned with values and the essence of the Group: entrepreneurship, excellence, effort and perseverance, talent, ethics, individual and corporate social responsibility ... the values of the Gaspar Espuña-CETT Foundation. The 2018-2022 Strategy raises new challenges for the CETT School. This new strategy includes a special plan for the CETT Alumni. It is intended to promote the development of former students’ professional career, to further facilitate their employability, strengthen, structure and systematize the relationship between Alumni and promote the association from among others. In short, in a framework of growth and development of a responsible model where people constitute the main value, the sustainability of the CETT Project is to continue to foster innovation and entrepreneurship, and prepare students to face the challenges of the future. Academic excellence –teaching, research and knowledge transfer- is a main element in the CETT Project. The Alumni and its successful professional development, in accordance with the values of the CETT, are also essential. 96

Regarding innovation and the fostering of entrepreneurship, during the last quarter of the academic year 2016-2017, the mentoring initiative for the winners of the Entrepreneur Projects in the Tourism Industry Contest has already been successfully implemented and it will continue in the future. Among other new initiatives included in the 2018-2022 Strategy, two projects stand out: the Talent Management System, and Digital Transformation. The first project will focus in the improvement of abilities of the students and the team in order to identify potential future positions in an objective and rigorous way. It is a method to find talent inside and outside the organization in order to contribute to the development of the CETT project. Regarding the Digital Strategy, the digital transformation and adaptation of the CETT Group will allow improving both the CETT operating and the academic model with the digitalization of processes. Another initiative that will be carried out during the period 2019-2020 is the incorporation of a new Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Business and Innovation, with specializations in the generation of new tourist and service business models and the intelligent management of tourist destinations and businesses. In connection to the CETT-UB Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy Chair, during the next academic year 2017-2018 the second edition of the Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona 2018 will be held (after the success of the first edition held in 2016 at the CETT, the congress will be retaken as a reference and meeting space around the phenomenon of Smart Tourism) and we will develop a project, in collaboration with the City Council of Barcelona, on Indicators of Tourism Sustainability in Urban Destinations, which will contribute to generate information on the sustainability of the city to facilitate the processes of decision, planning and public management of tourism. Keeping an open mind and with the intention of promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, the CETT team will continue working with the hope and optimism of sharing a growing and vital project, a benchmark of international academic excellence in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy.

a visió de futur al CETT passa perquè el Grup segueixi sent un referent d’excel·lència acadèmica i de serveis en turisme, hoteleria i gastronomia en l’àmbit internacional, compromès amb el desenvolupament responsable del sector, les persones, la societat i el país, que aporti formació, recerca, innovació i coneixement expert, i aposti decididament pel creixement personal i professional dels qui en formem part.

Un dels projectes iniciats el curs acadèmic 2015-2016 i que ha de culminar en l’exercici 2016-2017 és l’ampliació i la remodelació de les instal·lacions del Campus CETT-UB. La reforma, d’una gran envergadura, afecta més de 2.000 m2 i implica una ampliació de més de 1.600 m2, amb la construcció de noves aules especialitzades i la reorganització dels espais i serveis que ofereix el Campus. Aquestes millores permetran a l’alumnat, el professorat, l’equip, les empreses i entitats col·laboradores... assolir els reptes de futur. En aquest sentit, el Grup CETT vol seguir apostant per formar els millors professionals i oferir nous serveis especialitzats en instal·lacions capdavanteres i innovadores. Un altre dels projectes engrescadors amb vista al futur és la Càtedra de Turisme, Hoteleria i Gastronomia CETT-UB, de la qual l’Ajuntament de Barcelona i el CETT són coimpulsors i agents actius, a fi d’identificar les tendències, les oportunitats i els reptes de la ciutat per desenvolupar un turisme responsable i sostenible. En aquesta línia ja s’han endegat tres projectes: l’Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona CETT, que s’ha de celebrar del 9 a l’11 de novembre de 2016, l’Índex de Sostenibilitat de les Destinacions Turístiques, i el projecte Ciutats educadores i Turisme. D’altra banda, es prepara una renovació de les bases dels Premis Alimara, que reconeixen l’esforç i la qualitat de la promoció turística, i que el proper curs arribaran a la 33a edició. Els Premis Alimara faran un gir i evolucionaran com ho fa la societat i el nostre entorn, tant des del punt de vista dels criteris d’avaluació com de les categories premiades. També durant el curs 2016-2017 es treballarà per millorar els estàndards de qualitat del Grup CETT. D’acord amb la filosofia, els principis i valors que en conformen la identitat, el compromís corporatiu amb la qualitat es constata mitjançant l’estructuració d’un sistema i d’uns processos organitzatius que aposten per l’orientació cap al desenvolupament dels objectius en aquest marc. En aquest context es preveu renovar les diferents acreditacions que avalen les formacions del Grup.

Finalment, un altre projecte de futur del CETT rep l’aval de l’acord signat aquest exercici 2015-2016 amb l’Ajuntament i la Universitat de Barcelona, per promoure els programes de doctorat en turisme, hoteleria i gastronomia. Gràcies a aquesta col·laboració, els investigadors del CETT podran participar en programes de doctorat, a través de l’Escola de Doctorat de la UB, per tal de dur a terme direccions de tesis doctorals, mitjançant la seva vinculació a una o diverses de les línies de recerca definides en els citats programes. Aquesta figura facilitarà la creació de programes de doctorat en turisme propis i la participació del CETT en programes de doctorat d’altres universitats. Amb una mentalitat oberta al món, seguirem treballant en equip amb la il·lusió i l’optimisme de compartir un projecte creixent i amb vitalitat, referent d’excel·lència acadèmica internacional en turisme, hoteleria i gastronomia.
